Cleansers -LUSH - 9 to 5
rated 5 of 5

im sure my five star rating for this product says it all, but i truly love this product. for about three years now, ive had these horrible pimply bumps on my forehead that would not go away. i tried everything: everything i could find at the supermarket/drugstore, horribly strong prescription acne treatments, you name it, it went on my skin. what was particularly frustrating about these pimples was that all through high school, i had wonderful skin. people complimented me on how lovely my skin looked and it was easily my best asset. then, i started college and i broke out. i eat very healthy (id say 90% of my diet is macrobiotic), i exercise frequently, i do everything right... and yet i still had these pimples. i finally turned to lush after being intrigued by their products for a while. the first skincare product i tried was the wonderful mask of magnaminty which did make a difference to my skin, but it wasnt the absolute miracle product to banish my pimples. i used this product simply as a makeup remover (and not a treatment cleanser which is supposed to do all the hard work)... and yet after using this, my pimples faded noticeably! i used another makeup cleanser for a while and the pimples returned, then i used 9 to 5 again and my pimples kept fading away! three long years i have waited for my forehead to become smooth again, and the day has finally arrived. i know it probably seems a bit silly that im making such a big deal out of this, but lets face it (no pun intended?), the way we look does have an impact on how we feel and this product is making my skin glow. i would give this a four star rating because of its less-than-sparkling ingredients list (im sure a lot of us by now have caught on to the fact that lush isnt quite as natural as they like to make out, especially on their continued use of parabens and sulfates in their products), but the vain me is loving the fact that my skin has finally cleared. i would like to try ultrabland next but i will most certainly return to this fabulous product. thank you lush!

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies
rated 2 of 5
valentineshigh 9/18/2011 7:52:00 AM

i bought this at the same time as the colossal volume mascara (in the yellow tube). what can i say... maybe its because the colossal volume mascara was so awesome that this one seemed to pale in comparison. the formula is super wet and all it does it coat my eyelashes, but it doesnt make them thicker or longer. i think my eyelashes actually look thicker BEFORE i apply this, it has this weird effect on my eyelashes. plus even if i curl my lashes beforehand, this makes them go back to their original shape. it smudges easily on me (ill have racoon eyes by the end of the day) and it just doesnt do anything for me. ill be buying the colossal volume mascara over and over again, but i wont be purchasing this one again.

Masks -LUSH - Mask of Magnaminty
rated 5 of 5

one word: AWESOME. seriously, this mask is amazing. after reading largely (if not only) positive reviews for this product, i decided to head down to lush and pick one up for myself. for the longest time, ive had these horrible small bumps on my forehead that kinda look like new pimples or pimples that are just about to explode and get ugly. theyve been there for a good six months or so and no matter how many different products i used (i even tried using this horribly strong prescription acne treatment that my sister uses), they would not budge. i applied this mask and after the first time using it... the bumps were all gone! my forehead was smooth and it looked like the bumps were never there! i literally spent a good ten minutes just staring at me forehead thinking, '...no way'. ive used it several times now and my skin just keeps looking better after each use. i have this wonderful just-went-for-a-run glow on my face. my skin has not looked this good in a long time. id be crazy not to repurchase this!

Lotions/ Creams -LUSH - Karma Kream
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 7/2/2011 7:32:00 AM

i tried this on at a lush shop (i was in there to pick up another pot of the fabulous mask of magnaminty) after the lovely friendly SA recommended it to me and i tried a little on my hand. admittedly i didnt really like it, ive never really been into woody-oriental smells but for the rest of the day, i literally couldnt stop smelling my hand! i kept thinking it reminded me of something and it was bugging me trying to figure out, until i realised that it smells exactly like my bottle of coco mademoiselle by chanel (i bet coco chanel herself is rolling in her grave at the comparison). it is a very polarising scent, you will either love it to bits and declare it your signature scent or you will absolutely hate it (ive heard one girl describe the smell as 'dirt and oranges'). i actually bought this today and even the girl at the counter was like 'oh... so you like karma? i personally cant stand it' lol! there really isnt any other smell like this, i dont get any 'hippy' smell or 'dirt and oranges' smell, i get a lovely almost incense-like scent and i dont mind that i look like a weirdo for always smelling my hand because of this cream. i think the people for whom this cream works well with are very lucky because this really is a gem :) will buy over and over again!

Fragrances -Christian Dior - Dior Addict 2
rated 3 of 5
valentineshigh 6/9/2011 7:41:00 AM

i got this as a gift from my mother, who is an avid perfume wearer and it seems ive inherited the perfume-loving gene lol. this fragrance is pleasant, but ultimately forgettable. for me, it has that 'typical' perfume smell - its fresh, feminine and pretty, and borderline boring. its definitely a crowd-pleaser/appeal-to-the-masses sort of scent. i would actually say because of that, it would be a good gift for someone who is just starting to get into perfumes because its very likeable. im not entirely sure why dior decided to release this scent as 'dior addict 2' - it has absolutely nothing in common with the original dior addict. dior addict is dark, almost sinister, promiscuous and heady, not to mention polarising because you either love it or you te it. when im buying perfumes i look for something that is more individual and could potentially be my signature scent. this fragrance, as lovely as it is, isnt really what im after. i wont repurchase.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types
rated 1 of 5
valentineshigh 5/30/2011 7:53:00 AM

did NOT like this stuff at all. i dont get how some people say they think this product smells like lavendar, all im getting is wet dog and chlorine! my sister bought a jar and i tried it on my face, the next day my forehead and chin had broken out and it took me over a week to get my skin back to normal. the texture is strange, its like watery cream cheese or something. my skin is combo/dry leaning towards dry and this broke me out which says a lot about this product. however i tried using it on my neck (my neck often gets dry and i get ecszma sometimes) and it hydrated my neck pretty well. then again im not going to shell out for a pricey neck cream that smells awful. thank god i wasnt the one that made the purchase because i wouldve definitely regretted it. definitely not worth the hype.

Fragrances -Sonia Rykiel - Rykiel Woman Not for Men Perfume For Women
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 2/17/2011 5:30:00 AM

my sister received this as a gift from our french homestay (whose mother owns a perfumerie), and i was given guerlain's aqua allegoria flora nymphea. i sprayed both on each wrist and immediately afterwards, i felt so lucky that i was given the guerlain one, not the sonia rykiel one. the thing is, after a couple of hours i kept wanting to smell the sonia rykiel one because every time i took a sniff i could smell something different... almost like looking at an abstract piece of art from different angles. it reminds me alot of dior addict (though i like this one over addict), it manages to be mysterious but in-your-face at the same time. it makes a bold statement but what the statement exactly is, isnt made clear. this is definitely a head turner, if you walk past a guy youre interested in while wearing this fragrance, he wont be able to figure you out and i bet he'll be running after you with his tail between his legs and itll seperate the men from the boys. this perfume is the natural body smell of arabian princesses, egyptian queens, european seductresses and golden-era hollywood icons. it is effortless, but dangerous in its effortlessness. give this one a try.

Lotions/ Creams -Nivea - Nivea Creme
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 11/29/2010 5:09:00 AM

i bought a tin of this after reading numerous reviews comparing it to the legendary creme de la mer (apparently the ingredients are quite similar, and so are the results). i definitely love this as a hand cream and a neck cream, and even an emergency moisturiser when a dry patch appears. i carry the tube version with me when i am travelling on a plane and i use it as a night cream sometimes as well. i havent tried the de la mer cream but the fact that its even getting compared despite the drastic difference in price is good enough for me. bottom line: its cheap, and it works.

Scrubs -LUSH - Buffy the Backside Slayer
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 11/28/2010 5:31:00 AM

i am definitely in love with this product. i bought the 'big buffy' version and im so addicted to it, it kills me that i only use it once a week because id love to use it everyday! at first i was surprised that its not as 'scrubby' or granular as most exfoliators im used to, but i like that its not as abrasive but gives just as good of a result. plus the feeling ofyour skin after youve washed it off is amazing, your skin feels so hydrated that it feels like you dont need a moisturiser. the scent is very typical of lush, a herby kind of smell. generally im not very fond of those kinds of earthy herby smells like tea tree, but this one was very pleasant. i will definitely buy this and recommend this to anyone who will listen!

Treatments -LUSH - Whoosh Temple Balm
rated 3 of 5
valentineshigh 8/27/2010 8:41:00 AM

as a college student, im always in need of a pick-me-up but i avoid caffeine stimulants and energy drinks because theyre crap for your body and theyre only short term. that being said, i was looking for something that would be able to wake me up in an instant and i came across this product! at first sniff, its a fresh citrusy and slightly herby scent, but if i sniff it too much it begins to smell like dishwashing liquid. i rubbed a bit on my temples and wrists before i entered a lecture, and i cant say that i felt particularly awake or concentrated during the lecture. the smell also fades quite fast (after about 5 mins i couldnt smell it anymore). i initially thought it was more of a placebo product, but yesterday i spent the whole day sniffing it because it smelt so darn good, and i actually couldnt get to sleep at night! lol the smell, texture and packaging is very similar to that of l'occitane's verbena solid perfume. i think this lush version is a great dupe for it (less than half the price of l'occitanes) but l'occitane's is a perfume, so the scent actually lasts a few hours. just for anyone who might be interested, haha. im not sure if ill re-purchase. im very interested in the whole concept of aromatherapy at the moment, so im keen to buy 'flying fox' temple balm as well. but for now, im still on the search for my pick-me-up!

Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane - Mom and Baby Balm
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 8/6/2010 8:52:00 AM

this is my 'everything balm' - i carry it around with me because its so multi-purpose. it works as a lip balm, a quick moisturiser, even an emergency hair product! at home, i actually use it for facial massages because its safe enough for baby skin, and therefore my face too. it is super greasy but its a balm, what do you expect? haha the SA told me it was more economical to buy the larger version but because i wanted to be able to carry it around with me, i bought the smaller compact size. plus i only use a tiny amount each time so im sure if i bought the larger size now, id still be using it by the time im in my deathbed! i guess how you rate this product depends on what you use it for. for the reasons i use this balm, i think it works fantastically and i will purchase again.

Lotions/ Creams -Palmers - Cocoa Butter Formula Moisturizing Body Oil
rated 4 of 5
valentineshigh 7/21/2010 7:04:00 AM

i really love the smell of this. i found that if i used this as a moisturiser after a shower, it would actually make me get pimples on my arms and legs... however i loved that my skin did feel silky for the most part. the way i use this oil now is by adding 2-3 capfuls into a running bath. afterwards, my skin is hydrated and silky beyond belief and i dont break out from it at all. its handy especially during winter when its like no matter how many times i moisturise, my skin still ends up dry. your skin will know no dryness if you use this in a bath. also love the smell!

Lotions/ Creams -Vaseline - Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning lotion
rated 1 of 5
valentineshigh 7/15/2010 7:53:00 AM

i have to say i was really disappointed with this. there was an ad for it in a magazine claiming that if you didnt prefer vaseline's cocoa butter range over that of palmer's, theyll give your money back. im a huge fan of palmers so i decided to give this lotion a go. it smells more like hot chocolate than cocoa (which i have no complaints about). however its very light and i found that it wasnt hydrating enough for my skin during the winter. also i didnt really like the feeling it left on my skin, it was a little rubbery and i like my skin to feel really hydrated after i moisturise. i didnt ask for my money back but i have to say ill definitely be sticking with palmer's from now on.

Fragrances -L'Occitane - Peach Blossom EDT
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 7/11/2010 8:09:00 AM

im a big fan of peach scented beauty products, especially the body shop's peach body butter, so i was super excited to find out l'occitane had a peach perfume. it definitely wasnt what i expected, upon first sniff i didnt actually catch any whiff of peach at all. i sprayed a little on my wrist to see if it was compatible with my skin before purchasing, and a few hours later i could smell the peach and it was juicy, refreshing with a lovely floral note as well. i have to say i have another weird reason why i like this scent, its because it reminds me of the smell of the shampoo aisle in a drugstore in my hometown, like a big mix of all kinds of delicious scents. i like that all of l'occitanes fragrances are very original so you never have to worry about someone else stealing your signature scent. will definitely repurchase.

Fragrances -L'Occitane - Honey & Lemon (Miel et Citron) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
valentineshigh 7/9/2010 10:10:00 AM

i am so happy i found this scent. i had actually been put off any fragrance that smelt vaguely like vanilla, because most girls my age love to pile on your typical teeny bopper vanilla celebrity fragrances and i like to use a fragrance as my 'signature'. i came across this perfume and i instantly had to have it. i could tell that it was honey, not vanilla, but it still had that warm comforting smell. i cant really pick up on the lemon (its not zesty or overpowering) but i think it helps make the overall smell refreshing and not heady. it does contain shimmer but it says on the box that it wont stain your clothing, and that you can simply shake off any glitter that got on your clothes. i would whole-heartedly recommend this perfume to anyone who is sick of the commercial vanilla smell but still likes that rich warm smell, or anyone who is looking for a great new perfume!
