LOVE this stuff. i seriously noticed a difference in my skin texture overnight. i also think it makes a difference when you pat this into your skin, rather than rubbing it around. when i wake up, my skin is glowing :) plus, you really can't beat the price. i'm just not crazy about the glass jar it comes in. it's not as hygienic and the glass is heavy.
This is a really beautiful and unique shade...a rosey bronze. I was looking for something that wasn't too pink and not too coral/apricot either. It adds warmth to the skin though I'd probably recommend it for medium to dark skin tones. At first, I thought the color would be too strong and shimmery but I was wrong. It's really pretty :) It catches just enough light without having shimmer overload, which I was trying to avoid. I've been wearing matte blush for awhile and felt like I could use some shimmer in my repertoire to brighten up my complexion. The Sephora 'blush me!' blushes had great reviews overall. Plus, it's only $12! Go try 'em out :)
Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Devita Daily Solar Protective Moisturizer spf 30
waimingsiu 1/10/2011 2:37:00 PM
This is my HG moisturizer. I use Devita solar protective moisturizer for my face...as well as their body version. I like that it only contains zinc oxide as their sunscreen. I've been avoiding products that contain oxybenzone, after reading numerous articles about the long-term side effects of oxybenzone. And it's nearly impossible to find sunscreens that don't contain that chemical, esp. in a drugstore. Plus, I avoid titanium dioxide after learning that it could lead to cancer. But nothing bad has been said of zinc oxide so I stick with that. Plus, it contains hyaluronic acid, which is great for your skin. This moisturizer sinks into your skin, doesn't leave a white case on your face, and feels wonderful. It helps leave a smooth palette for make-up application. There isn't anything I don't love about this...except maybe the packaging. I wasn't crazy about the tub. And I'm not crazy about the glass tube, which is an improvement...but I feel like it's so heavy and fragile. I wish it was a plastic tubular bottle.
Styling Products -Sexy Hair Concepts - Root Pump Plus
waimingsiu 1/4/2011 10:05:00 PM
i bought this on a whim at Nordstrom Rack, of all places. I didn't have any expectations since I didn't read reviews on it before using. I have fine, layered (Asian) hair and it worked really well on me! I think the key is to make sure you don't use TOO much of it. I sprayed it only in the roots when my hair was still a little damp (but not straight out of the shower). Then I put my head upside-down and used my blow-dryer and used my fingers, not a brush, to tug my hair away from the scalp. And voila...voluminous hair!
Top/Base Coats -Essie - Good to Go! The Fastest Drying Top Coat
waimingsiu 10/18/2010 11:23:00 PM
OMG, this is the best topcoat i've ever used. And I'm not normally a fan of Essie to begin with. I'm a total OPI girl. And I've used a bunch of different Sally Hansen topcoats as well...and none of them have impressed me as much as this one. It dries much more quickly than the other ones and dries harder. I'm always denting my nail polish after painting them...ALWAYS! But now I don't have to be super cautious w/my freshly painted nails for so long b/c I've found my HG topcoat :) you can maintain your manicure for much longer if you reapply the topcoat every 2-3 days too.
I am IN LOVE with this shade! Surprised by how few reviews there are though. I have dark brown eyes and so this color really complements them really well. You can pull off a daytime or nighttime smoky eye look with this shade, depending on how deep you want to go with it. I highly recommend for ppl with brown eyes :)
Mascara -Maybelline - Define A Lash Volume Mascara
waimingsiu 10/12/2010 3:44:00 PM
I saw the not-as-positive reviews about this...but then it was 40% off at my local pharmacy so I decided to give it a try. I personally really like it. It adds some volume in a natural looking way. I wouldn't recommend it if you are looking for a mascara to give you dramatic results. But it's definitely good for a day-to-day basis. It doesn't smudge at all on me though, which is a plus!
Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Homemade Sea Salt Spray
waimingsiu 8/25/2010 6:14:00 PM
I was doing all this research for the perfect beach sea salt spray...when I came across these recipes. So awesome!! I tried it last night with some finely ground sea salt (2 tsp), Herbal essence conditioner mixed with Wen's lavender almond deep conditioner (just short of 1 tsp combined), and some spritzes of extra strong hold hairspray (have yet to try gel...didn't have any on me at the time). Worked like a charm :) It left my hair with waves, volume, and softness (probably due to the conditioners I chose). I had to add more salt in the mixture for the waves since 1 tsp wasn't enough. But yeah, just tweak the recipe according to your hair type. I love it! :)
Primer/ Corrector -Cover FX - Cover Fx Skin Prep Fx
waimingsiu 4/15/2009 10:48:00 PM
I'm surprised so many people aren't happy with this product. The first time I used it, I did look oily by the end of the day. But I just set it (I also use the Cover FX cream foundation, which i love love love) with a LOT of translucent powder and it's fine. I don't even do touch-ups anymore although I do still get a little bit oily. But I put on my makeup at 7AM and it's still in good shape 12 hours later so I can't really complain. Plus, this primer has all those nutrients and vitamins. It actually cleared up my skin! Nearly all of the whiteheads on my forehead are now gone :)
This foundation is HIGHLY pigmented so a little goes a LONG, LONG way. Truly. I had a difficult time maneuvering it the first time around. But then I went to a Cover FX event @ Sephora...and they taught me to buff it into my skin (instead of using the foundation brush, which I thought was nearly impossible to spread even with their primer on). The buffing technique works wonders. I also love how you can build the coverage. Usually, my freckles are nearly impossible to cover...but this stuff hides most of them (when I want to hide them, that is) pretty well. It DOES oxidize a bit but the make-up still looks divine in photographs. They use this on Project Runway so you know it's definitely a professional-quality make-up brand. I love it :)
i actually really liked this eyeliner! i just layered it on top of my normal liquid eyeliner (i use wet 'n wild) and it adds a nice sparkle to my eyes. i recently wore it to an event and people were complimenting me on my eyeliner :)
I was watching a make-up tutorial on YouTube and they were showing the versatility of the Lise Watier Portfolio. I decided to purchase it and have come to really love it. I primarily had bought it for the lavender color but the undereye concealer is AMAZING! I was previously using the Laura Mercier Secret Camouflage but like the Lise Watier much more. It hides my bags completely and the texture is creamy (the LM is really cakey). The lavender and green work really well too. I am now completely dependent on this little portfolio :)
i received this as a sample from sephora...and LOVED it. i was using the laura mercier primer for awhile but have now completely converted over to this one. it doesn't clog my pores and helps control my oily skin. i can see how it wouldn't be suitable for someone with dry skin. however, when i use this primer...i don't find the need to blot my face later on, which is wonderful :)
I was all excited about this mascara because it seemed to get pretty good reviews. I was really disappointed in it though. While it does lengthen, it clumps and leaves my eyelashes look long but sparse. Um, no thanks. I prefer Maybelline's Full & Soft mascara.
Liquid -Cle de Peau - Refining Fluid Foundation SPF 24
waimingsiu 3/2/2008 7:33:00 PM
i was lucky enough to receive this as a gift from a friend that works at shiseido. i RARELY ever wear liquid foundation (usually, i put on bare escentuals mineral foundation instead) but i love this stuff! it goes on very light and airy...and provides light to medium coverage. unlike my powder foundation, this doesn't transfer onto clothing as much. i am completely loving this foundation but i'm not sure if i'd be willing to pay full price for it.
