Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Lots of Lashes
thejewelryjunkie 10/8/2011 2:29:00 AM
I'd been in need of a new mascara for a while, and was scraping the last bits of my Clinique's Long Pretty Lashes (rip!) and I saw Lots of Lashes on display at my local Walgreens. The first thing I do is check out the reviews on MUA haha. I was impressed by the general positive response so I decided to give it a whirl, in the blackest black. The first thing I really enjoy is the brush. The cone-like shape helps to pick up the tiny lashes in your inner corners, and took my lashes to pretty impressive heights. I really dig the formula, it's slick but not too wet, and the color is perfect. I also was able to get a nice curl, even without using a curling iron. I'm not the kind of girl who does a day vs. night mascara.. I want big, pretty lashes all the time! I think that this product can definitely do that if applied properly. The price is great, I scored it for around $5, and I love the pretty pink & green "iconic" packaging. For those of you who were "meh" on the original Great Lash, give this formula a try. I think Maybelline is really stepping up their game in terms of quality, so I'm hoping that this is mascara is here to stay.

Shampoo -Clairol - Herbal Essences Touchably Smooth Shampoo
thejewelryjunkie 9/14/2011 3:01:00 PM
I bought this thinking that it would be just another so/so Herbal Essences product that wouldn't do much as far as styling my hair but, hey, at least it would smell good. I was pleasantly surprised however when I noticed how soft & silky my hair was after shampooing with this. It really does have a much softer & smoother texture after I dried my hair. The following day at work I couldn't stop touching my hair! I didn't pick up the conditioner, but instead tried the new Garnier Sleek & Shine Frizz Defeat Deep Conditioner, and the combo has paired up very nicely. I would definitely recommend this shampoo, especially if you live somewhere with tons of humidity! It will help your hair maintain the smooth look without weighing it down! And for a few bucks it's definitely worth a try!

Polishes -OPI - Black Shatter
thejewelryjunkie 3/26/2011 3:09:00 PM
I saw all the hype about Shatter, and had been doing the whole bare nails thing for a while, so I figured I needed some pretty, good stuff to get me back into the swing of things, and I purchased the Serena William's Simply Smash-ing & Black Shatter duo on Amazon for a pretty good steal. I am really pleased with my results with the first try of the product! The "shatter" affect is really unique, and I like that each nail is not uniform so it's a bit forgiving for your manicure. This does dry very quickly, and that is probablby my only complaint, but with a bit more practice I'm sure I'll get the technique down to a science. A top coat is a must have too! I love this look, it's so unique and fun, and the shatter looks amazing over a glittering polish. I'm sure it would look good over any lighter shades though. I hope they extend the line and create other shades of Shatter too! The possibilities are endless! I know that China Glaze makes a 'shatter-like' product, but I've always liked OPI polishes. Thank you OPI for getting me excited to paint my nails again (:

Polishes -OPI - Simply Smash-ing
thejewelryjunkie 3/26/2011 2:51:00 PM
So, I haven't been on the nail polish bandwagon for quite some time. I just never found the time to do my nails, and it had really started bothering me. So with the start of Spring, I made a resolve to buy some really nice, fun polish and actually it. As I was looking at the hype for the Katy Perry collection from OPI, I found the Serena Williams Simply Smash-ing & Black Shatter duo on Amazon for a pretty good deal, so I figured why not? I had forgotten how beautiful OPI colors really were until I swiped Simply Smash-ing on my bare nails. The bottle really does try to do the color justice, but it's definitely not served! This is a gorgeous lemony-limey hue, and reminds me of a sparkly tennis ball. It's definitely not day-glo, but it packs enough color to be noticed. I love the shade, it's perfect for Spring and Summer, but I would probably wear it anytime I'm in a fun and funky mood. I hesitated to apply the Black Shatter because the shade looks so pretty on its own, but it definitely takes the look to a different level! So fun and unique, you'll love this shade either by itself or with the shatter! I plan on buying again in the future (:

Shampoo -Ojon - Shine and Protect
thejewelryjunkie 11/24/2010 11:37:00 PM
Blah is the word that comes to mind with this shampoo. I was excited when we got this in at the ccs I work out, because I've heard it is 'good stuff', but I have to honestly disagree. The smell is okay, not my fave but definitely better than most like pureology for example. I'm not a big fan of shampoo that doesn't lather much. I love a big, sudsy mess on my head when I shampoo, and you won't get that with this, or at least I didn't. The shampoo (and conditioner) just did nothing for me. No.exceptional shine or wow factor. I have moderately thick, pretty healthy hair, and I had been on a dyeing kick so wanted to keep my hair healthy and pretty, and this just doesn't cut it.

Blush -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish - Cheeky Bronze
thejewelryjunkie 11/24/2010 11:04:00 PM
So, I think I can say I'm addicted to MSFs. This shade is probably my fave of all. It's a beautiful shade, a pretty pinky orange on my olive skin. I actually use it lightly all over my face, and concentrate it on my cheeks. As long as you watch your hand, you CAN avoid looking like a 'disco ball'. This is a must have in your beauty arsenal, and lucky for me I work at a CCS so I snag a great deal on all kinds of discontinued goodies.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies
thejewelryjunkie 7/31/2010 2:56:00 AM
Okay, so like most makeup junkies, when I see a new anything being pimped on tv & magazines, I wanna try it. My makeup stash is like an elephant graveyard for mascara, seriously. Shopping one day at my local friendly neighborhood Walmart (insert sarcasm), I picked up a package of the falsies in the blackest black they have, I can't quite remember the name of it off the top of my head. Anyhoo, I was so curious to try the product I refrained from even wearing mascara to my shopping excursion so I could try it on as soon as I got back to the car. I'm pretty pleasantly pleased with this product. No, it doesn't make you look like you painstakingly put false lashes on, but it does have an extra "oomph" that the other 1934799734823 million mascaras don't. I really like the brush with the curved spoon, and found it easy to hold and manipulate. It takes about a few coats to get a nice lash line, and I like how it is somewhat buildable. When you have the time, you can easily make your lashes touch the top of your eyelid nicely, without looking having a spider-lash vibe. Even when running short on time, a few quick coats makes my eyes look big and doe-eyed, which my boyfriend loves. I feel like this product can give you great length and volume much better than lash blast from covergirl. I also like how easy it is to coat the bottom lashes with this wand, and it seems to make them look a little more "showy" than usual. I really like the bright packaging, making it easy to locate in my makeup bag. In conclusion, I think that in a world of constant new up and coming drugstore mascaras, this one definitely stands out and is a homerun for Maybelline and the ladies who decide to add it to their mascara graveyard (:

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HiP Metallic Duo - Platinum
thejewelryjunkie 7/31/2010 2:36:00 AM
So, the dirt cheap rating comes from this product being given to me by a friend who never wore this shade duo. I've only tried it once, and really liked it! The silver is SUPER PIGMENTED. Seriously, this shade will probably glow in the dark lol! It's got crazy shine and a nice shimmer, and the black shadow nicely complements the silver and is very buildable. I think this is the perfect start for someone wanting to attempt a funky smokey eye. I used this and a nice frosted white shadow for highlighting and I got tons of compliments! Plus, since it is very buildable you can easily do a day and night version of the smokey eye with this duo. My one drawback is the package. It's neat that the applicator brush has it's own little compartment, but I'm assuming at least 90% of users who frequent this site use brushes to apply makeup, and once you find a great brush set, the included applicators are garbage! I guess this is nice if you have to do a quick touchup, though. So, if you're on the fence about this one, I say do it! Even with getting this for free I'm sure I'll purchase this product once I run out.

Lip Treatments -Soap and Glory - Sexy Motherpucker Lip Gloss
thejewelryjunkie 6/15/2010 11:59:00 PM
So, I stumbled upon this product at a local "treasure-hunt" type store a few weeks ago and was really intrigued but didn't buy it. I came across it again, and figured why not. I actually purchased a 3 pack of this with the plum-ish color, the matte-like pink, and the glitzy bronzey color for around $7 which I'm sure was a steal! I've tried all 3 colors on over the course of the day, and so far I'm in love! The scent was a little funky at first, but it grows on you! And I LOVE the tingling sensation in my lips. I can also see a noticeable difference in the fullness & plumpness of my lips after applying this product. It is a bit stickier than I normally like, and I'm sure I'll hear complaints from my boyfriend, but it's much easier to handle than something like MAC lipglass. And the packaging is SO cute, and I love the tubes this gloss comes in. This gloss is very pretty alone, and I'm sure will look great when paired over lipstick as well. I'll definitely purchase again!

Lip Gloss -Bonne Bell - Liquid Lip Smacker - Pink Lemonade
thejewelryjunkie 8/18/2009 6:17:00 PM
Okay, so we all now Lip Smackers where the rage when we were kids. I remember being in elementary school and having the pink lemonade lip smacker and loving the scent and the way it coated my lips with a nice shine. Well, that still applies today too. When I was shopping at a salvage store with my friend we noticed they had a huge shipment of cosmetics, & I found this scent in a 3 pack that came with the liquid lip, the lip gloss, & the regular chapstick. I got super excited and bought it because Bonne Belle products have been hard to come by where. Plus it was a steal at like, $2 because of the 60% off price, but these products don't break the bank full priced too. The scent is AMAZING! Seriously, nice & tart, yet sweet. Very addictive. The liquid goes on super smooth, and is just nice, shiny, & clear. It really doesn't last long with me because I am constantly moving my lips together, reveling in the feeling lol. But this is a nice, cute gloss to keep in your purse when you just want a quick shine & a nice scent to enjoy. Perfect for a touch up when going out or running into the grocery store! I love it!

Concealers -Physicians Formula - Circle Rx
thejewelryjunkie 8/18/2009 6:06:00 PM
Okay, I've seen this product at drug stores but never paid much attention to it. A friend and I were shopping at a salvage store that usually gets in really nice stuff, and they had a huge shipment of makeup. I found this and was excited because with the 60% discount it was only $3! I LOVE this product so far. It is the only under eye concealer that I feel actually helps hide my dark circles and brightens my eyes. The packaging is nice and slim, & easy to store in a makeup bag or purse. I know some people have complained about the consistency, but I find it to be just right. It's definitely buildable. Oh, and someone posted it did a horrible job at covering blemishes; maybe that's because it's marketed as an eye concealer? I would definitely be purchasing this in the future, and am excited to see if it really does help clear up dark circles under the eyes.

Fragrances -Victoria's Secret - Pink Perfume
thejewelryjunkie 8/11/2009 1:05:00 AM
Ahh, this perfume brings me back to so many memories! This is my boyfriend's favorite perfume ( only second to Ralph Lauren Ralph) & I constantly have been getting nagged to wear it more often. I love the fresh, clean scent. I think it's a little harsh for it to be called unoriginal. I think this is a staple in many women's beauty collections, and will continue to be. It has a scent that is undeniably irresistable. It actually reminds me of pink lemonade in a way! I've never been one for heavier perfumes, and this one is perfect if you want a light, easy to wear yet super sexy scent that will drive your significant other crazy! It wears well on the skin, and the lotions are also nice too. I could only wish they would make a Pink shampoo; my boyfriend would go nuts! So, I can see where the younger crowd would naturally gravitate towards it, but to all my older ladies; don't be afraid to pick it up & get your Pink on whenever you want a nice change of pace!

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - On the Loose Shimmering Powder in Beauty Queen [DISCONTINUED]
thejewelryjunkie 7/28/2009 6:46:00 PM
This was by far the best overall eyeshadow I ever used! The beautiful pigment of the lavender-gold looked great on my eyes and was just stunning. I'm so sad they don't make this anymore! I've looked high and low and still can't believe they would stop making such a wonderful shade. I think all of us makeupalley ladies (and gents if you're out there!) should band together & start blowing L'Oreal up about bringing this back! At a recent trip to Kohl's I found an eyeshadow in their exclusive makeup brand called Flirt that reminded me of this slightly, so I may have to try that out. But Beauty Queen was a definite must have back in the day!

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Colossal
thejewelryjunkie 6/1/2009 2:52:00 AM
Okay, so I was a sucker for the ads on television and the promises of super-thick, yummy collagen-infused lashes. What I got when I purchases this product was a clumpy, funky smelling product. The mascara was very runny & smudged very easily, and it made my eyelashes look like cakey spiderwebs. Not cute at all. I was excited about the product, and I liked the bright yellow and purple of the packaging, but this is honestly one of the worst mascaras I have ever tried. And I've tried a lot. Please ladies, don't waste your money on this garbage!!!
