Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
rated 1 of 5

I decided to try this because of a Sephora gift card that was given to me, and Sephora didn't carry my usual mascara. I was really disappointed to say the least. I don't quite comprehend why fashion magazines rave and rant about this mascara. First - the brush is very large - twice the size of any mascara brush I have ever seen. The large brush doesn't exactly equate to "better" performance - it was very difficult to coat the inner and outter lashes - and because of the large brush, I end up getting mascara around the edges of my eyes/skin when trying to get the smaller lashes. Second, there is way too much product that comes out of the tube - the brush is covered with a large glob of black goo. After 2 weeks into using this mascara, the bristles on the brush collasped. Seriously, for $35 I got a junk/cheap drug store mascara with "Dior" written on the tube. I was expecting a whole lot more. I guess anything can be a "best seller" if the company dumps a large marketing and promotion budget into it.

Tinted Moisturizer -Estee Lauder - Day Wear Plus SPF 15 Tinted Moisturizer [REFORMULATED]
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 10/26/2009 6:42:00 PM

I replaced my foundation with a tinted moisturizer 7 months ago, and read several reviews on MUA and did my research before narrowing it down to a select few to test out. This TM was one of them, and after going to the cosmetics counter and sampling all, this was a winner by far. I also like that this was one of Paula's Picks, has antioxidants to fight free radicals, contains SPF 15, and is ultra sheer. I don't need much coverage, so I was looking for a TM that is more of a moisturizer rather than a foundation. This TM applies beautifully (you don't really need a lot) and lasts all day without feeling like you are wearing something on your face. I did apply a bit of my regular moisturizer before apply this TM. For those who are looking for something with coverage, this is not the product for you, nor should you be looking for a TM. This afterall, is a tinted "moisturizer."

Treatments -Biosilk - Silk Therapy
rated 3 of 5
wenlinyuen 10/26/2009 6:30:00 PM

I got the large bottle for $19.99 and it lasted me for over 5 years. I have long straight hair (down to my rib cage) and I only use one drop. I rub it all over my hands and apply the bottom 6 inches. I still found it really greasy, and it transferred to my hands every time I ran my hands down my hair. Even though it did a decent job at making my hair silky, it also made it really limp. I have replaced it with Got2Be's Smooth Operator lotion.

Styling Products -Got 2 Be - Smooth Operator Smoothing Lustre Lotion
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 10/26/2009 3:42:00 PM

I purchased this after reading all the raving reviews on this, and it really lives up to all the outstanding comments. I have really long straight hair (down to my rib cage) and just one full pump of this smoothing lotion is all it takes to give me silky smooth and soft hair. It definitely controls flyaways and makes damaged ends look refreshed. The bottle is super cute and I absolutely love the smell. Like one of the reviewers said, it smells like exotic pineapple. I was using the Biosilk smoothing oil before but even one drop of that on the ends of my hair still made it feel greasy....and leaves my hand greasy too whenever I touched my hair. This Got2Be smoothing lotion is superb! Got mine at Ulta for $6.

Mascara -MAC - Zoom lash
rated 2 of 5
wenlinyuen 8/9/2009 8:00:00 PM

I have purchased this mascara in the past two times. The first time, I thought the quality and the results it produced was comparable to a drugstore mascara. I got results that didn't live up to it's promises. After I finished my first tube, I thought I must have gotten a bad tube because MAC products are usually pretty good, so I went and purchased a second tube. I was really disappointed to find that it was the same: no volume, lots of clumping, and spidery-leg lashes. After that, my conclusion was that you are really dropping $22 on a drugstore-quality mascara. I will not repurchase.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
rated 1 of 5
wenlinyuen 8/9/2009 7:52:00 PM

First, let me say that I'm asian and like most asians I have barely-there lashes (thin, short, and few). I ran out of mascara, and didn't want to walk 6 blocks to a department store to repurchase, so I decided to run across the street to a drugstore. This caught my eye because of all the commercials claiming this to result in "volumous, long lashes." So I thought for $8, I have nothing to loose. Well, I should have spent my $8 on two Starbucks coffee instead, because this did not do anything for my lashes. Nothing. Other than slightly darker lashes, my barely-there lashes were still barely-there. This mascara is great for those who already have full and long lashes and are looking to slightly intensify it. But not for me.

Skincare - Face -Nuskin - Clay Pack
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 8/9/2009 7:31:00 PM

Been using this clay mask for 8 years now. I have an oily t-zone, and this product is excellent at acheiving a deep cleansing job and removing excess oil. I use it twice a week and it keeps my oily t-zone in check. My face is smoother, softer, and shine-free after this mask. It takes approx 20 minutes for this mask to dry (or sooner) and you can rinse it off after the clay is not wet anymore. For best results, I recommend exfoliating your face prior to applying the mask. I purchased mine from www.nuskin.com for approx $15. The tube will last for 2 months with useage of twice per week. Key ingredients include: Natural kaolin and bentonite clay—draw out excess oils, dirt, and impurities that clog pores. Aloe vera—helps soothe and nurture skin. NaPCA and other humectants—keep the skin hydrated and soft.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Mascara Volume Effet Faux Cils
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 8/9/2009 7:17:00 PM

First, I'm asian and like most asians I have barely-there lashes (thin, short, and few). I have tried everything from drugstore to department brands, curved brushes, straight brushes, etc. Nothing satisfied me in terms of acheiving fuller and longer lashes that really stands out, not until I read the reviews of YSL's Effet Faux Cils on MUA, and went out and purchased it right away. Upon the first coat, my lashes were noticeably longer and darker. The second coat, it made my lashes fuller and even longer...and the third coat, it gave me the appearance of fake lashes. I've never curled my lashes before mascara, and this mascara pretty much curled my lashes for me. If you are looking for the "fake lash" effect, I definitely recommend being a little patient and applying 3 coats of this product. You just really need to wait about 20 seconds for it to partially dry before applying the next coat. As some previous users have experienced, my tube of mascara started out a bit watery, and then after a few weeks it seemed to be dried out a bit. To remedy this, I sprayed in a few squirts of my Jane Iredale POMMIST toner spray, and it was practically like new again. If you don't have the POMMIST spray, a water-based toner (alcohol-free) will work just fine. I've been using it for 3 months now, and it's still almost like new (considering that I've had to spray my toner in every few weeks to stop it from drying). I got mine at the Holt Renfrew, downtown Vancouver for approx. $45. If you have the money to spend, I recommed it. It's my HG.

Masks -Nuskin - Epoch Glacial Marine Mud
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/11/2009 5:43:00 PM

You can see the oil spots that has been absorbed from your face onto the mask when the mud dries. Been using this mud mask for about 6 years, and each time this mask removes dead skin cells and excess oils from my face. This mask leaves your skin with difference you can actually see and feel. To use, wash your face and remove traces of makeup. Apply mask by squeezing the mud onto a small bowl (tip: to avoid the mud squirting out everywhere, shake the tube and bang it lightly onto countertop to ensure mud has settled to the tube opening). Apply a thin layer onto face, avoiding eye area. Leave the mask on until the colour has changed from a dark/wet green to a light/cakey dried mask. Notice all the tiny oil spots it has absorbed. Rinse off and follow with toner and moisturizer. I do this at night, and wake up with soft, shine-free skin. There are 30 skin beneficial minerals, including zinc and sea botanicals in this mud. From the Nuskin website: Legend has it that Native Americans of the Pacific Northwest tried to make pottery from this special mud. They were unsuccessful because of its fine particle size, but noticed their hands were softer and smoother. Epoch Glacial Marine Mud is naturally deposited in an estuary in British Columbia. Nu Skin has exclusive rights to use this rare resource. THE FOLLOWING ARE SOME OF THE OVER 30 SKIN BENEFICIAL MINERALS FEATURED: Copper—helps improve skin strength, cutting down on fragility. Zinc—an essential mineral for healthy skin. Magnesium—a necessary component of the skin's natural energy cycle. Silver—aids the skins antimicrobial activity. Chromium—helps maintain balance in the skin.

Eye Primer -Mary Kay - Eye Primer
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/11/2009 5:31:00 PM

I've been using this eye primer for about 8 months and there's a significant difference in my eye makeup with this primer on. A tiny dab on each eyelid is all that is needed (about half of an eyedrop). This primer goes on transparent. It is recommended that you put on your eye shadow/makeup immediately after the primer because that is when primer is most effective at bonding makeup to your eyelids. After a 14-hour day, my makeup looks as fresh as in the morning. This primer is excellent especially for those using pigment/loose eye powder. My tube lasted for about 8 months. I recently re-purchased by contacting a local Mary Kay representative on www.marykay.ca. This was about $20 (Canadian) and considering that it lasts for 8 months and exceeds other eye primers, is worth it for me.

Lip Treatments -Mary Kay - Satin Lips - Lip Mask only
rated 1 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/7/2009 7:30:00 PM

I got this a long time ago as a present and used it several times. I have dry chapped lips, and was hoping that this treatment would help. It did....my lips were a bit softer afterwards for a day or two, but nothing a normal gentle exfoliator scrub/cream wouldn't do. For me, this treatment is an unnecessary product. Glad it was a present, because I wouldn't have paid for it.

Eyeliner -Yves Saint Laurent - L'Eyeliner Noir The Black Eyeliner
rated 3 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/7/2009 7:07:00 PM

I have mixed reviews for this eyeliner. I purchased it along with YSL's faux effet cils mascara (now my HG), and really wanted this eyeliner to have the same review as the mascara....but....here's the PROS and CONS that I've experienced. PROS: the tiny brush allows you to be versatile on how thin or thick you want the eyeliner to be (thinner for daytime, thicker for nightime). The texture of the liquid glides on beautifully...almost silky. The liquid isn't too watery but watery just enough. Another thumbs up for this eyeliner is that it is probably the best liquid eyeliner to close off the base/edge of the lashline for fake lashes. Here are the CONS: this eyeliner is very expensive (about $40+ Canadian). Because the brush is so tiny, it doesn't hold enough liquid to line one complete eye without having to dip into the tube again....and if you don't line back properly to where the first line stopped, sometimes you can see where you've stopped/restarted the line again. The thinner the line, the tougher it is to realign. The bottom line is....if I had unlimited funds, I will buy this liquid eyeliner again, but for now I think something for half the price will do the job.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Pigment in Melon
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/7/2009 6:36:00 PM

This is a great base colour, easy to blend and have a touch of shimmer effect. I have brown eyes, medium complexion, and this is one of my staple base colours for everyday wear. Because this such a soft neutral colour (think of a blend of light bronze, soft peach, and a bit of gold) it can be worn alone or with darker/richer colours for a more dramatic effect for night time. With this Melon pigment as a base, browns and darker gold-toned colours on the outer corners of your eyes make for a warm look, but if I'm looking for a more cooler look, a medium purple on the outer corners blends beautifully with this colour. I have also tried this as a highlighter for my cheekbones and it is absolutely georgeous.

Shampoo -LUSH - BIG
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/7/2009 5:58:00 PM

This is the only shampoo that I keep coming back to. BIG gives my fine, limp hair mega volume and shine that lasts all day! I used to have highlights and lowlights in my hair four years ago, and found that this shampoo will strip any artificial colours off, so if you have coloured hair - this is not the shampoo for you. As some have mentioned before me, I do not use this as a daily shampoo because one shampoo job with BIG will leave your hair seriously squeaky clean (absolutely no oil is left on your hair afterwards!). Instead, I recommend this as a clarifying shampoo to be used 2 times per week, and follow up with a rich moisturizing conditioner. Some people on here have mentioned that this does not have the big lather effect on them, but I believe it's because they didn't wet their hair completely. To get the big rich lather others have experiened, you first need to make sure your hair is completely wet throughout (especially at the roots). Another plus for me is the smell.....it smells like fresh laundry detergent, and the smell of this when shampooing is very uplifting for me. It can be tricky trying to screw the lid back on the container with one hand and holding the clump of shampoo in the other hand, and trying not to get water in the container at the same time. But the trick is to just put the lid on the container so water does get in (and it won't), shampoo and rinse, then screw the lid back back on completely. I like that BIG contains natural/organic ingredients: Sea Salt, Fresh Lemon Infusion,Toothed Wrack Seaweed Infusion, Fresh Sea Water, Fresh Lime Juice, Coconut Oil, Neroli Oil, Mandarin Oil, Vanilla Absolute, Orris Absolute, Limonene, Linalool, Benzyl Benzoate.

Cleansers -Nuskin - Pure Cleansing Gel
rated 5 of 5
wenlinyuen 5/7/2009 5:11:00 PM

Been using this for about 6-7 years and it really does it for my skin. I have combination/oily skin, and this cleanser is made exactly for this skin type. This cleanser is very gentle (I only use a few drops) but it is very effective at removing makeup and unclogging pores. I've never used a makeup remover prior to washing my face with this (never needed to!), and this cleanser completely removes all my liquid eyeliner and mascara off at the end of the day (I just very lightly rub the cleansing gel in a circular motion on my eye area). This nutrient-rich cleansing gel contains the Nutricentials ingredient papain—an enzyme from papaya that breaks down the debris of dead cells, oil, makeup, and pollution to free clogged pores. This soap-free, foaming formula helps control oil without overdrying. The retail web price on www.nuskin.com is $17 (Canadian) for a 150ml bottle.
