Sunscreen -Peter Thomas Roth - Uber Dry Sunscreen SPF 30
rated 5 of 5

I found this really protected my fair skin, but still allowed me to toast. It's completely un-greasy and did not break me out at all. o far, I'm loving it. I'm packing it for a trip to the Virgin Islands...let's see how it fares there.

Sunscreen -Kiehls - Super Fluid UV Defense Spf 50+
rated 5 of 5
sullenmoon 5/1/2011 2:31:00 PM

Just came back from a week in the USVI, where the sun was super strong. I had a sample vial of this with me, along with other sunscreen. I ended up using this daily and came home lightly toasted, no burn...which for my fair skin and love of the sun was an achievement. This is much easier to use than Anthelios, because it goes on very lightly. There is no need to rub it into your skin for ten minutes to prevent a white mask, yet it protects thoroughly. I snorkled, swam, and spent loads of time in the water, and this worked perfectly. I am purchasing a full bottle for the summer...love it!

Self Tanners -Bare Escentuals - Faux Tan
rated 5 of 5

Totally agree with californiagrl. I have tried a multitude of self-tanners, many of them upon MUA reviewer recommendations, and found this one (I only tried the liquid version) to be the best in terms of a natural looking tan. Gloves are definitely a must for application...they help avoid any staining. I actually like the scent, and the tan will stay for a bit. My skin is hard to tan...i can get orange...but this product is amazing.

Fragrances -L'Artisan Fragrances - Havana Vanille
rated 2 of 5
sullenmoon 5/13/2010 2:49:00 PM

I had high hopes for this after reading the reviews but it is way too cloyingly sweet, even for vanilla. The vanilla, however, is not the problem; whatever it's layered with is. There is something candy-ish about the combination of the top layers. It's a scrubber on me and I'm going to put it up for swap...that's how much I dislike it...even though I have almost a full bottle.

Moisturizers -Mario Badescu - Seaweed Night Cream
rated 4 of 5
sullenmoon 1/11/2009 9:45:00 AM

As other reviewers have noted, this is a dense moisturizer...which is probably why it is deemed "Night" cream. I have combination skin and veer away from anything oily, so I was fairly certain I was not going to like this after first opening the jar. It surprised me, however... it goes on very thick and feels kinda oily, but it quickly absorbs into the skin. My face feels great in the morning...very soft, with no oily residue. Give it a chance to work overnight, and use sparingly...i think that is key. A little goes a long way, which makes it even more cost efficient. If you apply it in gobs, you will feel like an oil slick. As of now, will definitely re-purchase.

I'm glad I sampled this first. Despite fairly positive reviews I found it cloylingly sweet and old ladyish...ugh!

Fragrances -Tova - Tova Signature Eau De Parfum
rated 2 of 5
sullenmoon 11/29/2008 11:18:00 AM

After having imposed a moritorium on my last, citronella-ish bottle of Tova, I caved and purchased a bottle of the supposedly new and improved formula in the elixir version. I read that this was supposedly the return to the old Tova I loved so well, but I crashed and burned. The bottle is pretty but clearly kind of a b&*^h to open and the "new, improved" scent is medicinal/imdustrial cleaner. I am so disappointed, because I really wanted to believe. Tova was my signature scent for years, but I'm done. QVC should be ashamed to have corrupted what was once a really fine affordable cologne.

Fragrances -Comptoir Sud Pacifique - Vanille Canelle
rated 2 of 5
sullenmoon 8/23/2008 1:12:00 PM

Ditto on the cinnabons, and sadly, no staying power. I like it's spiciness, but it is also mega heavy on the alcohol, which for me seems as dominant as the spice. Concept is good, but the execution falls short.

Fragrances -Lavanila - Vanilla Coconut - Healthy Fragrance
rated 2 of 5
sullenmoon 8/23/2008 1:03:00 PM

I received this as a gift from a friend who knows my penchant for vanilla and coconut. Unfortunately, I found this scent to be true headache material...cloyingly sweet on my skin. It lasts...too long... and with another body chemistry, may combine more favorably. Mine is up for swap.

Fragrances -Parfums De Nicolai - Fig Tea
rated 5 of 5
sullenmoon 7/23/2008 1:08:00 PM

Loved this one by Nicolai, one of my favorite perfume houses. It is an HG summer fragrance for me. It goes on clean and cool, with the citrus/woody fig lingering on me the entire day. I love that it is not cloyingly sweet or overpowering; rather, on me this is a gentle fragrance that elicits many compliments. Brings me to a soft, cool glade no matter how hot it gets outside. I will definitely repurchase when my bottle runs out.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - LesNez Let Me Play the Lion
rated 5 of 5
sullenmoon 7/23/2008 12:59:00 PM

Ok, so it probably had me at the name, but after wearing this for four months, it's clearly one of my favs. Basia's review is right on target... this is the most interesting of the LesNez line, and as other reviewers have noted, the scent plays with smoke, soft woods, and a persistent undercurrent of sweetness. Mysterious and playful it is, but I find the sweetness renders this ultimately more of a woman's than man's scent. Lasting power is great on my skin... i am teased by the fragrance all day long, and the sillage is just enough to perk up nostrils and evoke interest...as well as imagination.

Fragrances -Comme des Garcons - Series 5- Cinnamon Sherbet
rated 2 of 5
sullenmoon 7/23/2008 12:38:00 PM

I'm a spice lover, especially deep cinnamon. Cinnamon Sherbet goes on cool and delicately for summer, but the cinnamon I had been looking forward to is diluted...just a light waft, if that. Sillage is minimal, and dominant tones are more green than spicy. This is not to say that the scent is horrible...it is pleasant enough, but not at all what I expected.

Foundations -Giorgio Armani - Face Fabric Second Skin Nude Makeup
rated 5 of 5
sullenmoon 7/23/2008 12:29:00 PM

I bought this based on rave reviews here and elsewhere, and I'm not disppointed. Face Fabric does not feel like any other foundation/corrector I've ever used. It disappears into the skin so there is no residual, thus allowing you to get really close without worrying about makeup face. The blending is really seamless and the lasting power superb. This was also my first foray into GA cosmetics, and it won't be my last.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - miller et bertaux 1 parfum trouve for you
rated 5 of 5
sullenmoon 4/13/2008 4:35:00 PM

I was hooked upon first whiff. There's little I can add to the excellent reviews already posted here except that when you walk into a room wearing trouve for you, people gradually take note. It causes a flurry of reaction...not a slap of cloying, heavy scent, but a slow, sensual stroke. Nostrils quiver. The inevitable " who smells so delicious?" will be played. And then it will linger in just the right way.

Liquid -Tarte - Peaches and Cream Liquid Powder Foundation
rated 2 of 5

I agree with twostellas. Despite the mostly positive reviews, I found this too thick and well, visible. It reminded me of the proverbial pancake makeup. I did much better with Smooth Operator.
