Shampoo -L'Oreal - EverCreme Cleansing Conditioner
rated 4 of 5
wendirr 6/20/2012 11:34:00 AM

I have been using Wen and Sally's Hair One for a couple of years now, and I have to say that this L'Oreal product is much better than both of them. Out of the 3, I'd say that Wen is the worst and the least conditioning, but still much better on my dry hair than shampoo, which is why I've used it for so long. The L'Oreal definitely made my hair shinier and more moisturized, and my curls seemed better formed. The pump does not dispense enough with each push, so you will have to spend a little time dispensing it. It does have a lingering scent, which I normally do not like, but it is so mild and inoffensive that I kind of like having my hair smell like it. This product is relatively inexpensive, especially compared to Wen and Hair One, and you can get some real bargains on it at CVS combined with coupons from the paper. I will continue to use this product.

Styling Products -Aveda - Confixor
rated 4 of 5
wendirr 1/16/2012 3:21:00 PM

I had given up on gels years ago because they made my hair too flat and crunchy. I've been using mousse for a while and just making peace with the slight frizz I'm left with. Then my mom gave me some Confixor because she didn't like the smell. Wow, I love gel again! This is hands-down the best gel I've ever used. In fact, it's one of the best hair products that I've ever tried, period. I first use Style Prep smoother, then some Wen styling cream, then a dime sized amount of the Confixor (I have shoulder length hair). I dry with a diffuser and end up with perfectly formed curls that don't frizz -even on the second day when I don't wash it! Love, love, love. The only possible drawback I can see is the high price, and if you don't like how the Aveda store smells, then you won't like the smell.

Eye Shadow -Avon - 24K Eyeshadow Quad
rated 2 of 5
wendirr 12/3/2010 10:18:00 PM

I am normally very pleased with the quality of Avon eyeshadows, but this quad was the exception. I got it in Gleam Gold and while the colors looked really pretty in the compact, they didn't go on well. There was a lot of fallout under my eyes (I normally get none with other Avon shadows). They are also not very pigmented and did not blend easily. The upside is that they are in a very nice compact, are generously sized and very affordably priced. I would not recommend buying this quad, but do try Avon's regular eyeshadow quads.

Eyeliner -mark - no place to run longwear eye liner
rated 3 of 5
wendirr 8/28/2010 1:20:00 PM

I have tried many eyeliners in many forms looking for one that would actually last on the inner rim. I have to say that this one lasted the longest of any that I've tried. At the end of the day, most, but not all, of the liner was still on my inner rim. I have deep set eyes and always have a problem with thick eyeliner transferring onto my eyelid. Unfortunately, this one transferred, but not as badly as some I've tried. It doesn't apply really smoothly, but I guess that's a small price to pay for liner that actually stays put on the inner rim for the most part. I think the price is a little high for an Avon/mark product.

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - retractable kabuki
rated 4 of 5
wendirr 8/22/2010 1:05:00 PM

This is one of the softest brushes I've ever used. I can't believe it's synthetic! I use it to apply PRESSED mineral makeup and I get a lighter coverage with this brush than with other kabukis I've tried. I love that the brush is retractable.

Skincare - Face -Avon - Skin So Soft Facial Hair Removal Cream
rated 5 of 5
wendirr 7/5/2010 12:23:00 PM

I have never had any luck with Nair or Veet. They didn't seem to remove any hair at all, regardless of how long I kept it on. I didn't have high hopes for the Avon version, but to my surprise this product far exceeded my expectations. I left it on for 4 minutes and it removed everything, even coarse hair. It did not have an offensive odor and did not irritate my skin. My skin is normally very sensitive to any hair removal products, so that was unexpected. To anyone who had irritation problems with this product, I would recommend cutting down the time that you leave it on. The directions say to test the area after 2 1/2 minutes and do not leave on longer than 8 minutes or you can get chemical burns.

Foundations -Sally Hansen - Inspired By Carmindy Natural Beauty Your Skin Makeup ] [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
wendirr 6/7/2010 5:44:00 PM

I was hoping this would give me a natural, no-makeup kind of look. Unfortunately, it looks very "made-up". I would say it is a medium-to-full coverage. I am very pale with neutral undertones and I normally wear the lightest shade of foundation in any brand. However, the Porcelain was a little too light and made my skin look a little corpse-like. The good thing about this makeup is the pump! I hate makeup that isn't in a squeeze tube or pump. Also, it didn't seem to make my skin any oilier than it normally is.

Crème -Avon - Ideal Shade Cream-To-Powder Foundation w/SFP 15
rated 2 of 5
wendirr 6/6/2010 1:00:00 PM

I have combo-to-oily skin and this foundation still made my small drier patches much more noticeable. It did not last very long on my face. After about 2-3 hours I didn't even look like I'd put makeup on. The good thing about this makeup was the color. I have a very hard time getting a good match for my extremely pale, neutral skin and the light ivory was perfect.

Foundations -Avon - magix cashmere foundation
rated 4 of 5
wendirr 5/19/2010 6:49:00 PM

I bought this in Light Ivory and I love the color. It is one of the few foundations that are actually light enough for me. Normally the lightest color in most brands is still too dark for me. It applied very nicely and is not too heavy, but does provide some coverage. Unfortunately, it really emphasized the few dry areas on my face. (I have slightly oily, acne-prone skin.) Also, as the day wore on the foundation settled into my lines (I'm only 35 so the lines are not that bad) and faded on some parts of my face.

Fragrances -Jo Malone - Lime Basil Mandarin
rated 1 of 5

I was hoping this would be fresh smelling, but to me it just smells like a men's cologne mixed with kitchen herbs. Yuck!

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Prai Scent Of A Woman
rated 3 of 5
wendirr 1/22/2010 8:08:00 PM

I've been wanting to try this for years since the notes in it sounded interesting. When I saw a gift set on HSN that included the 1.7 oz. fragrance and travel sizes of the lotion and shower gel for only $39.95, I just had to order it. (Even though I know better than to order perfumes I haven't ever smelled!) Unfortunately, for me it just had that kind of generic, heavy "perfumey" smell and I am sending it right back. I was hoping it would be kind of light yet complex, but all I really get is smoky patchouli. My husband actually kind of liked it though, so maybe it is a "man magnet" scent like they claim!

Gels/Soaps -Philosophy - Cafe Au Lait 3-in-1
rated 2 of 5
wendirr 1/17/2010 12:34:00 PM

This was the least-scented Philosophy 3-in-1 that I have ever tried. I was looking for a very "coffee" smell and this is definitely not it. In fact, it has such a faint scent that I really couldn't tell you what it smells of. It's not that it smells bad or offensive, it just doesn't smell much of anything at all. The only reason I gave it an overall rating of 2 is because, like all Philosopy 3-in-1s, it gives lots of creamy lather with just a small amount of product.

Gels/Soaps -Philosophy - Cinnamon Hot Dots 3-in-1
rated 5 of 5
wendirr 1/17/2010 12:30:00 PM

This smells exactly like the candy that I loved to eat as a child. I think I like this one even better than Philosophy's Cinnamon Buns. I think this scent is the most authentic of any I've tried. Like all of their 3-in-1s, this one has lots of creamy lather. The smell does not linger on your skin after your shower, but that's one thing that I like about it because I wouldn't want it to compete with my perfume.

Toners -Neutrogena - Alcohol-Free Toner
rated 4 of 5
wendirr 1/12/2010 5:40:00 PM

I swore off toners years ago because I really didn't think they did much of anything if you used a good cleanser. A few months ago I decided to try this toner since my face was breaking out constantly. I only use it at night after cleansing. At first, I didn't think I really needed it because I didn't see much dirt or residue on the cotton pad. Well, after several months of use (and this being the only change in my skincare routine) my breakouts are dramatically improved. I went from usually having at least one pimple on my face at all times to having maybe 2 pimples a month. I'm not sure if it's this toner in particular that is helping, or if any toner would do the trick. However, since this seems to be working and it is very inexpensive, I will continue to use this one. I really like the lightweight, plastic bottle with the flip-top. It is very convenient packaging.

Liquid -Revlon - Beyond Natural Skin Matching Makeup SPF 15
rated 4 of 5
wendirr 9/2/2009 3:58:00 PM

I really like this because it looks very natural, like I'm not wearing makeup, but still evens out my skintone. It's a no-brainer to apply because it blends in seamlessly. It is a very light coverage, so you shouldn't wear it if you are looking for medium or heavy coverage. It has a nice semi-matte finish and my combo skin doesn't get too oily from it. I like the squeeze container; it's sanitary and only a small amount comes out when you squeeze it so there is no waste. I usually wear the lightest shade in any brand and the light worked great on me.
