Polishes -Butter London - Slapper
surleslevres14 9/16/2012 12:18:00 PM
It seems like every magazine I pick up or blog I read there's a plethora of hype concerning Butter London's nail polishes. I've bought Nars, MAC, etc and I never found their nail polishes to be anything special. So at $17 a pop in Canada, Butter London seemed ridiculous to me, but then I fell in love with Slapper. I saw the colour through swatches and on a fashion blogger I follow. I ordered it offline for about $13 (cheaper than in store, so I was able to justify it- sort of). The application was absolutely flawless. It was fast drying, opaque, and it gives your nails this juicy/glossy finish even without a top coat! However, the colour I was hoping for I did NOT get. The colour you see online is a bright, turquoise colour, almost like a lapis. I got this green-teal colour- definitely more green than blue (just for a reference, in Nars I wear their foundation in Barcelona. I don't attribute this colour discrepancy to be due to my colouring but more so due to it not photographing well). Bottom line: Amazing application, fast drying, opaque, and shiny. Is it the colour I wanted? No. Do I still like it? YES. It's still this bright teal-green colour, that may not be the bright lapis-like summer colour I was hoping for, but I suppose it was for the best. It's fall/autumn now, so this may have been a blessing in disguise. In my opinion, this greenish teal is a lovely transition from summer to fall, without taking that little bit of sunshine away.

Mascara -Lancome - Definicils Mascara

I kept seeing this mascara in all the 'favourites' sections across various magazine and caved about a year ago. It's not my staple mascara and have given up looking for something better. I haven't looked back and I couldn't be happier! I have moderately long lashes with a decent amount of curl. This mascara gives me the 'just cried' look where your eyelashes are reaching for that stars. My eyelashes look almostttt fake (I've gotten a few questions here and there) but I wouldn't say it looks like I'm rocking a pair of falsies. Although, this mascara has given me the best results that have come close enough. The only issue I have with this is that it does dry out quickly.

Mascara -BeneFit Cosmetics - BADgal Lash

I'm shocked with all the negative reviews! This is my new staple mascara (next to Lancome Defensils) and I'm a HUGE fan. My eyelashes are naturally moderately long with a decent amount of curl. I purchased this to mainly make my eyelashes appear longer. It's easy to use and if you do the side-to-side motion while using the mascara wand I got instant volume without the clump. I wouldn't say my eyelashes look fake or anything. They look long and full without flaking or clumping. I'm not sure if this is a mascara that would work for those with stick straight eyelashes but I could be wrong.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose

Wasn't impressed. My eyelashes are moderately long on their own and this mascara didn't live up to the hype for me. It made my eyelashes appear clumpy and short.

Toners -Shiseido - White Lucent Brightening Balancing Softener Enriched

As stated on the other WL reviews, I bought this line at the Shiseudo warehouse sale so the price was quite cheap. I recently (a few days ago) realized that the entire time I've been using the line (for 6 months I think?) I've forgotten to use their softener! I was using my old Clinique or Philosophy toner. In my defense, the idea of their softener just didn't click...until now. As if the WL line didn't brighten my complexion enough, I found that just by adding this softener to my WL routine that I get a radiance that I've never seen before. It's absolutely ridiculous. I had to google exactly what this softener does and to be honest, if I didn't see the effects first hand, I would have said it was a gimmick. I highly recommend this product. If anyone were to purchase the WL line I would say the wash and softener are definitely worth the money. Especially those with sensitive skin! PS. I docked 1 lippy because I find the product a bit more difficult to come out (the first bottle was good, the second requires more of an aggressive shake).

Moisturizers -Shiseido - White Lucent Brightening Moisturizing Emulsion
surleslevres14 7/7/2012 11:11:00 PM
I purchased this from the warehouse sale so it was quite cheap, however, I would probably pass if I were to pay regular price. Although this does give my face a nice glow (mind you, this could be attributed to the White Lucent face wash, cleanser and softener), it doesn't moisturize my skin enough. I find the consistency to be quite thin and I usually have to use another moisturizer with it. I find that if I use this as a regular moisturizer (as some people apparently do) it's almost as if I wasn't wearing a moisturizer at all...its lasting power is a few hours at best. My makeup definitely doesn't look as good. I will be buying this product again (at the next sale!) however, it is merely due to following the WL regime--which 100% has given me the coveted glow I've been looking for.

Lotions/ Creams -Aloette - Visible Aid

I am absolutely in love with this product! I have dry/sensitive skin and I find it difficult to find a product that actually hydrates my skin long-term without me looking like a greaseball. This product (if used sparingly--a little goes a long way!) is amazing. I happen to like the smell, although I can't quite put my finger on it...like a minty lavenderish aroma? I usually use this after I use a mask/cleanser as a part of my night regime. However, I'm beginning to mix it in with my moisturizers as a part of my daily makeup routine aswell since it is the summer afterall and a girl's got to stay hydrated! I definitely would recommend for those with sensitive/dry skin (you won't regret it!), but not for those with oily skin.

Cleansers -Shiseido - White Lucent Brightening Cleansing Foam
surleslevres14 6/20/2012 5:22:00 PM
I purchased the entire White Lucent line and my skin had never looked more even! I have darker areas on my skin due to waxing and that sort of thing, but this definitely helped lighten the areas and give my skin an overall brighter look! If scars are an issue, this is also fabulous with lightening those as well. It's also quite gentle so it's perfect for those with sensitive skin. It leaves your skin feeling so clean and fresh. If the price is what's holding you back, definitely look into the Shiseudo warehouse sale! But even so, I would definitely definitely recommend!
