Lipstick -L'Oreal - Colour Juice Stick in Pink Lemonade [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
tobytails 3/30/2006 10:52:00 PM

I usually wear lipgloss, but sometimes I get tired of the stickiness that comes with it. After I read reviews on L'Oreal's Colour Juice Sticks, I decided to give this lipstick a try. I wanted something sheer, moisturizing, and lightweight. These CJ sticks deliever. Pink Lemonade is a very pretty light pink shade (with some fine sparkle). The color compliments my neutral light skintone and doesn't look goulish on my medium pink pigmented lips. Pink Lemonade gives me a fresh natural look. The scent is divine like a starbust, the color is sheer, the tube is 'upscale'and the lipstick is moisturizing. The only this is, the color don't last. After the color disappears, my lips feel kind of dry. However, I found that putting clear lipgloss (i.e. C.O Bigelow mentha lip shine) on top helps prolong the disappearing act. As for the price? The color juice sticks run upwards to a crazy $7.00 or so. But the good thing about drugstores is there are often BOGO sales and coupons. All in all, this the lip product that I am reaching for right now! (LLL/neutral skin tone/medium brown hair/medium pinktone lips/green eyes]

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass in Budding
rated 4 of 5
tobytails 3/1/2006 5:10:00 PM

MAC's Budding in the tube is a scary fushia color. But applied to my medium pink lips this is a translucent bright medium pink with sparkle. Budding may be the bright lip color that is most sutible for me, as it compliments my skin and lip tone. Budding can be turned into a rosey-pink lip when paired with MAC's Fresh Buzz lip stick, or can be toned down when paired with a lipcolor like Prrr. The application is simple..instead of a sponge, this lustreglass has a brush and the scent is like a pleasant MAC vanilla. If you like stickiness, this lusterglass is for you. The staying power is the same as most of MAC's other lipglosses. All in all, a nice bright, yet subtle medium pink lip color. [LLL/neutral/medium pink lips/green eyes/medium brown hair]

Lipstick -MAC - Fresh Buzz
rated 3 of 5
tobytails 3/1/2006 4:59:00 PM

MAC's Fresh Buzz, from Culturebloom '06, in the tube is a very unique soft nude pink with gold mixed in. Fresh Buzz when applied alone on my bare medium pink lips makes me look like frosty fresh road kill. When applied over/under clear gloss Fresh Buzz is a nude look..somebody elses nude. On me, when applied with only clear gloss this color sort of washes me out. However, the reason I'm not returning this is because what it becomes when paired with a more intense pink gloss, such as MAC's Budding. Together Fresh Buzz and Budding give me a pouty rosey-pink lip look that compliments my lip and skin tone. Fresh Buzz, to me, is a versitile/high maintenence lip color. I just can't swipe on my lips and go like most of my other lip colors, but I can play around with different looks. I would buy a lip stick color like Fresh Buzz again, but it will have to be a darker pink with no frost. [LLL/neutral/medium pink lips/green eyes/medium brown hair]

Eyeliner -MAC - Violet Underground kohl
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 3/1/2006 4:43:00 PM

I don't typically wear color eyeliner. But I've been wanting to try a violet or purple liner for a while in hopes to intensify my green eyes. I wasn't intending to buy Violet Underground during my Culturebloom haul, however, the MA was a hot boy. I don't really care if he does or doesn't for play for the same team, but he was great looking and really hands-on. So while I was looking more closely at Iris Print eyeshadow and this eye kohl, he suggested (while appling the product) that I use Violet Underground eye kohl under Iris Print and blend it to get a really pretty and intense look. The kohl itself is creamy and glides easily across my lid. It can and will smudge if you have super oily lids, so make sure you wear a primer, like UD's PP. The color is a dark violet. It can either be worn to look bright, or toned down/darkened over a thin line of black eyeliner. All in all this a very pretty violet eyeliner that stays true to color throughout the day..thanks hottie MA! [LLL/neutral/green eyes/medium brown hair]

Eye Shadow -MAC - Lovebud
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 3/1/2006 4:25:00 PM

When I brought this shadow home I was a bit mad at myself for getting a shade that was exactly the same a UD's X. However, on my light skin Love Bud is a true peach with a little bit of luster, where as X is more of a pinky-peachy-golden color. Love Bud comes from MAC's Culturebloom collection that was launched in Feb 'O6 and is by far my top 5 favorite shadow from Mac, and possibly my whole stash. The color is light, so you may have to work with it if you like vivid and intense eyes. But for me it's a great everyday look, especially paired with purple or green lids and this in the crease. Just like all of my MAC shadows and UD primer potion the color lasts all day. All and all, a wonderful no-fuss light peach for the springtime and all year long! Eye Shadow -MAC - Iris Print
rated 4 of 5
tobytails 3/1/2006 4:13:00 PM

I agree with the general consensus that Iris Print is a very pretty shade in the pot, but has no color payoff. To me Iris Print is lavender with gold glitter. A unique shade that I had to get my hands on. On my light skin, the color just seems to disappear. However, I'm most happy with the results that I get with this when I apply (or at times pack on) Iris Print over a darker shadow or Violet Underground eye kohl in order to get the full impact and girly-ness of this shadow. Thankfully, the glitter, or fine shimmer that is in Iris Print doesn't scream "I'm trying to be 13 years old again!", nor does it fall all over my face. When all is said and done, Iris Print is still a very lovely shade for the spring time, and with the right combinations of shadows and liners works well with my skin tone and helps bring out my green eyes. Foundations -Urban Decay - Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 2/1/2006 8:05:00 PM

I believe this is it...my Holy Grail foundation! I've always wanted to try Urban Decay's liquid foundation for a while, but just couldn't or wouldn't bring myself to purchase it based on both reviews and ingredients. But after looking on Urban Decay's website, I saw this product. I never tried mineral makeup, however I have become so distraught with the recent onslaught of silicone-based foundations out there I decided to give this a whirl. I purchased this in the Illusion shade (the lightest shade), which is for fair skin. The product comes in a little jar with a sponge applicator as well as the option to screw off the applicator for brush usage. The jar and amount of product comes in at a whopping .30 oz for $28.00 usd. But a little bit goes a long way. I simply shake the jar and start buffing the minerals onto my skin. The application is so simple and not messy at all. After I apply, I use a blending brush to give that matte 'airbrushed' look. The shade Illusion is just the right shade for my light complexion with neutral undertones. Best of all?...I don't have to blot as often as I have with liquid foundations. My skin looks flawless (no oxidizing) and the breakouts I have been experiencing lately are going away. I am very pleased with Surreal Skin Mineral Makeup and will be repurchasing! Blush -MAC - Summer Lily
rated 4 of 5
tobytails 1/28/2006 2:53:00 PM

Summer Lily Blushcreme,to me, is more of a mauve with a pinch of coral in it. I was hoping after reading the reviews below, that Summer Lily would be more of a springtime coral/pinky fresh look. On my light complexion, Summer Lily is a medium pink/coral with no shimmer. It does give a nice flushed look and it does look fresh, while being not too dark and not too flamboyant on my light and neutral skin tone. This is my first blushcreme, and so far I am impressed about the staying power on my oily cheeks. I pat and blend the blushcreme on the apples of my cheeks and start blending up, and this gives a more sheer look. A little does go a long way, and I will be using this all spring into all of summer. Lipstick -MAC - Strawberry Blonde
rated 4 of 5
tobytails 1/28/2006 2:34:00 PM

Strawberry Blonde Lustre lipstick is a scary coral-pink in the tube. My mother used to wear a color like this when I was a little girl, which was in the eighties. Hence, I was a bit hesitant about purchasing this. I am trying to get away from my usual lip colors and go for something more bright, and of course I can always return it if it scares me too much. But I don't think that will be happening. Strawberry Blonde is a very pretty, yet bright pink with a touch of coral against my light and neutral complexion. On my medium pink lips the coral isn't *BAM*, but a nice subtle mix with the pink. I have to be careful about which eye and cheek look I wear with this. What I have found that works the most is a nice purple or green lid and pinky-peach crease and a very light pink blush. All in all I believe this will make a pretty daytime spring look! Lip Gloss -MAC - Catherine Deneuve -- Dusk
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 1/28/2006 2:26:00 PM

Oh how beautiful! Dusk lipglass is a color that I use most often, since it compliments my skintone and liptone. In the tube, Dusk is a pearly cool pinky-mauve. On my medium pink lips, Dusk is a nice pink/mauve that has some shimmer. I think Dusk is very similar to MAC's other LE color, Damzel. However, Damzel is a medium pink/mauve without pearl. Like all make lipglasses, the consistancy is thick, but not overly sticky and has a pleasant vanilla scent. Dusk is great for a simple lip look! Eye Shadow -Pout - Miss Tahiti
rated 4 of 5
tobytails 1/6/2006 4:49:00 PM

Victoria's Secret had Pout's Love Pout gift box on clearance for $14.00. The box included Miss Tahiti, Black Mascara, and a lipgloss. Three products in a cute gift box = great deal. This is my first foray into Pout Cosmetics and I'm impressed thus far. The packaging is totally girly (light blue compact with pink bow] Miss Tahiti is a duo eyeshadow containing a hard to describe brown, and pink. I am normally put off from browns since they look so drab on me. But this shade has a mix of purple, well in the light it looks like a dirty purple. So..it all depends on how one looks at it..lol. On my light complexion the colors are a nice natural look. I used the darker shade on my lid and the pretty medium pink blended over and into my crease. The colors don't really contain any shimmer or sheen or glitter, but they do give a nice daytime work appropriate look. The performace of the shadows are good, and since I always use UD's primer potion, fading isn't really a problem for me. All in all, I'm rather impressed with Pout's eyeshadows and I will repurchase from this line. [LLL/neutral/mediumbrownhair/greeneyes]

Palettes -Too Faced - The Quickie Chronicles - The Temptress
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 1/6/2006 4:27:00 PM

From the back of the palette: "The 'Temptress' had been around the block for a few times and didn't care how many hearts she broke along the way. Sexy, smokey eyes, pink cheeks, and chocolate cherry lips were her uniform. Men wanted her, and women wanted to be her." Too Faced's The Temptress 'mini' Quickie Chonicles may not give me a Temptress persona, but I do feel rather special when I reach for it in my make up bag. Of course, I am a sucker for cute packaging and the Pin Up girl theme of these Palettes drew me in. My review is for the 'mini' palette which is the size of a credit card. This 'Passionate Plum Palette' contains 2 lip glosses, 2 eyeshadows, and a blush...and I like them all. The 2 eyeshadows are a sparkly dark purple/violet and a sparkly vanilla-beige base. This purple is so similar to other purples in my collection, especially Stila's Feirce Femme Plum palette (which I used up *gasps*) Today I used the vanilla shade as a base, followed by the purple shade on my lid, and Milani's Peachy-Peach in my crease. Topped off with 2 coats of L'Oreal's Volumious and Max Factor's Lash Perfection mascara and a thin line of Mac's Blitz and Glitz fluidline gives me a seductive eye look. The blush is a nice sheer shimmery baby pink blush. Since my eyes are done dark, the blush complimented my look perfectly. Finally the 2 lipglosses-a mauvy pink and lighter pink are moisturizing and decent wearing (how many lipglosses from palettes are?) and compliment my medium pink toned lips. The performace of each product is good. I always use UD's Primer Potion on my oily lids so eyeshadow fadeage(?) isn't a big problem for me. The shimmer in the eyeshadows and blush isn't too much for daytime, but rather each gives a nice luminous look. The only con with this palette is that it is lacking a mirror. All in all, I doubt this Palette will turn me into "The Temptress", nor will it make men chase me down the street (in a good way ;)), but it does make me feel good about myself and that's what counts! Blush -L'Oreal - Blush Delice - Front-Page Peach
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 1/6/2006 3:57:00 PM

There aren't many products out there that I have bought that make me feel and look pretty. L'Oreal's Front-Page Peach Blush Delice is one of those few products. Front-Page Peach comes from L'Oreal's Photo...whatever collection. It it expensive for a drugstore blush ringing in at around $9.00, but it is 2x's the size of regular Blush Delices and will last me for a number of years, I expect! The color inside this limited edition case looks like a basic peach color. But once swiped on my light complexion, I have a truly natural glow of peach with a hint of pink. Whereas Milani's Luminous gives a natural glow of pink with peach mixed with gold on my skin. Just like other Blush Delices, don't expect highly pigmeneted color, as this is a 'sheer powder blush'. The wearablility of this product is nice. The color lasts on my oily skin basically all day and it blends effortlessly onto my cheeks. All in all, Front-Page Peach is a winner. And yes L'Oreal, this product makes me feel "worth it." [medium brown hair/light/neutral/greeneyes]

Eye Shadow -Urban Decay - HOTPANTS Eyeshadow
rated 5 of 5
tobytails 12/14/2005 8:46:00 PM

When I think of hotpants, I get scared. Too many women down in my neck of the southern woods love their hotpants and it's pretty obvious that their hotpants don't love them back. When I first saw Urban Decay's hotpants, I again got scared. Hotpants, the eyeshadow, is very pink. The kind of pink that looks like Barbie's lipcolor. But looks can often be decieving, I swiped this color on the back of my hand at Ulta and was wowed by how nice of a color it is. On my skin, hotpants is an unassuming pink frost. Almost like a highlighter. Very nice and complimentary with other colors in my makeup arsenal. I'm suprised on how wearable this color is. Hotpants also doesn't contain glitter, and stays all day with the help of UD's PP. Now I only wish the real life hotpants can work for the ladies who love 'em. Retails for 15.00 and will last a looooonngg time.[LLL/neutral/greeneyes/dark brown hair]
