I have this in Pink Punch, which is a lovely fuschia shade, perfect for summer and spring! I absolutely adore the brush applicator- I'm usually pretty clumsy and end up getting the polish everywhere, but the brush ensures a neater application. I also like the fact that the formula dries quickly, which is great, especially since I'm fiddly and can't stand waiting for my nail polish to dry! Definitely use a base and top coat to prolong wear and to prevent chipping. Price-wise, this was definitely on the expensive side (AU$7.95) in stores, but I purchased this as a treat for myself and it did the job.
Lip Gloss -Revlon - Super Lustrous - Shine That Pink
sweetheart_xo 7/29/2011 7:29:00 PM
I couldn't rave enough about this product. It is absolutely beautiful. The colour is hot-pink with a high gloss finish, and it is not only pigmented but does not leave an undesirable sticky feel. I do believe you get what you pay for, and even though this was slightly more expensive than the other drugstore lipglosses I normally get, it is so worth it! This is great topped over lipsticks for that extra oomph, or even worn on its own. Also, I must say I really like the packaging these glosses come in- not tacky at all and very elegant. Great aesthetic feel.
I had to have this lipstick the moment I saw it. I am a fan of wearing bright colours (think fuschia, red) however Rimmel's Pink Blush looked SO pretty and it was a nice matte shade, so I decided to get it. Big mistake here. I usually put on lip balm, lipstick and gloss over the top. With this, I did my exact same routine only to have an uneven application of colour. The texture of this is weird, far from the creamy formulas I am used to (Revlon, Australis). This also dried out my lips a LOT. Not an attractive look at all. I will not be repurchasing. It's strange because I have another bright red lipstick by Rimmel which is far from as drying as this one. Oh well :(
I love this concealer! The formula is creamy and pigmented, and one swipe is normally enough for my undereye circles. I don't have any issues with this creasing even though I have oily lids. I have the shade in 003 light/medium, and for reference I am an NC30. The packaging is sturdy and the lid does not come off easily in my makeup bag, which is great. I paid around $24.99 for this, which is a little pricey for a drugstore concealer, but it does the job well. I haven't noticed any shimmer in this product at all, so I have absolutely no complaints with that. Will repurchase.
I wore this powder foundation for the longest time! I was going on an extended holiday to Thailand and with the weather being hot and humid there, I was worried my liquid foundation would melt off! This was a good alternative, it provided light-medium coverage, and at the time I wanted to try a mineral based product. This stayed on all day and didn't oxidise on me. I must say the undertones were a little off though. I have naturally yellow-golden undertones and the shade I wore was perfect, except with pink undertones! It wasn't too noticeable though. At the time I was also on Accutane and this did NOT irritate my skin in any way, nor did it break me out. Prestige is a fantastic brand, however the shade selection in foundation needs to be improved. I would definitely continue to buy their face products if they did this!
Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Ego Sunsense Daily Face Matte Formula SPF30
sweetheart_xo 5/28/2011 6:33:00 AM
I don't understand why this doesn't have a higher rating! I have used this for a long, long time and I am completely in love with it. While I was on Accutane treatment, I used this over my moisturiser and I never experienced any sort of irritation whatsoever. I am no longer on the treatment, but I still use this on a daily basis in place of moisturiser (my skin has gone back to its post-Accutane state). The tint does nothing to even out my skintone, and the mattifying properties this product claims to have are non-existent. However, this has never stung or irritated my extremely sensitive skin in ANY way, and I love how quickly and easily this products sinks in. It does leave a bit of a sticky feel, but once I have primer and my usual foundation and powder on I'm not bothered by it at all. The product is dirt cheap, lasts a long time, comes in decent packaging and is available at most places. Will continue to repurchase over and over and over.
Eyeliner -Maybelline - Eyestudio Lasting Drama Gel Eyeliner
sweetheart_xo 5/28/2011 6:05:00 AM
After hearing about how this was comparable to MAC's gel liner Blacktrack, I had to get this as it was a fraction of the high-end price. First of all, I want to say the little brush it comes with is absolutely amazing! The bristles are stiff and dense enough for me to create a sturdy, smooth flick at the end of my eye, which I love! One thing I don't love as much about the product is its staying power. Even after priming my eyelid, using powder AND using an eyeliner seal, this smudged all over within an hour or two of wear. I'm not sure what I'm doing wrong, but then again I have oily lids and I don't really expect my eyeliner to stay on for that long. But 2 hours? Other than that, I love how intensely black and pigmented the colour is, and how creamy the formula is. This glides on beautifully and I have had no problems whatsoever with it flaking off or not 'drying', as many other reviewers have experienced. Overall, quite a good product. If I somehow manage to find a way to increase its staying power, I will repurchase.
Liquid -L'Oreal - True Match Super-Blendable Makeup SPF 17
sweetheart_xo 12/13/2010 6:21:00 AM
After jumping on the mineral makeup bandwagon a year ago, I realised it wasn't doing me much good or even providing close to the level of coverage I want/need. Hence I decided to do back to trusty old liquid foundation. I picked this up in Golden Beige (W3) and found this is quite a good match for my pan-asian skintone. It has a very liquid-y texture which makes it great for blending and preventing any cakiness, while with my MAC foundation it is literally a race against time trying to blend it before it dries! I have found True Match, while it provides a dewy look, controls the 'oilies' quite well and I don't end up looking like a walking disco ball at the end of the day. I have noticed the shimmers in the product, and I must say that is my only gripe about it. Packaging is superb and great for everyday use. Will repurchase. UPDATE: Have been using this on a daily basis for a couple of weeks and this has not broken me out at all. Also I have found I need to moisturise my skin very well before applying this as this tends to emphasise any flakiness or dry areas on the skin, such as around the nose, etc.
Firstly, I want to say that due to my ethnicity it is very very hard for me to find a foundation that matches my skin. However MAC did exactly that. Studio Fix Fluid applies smoothly and has the most amazing coverage I have ever seen in a foundation. I have a lot of acne scarring and hyperpigmentation, but with this on, I look like I have absolutely FLAWLESS skin. I don't even need to use a separate concealer, this baby covers so well! I also want to add that I have oily/combination skin and for some reason this foundation mattifies my skin quite well and I don't have to blot as often. I don't mind the fact that it doesn't come with a pump because I don't use this on a daily basis- explanation coming up. This foundation does take a bit more work removing at the end of the day, and due to its high intensity and full coverage it does clog my pores :( I haven't experienced cystic acne after wearing this, but I do get a tiny bit more 'problem' areas. I paid about AU$48 for this product. It is my special-occasion makeup. And did I mention it photographs beautifully?
Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Neutrogena Moisture SPF 15
sweetheart_xo 11/8/2010 2:58:00 AM
Generally, I have had a lot of success with Neutrogena products and this is no exception. This doesn't irritate my combination, acne-prone skin and doesn't cause any breakouts either. I've used it for a while under my mineral makeup and I find it's quite a good base for powder foundation. I wish the SPF in it was higher, as I live in Australia and using products of SPF30+ are recommended here. However, that aside, this is a good daily moisturiser, sinks in quickly, doesn't leave a white sheen and is a good makeup base.
Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Oil Free Moisture [DISCONTINUED]
sweetheart_xo 11/8/2010 2:52:00 AM
I love this! This is one of my favourite products to use :) I love how light it feels, how easily it sinks in.. I find it also helps to mattify my skin and its primer-like quality is great under liquid foundation. I have oily, combination, sensitive and acne-prone skin (can't get any better than that!) and this doesn't irritate it at all, or cause any breakouts. The only gripe I have is that it doesn't contain any SPF, which means I have to use a separate sunscreen under my makeup. But I can definitely live with that. Will continue to repurchase. UPDATE: I have been using this product for close to a year, and it is no longer doing the job for me. This actually increases oil production, for some weird reason, and does not work with the liquid foundation I am currently using (True Match). I used to lovelovelove this, but anymore sadly! Removed 1 lippie.
After a bad experience with a very unhygienic MAC makeup artist, my skin broke out in numerous little bumps, all over my forehead, cheeks and chin. My skin was feeling itchy, tight and uncomfortable, and I pulled out one of my Avene Skin Recovery Cream samples that I picked up from work the other day. I've used this twice, once before bed and in the morning, and my skin is so so much better. This totally cleared up any itching and redness I had and helped to soothe my irritated skin. I normally have oily/combination skin and this does make my skin feel a little greasy (after all I'm used to all my mattifying face products) however I'm not complaining :) Very, very pleased with it. I don't think it would be suitable to use on a daily basis though, but for times like these it works an absolute treat.
Sunscreen -Avene - Very High Protection Sunscreen Cream SPF30+ UVA/UVB
sweetheart_xo 11/7/2010 1:54:00 AM
I've been on the hunt for a new SPF30+ sunscreen that's moisturising enough to use on its own under makeup, and thought a good place to start might be Avene. I work in a pharmacy and get to sample brand-new tester products before they hit the shelves, and I have used this a few times on occasion just to see if I like it. This is quite thick, and slightly gluggy in texture. It is a tinted sunscreen, but does not provide any coverage whatsoever (unlike a tinted moisturiser). This also leaves a white sheen after it's rubbed in, which I am not fond of at all! On the other hand, this will be perfect for those with dry, sensitive skin, and for those who have had success with using other Avene products. There are definitely better sunscreens out there, and I will not be purchasing this.
Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Nail Polish (any color)
sweetheart_xo 10/30/2010 3:36:00 AM
I picked this up in 'Sunshine' as I thought it was a really cute, cheerful colour for summer. I have tried applying this with a base coat, and without, and both times I have encountered the same problem. The nail polish is gluggy and doesn't apply smoothly, and god forbid you paint a second coat on- it looks like a complete and utter mess! I don't know about the 'lasting finish' quality, it started to chip after a couple of days (with a topcoat on). The colour, when dry, looks nothing like the colour in the bottle- it's more of a mustard-yellow which I'm not too keen on. Not very pleased with it at all. Into the bin it goes.
This is an excellent night cream for people suffering from dry/sensitive skin. It doesn't irritate the skin, contain any fragrance/colour, is great for diminishing any dryness/flakiness and my skin feels smooth and comfortable the morning after using it. However, I find that it's quite thick and difficult to rub in, and tends to sit on the surface of the skin for a while before finally getting absorbed. This sinks in much much better after exfoliating, but I don't exfoliate every day and hence have to live with it being a slightly thick, goopy mess. I have oily/combination/acne-prone skin and this has not broken me out, but then again, it's not really suitable for my skintype. UPDATE: I've been using this for about 2 weeks as it's just been sitting there, and I've found that this is way too rich for my skin type. I have had tiny skin-coloured bumps (clogged pores?) appearing on my T-zone. Not repurchasing.
