Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
rated 3 of 5
workandgirl 12/4/2007 5:33:00 PM

I finally delved into the hype of Lash Blast (mainly because I actually saw it stocked on the shelves!!). I almost bought three but decided that I could wait to buy more if I loved it. I'm glad I didn't buy three!

I look for a mascara that delivers thick, long and dark lashes. On a whole, lash blast does a pretty good job at that. If my lashes looked the way they do when I apply it ALL day, I would really love it.

However, it flakes. I've never really had to deal with mascara flaking so this is a huge let-down for me. When I go to check my makeup mid-day, i have to clean up the dusting of mascara under my eyes.

The big brush they advertise on all the commercials is also really cumbersome. It doesn't allow me to get into the corners of my eyes to really add additional volume. The brush isn't that bad, but the gigantic width of the actual tube and its lid are not helpful.

I don't think I would buy this again just because the application payoff does not stay the whole time. And, I think 8.50 is a lot to pay for a drug store mascara.

Polishes -OPI - Bogota Blackberry
rated 4 of 5
workandgirl 11/1/2007 10:03:00 AM

I do not like shimmery nail polish - I have a preference for the cremes. Thus, Bogota Blackberry is one of the first shimmery polishes I have worn in a really long time (I received it as a gift).

The formula I used was the new formula, with a pro-wide brush. I did three coats because two didn't quite cover what I wanted or give me the depth I needed.

Lately I've been wearing very dark burgundies on my nails and this is actually a nice break. I have medium to fair skin with some pinky tones mixed in. This color looks beautiful on my skin - almost better than the dark colors I've been wearing lately.

I really do love this color on my finger nails. It's not a very strong color, but very beautiful. I would call it a pinky dark cherry. Perfect for a work environment that doesn't allow a lot of flexibility in colors. However, I do not think I would like this on my toenails - it's too subtle for them.

I would definitely buy this again. I like how this shimmer looks!

Mascara -Shu Uemura - Precise Volume Mascara Waterproof
rated 3 of 5
workandgirl 10/25/2007 2:24:00 PM

I keep finding myself using this mascara daily, and daily hating the results.

a little about what i look for in a mascara? super long, super dark, lush lashes. my lashes are pretty long and really thick naturally.
this mascara is clumpy. i do not like it. if i wanted to use just a single coat or two on my lashes, this would be great. but i don't. i want to apply layer after layer and have super long lashes. my lashes don't get anywhere NEAR as long as shu's mascara basic and they CLUMP. the massive clumps i get really repulse me. even when i do a single solitary coat on my lower lashes, i get massive clumps.

the color payoff on this is nice. it's a true, dark and deep black (similar to mascara basic in color). i do like that this is waterproof, but at the end of the day, i have to remove this the same way i remove mascara basic. the basic is worth the extra 4.50 to me.

if the formula was better, i would really love the brush. i like how its angled - it is very similar to the fiber xtension mascara. it is easier to hit your lower lashes and get into the inner corners.

i really want to love this mascara, but i just don't. i was disappointed.

Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Glossing Cream with Olive Oil
rated 4 of 5
workandgirl 10/24/2007 11:43:00 AM

I've been hemming and hawing about purchasing this because of the price for a LONG time. I kept begging for samples at sephora because i only use a teeny tiny bit of this and a sample can last me for awhile.

well, i finally caved when i saw this sitting in the shelves on tar-jay. i purchased the 4 oz. tube for a little over 21 bucks.

what can i say? i love this. i have a lot of fly aways and this product helps tame those. i put this on my hair in the morning, damp, right before i blow dry. after my hair is super silky smooth. unlike when i use biosilk, my hair isn't so smooth that it is slippery and hard to manage. i do NOT put this on after i blowdry because i think that would grease my hair out.

because i use so little of this on a daily basis, i can see this lasting me for a really long time. this makes it worth the money and better in product than biosilk.

now, it is true, i like the scent. i just can't decide if i like the scent of biosilk or glossing cream better!

Lip Treatments -Palmers - Cocoa Butter Stick
rated 5 of 5
workandgirl 10/10/2007 5:28:00 PM

This is such a great, basic, well worth the 1.23 I spent on it item!

I bought one of these one a whim at CVS because I have to have a lip balm any place where I am (e.g. the car, the office, the kitchen, the living room, my bedroom, the bathroom). Boy am I glad I bought this! It's way cheaper than regular ole Chapstick and actually lasts longer!

This glides on very smoothly, almost creamy in its texture. It smells great and has a faint chocolate-y taste. What more could a girl ask for?

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
rated 2 of 5
workandgirl 10/10/2007 5:24:00 PM

I am always on the hunt for a good mascara. I am a devotee to Great Lash and Shu's Mascara basic because both extend my lashes a TON and add just enough volume without getting clumpy.

Boy, does Diorshow do nothing of the sort. While one could say that I get some quality length from the mascara, the clumps I have to deal with are not pretty! More importantly, when I take the wand out of the tube, there is almost always a BIG gigantic glob of mascara on the end of the wand and in the middle. It's hard to get that stuff off everytime! While I have no problem combing my lashes when I use mascara, I don't like to comb them through after every coat to get the clumps off!

It's true I don't experience any flaking with this mascara, but that's really the only good thing I can say about it.

Definitely not a mascara I would buy again.

Skincare - Body -The Body Shop - Exfoliating Gloves
rated 5 of 5
workandgirl 10/1/2007 1:21:00 PM

I love these gloves! I use them daily whenever I am in the shower - but I don't use these on my face because i think they are a little too rough. These exfoliate very well and work well with bar soap or a shower gel. I like this better than a wash cloth becasue it allows me to hold the soap on for the duration of my shower and also because I feel like I am really cleaning.

I have had my Body Shop version of these gloves for about a year and a half. I wash them in the washer (and dryer) once a week when I wash my sheets. It makes them come out like new. I would expect these to really last about another six months to a year and then I will probably need to get a new pair.

Mascara -Dejavu (Imju) - Fiberwig Lash Knockout
rated 3 of 5
workandgirl 7/27/2007 9:36:00 AM

I bought this two weeks ago and having been using it everyday since - mostly because i wanted to get a good feel for it before I made an opinion.

i have used kissme mascara for awhile now, and i don't love it, but i like the concept. since imju fiberwig is the same "tube" technology, i thought i would give it a try - i am glad i did.

this product advertises "paint on false eyelashes." while i definitely don't agree that my lashes look like i have false eyelashes on, they are certainly much longer. the fibers in this mascara (that you can actually see when you take it out) are what makes your lashes extend so much. if you are looking for just length, you will achieve very LONG lashes with this mascara with just a tad bit of volume.

i have a distinct feeling that this mascara only works if you really work it; meaning that you have to play up the coats, work the fibers to your advantage and take some time to use your mascara. if you are the kind of person who doesn't have time to put several (possibly 5) coats of mascara on your lashes and be patient with the application since you have to coax the fibers to go in the proper direction - this isn't the mascara for you.

all this being said, it does require a lot of work, but i like the results - even if some days when i'm not careful i look like i have split ends on my eyelashes.

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Lotion
rated 5 of 5
workandgirl 6/27/2007 10:54:00 PM

This is my HG facial lotion. However, it is ONLY my lotion during the night time hours. If i were to wear this during the day, my face would be oil slick city. obviously that's not pretty!

the reason i like this product so much is because it is a very basic, gentle and GOOD moisturizer. i find this is what my face needs after an entire day of makeup, elements, stress, etc etc (i could go on and one with what our faces endure!). my face doesn't need to deal with something that clogs my pours and irritates my skin at night. this absolutely does not.

i was wavering on if i really liked this product for awhile because while it does feel great on my skin - i can see why some wouldn't like it. i experimented with some other options for awhile and found that this really was the best. to top that off, a roommate of mine had a facial that really caused her skin to wig out (irritation, purging, etc). she found that all of the moisturizers she had further irritated her skin (AHAs, perfumes, ingredients). i offered her the yellow lotion of hope and she was AMAZED at how her skin really just drank the lotion and didn't react anymore. it calmed her skin down completely. how can you say know to a lotion like that?

i will say, a little dab of this lotion can really go a long way. there is absolutely no reason to get over a pump of this lotion at a time for your face because it's just too much. i really like this in the pump package and it's the same price as the non-pump.

i will continue using my HG dramtically different moisturizing lotion because i can't find anything else that so "dramatically differently" soothes my skin every night.

Accessories -Unlisted Brand - SPANX
rated 5 of 5
workandgirl 6/24/2007 9:22:00 AM

are spanx expensive? yes. are they amazing? yes.

this weighs it all out for me.
i first bought spanx and fell in love. you know that infomercial where they have like the "lift and love" or something? spanx has the same results. i can wear pants than were pretty tight before. i can wear really close-fitting dresses again. i love wearing spanx with too-tight, too-thin clothing where certain lumps might show through because i don't have them anymore.

i will say that a few months ago i bought spanx from filene's basement (so excited that they were there!) and i wasn't as pleased with them as the "super tummy control" that i found previously. for those that have roll-down, i would recommend buying the ones that go all the way to the top of your ribcage.

bottom line, these are worth it. you CANNOT get the same results from control top pantyhose.

Scrubs -Unlisted Brand - Buff Puff
rated 4 of 5
workandgirl 6/11/2007 4:52:00 PM

Oh, I used to use Buff Puffs all the time! I haven't used them in awhile, primarily because I don't remember the last time I saw one.
From what I remember of these, they do a great job of exfoliating, and cleansing the skin.
Because what I used were individual, disposable, smaller little squares, it was easy to move them around my face and get the amount of makeup I wanted to get off my face, etc.
At the end of the day, I don't that these are a standout product in today's market, with the numerous types of disposable cloths, pads, etc. However, when I used these, they were great and hard to find anything else like them.
also, they were very easy to travel with - even easier than the common cloths and such you can find today. they scrunch up and you can just toss them away!

Eyeliner -Shu Uemura - Drawing Pencil
rated 4 of 5
workandgirl 6/11/2007 1:09:00 PM

I didn't buy this as an eyeliner and don't use this as an eyeliner - my skin is too oily for a product like this to maintain quality. When I have tried it as an eyeliner (you've got to experiment!), I have noticed it does not "slip" as much as other products. I've only used it on my top lash line and have noticed little underneath my eye.
I use this in my crease and really love the effects from that. When blending, it looks great and I can still layer shadows over/under the pencil. I will say that it is clearly not CREATED to blend/smudge around the eyelid as sometimes I have to really force the product to blend. But I guess that's okay since it means less smudging when I get oily later during the day!

Crème -Shu Uemura - Water Perfect Water-in cake Foundation
rated 4 of 5
workandgirl 6/11/2007 11:57:00 AM

I like ths for a heavier coverage than I have with the same EXACT shade I use of the nobara foundation. It is good when you might have need for heavier coverage, but also want to cover something up (freckles, sunburn, scarring, etc).
This is much heavier than Nobara and I find that I frequently want to use it more as a concealer than a foundation. I don't think I would purchase this if i used it solely for a concealer, but I do like it for that purpose.
I also like the packaing of this much better than the Nobara. Comes with a sponge, easier to open, etc.

Eye Shadow -Shu Uemura - ME Viridian
rated 5 of 5
workandgirl 6/5/2007 2:28:00 PM

As with all Shu shadows, the packaging is awful (but I still love it to death).

the packaging makes this look like a bright bright turquoise. but really, it's not that bright on the face. I was worried I would bring it home looking like I just got a bad "makeover."
it's not. i have a very professional, serious work climate and i wear it to work with no problems! it really comes out as a pretty deep blue that could easily be blended more to become even more neutral.
as i've mentioned before, the gold filigree at the begining is just for show and really has no impact on your face.
same beautiful powdery finish that i love in every shu eyeshadow i've ever used. i can't stop buying these!

Eye Shadow -Shu Uemura - ME Olive
rated 5 of 5
workandgirl 6/5/2007 2:23:00 PM

first note: i hate the packaging on all shu eyeshadows (but i oh so love their shadows anyway).

i was a little wary of buying this shadow at first, but then i saw how versatile it can really be. in fact, it is so versatile, i've found myself frustrated that it is not as green as i would have liked!
this eyeshadow has the same smooth, silky consistency that all shu eyeshadows have. the filigree at the beginning is just a pretty thing that really makes no impact on how the eyeshadow looks on the face. dangit for LE!
