Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Taylor Swift Wonderstruck
rated 5 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 6/1/2013 5:18:00 PM

NOTE: I have the 30 ml of this frag for swap now. For some reason, it just makes my nose uncomfortable, it still smells the same, but I have sensitive skin so even slight changes that just naturally occur can affect me (btw I keep my frags in dark places away from extreme heat/cold and not in the bathroom, so it has nothing to do with storage) This scent strikes a sort of nostalgia for me, it is young but not in a bad way. The tea (which is right behind a creamy vanilla and raspberry in order of strength), honeysuckle and trickles of floral notes is what makes Wonderstruck a tad more different from your typical fruity teenager fragrance. It is delicate, soft, slightly warm. As for those saying this smells like Bieber's Someday, I disagree, as I have smelt that scent which has a very sharp, tart berry and the perfume itself is not so much a composition as Taylor Swift's. I am not getting Spear's Fantasy either (except for Fantasy's fruity top notes), as her fragrance is very, very gourmand whereas Taylor's is more fruity, a fruity fragranced tea. All-in-all I enjoy Wonderstruck. It captures an innocence that you can only see in a child, a hint of magic, nostalgia, but never in a cheesy way. I would repurchase now and again to be in that state, but no one should have a constant longing to be somewhere else (and perhaps you won't get that specific vibe with Wonderstruck, however that's opinion)

BB Cream -Maybelline - Dream Fresh 8-in-1 BB Cream
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 6/1/2013 5:14:00 PM

I definitely agree with a lot of the reviews saying this can get a bit orange--unless you go for the Snooki look, I would skip on this product for the darker skin tones. As for me, I chose Light and it blends quite nicely into my skin. I use a small dab and it's enough to blur mild redness and brown spots, which annoy the hell out of me, I got them from my mother. I have combination skin and it is oily on my forehead, this is definitely not an oily skin "bb cream"--speaking of the labelling of this product, how about we all go ahead and admit this is just a tinted moisturizer? It isn't a bb cream, and I don't see or feel any amazing differences in my skin, so it's not a bb cream. Overall I give this 4 stars because it works for my skin tone and gives a very natural look--afterall, even real bb creams are supposed to give light coverage.

Sunscreen -Eucerin - Daily Protection Moisturizing Face Lotion - Broad Spectrum SPF 30 Sunscreen - 4.0 FL. OZ. 118mL
rated 5 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 5/6/2012 3:44:00 PM

I have been searching forever and ever for an SPF daily sunscreen that: - Had SPF of at least 30 - Uses the SAFEST sunscreens (a lot of drugstore sunscreens have nasty nasty SPFs such as homoslate and oxybenzone--the irony that these sunscreens can cause cancer!) - No white cast - Lightweight - BROAD-SPECTRUM UVB/UVA protection - At the drugstore and not extremely expensive - Doesn't irritate my sensitive skin - No breakouts It took me a long time, but after sifting through makeupalley's reviews, I came across Eucerin SPF Lotion. Eucerin is a brand for Rosacea and Sensitive Skin, so I was especially excited, since I have both issues. After reading the reviews, it seemed to fit my criteria. I was so excited to go to the USA and get this: only $7 @ Target!!! WOW! I have been using this for about two weeks now, and no signs of acne/skin irritation coming from this product! It is so lightweight and though initially, it goes on white, this quickly goes away once you rub it into your skin and leaves NO WHITE CAST. I really want to grasp everybody at just how hard it is to find a sunscreen with the LOWEST CANCER-CAUSING sunscreens that has NO WHITE CAST and is so darn CHEAP! All other reviews I have went through on MUA were expensive brands like Shiseido, but they still left a white cast and were $50 for a bottle in Canada. The only problem is that it leaves the skin a bit sticky and it never really goes away. Not that a little dusting of powder can't help. Overall I would give this 5 stars cause it fits my criteria for sunscreen 100%, it took forever to discover this gem. I have tried but stopped using (and forgotten) many other sunscreens like Neutrogena and L'Oreal because of the bad-chemical sunscreens they use. Never again. Only Eucerin.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Ultra Sheer Dry-Touch Sunblock SPF45
rated 3 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 4/4/2012 8:50:00 PM

DO NOT BUY IF YOU HAVE SENSITIVE SKIN!!! This made my face burn mad red. It doesn't leave a white cast, but that's due to the horrible chemical ingredient sunscreens, 10% homoslate is pretty high and this is one o f the more worse chemical sunscreens. The irritation may NOT even be the formula, BUT THAT HOMOSLATE CAN BE CONTAMINATED WITH SALYCLIC ACID. (But I am not giving a low rating because of chemical sunscreens this isn't the naturalbeautyalley). The formula applied way too thick and it was impossible to rub on my face. I don't find it controlled a lot of oil however I think it was nice as a face primer as my face felt more smooth after application. Overall I would not repurchase because of the formula thickness and it's obv. not suitable for my skin type. I'd rather invest in a sunscreen that doesn't contain a crap amount of chemicals and irritates even sensitive skin.

Brows -Almay - Brow Defining Pencil
rated 2 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 4/1/2012 2:45:00 AM

Crap crap crap when compared to the Maybelline Define-A-Brow, where there are a variety of pigments and the formula is waxy to last most of the day yet not too hard where you have to dig onto your skin. This only cOmes in two shades, excuse me? Thank goodness I am Asian with my dark hair, as the dark brown is for people with dark hair/brown hair. But the formula is WAY too creamy and starts to fade within 2 hours. This is a let down since my Maybelline can last a good 5 hours before the fading starts to look SLIGHTLY significant, combined with my slightly oily forehead and bangs that are drawing oils to my brows. Do yourself a favour and go buy the Maybelline one, you will nit be disappointed.

Liquid -Rimmel - Lasting Finish 25 Hour Foundation
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 3/22/2012 4:21:00 AM

I'm a foundation noob, so I did excessive MUA searching on drugstore foundations before I came upon Rimmel Lasting Finish and I read the good reviews. I have been using it for about a week now, so far and I really like it. It goes on very smooth/creamy texture and doesn't take forever to dry, I don't feel you need to set this with powder (however, I do use Rimmel Stay Matte b/c of Period 3 dance class). Although the bottle says it is hydrating, I don't find it to do anything in particular, nor does it do anything worse on my slightly oily T-zone, it is just a chill in the middle foundation. I use my fingers to blend and I only spot treat my acne scar zone and redness on my cheeks and jaw, it looks very natural on my skin. Not too pink or yellow, it is a neutrual tone in Ivory 100. I don't know what's a particularly good time for lasting power, but since it is 25 hours, you should expect something. I haven't tested this to its full extent though as I try to take off my foundation afterschool (6 hours). I've checked my face in between periods and when I get home from school and no crazy problems as far as I can see. No cakey icky stuff. The real real real downer here though is the poor colour selection and misleading names of the shades. I picked up Ivory, even though I am not a red-headed pasty European, but I am a light-skinned Asian, youd figure the name "Ivory" would be left to those skin tones. I still felt the colour was a tad too dark for me, so I'm going to apply a bit less and mix with my SPF moisturizer. Other than that, I think this is a great overall foundation. Medium coverage, decent lasting power, natural look and easy application, forgot to mention you FORGET it's on your face, it is weightless! The hunt's just beginning! I will continue my search, but for now, this seems like a good foundation to start off on!

Lotions/ Creams -Cetaphil - barrier cream
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 3/4/2012 10:36:00 PM

My brother has extremely cracked, dry red and scabby hands, and was recommended this cream by the family doctor along with some medicated cream. While I don't know how well it has worked out for him ( he has been lazy with applying both creams to his hands) I know for a fact this works wonders on elbows and knees! I cannot stand creams that do not absorb or stay greasy on the skin, which is a majority of drugstore lotions, but this is INSTANT absorption. It keeps my hands and cuticles nice and soft, but minus the grease! ahhhhh! It is a bit pricey, yes, and can only be used for face or spot treatment because it is a small tube, but all those $4 giant lotions are no good to me, they can be irritating at time (sensitive skin persons like me) and they ALLLLLLLLL contain petrolatum or mineral oil, YUCK! This doesn't contain a shat-load of ingredients I can't pronounce. I would give 5 stars, but the hunt is still on, and I am just getting into lotions right now! But I would say this is an overall, nice, simple, clean, lovely product!

Moisturizers -Pro Activ - Pro Activ Spf 15 oil free moisturizer
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 2/24/2012 3:16:00 AM

While 99% of my acne and oily skin is long gone, I still enjoy this product. For acne prone and combo skinned individuals, this provides the perfect.tad of moisture and SPF without actually.making you oily or causing breakouts. Sure, there is probably better stuff out there. It seems water downed and smells.like sunscreen. The product doesnt even list if it's UVA/UVB protecting, its probably not photostable. Buuuuuut I must point out that the SPF is LOW TOXICITY AND CANCER CAUSING titanium dioxide and octinoxate are some of the BEST AND SAFEST spfs to use. Combined with the fact you can find that along with light weight moisture for combos and acnes proners is a rarity, most companies use Avobenzone and Oxybenzone. Plus no white cast with the natural titanium dioxide.

Liquid -Annabelle - SkinTrue Natural Lightweight Makeup
rated 3 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 2/24/2012 2:51:00 AM

Really wanted to love this foundation. I had gone to the mall that day to buy Rimmel Lasting Finish makeup which looked natural and had good reviews. I bought this on impulse instead because the packaging reminded me of Proactiv Spf moistruizer which I love, it made me think.simple and clean. Although I love the weightless feel, its light coverage, and decent lasting time, unfortunately, this made me break out in red hotness all over my face!! I have crazy sensitive skin, and instead of hiding redness, it produced more on my face! Up to my cheekbones where it never is! So I wont be buying this again. But I dont give it a complete crap rating because I know someone will be able to use this that have less sensitive skin that's more thicker and stronger. I might have seen a bit of grey undertone but Im not sure. Either way, tied on this product overall.

Lip Treatments -eos - LE Strawberry Sorbet & Passionfruit 2-Pack
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 1/22/2012 10:03:00 PM

*IMPORTANT NOTE PLEASE READ:***** Well I'm obesessed with the EOS line if you read my reviews. I just adore the organic, natural, and overall product value of these little balls! They are great great great. THE PROBLEM I would like to address with many reviews is what happens with buying the EOS balms is WHEN YOU BUY THEM. I found when I got my first ever EOS it was in a small dingy little Target in the U.S. outside Seattle. I found the balm to be a bit tough and took several weeks for it to get soft and more balm-like. However, when I bought one fresh out of my local London Drugs (which I frequent bi-weekly & YAY finally in Canada!) the exact same flavour (Summer Fruit) I found to be much much more softer than the one I bought at Target. So BE AWARE of where you buy these things, after all, they are 100% natural and 95% organic right? These don't stay fresh for 1000 years. ***CANADIAN WHO WANT TO FIND THESE PLEASE READ: **** Living in Canada I know it's always ever so difficult to find all the U.S. products people are raving about. From my experience, you seem to find the EOS lip balms in the weirdest of places, behold; I found this limited editon pack at RW&Co.!!! A clothing store in the middle of my freakin' mall! Weird weird weird! And for anybody who wants the original stable flavours, Canadian's can now purchase the Summer Fruit, Honeysuckle Honeydew, and Sweet Mint @ London Drugs!! HOOOORRRAAAYYy! *****THAT WAS LONG. Onto actual review:******* SHINE/TEXTURE: I've found all the EOS sphere lip balms to leave a subtle shine, and these ones are no different. It is definitely not greasy or heavy feeling as always, it goes on in a thick-ish consistency depending on how much you layer this. No tint. I find that EOS is one of the few lip balms that do not irritate my lips EVER coming from miss sensitive and cracked mouth corners lip girl. So I really love using these on a daily basis. STAYING POWER: Is standard from my experience, 2-3 hours. SCENT: Passionfruit: Eh, it doesn't smell like passionfruit. But it smells nice and fruity, so I can't complain. Strawberry Sorbet: I disagree with a lot of the reviews on the Strawberry one. I do think it smells like Strawberry, but more of a dessert type of Strawberry; hence why they add "Sorbet" to the end of the flavour. The scents fade after awhile and isn't obtrusive in any way. They kinda have a flavour as you start to use the balms more, don't know why. PACKAGING: Obviously freakin' amazing and epic. The balms are so colourful and quirky. But it's more than just looks. I like the egg design because with a standard dial-up balm, I have to constantly check to see how much product is left. With the EOS spheres this is never a problem. It SHOWS HOW MUCH YOU HAVE LEFT. The bulky packaging is perfect for us purse-girls out there. PRICE: $10.00 for 3 (I got the holiday edition which came with the Sweet Mint one). Only $3.33. Some may call that expensive for a drugstore product, but you are getting 7 GRAMS OF PRODUCT VS 4.2 GRAMS OF THE STANDARD BALM. If you vs Burt's Bees and EOS in the U.S. it is $2.99 for both (when you bought just one EOS) OVERALL: Sweet-scented, natural flavoured lip balm that is 100% natural and 95% organic with the most quirky, adorable packaging and a great price! BUY AGAIN: YES!

Polishes -L'Oreal - Pro Manicure Nail Polish - Base Coat 100
rated 2 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 1/22/2012 9:25:00 PM

At first I remember buying this all the time simply because it was just the first base coat I ever used so I sticked with it. While I love the consistency and the brush, which I think is perfect, the base coat itself does...Nothing. The polish barely has the tacky feel that most base coat have to lock the polish on your nail, I feel it makes no difference in chipping/peeling on any nail polish brands; Sally Hansen, New York Color, Revlon, E.L.F, LA Color....to say the least. Unfortunately, it's time to branch out from the one sole base coat I have been using, I should know better as a nail polish addict.

Lips -Bonne Bell - Lip Smackers -- Cherry Coca Cola
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 12/27/2011 12:47:00 AM

I got this in an 8 pack with 7 other soda pop flavours from my cousins who know I'm a lip balm fanatic hehe :) To my surprise, Lip Smackers has delivered a moisturizing flavoured lip balm made with quality ingredients (Beeswax, Castor Seed Oil) that isn't greasy! LOOK/TEXTURE: Lip Smackers techinically advertises its products as a LIP GLOSS, so yes, it does have a sheen and glossy feel when applied. I don't mind it at all, it is a nice in-the-middle shine that doesn't scream grease. To my surprise it left a subtle red tint on my lips, great for little makeup days. It doesn't last very long however, even for everyday balm I thought it was a tad bit on the thin side. SCENT: Spot-on Coca Cola and cherry smell. It has a tad bit of the flavour. PACKAGING: Standard dial-up 4g lip balm. I can check how much available product I have left and it won't take a millenium like the other ones, it seems to twist up a bit faster. Adorable deep red colour with the Coca Cola logo. PRICE: I found out the price of the 8-pack to be $10.00, I think that is very affordable. OVERALL: A fun flavoured and scented lip balm great for a bit of tint and keeping your lips smooth! BUY AGAIN?: Yes!

Lip Treatments -Chapstick - Strawberry
rated 2 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 12/27/2011 12:29:00 AM

Oh yes, Chapstick, how can a lip balm collector such as me NOT try the cult favourite and brand that started it all? Unfortunately, I am not in favour of this balm. It's old news to the drugstore lip balms we have nowadays. TEXTURE: Upon application, it feels like thick matte wax, which I don't mind, sometimes I like to feel my lip balm and its barrier, but within 10 minutes, Chapstick turns into a greasy, shiny, mushy texture. The lasting power is decent however. SCENT: Very obtrusive medicinal cough syrup scent. And this is coming from someone who can't smell stuff very well unless it is STRONG. Fades though, but it just reminds me how cheaply made this lip balm seems(is). PACKAGING: It has the label "Chapstick" in a plastic wrapping over the standard lip balm case. It would be nice if the plastic wrapping didn't move around and make it difficult to dial up the stick at times, what happened to using a sticker for your logo? PRICE: Only $1.99 regular price at the drugstore here in Canada. BUY AGAIN: Nope, sorry. While I actually like Chapstick for times when I need more of the protection than the moisturization because of the 44% Vaseline/petroleum jelly it contains, I could just use actual petroleum jelly than Chapstick.

Lip Treatments -Nivea - Nivea Fruity Shine in Pink Guava
rated 4 of 5
whawhawhacawhaaawhaa 11/6/2011 3:06:00 PM

Another hit for Nivea! I don't know I`ve ever foundd a lip balm from them that I have NOT disliked! PRODUCT: The texture is thinner than Nivea Essential. It's moisturizing but I wouldn't recommend this as the first choice in the dead of winter! (Tinted flecks of dead skin don't look very pretty anyways) It's leaves a glossy sheen that's more subtle than lip gloss with a hint of rose colour (Would be appropriate for all ages and great for an everyday flush). PACKAGING: What I love about Nivea lip balms is that you can easily twist the bottom up like a lipstick to check how much product you have left. Unlike the traditional sticks, it takes a millenium to roll the stick all the way up, plus you risk breaking the product off if you aren't super careful. The whole thing is slightly taller and wider than a traditional stick, but can still fit in a pocket. The lid is a warm rose colour with the Nivea logo and little cartoon sparkles around it. PRICE: Only $1.99 regular price at the drugstore here in Canada, plus you get 4.8 g of product compared to the usual 4.2 g in the regular stick. BUYING AGAIN?: YES!!!
