Eye Shadow -NYX - Eyeshadow * ES19 Flamingo
veiled89 1/6/2013 1:21:00 AM
I think this is my favorite eye shadow. It is neutral, being that the base is brown. But it has a hint of pink, as well as lots of gold in it. On my olive skin tone and dark hazel eyes, it really shows up as beautiful. I can dress it up or down, depending on how much I put on and what other colors I use with it. Really a winner!!

Blush -Pixi - Cheek Gel Blush
veiled89 9/8/2012 6:12:00 PM
I really like this blush. It is so natural looking. I have naturally flushed cheeks, but really only in one spot. The flushed color allows for me to blend my blush in a more flattering way with a seamless effect. I have a light olive complexion, and this is literally the perfect pink for my cheeks. It is sort of a berry red, like raspberries. It works great under powder foundations; however, if you wish to apply a full coverage foundation (cream, liquid), you will find yourself covering up the blush, and it does not apply well over such foundations. It really is meant for bare skin application with lighter foundations over, or on top of lighter liquid/cream foundations (like a tinted moisturizer). Maybe I just don't know the technique to applying over a heavier foundation, but I really only have luck using this as a stain. As I use only tinted moisturizer or powder anyway, this works perfect for me!

Conditioner -Neutrogena - triple moisture deep recovery hair mask
veiled89 9/8/2012 6:01:00 PM
I really like this conditioner. I have 3A (loose curly) hair. This conditioner helps to keep my hair moisturized, soft, and manageable. I does not weigh hair down, nor does it help control frizz, which is why I only rate it a 4. That being said, frizz is always an issue for me, and I can use products after my shower to form more defined and cut down on frizz. I will continue to use this as my go-to deep conditioner (which I use around 3x a week), as it really helps keep my hair healthy, shiny, and soft.

Hair Color -Garnier - Herbashine
veiled89 8/9/2011 11:26:00 PM
This is my go-to hair dye for summer. My brown hair has VERY red undertones, and so in the summer sun it becomes VERY auburn naturally. For the past few summers I used Garnier's permanent dye in order to make it a bit more golden brown vs auburn. Well, that was fine, until I tried this. It doesn't appear to damage my hair and the color is great. Because I do dye my hair and it grows fast, there is a bit of a root line where my hair naturally differs from the color. And my natural color right out of the scalp is medium brown, so it is clearly visible when compared with the auburn-ish, golden-ish hue I get with the natural lightening of my hair and the dye combined. So I end up using this around every 3-4 weeks. More than recommended, but since it hasn't had a negative effect, I guess I'm not sweating it too much. Price here is around $7 a box, so it does add up, but since I only use it in the late spring, summer and early fall, I guess it can be my "indulgence" and avoid having an orangey tint to my hair. I don't think I'll use a permanent dye again unless I want to drastically change my hair color, as with this you can't.

Conditioner -Clairol - Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner
veiled89 8/9/2011 11:15:00 PM
Although I only gave this conditioner a 3, it does give my hair added smoothness. That is about all it does, because the moisture isn't that great. But when I use it over a moisturizing conditioner, the smoothness is usually awesome. I use a variety of conditioners and mixtures with them, but if I need added moisture, this is what I apply on top of the moisture conditioner of the day. This can build up and weigh hair down, so I don't use it every day. But I keep it in my arsenal.

Cleansers -St. Ives - Naturally Clear Green Tea Cleanser
veiled89 8/9/2011 11:13:00 PM
I really like this cleanser. Now that I am out of my teen years, I need to continue to use an acne wash, but one that isn't so harsh. This cleanser isn't drying, keeps my redness down and still prevents breakouts. I really like the combination of gentleness and deep cleansing it provides for me. Although this may not be the best acne wash for teens or those facing more than a zit here and there, it is great for a "transitioning adult"- one who is no longer a teen in need of harsh cleansers to fight acne, but not totally ready to move into combating wrinkles. A good buy and a good price.

Styling Products -Clairol - Herbal Essences Totally Twisted Curl Scrunching Gel
veiled89 8/9/2011 11:09:00 PM
I don't use this every day or even close to that. I live in a dry climate, so a gel doesn't typically do anything good for my hair. All it does is make it crunchy and stringy. That being said, when I go somewhere humid or when it rains here, this gel is awesome. When there is humidity in the air, this gel gives my hair definition, prevents frizz and provides a great barrier to the moisture around me. When I have used it during humid times or in humid places, I don't get weird residue, flakes and it isn't too crunchy and doesn't do the weird stringy thing other gels do. Worth repurchasing if I plan to be somewhere humid and I'll keep what I have on hand for a rainy day. :)

Lips -Nivea - A Kiss of Milk and Honey
veiled89 8/9/2011 11:03:00 PM
I LOVE this lip balm. It is less greasy than most, and yet it still is hydrating. I bought it on a whim (buy one, get one free), and am loving how moisturized my lips are. They feel smooth, look healthy and even feel plumper because the skin is healthier and plumper. A great purse staple.

Lip Treatments -Smith's Rosebud Salve - Smith's Rosebud Salve
veiled89 8/9/2011 10:59:00 PM
I ALWAYS have some of this on hand. I tried it on a whim 4 years ago when it was $.50 at Walgreens. I thought "hey, its fifty cents! I'm in college and need some lip balm for cheap, why not this." Since then, I have had this on hand at all times in my home. I have learned that its a product that is best kept at home, as if it gets hot, it may leak out into a backpack, purse, car, pocket, etc. So, I keep it on my little try on my desk and with my hand lotion in my ottoman/coffee table's tray area. Needles to say, when I have dry lips or a dry rough patch of skin I will rub this on. I love the old time-y packaging, the color, the scent and the results! I even love the little tin, even though it makes transportation of it nearly impossible. I will continue to repurchase forever probably. Haha.

Conditioner -Neutrogena - Triple Moisture daily deep conditioner
veiled89 8/9/2011 10:53:00 PM
This is a great conditioner when your hair needs some moisture but is having issues with being weighed down. I keep about 3 conditioners in the shower at any given time (so I can use whatever my hair needs!). I purchased this along with the shampoo and both of them have been winners so far! Although I don't use this conditioner every day, it is awesome when my hair needs a good thick conditioner that doesn't weigh hair down, as sometimes moisturizing conditioners will do that. If you have curly, frizzy, lots of hair or dry hair, this would be something worth trying out. If it works, for around $5 its worth keeping around! Update: I no longer use this conditioner. I prefer to use the deep treatment rather than this one. It has the same moisturizing properties as this, but I can use less and slather another conditioner over it and reap the benefits. I have found a regimen that works extremely well that does not contain this as part of it.

Shampoo -Neutrogena - Triple Moisture cream lather shampoo
veiled89 8/9/2011 10:49:00 PM
So I have just finished my first bottle of this and am now on to my second. I have decided to repurchase for several reasons. One, because it is not drying on my hair. Two, because it actually cleanses. And three because it is easy on my semi-permanent color. I can't bear not to use shampoo at least a few times a week on my curly hair; it just doesn't like not to be cleaned. It is always smoother, softer and less frizzy after it has been washed and conditioned vs. just conditioned. However, that being said, if it is a harsh shampoo or one that is drying over time, it gets ugly fast. I got through an entire bottle and have not experienced any negatives to this yet, so hopefully it stays that way! I can afford it and if it keeps my hair nice it'll be here to stay for me. UPDATE: This ended up drying my hair after long term use. I may switch back to it eventually to rotate my shampoo, but for now I am no longer using.

Treatments -Organix - Coconut Milk Anti-Breakage Serum
veiled89 8/9/2011 10:45:00 PM
I can't believe I haven't written a review for this product, as it has been my go-to for about a year now. The ONLY serum I found that did everything I wanted and had no side effects or things I disliked. As far as serums go it is AWESOME. It smooths, softens, tames and possibly nourishes (not sure about this one). Either way, my hair never feels bad, dry or brittle from this. Plus, it seems not to be water resistant, as in, it will wash out even with just water alone. One down side is until you find how much you need to use you either might use too much (greasy) or too little (frizzy). The package is awesome (pump makes it easy to always use the same amount and the locking mechanism prevents spillage). If you need a serum or want to try one, try this one. Plus the smell is great, a light coconut smell, but it is not strong by any means.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Proclaim Argan Oil - Hair Oil Treatment
veiled89 8/9/2011 10:31:00 PM
So I have really been trying to take care of my unruly, 3a curly (with some waves), shoulder-length hair since I recently chopped 6 inches off. Whether it is having a really curly day or a flat wavy day, this oil has helped manage it. It gives it shine, moisture, frizz control and softness. Depending on my needs I will sometimes put a quarter size of regular conditioner over it for some added moisture and control, sometimes a golf ball size of mousse (suave curls one) or some ULTA brand curl cream. I like that the oil provides a nice base and my hair never feels dried out (which the curl cream sometimes could leave it feeling before). Overall, I recommend having a bottle of this on hand if you have curly, frizzy and/or dry hair. It makes for a great base or can be used alone depending on needs. It is $7 a bottle, but will last several months, so ends up being cheaper than the serum I was using (Organix coconut). Plus, when Sally's does a buy 2 get 1 free sale, I can stock up for less (3 bottles on hand will last a LONG time). The only con to the product is the packaging. While I have never had a huge mess, I can see how that could happen if the bottle fell over or I poured too much into my hands. I wish it came with a pump like the Organix coconut serum! I'm actually considering using the rest of that up and pouring my new fave hair product into that.

Powder -Mary Kay - Mineral Powder Foundation
veiled89 10/23/2010 3:41:00 PM
I love this product. I have a light olive skin tone, and finding makeup that matches always seems hard (either it is too red or too light). So finding a shade that matched and blended perfectly was the first plus. The second plus was that it is buildable coverage, if I'm having a good skin day, one thin layer is enough. If not, I can apply more as needed. It always looks natural, never chalky. The third plus is it a very soft powder, my face feels smooth and soft. Yes, it is slightly expensive, but it is better than any drugstore mineral powder I have tried, and much less expensive than bare minerals or other such brands. Also, some have mentioned it being chalky. I'm sure if your skin is not properly prepped (washed and moisturized), then it could get chalky. You must, must, must moisturize skin when using a powder foundation, even if it is oily. Give this product a try. There is a no-risk purchase option, so if you try it and hate it, you can get a full refund. Plus, since you hardly use very much (in comparison to drugstore brands) to get coverage, the per use cost may come to be about the same!

Styling Products -Suave - Professionals Healthy Curls Mousse
veiled89 5/14/2010 11:06:00 PM
LOVE this mousse. It doesn't make my hair hard, leave a strange feeling film or flake. All it does is define my waves/curls and leave them soft. I'm a big fan of this. I use various conditioners (I rotate them depending on what my hair needs and what I'm feeling like), do a coconut oil deep conditioner once a week and once I'm out of the shower I put in leave in conditioner, biosilk/Sally's silk treatment and then a generous amount of this mousse. My hair looks GREAT. No frizzies (which was a huge problem...my hair always gets so poofy), defined curls and soft, touchable hair overall. This mousse is not only inexpensive, but it is something I use in my hair whether I wear it up or down. Always have this around. Also, it smells great, very clean smelling...just a bonus!
