I've been searching for a primer to control my very oily skin for months. I had been using Mac's Prep and Prime Protect SPF 50 until the formula changed. I sampled multiple oil-control primers from Sephora (Murad, Roth, Clinique, Korres) and some drugstore brands (Boots, Cetaphil) from Target over the course of a few months. I finally settled on the Hourglass and I love it. Interestingly, it has Titanium Dioxide and Zinc Oxide, two ingredients that, as I recall, were in the Mac Prep and Prime and removed and replaced by chemical sunscreens. Now I'm wondering if those sunscreen ingredients don't also have oil-control properties. None of the other primers I tried worked very well, and none of them had these two ingredients. The primer feels wonderful on my skin, although this is really of secondary importance to me as I care the most about oil control. It's more expensive than the Mac Prep & Prime, but I use less of it. I use this under a mineral foundation by Physician's Formula or under Sonia Kashuk's tinted moisturizer.

Foundations -Tarte - Amazonian Clay 12-hour Full-Coverage Foundation SPF 15

I've been on a search for a new primer/TM/foundation for combination skin (very oily t-zone, dry around chin) since MAC changed the formula of the Prep and Prime SPF 50 that I used with Sonia Kashuk's tinted moisturizer. I thought I'd try some different products because over the past few years I've started to get milia and thought maybe the MAC or the SK was responsible for this. I tried the Amazonian clay with multiple oil-control lotions and primers (Murad, Roth, Boots, Cetaphil) and also without primer. I could never get this foundation to look good. It settles into every pore and accentuates every flake. It looks good from a few feet, but close up it is a total mess. I give it two stars because the texture feels lovely and the color match was decent. I'm also trying the Amazonian Clay tinted moisturizer and so far I like this much better because it doesn't sink into my pores and doesn't emphasize flakiness. Verdict isn't in on the oil-control factor.

Primer/ Corrector -MAC - Prep + Prime Face Protect SPF 50

I used this product religiously for years and years. It's true that the container was bad for the original product. The primer was thick and at the end I'd have to cut off the top of the bottle to get to all the product. It was worth it though, and I'd store it in another container at that point. However, the new formula, which I'm assuming was meant to address the problem of the thick product in poorly designed container, is terrible. Not only does it NOT WORK, it runs/leaks out of the bottle, leading to a lot of waste of the product. The solution to the old problem was a better container, not a reformulation of the primer. The only "good" thing I can say about the new reformulation is that is helped me realize how much I loved the old formula! I want it back! EDIT: I had been using Mac's Prep and Prime Protect SPF 50 until the formula changed. I sampled multiple oil-control primers from Sephora (Murad, Roth, Clinique, Korres) and some drugstore brands (Boots, Cetaphil) from Target over the course of the past few months. I finally settled on Hourglass Veil Mineral and I love it.
