Styling Products -L'Oreal - Eversleek Finishing Creme

One of the worst hair products I've ever used. I followed the directions on the package and it did nothing good for my hair, only added a sticky residue. Also, it smells like Elmer's glue, which is interesting because it felt like I was putting glue in my hair.

This made my hair very sticky and really didn't add volume at all. Maybe I got a bad batch.

Conditioner -L'Oreal - EverSleek Reparative Smoothing Conditioner

Been using this for the last 3 weeks. I had been (quite desperately) searching for a replacement after Avalon Organics badly reformulated their Lavender Nourishing conditioner when I stumbled upon this product. I am VERY picky when it comes to conditioners but I must say this is one of the best I've ever used. While I'm uncomfortable about the fact that there are a lot of chemical-sounding ingredients in this stuff, it at least lacks parabens and 'cones, and it works tremendously well on my dry, color-treated, fine but thick hair. This product helps with frizz/flyaways, moisturizes well, and leaves a nice slip in the hair. It is also easy to work with as it soaks into the hair nicely and is just the right consistency (not to thick, not too runny).

Impressive! I feel like I'm conditioning my hair while cleansing at the same time, and there's no noticeable residue left from it. And more importantly, no SLS or 'cones! Used with the Eversleek Reparative conditioner, I have tons of slip/shine.

Deodorants -Tom's of Maine - Natural Long Lasting Deodorant in Wild Lavender
rated 1 of 5

This basically doesn't work. I saved it for use in the winter, and even then, it failed me. However, for some reason, I found that Tom's deodorant in the Apricot scent actually did function as a deodorant, so I recommend giving that a try instead of the lavender.

I'm sad that this didn't work out for me. I liked the coverage, but it broke me out. Plus, it was a bit too orangey-looking on my pale skin, despite being their lightest color.

Cleansers -C.O. Bigelow - Vitamin Boost Gel Cleanser - Normal to Oily Skin (No. 1671)
rated 5 of 5

I'm surprised at how well this works. I abandoned a lot of "natural/organic" cleansers because they seemed like they were making me break out, and Cetaphil was too drying (plus it contains parabens...yuck!). I tried this after a friend recommended the brand, and it seems to be clearing up my light/moderate acne. Doesn't do much to control oil, but it's better than making my skin dry and flakey, and since it isn't breaking me out I can't complain! Also, this stuff removes makeup very well (I use Revlon Colorstay in the Combination/oily variety) and other impurities as well judging by my the appearance of my pores. So far I've been using this three or four days, I will update after I've been using it longer. But so far, it seems like a miracle!

Conditioner -Garnier - Pure-Clean
rated 2 of 5

I'm normally someone who only buys brands like Nature's Gate and Avalon Organics, but since this is somewhat "green"/paraben and 'cone free and was REALLY cheap I decided to give it a try. Initially, I LOVED the softness it added to my hair, but over time it gave me a strange buildup and made my hair really dull and dry. On the bright side, it adds an amazing amount of volume and beautiful texture to my fine, straight hair, even after getting that buildup. But I've discontinued it because I'm afraid of it doing some serious long-term damage in terms of dullness/drying.

Conditioner -Jason Natural Cosmetics - Natural Apricot Conditioner - Super Shine
rated 3 of 5

Very picky about my conditioners. I must say, this stuff is impressive. It gives a nice slip and definitely a lot of shine. Unfortunately, however, while making my hair really soft, shiny, and remarkably frizz-free, it REALLY weighted down my fine hair for some reason, despite not leaving much residue and generally rinsing clean. Unfortunately, the stuff contains 'cones, and left quite a buildup (difficult to wash out) on my hair after using it for a month or so.

Conditioner -Nature's Gate - Herbal Daily Conditioning
rated 1 of 5
thyniki 7/6/2012 2:36:00 AM

Sorry to say but this conditioner was awful. It was so runny and difficult to work with, for one. I literally applied handfuls of it to my fine, long (mid-back at the time) hair and it had virtually no conditioning effect. My hair was a dull, tangled (and slightly sticky) mess upon leaving the shower. Plus, honestly, it reminds me of the opaque variety of liquid soap found in public restrooms (in terms of smell and consistency)...not exactly ideal for a conditioner.

Conditioner -Nature's Gate - Henna shine enhancing conditioner

This is one of the best conditioners I've ever used, and I am VERY picky with my conditioners. It does unfortunately leave a considerable amount of residue around the roots which is unwelcome during warm/humid months, but this seems to wash away easily when shampooing (as opposed to building up over time). I used this for a few years, but stopped when I suspected it was giving my hair an unwanted reddish tint. I'm not sure that the conditioner was the culprit, however, because prior to being brunette/black haired, I was dying my hair red for over 2 years. The problem seemed to go away after discontinuing this, but it may have just coincided with a lot of the underlying red pigment washing out. This product worked so well for me, however, that I may give it another try just to know for sure whether it was making it reddish.

Deodorants -Tom's of Maine - Long-Lasting Natural Deodorant (with hops) in Apricot Scent
rated 4 of 5
thyniki 7/6/2012 2:07:00 AM

This is the best aluminum-free deodorant I've used so far. For some reason, I've found that the apricot variety works far better than the lavender variety (which really didn't work for me at all). This one actually seems to last, and does have the drying effect that is necessary to keep odor under control, unlike the lavender scent variety and the deodorant made by Nature's Gate. However, it isn't something I'd trust when attending important functions, so I recommend keeping a spare conventional stick around in case you want to try this product.

So sad! This was an amazing conditioner but they reformulated it and it doesn't work anymore! Very very unfortunate.

Skincare - Body -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Lavender Hand & body Lotion
rated 5 of 5
thyniki 3/26/2012 5:48:00 AM

Love this stuff. It smells amazing and is the perfect consistency-not too thin, not too thick, not greasy. Leaves skin soft. Love the natural ingredients (no parabens!) and convenient pump. It may be a little expensive if you buy the smaller container, but some retailers sell it in large 32 oz. bottles for a very fair price.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
rated 4 of 5
thyniki 3/26/2012 5:40:00 AM

I loved this stuff until I realized it contains parabens. Unfortunately I won't be buying again, but only for that reason. I usually left the mask on until most of it dried (somewhere between 30-60 minutes). It came off easily, and seemed to suck out all of the impurities in my pores, while tightening them and reducing the size and duration of zits. All of this without drying my skin, even in the winter! Not bad! If they stop using the parabens (like some manufacturers are), I'll buy again in a heartbeat. On a side note, I found that it clogged my sink. To remedy this, I first removed as much as I could using a damp paper towel, then proceeded with a damp washcloth before rinsing with cool water.
