Liquid -Maybelline - Pure Makeup [DISCONTINUED]

I was excited to try this because it's inexpensive and it said it was 50% water. This is so greasy it's gross. It's very light coverage, like everyone has said... more like a tinted moisturizer. I have combination skin, and when I put it on, I had to immediately blot with papers afterward. It's the greasiest foundation I've ever tried. I had to continue to constantly blot every 15 minutes until I was so frustrated, I washed it off. Went straight into the trash.

Styling Products -Ouidad - Climate Control Gel

Nothing can beat the performance of this product for my naturally curly hair. I first use Balancing Rinse as a leave-in, and follow with this. It does have a wet or crunchy look when it first dries, but you're going to get this with almost any curl enhancing product. I just run my hands over it in the ponytail method, and I get the best soft bouncy spiral curls I've ever been able to achieve with any other products... and I'm a product junkie.

Cleansers -Desert Essence - Thoroughly Clean Face Wash with Organic Tea Tree Oil and Awapuhi
rated 4 of 5
tmccray2 4/7/2006 5:39:00 PM

This does what is says, thoroughly cleans your face. My skin is combination, it's very oily, but also flaky. It clears out all of the oil, but does not make my skin dry or flaky. In fact, when I wake up in the morning, there is less oil on my skin than ususal. I have been using Cetaphil, but because I'm not working, I wash my face in the morning and don't jump in the shower until the afternoon. With Cetaphil, my face has been feeling really greasy during the day until I take a shower. Desert Essence gets it squeaky clean. Beware of one thing, don't use it in your eyes, it burns. So it's really not a universal cleanser, because you can't take off eye makeup with it. Otherwise, it's a great cleanser for oily skin, that doesn't make my skin flaky and dry.

Powder -Cover Girl - Tru Blend Powder foundation [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
tmccray2 12/22/2005 11:46:00 PM

I love this new powder foundation. I used Fresh Complexion Pocket Powder, but the lightest shade was too dark for me. So I could only use it for a short period of time during the summer, or it would be way too dark. Tru Blend Powder is completely the opposite. It's way too light for me. I used the exact same shade, Ivory, this powder is a good 3-4 shades lighter than the same color in Fresh Complexion. I looked like a ghost when I put it on, almost like I had put on white makeup. I am very fair, even baby powder isn't too light for me. It's very similar in texture, wear, coverage and blendability to the Fresh Complexion. Now if I can only figure out which color will work for me. You cannot tell by looking at the powder, the color does not reflect what it looks like when applied to your skin.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara Waterproof
rated 3 of 5
tmccray2 11/5/2005 4:55:00 PM

I needed to cut down on makeup costs, so I bought this remembering that I had used it before and liked it. The store must have been out of Full and Soft, the regular one, because there was only the grey tube color. I didn't realize I had purchased the waterproof formula. I thought, oh well, even better, it would probably last longer. It lasts alright, I have difficulty getting it off with makeup remover. But it smudges like crazy, even after a few minutes. It doesn't clump too much. It provides nice volume, and soft lashes. But I just can't take the racoon eyes.

Polishes -Ulta - Nail Polish
rated 3 of 5
tmccray2 10/11/2005 10:35:00 PM

I feel mixed about this one. There are beautiful colors. The polish stayed on forever, no chipping or peeling. But, I don't use a base coat or top coast because I'm too lazy. This stuff ate away at my nails! I was shocked, I've never had a polish do this. My nails has turned white and shingly, like layers were peeling off. I had to try and file all of the white stuff off. But if I took all of it off, I would have filed all the way through to my skin! I'm so embarrased now. My nails look awful. I tried to put on polish, but it bubbles because of the rough texture. Ick! This polish is scary.

Mascara -Maybelline - Unstoppable Mascara [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
tmccray2 10/11/2005 10:27:00 PM

This stuff is awful. Maybe one of the worst mascaras I've ever tried! It doesn't lenthen, it doesn't thicken... it made my lashes look worse than with no mascara at all. I got short, spikey lashes that all clumped together. I couldn't even get them apart with my Tweezerman metal comb. However, if you don't have many lashes, so they won't clump together and you want to look like you don't have mascara on, and you want something that will last all day without smudging or flaking, this one's for you. But not for me.

Liquid -Cover Girl - Outlast All Day Liquid Make-up (foundation+primer) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 5 of 5
tmccray2 2/24/2005 5:10:00 PM

I was walking through Wal-Mart and saw this new makeup on an endcap, and decided to give it a try. Boy am I glad I did. This foundation is incredible. It's packaged together with a primer/sunscreen. It looks very natural, has buildable coverage, and doesn't highlight dry flakes. I have very oily skin, and haven't found anything that controls the oil, and this is no exception. For a long lasting foundation, this is the best I've ever tried. It's better than Revlon Colorstay Natural. Plus, Revlon's colors are so bizarre, they never match my skin. The Ivory in Outlast matches me perfectly. I was looking for something as natural as my MAC Select Tint, but had more coverage for bad skin days. This fits the bill perfectly. If after I use this for a while, it doesn't break me out, it will certainly be my holy grail.

Treatments (Eye) -DDF - Nourishing Eye Cream
rated 2 of 5
tmccray2 1/30/2005 4:26:00 PM

This burned my skin... and I don't have sensitive skin. My eyelids were burning, red and peeling. Otherwise it was okay. The second ingredient, after water, is isopropyl palmitate. Maybe this is a derivative of isopropyl alcohol. I've never had a chemical burn before, so I don't know which ingredient caused it.

Foundations -L'Oreal - Visible Lift Line Minimizing Makeup
rated 5 of 5
tmccray2 1/29/2005 10:09:00 PM

Why, oh why did I stray from this foundation? I used it for years when I was young, but started buying department store brands when I had more money, thinking they would be better; I was wrong. I saw an end cap display of Visible Lift, and I remembered how much I liked it. I have at least 40 different foundations right now, and none of them compare. This gives naturally looking coverage, but still covers my broken capillaries, without having to use concealer. It has buildable coverage, and I only need a very small amount for my entire face. I have very oily skin, and have found that matte foundations highlight every single little flake on my skin that I didn't even know I had. This doesn't hold back the oilies, my it doesn't make it worse like some made specifically for oily skin (like Lancome Adaptive). I find it stays on all day, but I use blot papers, and I'm not an athlete, so it doesn't sweat off of me. For those hot summer days, I use Revlon Color Stay Natural, which looks almost as good, but I pratically have to scrub my skin raw to get it off. I'm finally ending my quest for a better foundation... what a waste of time and money it was.

Shampoo -Paul Mitchell - Super Skinny Daily Shampoo
rated 3 of 5
tmccray2 1/24/2005 8:52:00 PM

I bought both the shampoo and cond during a liter sale. Big mistake. My hair ended up crispy critters. I liked it on the first day, it didn't have that seaweed feel in the rinse cycle, but it did comb very easily. My natural curls were enhanced as well. By the 3rd day my hair was dryer than it's been since I had a perm and color at the same time in the 80's. Because it doesn't contain SLS, I thought it would be okay. But alas, something else in there sucks all of the moisture right out of my hair.

Mascara -Rimmel - Volum' Eyes
rated 2 of 5
tmccray2 1/24/2005 8:41:00 PM

This stuff is horrible. Even with wiping the comb my lashes were big globs. I had to use my Tweezerman lash comb over and over to separate the lashes and get off the excess. In the end, my lashes were not evenly coated, stuck out in every direction and my eyelids were covered with mascara. The only good elements are that it didn't smudge or flake. However, there are many much better mascaras that provide dramatic results, don't smudge or flake. This went right in the trash.

Styling Products -L'Oreal - Nature's Therapy Perfect Curls Defining Creme
rated 4 of 5
tmccray2 8/20/2004 4:12:00 PM

I liked this for soft curls. I have wavy/curly hair and I need something that gives more curl enhancement and definition. It wasn't crunchy or sticky. There are a lot more products that are better for curl enhancement, and most are less expensive too. This may appear inexpensive, but it's only 4 ounces.

Treatments -Serious Skin Care - Inst-A-Tox serum
rated 1 of 5
tmccray2 8/18/2004 4:22:00 PM

I tried this on the fine lines around my eyes, and the deeper lines on my neck...nada. Didn't do a thing. Maybe you have to be covered in deep wrinkles to see any difference... like the demos on HSN.
