Misc Beauty Tools -Urban Decay - the revolution eyelash curler

I have long, very straight lashes, and am constantly on the prowl for a miracle curler. I have had excellent luck with the She Uemura curler, but resent the fact that I could not buy refill pads, and consider that wasteful. So the tree hugger in me set out for a new solution. I found two major problems with this curler, one that is insurmountable: 1 - If you are very used to the traditional eyelash curler configuration, expect a slight learning curve with this one. I haven't pinched my lids in ages, but did so a few times with this. If you typically rest your hand gently on your cheek with regular curlers, you may find this one difficult, suspended in space. 2 - Here is the inexcusable problem for me: The construction. Several of the hinged joints were loose, causing poor alignment (and like at least one other person, I cut my outer lashes!). Soooo, even if the pad stayed on, you have the opportunity to clamp down in a crooked manner, and metal meets metal. I had to continuously press the pad back in, each use. Thinking I just had a lemon, I exchanged for another, and experienced the same poor build quality. If you are fortunate enough to purchase one that is 'tight,' perhaps it is worth the short learning curve to use it well. But please be cautious if it feels sloppy, or loose, as your lashes may suffer the same fate as mine (which have finally made a full recovery, thank you for asking ;).

Eyeliner -MAC - Pearlglide Eye Liner in Wolf

Greatest. Eyeliner. Ever. Extremely versatile color, with subtle copper undertones. Smoooooth, like all pearlglides. If you find it, snap it up, as like all great colors, it's a LE. Have seen it in the Cosmetics Company outlets in recent months.

Eyeliner -MAC - Pearlglide Liner in Fly-By-Blu

The Pearlglide liners are the absolute best pencils available. The texture is smooth, with just enough glimmer to blur the lines between glitter and pearl. I am an eye phobe, and can't deal with most pencils, as they are too hard, and drag on my lid. Not so with these - as soft as using the pot-type liners! Fly-by-Blu is a great blue, without being tacky, but vibrant enough to know you are wearing blue.

Cleansers -Josie Maran Cosmetics - Bear Naked Wipes

I am a big fan of facial wipes, relying on them for travel and quick makeup removal after a long day at work. I picked these up, looking for a cruelty free option - bonus that I love polar bears! They are pricey, but worked very well for me, as well or better than the box-store brands. I quite liked the scent, and they didn't leave my face feeling like I had to rinse with water. For the price, I would prefer the plastic closure packaging, like on the Boots products. If you don't use these several times a week, you really run the risk that they will dry out as you near the end of the package, even storing flap-side down.

Sunscreen -Alba Botanica - Green Tea Spf 30 Sunscreen

I went on a quest to find the perfect sunscreen, and had to keep looking after trying this one. High marks for the fact that it is cruelty free! That criteria eliminated tons of products immediately. I expected no problems, since this was a natural product, however, this was the first skin product I have tried that seemed to elicit an allergic reaction. I got little white bugbite-like bumps all over the areas that I applied the lotion, all itching like crazy. It never really settled in to my skin, and felt tacky all day. BUT, I did not burn where it was applied, so it did do its job. Just wanted to share my experience with the skin reaction.

Sunscreen -Ocean Potion - Anti-Aging Sunblock SPF 30

This is without a doubt, the best sunscreen I have found that fits all of my wants and needs. For me, cruelty free is a non-negotiable characteristic, so that eliminated a ton of the inexpensive, easily attained products. In addition to being cruelty free, it is made in the US, easy to find in local stores (KMart, for me), goes on and absorbs like a great body lotion, and prevented sunburn for a week in Arizona in June. I am extremely picky about the texture of lotions, not wanting to feel them on my skin any more than about five minutes following application. This smoothed in very nicely, with a pleasant smell, and I found it worked well on my face. I spent a long time trying to find the perfect sun protection, and am delighted that I found the Ocean Potion product line.
