Styling Products -Unlisted Brand - Innersense Quiet Calm Curl Control

i've been wanting to try this for awhile, so when i ran out of jessicurl stuff, i gave this a try. i have wavy, sometimes curlier, thick hair with its own craziness. this product does not work alone for me. i need something else to work with it. even if i use it with innersense Inner Peace Whipped Creme Texturizer , it doesn't quite provide the curl definition i get from jessicurl. if my hair was longer than shoulder length and didn't need as much work, i would use this product. it would be great in the summer or warmer spring days for non-blow drying days, with longer hair. i only continue to use it now because it was quite pricey and i feel like i should use most of it up before getting new products.
if i could consider having a HG spring/summer fragrance, it would be this. i adore this scent! it is a strong gardenia on my body chemistry, so a little really goes a long way with the fragrance oil. i know it's supposed to be reminscent of hawaii and memories of vacations there, but for me gardenias are not hawaii, but it's still a gorgeous white floral fragrance. and i am and will always be a white floral girl...
Tinted Moisturizer -Physicians Formula - Organic Wear - Light to Natural

i wanted to like this TM, since it's supposedly organic, but my skin just did not like it at all. i was hoping it would at least even out my skintone some, but it didn't. and while i still consider myself an oily gal, i haven't been shiny too much... until i used this TM. within a few hours i am an oil slick, and there's something in it that made me breakout. glad i gave it a chance, but now i have to combat the blemishes it brought on.
before i got into using oils on my hair, i tried this treatment. it was an adjustment getting used to the smell of it at first. what i liked about it was the conditioning factor. after using (and washing out), i could tell my hair was less frizzy. and i typically would use it if i was showering later in the day, so that while i was cleaning the house or going to be outside running around and being gross, i would have my hair up laden with this stuff. but i have since discovered that coconut oil works better for my hair and is much much cheaper. so while i didn't love it, i didn't hate it either.
Lotions/ Creams -L'Occitane - 20% Shea Butter Hand Cream
ulihoku 4/3/2008 1:13:00 PM
while this hand cream isn't all natural, and can be greasy if you put too much on, i still love it. my hands always feel nicer after i've used it. some don't like the scent of the cream, but i wish it came in a room or linen spray, since it's very soothing for me. a little goes a long long way with this cream, and it's very hard to share since you know it's pricey. but that's how i show my friends i love them, i let them have a tiny dab of it when i apply it in front of them! :)
i've been using this conditioner with the shampoo off and on for a week now, and while it isn't anything super amazing, it does a good job of keeping my hair moisturized. also, it doesn't make my scalp itchy or feel like i have build-up on my hair. so while i prefer others, this affordable set will make a nice addition to my rotation as i wait for new shampoos & conditioners to arrive.
Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Glossing Cream with Olive Oil

this is one of the few non-natural products i will use on my hair, since most make my scalp itchy. and i only use this for 2 reasons. first, when i would straighten my hair, this cream was the BEST for making my hair look silky without weighing it down or looking greasy. second, when my frizzies are just a little too much to handle, a tiny dab of this here and there calm them down tremendously. i try to talk all my straight-haired friends into this product. LOVE IT LOVE IT LOVE IT.
i normally can use most leave-in conditioners, but this did not work for my wavy/curly layered hair. it was either too heavy or too concentrated, i'm not sure. the smell was ok, i wasn't put off by it. i only used droplets of it, and it still made my hair flat and blah. i suppose if i wasn't straightening my hair more, it would be helpful. but for wavy/curly days, it just wasn't good for me.
Shampoo -Alba Botanica - Plumeria Replenishing Hair Wash

love the smell. hoped for great results, but my hair & scalp did not like this hair wash. i bought it for a trip since i wasn't going to be using showers with soft water. and hard water does not do well with shampoo bars. but my hair didn't feel remotely clean after using this. could have been the hard water, but i still wasn't impressed. i now leave it in the guest bathroom for anyone else to try it.
Shampoo -John Masters - Zinc & Sage Shampoo with Conditioner
ulihoku 4/3/2008 12:47:00 PM
a couple of years ago my scalp started acting up and itching and flaking like crazy. i wanted to avoid harsher dandruff shampoos, so i tried this. i wanted to love it. but it made my hair a tangled mess. and it did nothing for my scalp. i tried it several times for several days in a row, but to no avail. this shampoo just did not work on my scalp issues or with my hair.
Styling Products -Jessicurl - Confident Coils Styling Solution

(same review for rockin ringlets) i don't love it enough to call this my HG for my thick wavy/curly hair, since it can't be used alone. i have to use rr with it to make it work and then my hair does look its best. but after all my sampling of other products, this one (along with rr) does what its supposed to do and i do keep coming back to it.

Conditioner -Jessicurl - Jessicurl - Too Shea Extra Moisturizing Conditioner

loved this heavier conditioner in the summer with my long wavy hair. especially in the island fantasy scent. amazing conditioning for hair that's been stressed out during the winter & spring with blow drying, and helps with air-drying in the summer. i wasn't a fan of the tub container though. i got a lot of water in it from the shower, and it was impossible to get the last bit of product out of the travel size bottle since it's so thick. however, definitely would use again in the summer with long hair.
Tinted Moisturizer -Kiss My Face - Tinted Moisturizer [DISCONTINUED]

i wanted to love this tm, but it just did not work for me. the first few days it was great - even skintone, hardly looked like i was wearing anything, and easy to apply. but after day 3 or 4, i started breaking out. grrr... it usually takes that amount of time for me to know if something will work on my skin. i almost loved this tm, until the breakouts. it might work for some, but it did not work for me.
Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Maxiglide iron

I have thick, naturally wavy, long, color-treated hair that has always been hard to straighten (i thank my grandmother's heritage for this!) Whenever I have used a blow-dryer and brush to attempt sleeker locks, my hair has never looked silky or really good, just poofy. I admit I love the body and texture my hair has when I am having a great wavy hair day, but with the humidity around here, it's not always a good hair day. By the end of my day, I often end up with partially straight, partially wavy hair, even after applying curling serums & lotions! But I have been blessed with a good head of hair, despite its lack of cooperation. anyway, back to straightening it. After treating my hair with ojon, and then letting it air dry, then applying a heat protective serum, I pulled out the maxiglide and was fairly amazed at the sleekness of my hair with the first swipe. I think I oohhed and ahhed way too many times in 15-20 minutes it took to get my whole head done. I have A LOT of hair so taking only that long was already a plus in my styling book. When I was finished I kept touching my hair, since I couldn't believe how good it looked. My DH isn't used to my hair being so straight, so he had no comment that night. However, a few friends loved it and were even more impressed that it only took 15 minutes! I decided not to wash my hair the next morning (since it didn't feel icky), but do some touch-up swipes before heading out the door. Again, it was going to be a good hair day! and finally I got a positive response from my DH. He said I looked sexy! Guess we're keeping the maxiglide! * a side note for why i can't give the maxiglide a 5 -- my hair was a little frizzier than normal the day after i washed the straightness away. but i couldn't tell if it was the weather or the result of having straightened it.
