Misc Beauty Tools -Palladio - Rice Powder Blotting Papers
wvbeetlebug 11/3/2012 11:06:00 PM
I really wanted to like these little blotting papers but when I pressed them to my face the powder flaked off everywhere. The packaging is perfect. You pull one sheet out and another pops up. The price is right too. I bought mine at Ulta for about $3. Sadly I returned them.

Pressed Powders -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers Pressed Powder
wvbeetlebug 9/30/2012 10:55:00 AM
This would be a good powder for someone with drier skin than me. I have combination skin and it did not keep my t-zone shine free. I took off points because of the overwhelming fragrance, almost floral, that does not go away after time.

Shampoo -Jonathan - weightless smooth no frizz cleansing cream
wvbeetlebug 7/18/2011 12:06:00 PM
I managed to score a 32 oz. bottle of this at TJ Maxx for $12.95. Sadly I must add this to the list of shampoos that cause my hair to shed. I was sadly disappointed with this product. I had to use twice as much as I normally do in order to get this product to lather. Not very cheap considering a 32 oz. bottle retails for about $44. A bottle this size should have had a pump other than that the bottle has nice straight sides so it fits nicely in the shower. The cap is also easy to open. It has a push down flip top. Overall, I would not repurchase this shampoo. I have really short hair but I had to use a leave in conditioner to be tangle free. If I didn't use a conditioner of some sort and let my hair air dry my hair would be a puffy mess. It does have a nice tropical coconut scent. I am glad I did not pay full price and I was able to return it.

Eyeliner -L'Oreal - Le Grande Kohl Eyeliner Pencil
wvbeetlebug 7/18/2011 11:55:00 AM
I got this liner "free" with the purchase of a mascara. This eyeliner did not work out for me. It had minimal staying power which is to say that it smudged under my lash line before noon. It would be okay for maybe a smokey eye but not good for a really define long wearing eye. HTH!

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Makeup
wvbeetlebug 3/4/2010 2:53:00 PM
I so wish I could've kept this product. The foundation leaves a beautiful semi-matte finish which my combo skin liked. Just can't deal with the shimmer. I picked this up at CVS during their BOGO sale so I got the powder as well. I'm a NC35 and picked up Golden Beige which matched my skin perfectly. In the three days I've worn this I have not had any irritation, breakouts, etc. I found that this foundation evened out my skin and covered minor skin flaws (old scars, redness around my nose) quite well without the need of a concealer. The coverage is also buildable. The first day I used my fingers only to apply it for more coverage and the second day I used a slightly dampened sponge for lighter coverage. This foundation stays the day, even though a nap. I set it with the Translucent Finisher in the morning and did not need to reapply powder or blot even late in the evening. I didn't get any break through in my t-zone and need to blot. It also has no noticeable scent (versus Color Stay. Bleh!) which is important to me. I like that it has a pump, but I feel you tend to waste a lot of product that way too. What I did not like about this product was the shimmer. I did not notice it at first, but as the day wore on the shimmer began to surface. This morning I did a test on the back of my hand. I applied a tiny bit, worked it in and no real noticeable shimmer. So I used my gel cleanser to remove it, dried off the back of my hand and whammo! Shimmer! That said if you do choose to wear this be sure you have a good cleanser to remove it. My gel cleanser (Lancome Clarifiance) was not enough to remove it the first time, but my Clarins Cleansing Milk and a washcloth did the trick. Overall this would've been a much better foundation for me if they would've left out the shimmer.

Pressed Powders -Revlon - PhotoReady Powder
wvbeetlebug 3/4/2010 2:30:00 PM
Purchased Translucent Finisher as a BOGO with the Photo Ready foundation at CVS. Packaging: 2 I like the slim rectangular packaging however the actual case is very difficult to open. The few times I used it I was afraid I would break the clear plastic cover, but if you didn't give it some force you'd never get to the product. I like that the "window" in the packaging clearly shows the color of the product. The mirror is very narrow. You can only see about 1" of your face at a time. Product: 3 Mica is the first ingredient of this powder. I wish I were able to see that in the window. Had this powder not had so much sparkly goodness I would like this more. The powder is smooth and sets the Photo Ready foundation wonderfully. I applied it in the morning and I didn't have to blot or reapply even much later into the evening. Price: 2 I gave it a 2 for price because although it is a lot for drugstore makeup when not on sale, you could very easily get this BOGO or with a discount. Overall, not the worse powder I've ever tried (think Coty Airspun), but not the best. If you don't mind some shimmer this powder is just as good as any other pressed powder.

Mascara -Revlon - Double Twist Waterproof
wvbeetlebug 3/3/2010 12:01:00 PM
Should've checked reviews first but I was already out and about. I was at CVS yesterday purchasing my Revlon PR so I picked up a twin pack of this mascara. Ouch! It's like applying mascara with a hair brush! I haven't poked myself in the eye with a mascara wand since jr high and I did it several times! The brush is super awkward. It's got big plastic teeth and buried in between are regular bristles. I had to carefully turn the wand a certain way to avoid the spiky plastic and losing an eye! The actual mascara didn't do any better for me. It did thicken my lashes, but within hours I was getting fall out under my eyes and I am not an eye rubber. Needless to say I will be returning this mascara today.

Treatments -Ojon - Restorative Hair Treatment
wvbeetlebug 12/19/2009 10:50:00 AM
I got a sample of this in my Sephora order. I had been wanting to try it for a long time. I am so glad I tried a sample of this instead of purchasing a full tub of it. I didn't mind the application process. I have used oil type treatments before, but this stuff REEKED! It smelled like cigarette ashes! I don't mind the herbal scent part, but the all I could smell was ashtray. It was like I'd spent all night in a smokey bar. You are supposed to leave it on for at least 20 minutes, but I just couldn't stand to leave it on my hair that long. After I rinsed it out, I shampooed my hair and then styled it as usual (no products this time though) and my hair felt very weighed down. It was as if I had not washed my hair in a 3 days and it had a lot of product build up. I'm not sure if I got it all out, but I definitely did not get the long silky texture I was expecting from this product.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Age Shield Sunblock Spf45
wvbeetlebug 3/31/2008 8:40:00 PM
This stuff is heinous! I should've checked reviews here before purchasing this product. I applied this in the morning prior to applying my makeup. When I applied my makeup it started rolling up on my skin. It was like I had mud on my face! So I used some cream cleanser and a washcloth to give myself a clean start. Applied some more of the Age Shield and sure enough it rolled up and flaked off too. I think the second ingredient is dimethicone, so maybe that is why it rolls up.

Stick -Shiseido - The makeup Stick Foundation
wvbeetlebug 12/28/2005 8:12:00 PM
I wore this foundation to the park with my son on a hot and humid Carolina day and it didn't budge. Even after sitting for at least 15 minutes in full sun at 2:30pm. When we went to the bathroom, I checked my face and it was still as flawless as when I put it on that morning. Plus, it actually made me glow, but not that shiny kinda glow that everyone else likes now. O20 was a perfect match for me. I am taking off one lipstick because this does have a fragrance, but it does go away after a while.

Foundations -Maybelline - Dream Matte Mousse
wvbeetlebug 12/28/2005 8:06:00 PM
I did not like this foundation mainly because of the color selection and texture. Nude was too light and the next shade up was too dark. I also did not like the way the product would ball up when I applied it. It did not last the day on my combination skin and it emphasized the flakiness around my nose.

Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Aquanil cleanser
wvbeetlebug 12/28/2005 8:01:00 PM
This my first bottle and so far I like it. I typically do not like lotion cleansers, but I like this one. It does a better job of removing light makeup than Cetaphil. It has a thicker consistency than Cetaphil and a pleasing scent. The scent reminds me of a cleanser that Aveeno used to make before they revamped their skincare line.

Cleansers -Avon - Keep It Quick 3-in-1
wvbeetlebug 12/28/2005 7:59:00 PM
This very basic lotion cleanser did not remove my makeup without having to use a washcloth, twice. A tube of this cleanser would not last long this way. It has a very basic lotiony scent. I did not like the screw on top. I did not have a full size tube, so maybe it is different.

Cleansers -Avon - Keep It Clean cleanser

This creamy foaming cleanser was too drying for my sensitive combination skin. A little bit does go a long way. I did like the light citrus scent. This comes in a big tube with a flip top so it is great in the shower.

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Foundation brush
wvbeetlebug 10/25/2005 1:04:00 PM
I discovered this while out of town. All of their stuff is is $.99. This brush is better than the Px one I purchased and returned twice and better than the travel Japonesque one I have. I like it better because it is not as stiff as the other brushes. I am using it to apply my Maybelline DMM foundation. Update: Works best with my CGAS.
