Shampoo -Unlisted Brand - Nizoral AD Shampoo

This stuff works!! In fact it is the ONLY thing that has worked for my dry flakes and itchy scalp. For some reason at the end of last summer I started noticing flakes in my hair and that my scalp was dry and itchy. It gradually got to the point where I had these scabby spots of dead skin on my scalp and when I scratched them more flakes would come off. It was horrible. So I tried Head and Shoulders Dandruff Shampoo for Dry Scalp and it made my thin, fine hair SO greasy and disgusting it was as if I had washed my hair with butter. I even tried to use a clarifying shampoo before each use and it still made my hair feel beyond gross. I also tried Garnier Fructis Dandruff Shampoo and it also made my hair greasy and weighed it down and yet did absolutely nothing for the flakes. Then I tried Giovanni Tea Tree Triple Treat Shampoo and although it smelled great and was sulfate free, it dried out my hair and, again, did not help the flakes. So after reading all the great reviews about Nizoral on MU I decided to give it a go despite it being a bit pricey. I followed the directions and used it every 4 days. Within two weeks the flakes were GONE, the itchiness was gone and two months later neither have returned! It also didn't make my hair greasy at all. It was drying, but not that much more than the tea tree oil shampoo and since you are not supposed to use it every day it wasn't a big deal. I am sooo happy to finally be flake free after all this time and this shampoo has definitely reached HG status with me. Absolutely worth the price.

Eyeliner -E.L.F. - Liquid Eyeliner - Black

This is the worst liquid liner I have ever used, hands down. EXTREMELY watery. I may as well be lining my eyes with watercolors. I even tried multiple coats and it did nothing to help. The only good thing about it is it easily came off with just water, although that probably says a lot about it's staying power of which it must have none. Thank goodness it was only a dollar. I might try out their creme eyeliner as it has much better reviews, but when it comes to liquid liners I will be sticking to Maybelline Ultra Liner which is much better and not all that more expensive.

Shampoo -Aussie - Moist Shampoo

Thank you, thank you, thank you MUA'ers for leading me to this shampoo! I've been on the hunt for a great shampoo for my cruddy hair type for what seems like forever. I have thin, fine, dry hair but since it is so thin it also get oily at the roots fairly quickly so I have to wash it everyday. I also was getting dry flakes on my scalp. Any shampoos that claim to be moisturizing usually end up weighing my hair down and making my roots greasy, but non-moisturizing shampoos would leave my hair dry and frizzy. After seeing the reviews for this product I decided to try it and I am SO glad I did. Not only was it cheaper than the other shampoos I've tried, but it blew them out of the water. I saw a difference immediately. My hair is so soft to the touch now, seems fuller, shinier, and even has a bit of bounce to it! Amazing! Even the dry flakes have almost disappeared and that is something even the Garnier Dry Scalp dandruff shampoo couldn't do. My hair hasn't felt this great in years. I am beyond happy with this shampoo and it is definitely HG status for me now. Thanks again MUA! Edit: Okay, had to take off a lippie cause after two weeks my dry, itchy, flaky scalp came back with a vengeance and is now worse than ever. Might have to switch to a SLS-free shampoo and see if that helps. Still would recommend this shampoo to someone with a normal scalp. :)

Concealers -Almay - Clear Complexion Blemish Healing Spot Concealer

I have spent over $100 on different concealers trying to find one that covers pimples and especially the PIH scars they give me and I always end up returning to this tried and true favorite. It has great coverage and not too cakey. I also love that it is yellow based rather than pink based like many other concealers, since I have golden undertones. It would be nice if there were more of a color range, but I have found that a mixture of light and light/medium matches my skin very well. It's so cheap that it's no problem having to buy two tubes at once to match my shade. The only downside is that since I have started using Retin A, the salicylic acid in it now causes me to flake. If Almay made a concealer exactly like this without the SA it would be my HG for sure. Because of the SA I would not recommend using it for undereye circles, but for pimple and scar coverage it is great.

Treatments -Neostrata - HQ Skin Lightening Gel

I bought this product last year for post inflammatory hyperpigmentation caused by acne. I am unlucky in that every single pimple I get leaves me with a PIH scar that lasts for several months, if not longer. I stopped using it after a few days cause it was just too sticky. I used Phyto + instead which is good, but not as strong as hydroquinone. So I decided recently to try this product again and used it for a couple of weeks. Then I started breaking out and in the same places I was applying it so I came to MU to see if others have broken out using this product and lo and behold --I am not the only one. I was worried that my skin had grown tolerant to the Retin A I've been using and was thinking I'd have to increase the strength, but now I think it might be this product and will stop using it ASAP! It really sucks cause I used this serum to lighten PIH scars and now I have a lot more DUE to this product. Big mistake on my part. So if you have sensitive or acne prone skin--stay away!

Concealers -Maybelline - Superstay

When I first put this on I thought I had found my HG concealer. My hyperpigmentation scars were covered and my skin looked flawless. Then l looked at my face in a lighted mirror and the truth was revealed: not only was it super cakey, but it seemed to settle into every single pore and made them look HUGE. It looked even worse in the sunlight. It's also pretty hard to work with as it dries super fast. Plus, they only have 4 shades to choose from. I'm still using it to offset the dark yellow of the Mary Kay concealer I recently bought in my ongoing quest for the perfect concealer, but even combined with that it still sinks into my pores. I really wanted to like this concealer, but I definitely won't be buying it again.

Lotions/ Creams -St. Ives - Whipped Silk Body Moisturizer [DISCONTINUED]
starlys 3/17/2010 9:56:00 PM
I thought I'd try out this lotion because of the great reviews it's gotten on MU. I will totally agree that it is light, non-greasy and fast absorbing. That being said, it does NOTHING for my dry skin. After about an hour my skin felt dry again, and by the end of the day my skin was not only dry, but itchy as well. Maybe I just have super dry skin, but this lotion is not for me. I will probably go back to St. Ives Collagen & Elastin lotion which I was using before and is pretty decent.
