Cleansers -Ponds - Deep Cleanser Cold Cream

This review is for this as an eye makeup remover. I don't know why I bought it originally, but it was just hanging out in my bathroom, and I figured I should use it for something. It does remove eye makeup well. I take a blob on my fingertips, rub it (gently) over my lids, and wipe off with a tissue. Everything comes off. The thing I hate about this, and why I won't use it anymore once it's gone, is because it leaves a cloudy film over your eyeballs that lasts a very long time. I really hate it. I have to keep blinking and I feel like I can't see for hours. I also hate the jar; it's not so much that it's a jar per se, but the shape of it. It would be easier to get out if it was shallower and straighter up and down. It does smell nice, rosy and nostalgic. I kinda wanted to like it because of that alone. :) I will try to use it up but I won't buy it again. There are much better eye makeup removers, specifically for that purpose.

Eyeliner -Maybelline - Master Drama by Eyestudio Cream Pencil in Sapphire Strength
rated 2 of 5
trillium13 6/8/2013 9:09:00 PM

I really wanted to give this a good review, because the color really is beautiful. Unfortunately, beyond that, I don't like this much. The formula is much too dry for me, it's not creamy and smooth at all. It tugs and skips when I put it on. It's hard to build the color because when you go over it more than once, it gets patchy. It comes off on my eyelash curler, even after plenty of time to set. Wear is just ok. It doesn't seem to wear off at my watery outer corners, like some liners do, but it does smudge a bit to my lower lashline, after only about 4 hours. I got it for 50% off at CVS, and I'm glad I didn't pay full price for it. My UD, Prestige, and Sephora liners are much better. I'll probably try to use it, because it really is a pretty sapphire blue, but I wouldn't buy it again, and wouldn't recommend it. The Prestige Total Intensity liners are in the same price range, even maybe a bit cheaper, and are much better liners. I generally like Maybelline, but sadly this was a dud.

Polishes -Essie - Lapis Of Luxury
rated 4 of 5
trillium13 5/6/2013 10:37:00 PM

This is a very pretty color, and unique in my large-ish stash. As pictured, it's a periwinkle cream. The cream finish is such that it's almost just slightly jelly-like to me. I'm not sure if it's my bottle, but mine goes on a bit streaky and require 3 coats to be opaque. It levels itself out pretty well, and it really is lovely. I took off a lipp for the brush-I sort of hate Essie brushes, they're too small. All in all it's very pretty and I don't really mind the extra coat.

Eyeliner -Prestige - Total Intensity Eyeliner-Powerful Purple 06
rated 2 of 5
trillium13 4/16/2013 10:33:00 PM

I really love this line of eyeliners, (especially the emerald!) but this particular one I do not like. All of the other colors live up to their names-bright greens, bright blues, teals, etc. I thought this would be a deep or bright purple, but it's really mostly black. It has a hint of plum to it, but not much. The formula on this one isn't as nice as the others either. It's still pretty soft and creamy but not as much. It does stay put pretty well. All in all this is just ok. If you want a black liner that leans purple, you might try this one-but if you're looking for a true purple or violet, this pencil is not.

Eyeliner -Palladio - Herbal Retractable Eye Liner-Ocean Blue
rated 2 of 5
trillium13 4/16/2013 9:55:00 PM

I really wanted to like this, because the color is really pretty, and because I've used other Palladio products I like. Sadly, this does not work well for me at all. This is supposed to be waterproof and smudgeproof, but when I put it on my upper lashline, it ends up on my lower lashline in minutes. It continues to migrate there all day. I have hooded lids, and it also transfers to the part of my eyelid that touches my lashline. NONE of any other liners I've tried have ever done this! It also doesn't go on very smoothly, it tugs a bit and is a little rough. The color is beautiful, a bright medium blue. I tried it a couple of times just because the color is so pretty, but alas, this is no good for me. If you have eyes that are dry and aren't hooded, this might work better for you, but this was a miss for me. :(

Misc Beauty Tools -Sephora - Sephora Collection Eyelash Curler
rated 3 of 5
trillium13 4/16/2013 9:47:00 PM

I like the curler itself, but it really irks me that they don't sell replacement pads for it. I have tried some other pads that do fit it, but they don't work as well, and it's also principle for me. I don't like the idea of having to buy a brand new curler when the pad is no longer useable. If you don't mind having to buy a new curler when the pad goes bad, the curler itself is decent. I have small eyes and it seems to fit them well. It does crimp if you don't make more than one clamp up the lashes, but I think all curlers do that. It also comes in pretty colors.

Treatments -Aura Cacia - Apricot Kernel Oil
rated 5 of 5
trillium13 4/11/2013 8:22:00 PM

This review is not for this specific brand, but apricot oil nonetheless. I had bought some to make homemade lip scrub with, which I did once. ;) While it did make a very nice scrub with brown sugar, I was too lazy to keep making it, so I had this oil sitting around. I use a different oil for makeup removal, so thought I would just try to use this up as a moisturizer. Turns out my skin seems to like it! I use just 2 drops for my whole face, and pat it in right after a shower at night. (it's just a bit too heavy for me to use during the day) It soaks right in and my face is super soft. It's not greasy at all. My skin is generally oily but this doesn't seem to make it worse, and it hasn't broken me out. I plan to keep using it since it feels nice and my skin seems happy with it. :)

Makeup Brushes -Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman - Stippling Brush
rated 4 of 5
trillium13 4/11/2013 1:54:00 PM

I like this brush so much I have 2 of them! The only thing I don't love is the huge fat base of the handle; it takes up a lot of room in my brush cups. Aside from that, this is a great brush. I mainly use it for cream blushes and highlighters, it's perfect! I also use it occasionally for my super pigmented Meow blushes, to avoid applying too much. I like that its a smaller size stipple brush, it's just right for applying blush or highlight. Great price too! These can often be found for buy one get one half off.

Polishes -China Glaze - It's a trap-eze
rated 4 of 5
trillium13 4/10/2013 9:47:00 PM

This is a pretty cool polish and is definitely unique in my collection. It is SUPER thickly loaded with glitter! This makes application a little difficult but not too bad. This is probably blasphemy but I would probably prefer it with just a little less glitter, only because I think the milky white base is so pretty with the glitter in it, and I wish I could see it more. But it's still super pretty, and I stop it at 2 coats. I use a sticky base (Orly), 2 coats of this, a coat of Gelous, and a coat of Poshe. I'm able to get 2 days of (very rough on my hands at work) wear out of it with only very tiny chips. The color of this is such that tiny chips aren't even noticeable. For me and glitter this is pretty good wear, as heavily glittered polishes tend to flake off on me. This polish is super pretty, and really happy and fun, and I get a lot of compliments on it.

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Studio Complexion Brush
rated 5 of 5
trillium13 4/10/2013 9:39:00 PM

I realized today while washing my brushes that I reach for this brush ALL the time. I don't think of it in my mind as something super special, but I guess it kind of is! I use it for a few different things; mostly for all over powder application, but it's also good for bronzer or applying shimmery powder over your collarbones. This isn't a super dense brush but it's not flimsy either, so it's good for applying powder lightly. The flattened shape allows you to apply powder easily to all the contours of your face. I really get a lot of use out of it, and you can NOT beat the price!

I really wanted this to work for me to thicken up my super sparse brows. Alas, it did nothing. I also find the scent really awful.

Eye Primer -Milani - Eye Primer
rated 5 of 5
trillium13 4/9/2013 10:30:00 PM

This stuff is great! My biggest problem with shadows has always been creasing, as my eyes are sort of oily and they're hooded. I wore my shadows for 12 hours today and NO creasing with this. Up until now I've been using UDPP, and so far I feel like this is just as good! It's a little different texture than UDPP, it's slightly thinner and has a less dry texture. It goes on easily, and shadows apply and blend easily over it. I haven't tried it with really colorful shadows yet, so I can't really speak to whether it brightens them up or not-but on my neutral shadows it works great! If anything changes I'll be sure to update my review. You absolutely cannot beat this for the price! Under $7 at Walgreens. After using this, I may not even repurchase my UDPP when it runs out, it's that good.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational Vivids - Vivid Mandarin
rated 5 of 5
trillium13 4/6/2013 9:08:00 PM

LOVE this color! I am very pale, mostly neutral but leaning cool, and I think this looks good on me. This color is definitely orange but it leans very red or even slightly pinkish. (if you want something straight-up orange, try electric orange, it leans much more yellow) I think that most skin tones could probably pull this off. As the name suggests, it is super bright. It applies like a dream. It's super creamy but it doesn't have so much slip that it slides off. It wears pretty comfortably, I don't think it's drying, but I wouldn't say it was moisturizing. It doesn't sink into lines or show up any dry areas. I applied it straight from the tube, no liner or brush, and it was perfect. I wore it for a couple of hours today, and when I got home I decided to just blot off what was left, and it left a really pretty stain behind. It wasn't patchy at all and looked very smooth. If you're not into the full-on brightness you could definitely wear this as a stain. You can't beat the price for such an awesome lipstick. This is beautiful, check it out!

Primer/ Corrector -Philosophy - The Present Clear Makeup
rated 5 of 5
trillium13 3/31/2013 3:02:00 PM

I've used this off and on for quite a few years, and I'm a fan. For me, it works best when I'm not wearing a lot of other makeup. It works as sort of a combo moisturizer-primer; I wear it over sunscreen. I use it on days that I only wear concealer and powder or a tinted moisturizer. I find it a little heavy to wear under regular foundation or BB cream. It applies easily and feels lovely. It makes my skin look very smooth and velvety and it makes a great base. You absolutely have to let it set for at least the 2 minutes it recommends. It has a very light, pleasant scent. It's slightly rosy or floral and I like it a lot. It doesn't linger. I do wish the opening of the tube was a tiny bit smaller because I think it's easy to dispense too much. I've bought it more than once already so yes, I'd definitely repurchase. You only need a little so it lasts forever.

Tools -Sephora - Glass Nail File
rated 5 of 5
trillium13 3/13/2013 10:01:00 AM

I found my first glass file on clearance at Sephora, and liked it so much I bought a full price one. This newer one is actually better as it's double sided. Since I started using glass I've had much less peeling. It's also a gentler file and a more efficient one. With some cheap glass files the "grit" will actually wear off, leaving you with useless smooth glass. This one seems to NOT be like this, I think it will last forever! I have another glass file, a Swissco, and I think they are comparable, but this is nicer with 2 sides. The case is a nice bonus too, as well as the fact that it comes in pretty colors. ;) Definitely recommend!
