Conditioner -Pantene - Repair and Protect conditioner
rated 1 of 5
thesavagefamily 4/8/2013 3:26:00 PM

I picked this up since I had a coupon, but wished I would have saved my money. I have naturally curly, but permanently straightened hair. My hair is on the dry end, but not super dry and no damage. I thought any repair from blow drying and straightening 2x a week would be great. I used the shampoo and conditioner 3x and each time was left with dry, brittle hair. Maybe it has protein and not enough moisture which would explain the dryness. I could hardly comb the conditioner through my hair and even though my hair was soft while it was drying, it immediately looked very dry when it was styled. I am passing this along to my niece and hopefully she will have better luck.

Loose Powders -NARS - Light Reflecting Setting Powder
rated 5 of 5
thesavagefamily 2/25/2013 6:08:00 PM

I wasn't sure what this powder would do for my skin, as I normally do not use powder. I was curious to try with my combo skin. I applied it over my foundation and had a smooth, pore less finish. No white cast, no powdery look, just perfect. I apply it in the morning and maybe again before going out and the powder does not build up on your skin. Very natural. If you are looking for a finished look, give this a try!

Lips -Yves Saint Laurent - Rouge Pur Couture Glossy Stain (All Shades)
rated 5 of 5

Love, love, love these! I have about 12 of them and will continue to purchase new colors. I love how these can be layered over each other, or layered on their own for depth of color. They can also be sheered out for just a wash of color. I am also lazy about reapplying, so they work perfectly for me. The gloss look remains on my lips almost all day and they don't feel sticky. I also like that I do not have to use a liner and they stay put inside my lips--no feathering. The colors range from a light beige to darker berries and reds, so there is something for everyone. Some people find these drying on their lips if they wear them for several days in a row--I do not find them drying, but I do use a lip moisturizer every night. If you want a long wear lip color without that dry look, give these a try.

Lip Gloss -NYX - Xtreme lip cream
rated 5 of 5
thesavagefamily 2/14/2013 1:31:00 PM

I purchased this in XLC05, Bonfire, and LOVE it. It is the perfect berry shade for me as an NC20/25. The formula is very pigmented and I had to be careful applying. The applicator is wonderful though, so it spread easily on my lips. The color has worn through a meal and drinks for half the day, so I am impressed. It is not drying nor does it settle in fine lines or travel off my lips. I will buy more colors as I love the pigment rich gloss. It is not super shiny, so if you are looking for a true lip cream, this is for you!

Lip Gloss -NYX - Butter Gloss
rated 5 of 5
thesavagefamily 2/14/2013 1:29:00 PM

I bought this on a whim in Peaches and Cream BLG03 and love the color. I was looking for a natural peach pink color that would be nice for Spring. This color is perfect--a bit more on the pink side, but none the less works well. The color is also more opaque for a gloss, which I like. It did not travel from my lip line (as I needed no lip liner) and last through a meal. The formula is not slippery like some glosses, which makes it wear longer for me. I do plan on trying more colors.

Misc Beauty Tools -Serious Skin Care - Microcurrent machine
rated 4 of 5
thesavagefamily 2/5/2013 7:53:00 PM

I admit it--I am a sucker for home shopping channels and personal testimony! This being said, I bought this tool for about $120 and figured there was nothing to loose with a 30 day money back guarantee. I researched microcurrent and everything I saw was positive, so I did purchased it. The idea is that the current stimulates muscles and they become tighter. While I am only 37, I am beginning to notice fine "laugh lines" that bother me. I used it 15 minutes per day about 5x per week and after about 3 weeks I noticed my face was smoother in that area. The machine feels like pin pricks in skin, but is not uncomfortable. It has 10 levels, and I only use level 4-5 each time. It is easy to hold and the levels are adjusted easily by the buttons on the unit. I did not use the conductivity gel exclusively as I preferred by Garden of Wisdom hydrosols over the gel. I will continue to use it and am glad I purchased it.

Conditioner -Pantene - Expert Collection Age Defy Conditioner
rated 4 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/28/2013 12:40:00 PM

I don't usually use shampoo, as I use WEN, but I found the shampoo and conditioner for $7.50, so I thought I would try. I have naturally curly hair which has been permanently straightened with an Aveda system. My hair is on the dry side, but in good condition. I do have several greys and color my hair. The shampoo did lather well and made my hair feel very dry, so I was a bit worried. It did not strip my color, but my hair did feel dry. After the shampoo I used the conditioner and combed it through my hair. I left it on for a couple of minutes and rinsed. I was able to comb through my hair easily and my hair felt conditioned. Followed with my Macadamia oil and dryed. My hair was soft, smooth and bouncy. It did not feel dry at all or weighed down (as I have fine hair). I have used both the shampoo and conditioner about 5x now and been pleased with the results each time. I might repurchase after I run out of all my WEN!

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational Vivids
rated 5 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/7/2013 7:55:00 PM

I purchased the Neon Red color since I have been loving reds. On my NC 20 skin with brown hair, it is a stunning, vivid color (as the name replies). Neon red is an orange red on me,and has a nice finish. The formula is not drying and wears a while without fading unevenly. This lipstick is not for the faint of heart, but is great for a statement or to accent your lips. I do not like the packaging because it is not sealed from the manufacturer. Be sure to check yours to be sure it was not used.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Megalast Liquid Lip Color Raisin the Roof
rated 3 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/7/2013 7:49:00 PM

I found these with a $1 off coupon attached and have been obsessed with stain type lipsticks, so I thought I'd try. I reached for Raisin the Roof because it seemed like a beautiful plum color with gold shimmer. On my lips it is a nice berry color with a gold reflect pearl in it. The texture is very creamy going on, but dries to a sticky finish. The texture reminds me of the NYX lip creams, yet these don't dry down to be as dry as drying on my lips. They set and wear evenly like iron. I did apply clear lip balm over the tops, as they are a bit drying. For the price, I would pick one of these up, as the color is gorgeous. The picture is on the left side, and does not show the color well, but you can at least see texture.

Lipstick -Wet 'n' Wild - Megalast Liquid Lip Color Cherry on Top

I found these with a $1 off coupon attached and have been obsessed with stain type lipsticks, so I thought I'd try. I reached for Cherry on Top because of the red color and micro shimmer. On my lips it is a beautiful blue based red with very fine silver shimmer. The picture is on the right side, and does not show the rich red color, but you can at least see texture.

Treatments -Makeup Artist's Choice (MUAC) - TCA Peel
rated 5 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/27/2012 6:21:00 PM

I purchased the 18% TCA peel about 8 months ago and have been afraid to use it. I have used the mandelic acid 25% peel and the glycolic acid peels in the past, but have read horror stories on TCA peels, so I was hesitant. I have combo/hormonal acne skin with uneven pigmentation and light red marks from previous breakouts. I am expecting the peel to help with pigmentation combined with my use of Retin A. I thought I would post my experiences day to day, and hopefully it will help someone. I use Retin A .05 every night and the Obagi Clear and Blender. I do not have sensitive skin or re-active skin. I cleansed my skin with Cerave hydrating foundation then waited for about 1 hour. I mixed up baking soda and water (even though it does not need to be de-activated) and got ready to go. I used a q-tip and applied it to sections of my face (forehead, nose, cheek, cheek, chin) and waited about 1 min on each section. I saw no frosting, so I applied another layer and waited about 1.5 minutes-2 min. Maybe I could have left it on longer, but I did not want to take a chance. My face did not burn, but it was hot. After I rinsed I applied triple antibiotic ointment to the areas that frosted (tops of cheeks, side of nose, sides of chin) and josie maran argan oil to the rest of my face. I did not experience any tightening of the skin, and only mild redness. By the first evening, I was beginning to peel around my chin. Day 1: used Cerave pm moisturizer mixed with argan oil the previous night. I woke up to super soft, smooth skin. I did have slight peeling around nose and mouth (like flakes). I had to go out, so I applied moisturizer, argan oil, and a small dab of LM silk creme foundation. The foundation did not apply smoothly, and my peeling patches still looked flakey, but I didn't mind. When I got home, I washed with Cerave cleanser and moisturized with argan oil. Tonight I am headed out, so I used my Dr. Denise Day Cream with SPF 30 that is tinted and mixed in a little silk creme. My flakey patches were less noticeable. My skin still does not feel tight or uncomfortable and it is not red. I can see the top of my cheekbones are going to peel, so I'll see what tomorrow brings. Day 2: again woke up to super soft skin. I had slight flaking around the areas from yesterday, so I used my Philosophy microdelivery wash to help get rid of them. Again, it was flakes--not deep peeling, so I felt it was fine. I put on moisturizer and again mixed a bit of the LM foundation with the Dr. Denese spf cream and went out for the day. I did have patches of flakes, but nothing too noticeable. Again, no redness or irritation. Tonight my face feels pretty dry, so I put on a layer of Cerave pm with argan oil added, and will put on more as the evening goes on. I am very pleased that I have not had the leather, lizard face that some people speak of, as I did not want the down time. Day 3: Had even fewer flakes this morning. I was able to use a bit more LM foundation and added it after my SPF. Later in the day I noticed my cheeks and forehead flaking quite a bit, so I removed my makeup and moisturized with argan oil. Again, very slight flaking and no redness. Overall I am seeing red marks a bit lighter and overall skintone a bit more even. Day 4: very light flaking this morning on cheeks. Used my clarisonic and it removed dead skin. Skin is back to normal, no peeling or flakes. I do notice clearer skin and more even tone. I am pleased overall and I will try it again next month.

Liquid -Revlon - PhotoReady Airbrush Mousse Makeup
rated 1 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/25/2012 10:55:00 PM

I don't think I have ever purchased a product worse than this foundation! I did not find sparkles in the foundation, but it applied splotchy, was greasy after 3 hours (I usually don't get oily), and didn't cover anything. I first tried this with a LM skunk brush, but it applied blotchy and uneven. Then, I tried a sponge with less luck. It also slightly burned my skin upon application, and I have tough skin with no sensitivities. I am returning this to CVS due to the application, coverage, and how it made my skin oily.

Treatments -Kate Somerville - Exfolikate
rated 4 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/17/2012 7:10:00 PM

I did not want to like this product due to the price--but I did. I usually use Mechelle Pumpkin Peel or the Fruit Enzyme peel and have been pleased with the results. I used a sample of the Exfolikate and loved that my skin was so soft and flake free (after Retin A use) after using one time. I leave it on my skin for about 2 min the rinse. Sometimes it stings a bit upon application, but it goes away quickly. I only use a tiny bit of this due to price, but I would repurchase due to the results of glowing skin.

Shampoo -Wen by Chaz Dean - Six Thirteen
rated 5 of 5
thesavagefamily 1/16/2012 9:56:00 PM

I am a fan of the other cleansing conditioners, so I wanted to try 613. I have fine, dry, color treated, keratin treated, naturally curly hair. My hair never gets oily, and I can use multiple serums with no problems. I was not worried about this being too heavy for my hair, as I have never had that problem. While it was thicker than the regular WEN line, my hair did not feel as moisturized while using it as it does with the normal like. Maybe I did not use enough, so I will use more next time. I did follow with my Kerastase conditioner, and was left with shiny, moisturized hair.
