Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Institut Esthederm - Moisturizing Bio-Active Serum
xinguo 12/19/2008 10:39:00 PM
When I first got this 15ml Serum, I didn't give it too much thought. I did not pay too much attention about the "6-day" starter treatment instructions neither. I still don't know what it suppose to do. What it did to me is amazing! I use it in the morning before applying moisturizer. I sometimes get pimples around my hairline due to "female hormone imbalance". I even got a ZENO for these nasty pimples and it did not work! Since I started to use this serum, I haven't had ANY pimples! None! Zero! It has been more than 3 months now, and I am very happy with it. I will buy it again for sure!

Cleansers -Elizabeth Arden - Sheer White Purifying Foam Cleanser
xinguo 7/19/2008 11:29:00 PM
Awesome cleanser! Rich and foamy. Just need a tiny little to get the job done. The package is well designed, and the cleanser has a paste type of texture (not runny or milky), so when squeeze the tube, there is no accident of getting too much in hand. It cleanses well, and not drying, No good smell or bad smell, just pleasant. It is a keeper!

Moisturizers -Elizabeth Arden - Sheer White Protective Daytime Cream SPF 30
xinguo 7/19/2008 11:22:00 PM
The Sheer White line of EA is made with Asian woman in mind - particularly Chinese, Japanese and Korean woman, who are prone to dark spots and sun damage, and are “obsessed” with porcelain skin – I think my face is “cloudy”, no sun spots yet, but can be brighter, so this line of products fit my needs very well. The main benefit of this line is skin brightening, and reduces the size and intensity of dark spots and freckles. The Daytime Cream SPF 30 is a very nice cream. I like it because 1) SPF 30 provides a good level of sun protection 2) The cream is silky and no-greasy like and moisturizing. Absorbs fast into skin, does not have the sticky feeling of Sunscreen. Great compare to my usual “moisturizer – sunscreen – oil absorbing powder” routine. 3) It does brighten my face! This cream does not claim it can reduce dark spots (other produces in this line do that); it says it helps prevent dark spots, and premature aging caused by sun exposure. I think that is a fair statement and I respect that. I do feel my skin is brighter and stronger after using it, especially in the morning. The effect wears off a little by the end of the day, but I don’t feel dry or oily, I think it could be because I am tired at the end of the day. To max the results, it is best to combine this cream with the Restoring Night Cream and the Pure Intensive Serum. I like this cream and I think it can work well for most Asian woman. Two things I don’t like – 1) It is not widely available in North America. I got mine from Winners (A discount chain store in Canada), and God knows where they collected them. 2) It is an expensive cream, about $65.00 for 50 ml. So I bought 4 sets when I saw the great price in Winners. Not sure how well this cream will work in Winter. So far so good. So 5 sticks!

Cleansers -Ahava - Cleansing Cream
xinguo 6/11/2008 10:51:00 PM
It is the best cleanser I have ever used. I have tried many other types, some quiet expensive, some quiet fancy, but I like this so far the most. It is gentle, but can cleanse very well. It does not like other non-drying cleansing milk that leaves a film on you face... After using it, my face does not feel dry, just feels fresh. It removes eye makeups, sunscreens and all the makeup that clog the pores. I think it actually makes the pores smaller. I will buy it again.

Mascara -Boots - No7 Maximum Volume Waterproof mascara
xinguo 5/24/2008 11:18:00 PM
I am reviewing the regular Maximum Volume mascara, in Navy and it isnot the waterproof version. I do not like the color, as it is not a rich Navy, kind of dull color with no shine; it adds very little volume. The only thing seems OK about this Mascara is it's smudge resistant. I think to get the desired result, you may have to combine this mascara with another lengthening one as suggested by one reviewer.

Mascara -Boots - No 7 Longer Lashes
xinguo 5/24/2008 11:05:00 PM
I don't like this Mascara. It is dry, even fresh from the tube for the very first time, I have to try to coat again and again for it to work.. and it does not lengthen my lashes. And it does not curl. I have not tried it with a primer. That would be a neccessary with this mascara, I think. Won't buy it again

Conditioner -Joico - Body Luxe Thickening Conditioner
xinguo 4/16/2008 1:36:00 PM
I really like this conditioner. I think not only it gives you the body volume, but it also leaves a nice shine to the hair. You only need to use small amount for it to work. I had used up a whole 1 litter bottle of this and then switched to “Back to Basics” Shampoo and Conditioner. But after 2 months of using that, I found my hair is getting drier and drier. So I bought this conditioner again (not the shampoo). It gives me the nice soft and shinny - lively look again with the very first use. It works well with any brand of Shampoo!

Cleansers -Elizabeth Arden - SkinSimple Efficiency Expert 2 in 1 cleanser toner
xinguo 4/9/2008 10:18:00 PM
I like this cleanser very much. I think the SkinSimple line has a few very good basic products, and this is one of them. It cleanse very well, leaving no residue and a fresh feeling on face. You only need a little to clean your face. The trick is to apply your favorite moisturizer immediately after each use, locking in the moisture. I don't like milky cleansers very much, but if you do, this cleanser may be too drying for you. The package is nice and simple: stands firmly on a counter, and is very easy to open, close and wipe clean after use. I will buy it again.

Moisturizers -Elizabeth Arden - SkinSimple Beauty Sleep Nighttime Moisture Cream [DISCONTINUED]
xinguo 4/9/2008 9:58:00 PM
Very nice night cream. I can not tell the difference from this $10 cream to a $60 dollar one. It's moisturizing, but light in texture. It makes my skin feels clean and not clogged. I love the packaging - it is simple and elegant! Fits in hand well, doesn't take a lot of space, not heavy... all that. I think the cream will be better for summer months. For now, it feels a bit light / dry (Spring is windy here). Update: after 3 weeks of using the cream, my face feelsa bit dry. I woke up in the morning and feel uncomfortably dry skin... However, when I use skin serum before applying the cream, and it worked really well.

Lotions/ Creams -Crabtree & Evelyn - Gardeners Hand Therapy
xinguo 2/6/2008 11:19:00 PM
I like this hand cream. It does a good job. Not greasy, and still moisturizes well. I would say it is the best among the creams that I have tried. The moisturizing result lasts long enough overnight. Not sure it (the result) lasts after you wash your hands though. Actually, I don’t think anything would last after you wash your hands, unless you “barely’ washed them. But, I hate the package. The stupid metal tube gets so squashed after a while, it does not stand on the desk and looks ugly, when taken out from your purse in public, you almost feel embarrassed. I just heard that it comes in a pumped version as well. Then I will buy it again.

Moisturizers -Elizabeth Arden - Visible Difference Refining Moisture Cream Complex (Creme Complexe Hydratante)
xinguo 2/6/2008 10:58:00 PM
I must have used 4 jars of this cream in the past 9 years! Every once a while, I wanted to try something new, I switched away, and just came back to it and remembered what a great basic cream it is. The cream has a beautiful, luminous texture. It hydrates skin well, can be absorbed easily, no greasy feeling. Skin feels supple and soft. I use it for winter during the day, and in summer during the night. I always buy the 75ml jar, it costs about $75.00. But you pay attention to the promotions, you can get 2 for 1 deal – and I think for that, you have to be in Canada! It happens every April. Update: I am growing out of it. I must say the fact it does not contain SPF is not going to work with me. And it is not the best night cream out there. So I won't buy it again.

Treatments (Eye) -La Roche Posay - Active C Eye Cream
xinguo 2/6/2008 10:41:00 PM
This cream is called "Active C Anti-wrinkle Dermatological Treatment". Not only it does not work, but also dries out my skin, making the area appears to be more wrinkled. It also shakes my confidence on all these “anti-wrinkled”, “anti-age” products, do any of them work? Maybe I should focus on my number one issues – moisturizing. Anyway, in summery, the cream is light, easy to apply. Maybe it would work for someone in her early 20s, and doesn’t have dry, dehydrated eye area.

Treatments (Eye) -Lancome - Progres Eye Cream
xinguo 2/6/2008 10:26:00 PM
This is my favorite eye cream. I bought it after searching and reading the positive reviews here. Thanks to everyone who recommended it, I love it. I like the fact the cream is very moisturizing, and the result lasts whole day. Without any of the fancy ingredients, it really works to “reduce” fine lines by moisturize the area. Skin is so supple and soft. Personally, I don’t believe these “Wrinkle eraser” magic, no one can turn back time. I think when a cream tries to work on fine lines by “filling” it, it often dries out the area. The only way to “reduce” the fine lines is to moisturize and moisturize. The Progres eye cream does just that, and does it well. It is not thick, but rather emollient. When applying, you have to gently pat the cream onto the area and let it absorb for a few minutes. Don’t use it on your eyelids, as it can feel heavy for some. It is also an excellent cream for overnight. It is not a miracle cream, but out of so many eye creams that I have tried, this is the best. I don’t think this cream is for everyone, not for young girls or gals live in humid, warm environment. You may also find it heavy for day time use. I have been using it at night for 5 months now. Still like it! Oh, the product is only available in the US, so we Canucks have to make a trip or ask a friend to get it for us. That sucks!

Liquid -Rimmel - Renew & Lift
xinguo 1/30/2008 8:00:00 PM
I received a sample in Soft Beige - the tone seems right for me so I tried it. And I don't like it at all. It made me look sooo tired by the evening, with dark circles under my eye... I looked 10 years older! - at least that what I felt when I looked at myself in the mirror. It is also drying, not working out in our dry, cold climate. To be fair on reviewing the product, I tried it again the next day, after a good night sleep, still disappointed. Seriously, when they claim younger looking skin in just 12 days, I hated it already. Where is the "Yonger looking" standard coming from? Do they think that we, as modern women in this day and age, don't use any product to save ourselves from aging, but sit there and wait for this to save us for it all? B*l !

Shampoo -Joico - Body Luxe Thickening Shampoo
xinguo 1/26/2008 11:48:00 PM
I like this shampoo. It does build body for fine hair, and with the matching conditioner, it leaves the hair silky and smooth. This is especially true when I first started to use it. Like all shampoo and conditioners, after a while, it seems the effect is less noticeable. The trick is to switch to another brand of Shampoo and Conditioner and once your hair stops respond to the products, you can switch back to this. Out of many shampoo and conditioners that I have used, this is one of my favourites. I think it does a good job, and it is priced reasonably. I don’t care about the smell – it doesn’t smell good or bad. I don’t think the bottle is stylish, nor it is bad looking… I will buy it again. After a while though. Update: The conditioner is better than the Shampoo for thin hair. You can use the conditioner with other favorite brands, and I found that reponds very well.
