Fragrances -Bath and Body Works - Forever Red
theluscioushellcat 12/17/2012 4:14:00 PM
I sampled this in BBW when picking up my mom's Christmas stocking stuffers of BBW lotion. I sprayed this in the air and sniffed and smelled nothing. I figured there were so many other fragrances in the store that I was just missing it. I sprayed a wee bit on my sleeve - still nothing. Sprayed more - nothing. Sprayed my sleeve again - got it actually wet - and figured I'd try it again later when not in BBW at all. I sniffed my sleeve about 30 minutes later when I got into the car - almost nothing. A little fruit and a tiny bit of the rum, and that's all. I feel extremely sorry for BBW that they actually created, hyped and are trying to sell a fragrance that has little to no actual scent.

Lips -Burt's Bees - Tinted Lip Balm Red Dahlia
theluscioushellcat 10/14/2012 5:29:00 PM
A lightweight (not thick, waxy, gloppy) balm with a nice hint of reddish-brown color. It's not a product for the dry cold harsh weather of winter (I use Lypsyl for that) but it's very nice for an everyday balm for your purse or pocket. It's nice in every way.

Lips -Revlon - Colorburst Lip Butter in Red Velvet
theluscioushellcat 9/1/2012 4:22:00 PM
I have very fair skin, light olivey-brown freckles, red hair and dark brown eyes. A lot of colors either clash or look muddy on me. Red Velvet is workable for me. I note that my sisters here refer to this as brick red - and I guess that would depend on whether your local bricks have more of a blue or an orange tone. I get the blue, not the orange. It is quite good, applied very sparingly for day. I might blot it and then follow with a lip gloss. Or just apply to my lower lip and moosh my lips together. It is more pigmented than the other colors (plum and fig) I have tried from this line. Applied more generously, it would be elegant for evening. . Like all the other shades of Lip Butter, you get a very nice moisturization that isn't heavy, sticky, or greasy. No fragrance or taste. I live in Colorado where it is quite dry so any and all lip moisturization is welcome!

Fragrances -Coty - Truth or Dare by Madonna
theluscioushellcat 5/5/2012 8:13:00 PM
So, unbelievably, I am....51 now. Just a bit younger than Madonna. I don't really 'feel' any older than I did when I was say 30. It's just that I have better perspective on things. I have had experiences and yet still have dreams. I know what I want and what I'm willing to do, and not do, to get it. I know my mind and use it well. I know my heart and even with its broken places, it is still strong, beautiful and alive. This fragrance is like a godsend for me. I have been looking for something confident, floral, different, feminine. A fragrance for a woman, not a girl. NO trace of horrible ubiquitous fruitiness. Something sexy but not slutty. This perfume is exactly that, and more. The gardenia and tuberose are beautiful but not for the shy. Neither is the jasmine. I apply two tiny sprays, one in my cleavage and one on my wrists and that is plenty. For my overall body fragrance I apply a very light body mist from Victoria's Secret. Madonna Truth or Dare is for me to enjoy, and also for my lover who finds it very beautiful on me. The creamy white floral opening is amazing, but it does calm down, The trace of vanilla caramel in the base and in the finish is delightful but not foody, thank God. It's sexy but not animalic. Please don't buy this if you're under 35, and/or shy, and/or addicted to the million fruity florals out there. It just won't work.

Masks -Queen Helene - Mint Julep Masque
theluscioushellcat 3/13/2012 3:12:00 PM
Can't believe I've never reviewed it. This is the first step in my once-a-week facial. I put it on after moistening my face with warm water and let it set, then remove with a warm washcloth and lots of generous splashing with warm water. Leaves my skin very purified. I follow with a scrub, then moisturize richly. Also can work as an overnight acne spot treatment. Cheap but effective.

Mascara -Hard Candy - 1,000 Lashes Fiberized Mascara
theluscioushellcat 3/2/2012 2:56:00 PM
I have tried the L'Oreal false lash fiber mascara, and about every other mascara on earth. Picked this up at Walmart because, well, I try mascaras. Long lashes at last, without clumps or flakes or itchiness. NOT a volumizer, it's a lengthener. I have very bleah lashes, short and ashy. I can't ever get a good look with a mascara that claims to be both volume and length, and of the two, I would rather have length. I applied it with 2 or 3 light coats. The tube is kind of neat, makes me think I'll get all of the product out of the container. And the brush is odd, not very plush, but achieves the length and separation. I don't feel the fibers at all. Looks great. Certainly worth the price. Happy happy happy.

Moisturizers -Ponds - Rejuveness Anti-Wrinkle Cream
theluscioushellcat 2/28/2012 5:08:00 PM
My mom (age 76, great skin, still beautiful) wanted to try this when she found it at WalMart. She is only using it on her throat now because she seems happy with what she's got going in her skincare. I borrowed a blob of it and like how it leaves very soft silkiness behind. It's probably the lactic acid in the product. The label does caution against using right after washing, probably because of the acid. I did not have any burning or stinging. I have dry skin, far dryer than my mom's oddly enough. I think I want more emollience than this product offers but I do like it.

Lip Treatments -Smith's Rosebud Salve - Brambleberry Rose lip balm
theluscioushellcat 2/20/2012 5:39:00 PM
I have just finished a Purge of my makeup drawer and found this little treasure. Thought I had lost it. Smells and feels wonderful, like wine berries and roses. It is not that moisturizing and I do wish it came in a more sanitary packaging like a tube, pump, or stick. But even with those drawbacks, it's really a delight.

Lip Treatments -Bath and Body Works - Savannah Bee Company lip balm in Tupelo Honey
theluscioushellcat 2/18/2012 2:26:00 PM
I found one of these in my drawer and remembered that B&BW carried the line for awhile, some time ago. This is a wonderful balm that moisturizes without being gloppy, sticky or slick. The color is kind of plummy bronzey, goes on medium sheer. A coat over naked lips looks great, very YLBB. I hit Google and found that you can still buy these products online, a 3 pack for $13.

Moisturizers -Kiehls - Rosa Arctica Cream
theluscioushellcat 2/18/2012 12:10:00 PM
I picked this up along with the Midnight Recovery Essential Oil. The rich thick texture appeals to me because I have basically dry skin (except on my chin, sigh) and live in Colorado where it's quite dry. Sometimes I'll pamper my face when I'm going to be home all Saturday doing house stuff and lazing around, or if I wash my face after coming home from work. I cleanse and exfoliate, then mix a generous dab of this, a pea-sized blob of Help Me from Philosophy, and the Midnight Recovery Essential Oil in my palm and spread over my face and neck. I would not put this on immediately before bed because it takes a while to absorb, and you don't want the product on the pillow. The result is that my skin looks and feels smoother, softer, more radiant, and my big forehead line is minimized. I'm 51 now (wow, how time flies) and nobody has ever guessed my true age. I am blessed with good skin (I never sunbathed) but I have to work at it. This is an investment that is paying off in how my skin looks and feels.

Lips -Maybelline - Super Stay 10 Stain Gloss
theluscioushellcat 1/27/2012 12:52:00 PM
I got #180, Mauve Dream, yesterday and I am just delighted. I love stain because my lips don't have that much pigment, color doesn't stay on my lips well. I have LORAC's Sheer Luck in a little glass bottle with a roller, and the Revlon Just Bitten pens and neither is exactly right. So I've been layering a stain with a tinted balm or gloss. The stain is perfect and goes on evenly. There is really not much gloss to it, so I add a sheer gloss or glossy balm over it. Kind of a fruity taste but whatever. I love having one product that does sheer color and gloss.

Lip Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lypsyl - Regular Lip Balm
theluscioushellcat 1/16/2012 5:20:00 PM
HOLY GRAIL LIP BALM. I am not kidding. Please stop reading this review and go buy this. Your lips will thank you, because this is moisturizing,non-irritating, well-packaged (cute bee!), a good value, and just overall wonderful. I have 12 (I counted!) other lip balms of all sorts, cheap to expensive, and this is the one I put on my lips every night before bed. Since using it faithfully, I've had no problems with chapping and a softer, moister appearance to my lips. Like I said, stop searching, get it.

Misc Beauty Tools -Clarisonic - Mia
theluscioushellcat 1/16/2012 5:15:00 PM
After a month of use of my Mia, (normal head, lavender) I can write a review. And here it is: LOVE IT. Here's the 411: (1) It's a wonderful washing experience. Gentle and pleasant. (2) The result of washing is fantastic - clean and smooth and soft. Not stripped feeling. (3) Moisturizer goes right in. (4) Improved skin texture and tone. I use much less foundation. (5) My monthly hormonal blemishes were not absent, but less severe this month. That is within the 'purge' period that others have commented on too. At 51, I have much better skin than a lot have. But I have to work at it. I am really glad I got this wonderful gift. It's great.

Lip Treatments -Maybelline - Baby Lips lip balm
theluscioushellcat 1/2/2012 2:14:00 PM
I have two of these, Cherry Pie which is really quite pink/red, and Quenched, which is clear. Both taste good, feel silky and moist. Doesn't last forever, but then I didn't expect that from this product. UPDATE: I won one of these from entering the contest on Facebook - they sent me the peach one. It is not orangey. at all, much more nude. I like!

Lotions/ Creams -Vaseline - Cocoa Butter Deep Conditioning lotion
theluscioushellcat 11/21/2010 5:47:00 PM
Not long ago, I was scratching my ankle under my sock and noticed that I had actually scratched my skin until it bled. Clearly I needed much more moisturizer - Bath & Body Works' assorted lotions weren't doing it, and while I love Jergen's Original Formula, it worked for me better in Dallas than in Denver. I bought this after remembering that my father's dermatologist, who was treating Dad for skin cancers, noted his terribly dry skin and recommended cocoa butter. Ahhhh, finally some real comfort for dry skin in dry Colorado in dry winter. This is not for normal skin, it's for dry skin, a dry skin that can tolerate a moisturizer that to a degree stays on top of the skin to protect and heal it. What I just wrote may imply that this is sticky, yet, I still don't find this sticky. I put this on after my shower, and by the time I have brushed my teeth, washed my face, put on my makeup and combed my hair, it's certainly 'in' enough to put on my clothes. That would be my normal routine for any lotion, so I haven't made any changes for this lotion. I haven't needed to. I like.
