Oh wow, I'm another one guilty of buying $33 Lancome makeup removers when really, the best one was squirreling away in my bathroom drawer. I recently purchased my first waterproof mascara.. and for the first time, my Marcelle makeup remover couldn't get it off, not without me rubbing and rubbing at my eyes, and seriously, who wants that? This doesn't irritate my eyes and takes off all makeup quickly and effortlessly. Lovelovelove.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Stilife Paint
rated 4 of 5
stardivina14 8/4/2007 2:00:00 PM

You really have to squeeze the tube before anything comes out in the beginning, lol, and the tube is pretty stiff! On my NC30 skin, Stilife shows up as icy champagne shimmer (there's hardly any colour, but you can build with this). I layer it with Ricepaper because Ricepaper didn't really show up on me, but with this, it gives me a pretty champagne colour. I use it on its own when I want a simple wash of shimmer on my more natural days. It's a nice thing to have, but I don't think it's worth $20. I do want to try other colours of the MAC paint line.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Steamy
rated 5 of 5

The colour description karmacat gave is the exact same as mine (blue green with a bit of golden shimmer) This shows up more as a mint green on me (I'm NC30 for reference). The MA suggested I wear this in the outer corner of my eye, so I blend this with Ricepaper (a champagne neutral) when I feel more colourful. For a subtle look, I line my upper and lower lash line with this, and it really makes my brown eyes stand out. Will repurchase again =)

Eye Shadow -MAC - Deep Truth
rated 5 of 5
stardivina14 7/31/2007 8:07:00 PM

"Very real truthful dark blue" is the perfect description. It's a vivid dark blue (frost finish) that I use as a liner. This is would work well in a smokey eye look. I can pair it with whatever eyeshadow I'm wearing that day. I use an angled brush to sweep it across my upper lash line. Without dipping it again, I draw it across half my bottom lash line for a subtle shadow. Then I blend it with a soft brush. It makes my brown asian eyes pop and look bigger and my lashes look thicker. I will definitely repurchase =)

Lip Gloss -MAC - Moonbathe
rated 4 of 5
stardivina14 7/31/2007 7:52:00 PM

This is my first Lipglass, and like the reviewer below, I'm really surprised at how sheer this is. But that's a comfort to me, because it's safer =) I think this is the lipglass version of Wonderstruck. It's quite sticky, has good staying power, and doesn't have the vanilla smell of lustreglasses-- it has no smell at all. The tube is standard MAC, but instead of a black top, it has a white top that has gold iridescent shimmer in it. The brush is the soft doe-tip kind (which I much prefer to the lustreglass brush). A very pretty summery & shimmery peachy pink colour that would look nice on everyone =) I don't think I'll repurchase though, I do like the colour but will probably get Wonderstruck over this (it smells better and is less sticky).

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous Waterproof
rated 2 of 5
stardivina14 7/31/2007 7:47:00 PM

Not too much added volume, does not add much length but it doesn't claim to. It does hold curl quite well due to the higher amout of wax in waterproof mascaras. I tried the washable one awhile ago, but I'm pretty sure it volumized a lot better with this. This tends to clump, and it is nearly impossible to remove. I won't repuchase because it's such a pain to take off. [On a sidenote, I like Full and Soft Washable better than this.. maybe I'm just hopeless at waterproof =)] EDIT: Aha! Vaseline works wonder at taking off any waterproof mascara.. and it's a lot cheaper than buying actual makeup remover =D Still will not repurchase due to clumping factor.

Mascara -Maybelline - Full 'N Soft Mascara
rated 5 of 5
stardivina14 7/31/2007 7:40:00 PM

Claims: "Gives full, soft and thick healthy looking lashes without the brittle feel" Bought: Washable Black and Brownish Black (at different times). I've got naturally black lashes, and both of them look the same on me. It's about $8CAD. Product Description: Fat brush with dense bristles, in a navy blue tube and silver top. The brush doesn't come out clumpy due to the tight tube design. Thickening: Beautifully =) I do use the Shiseido mascara base underneath it now, so that might be maximizing it, but the first few times I bought it, I wore it alone. This is nothing over the top for me, even with the base on, but it gives lovely definition to my eyes =) Lengthening: This is promoted as a volumizing mascara, but it lengthens a fair amount as well. Staying Power: Stays on till the very end of the day, but washes off very easily. Doesn't smudge (I have normal lids though) or flake. Easy to apply to bottom lashes. Verdict? An awesome mascara, I've repurchased a number of times. I wear false lashes daily, but for night I wear this and my falsies = AMAZING. Between this and L'Oreal's Voluminous, I choose this =)

Eye Shadow -MAC - Ricepaper Eyeshadow
rated 3 of 5
stardivina14 7/24/2007 8:28:00 PM

I'm very annoyed at the MA I dealt with at MAC. She was absolutely no help, after I repeatedly asked for a "champagne colour", she pulled out every colour of the rainbow BUT what I was looking for, including dark purples, a black, a navy blue and an olive green. I even gestured to the row of eyeshadows I was looking for: I just wanted to know which one would complement my skin tone the best. I gave up and asked her to just pull out Ricepaper because I remembered reading about it and I wanted to get away from her. So I'm heading back to MAC (a different counter this time) and going to see if an MA can help me find the shade I was looking for, or something to blend overtop of this to make it more of a shimmery champagne. I'll update my review after I make the visit =) UPDATE: So I went to a different counter and came back happy =) The MA layered Retrospeck over it, but I've heard that the glitter really spills all over your eyes, so I went for Stilife paint instead. I now layer it over that paint, and it gives me quite a very pretty shimmery pale gold colour which I love =D I also find that if I wet my eyebrow brush and then use it, the colour payoff is better. (The colour description has been mentioned numerous times so I won't waste your time repeating it =]) The staying power is great as with all MAC e/s, and though the finish is Frost, it's not disgustingly frosty, it's a shimmery finish. Since I don't really fancy it on its own, I won't repurchase, but it's a good natural colour.. just too light for me (NC30)

Misc Beauty Tools -Clean & Clear - Oil Absorbing Sheets
rated 5 of 5
stardivina14 7/24/2007 8:20:00 PM

I've got combo skin (oily on t-zone, normal everywhere else) and I use these midday to keep me looking fresh and not gunky. The packaging's great, the little sticky square on the lid pulls individual sheets out so you don't have to worry about pulling out too many, then forcing them back in. It blots just the oil, and leaves your makeup intact. Perfect! =) Will definitely repurchase, the price isn't too horrendous (around $8CAD I think)

Eyes -Ardell - Fashion Lashes - 102 Demi
rated 3 of 5
stardivina14 7/20/2007 8:53:00 PM

I was looking for an alt to MAC's 7's because I wear false lashes everyday.. I've become pretty pro lol, so it's a lot less hassle than curling my lashes, applying mascara base, then mascara etc. I picked these up at Wal-mart for about $5.00CAD and immediately after coming home, took off my old ones and put these ones on =) I have to admit.. it kinda scared me in the package, and I agree with the reviewer below, I think I'm going to have to trim the last 2/3 sections because they're freakishly long. It looks pretty natural when your looking from the front, but from up top and below, it doesn't, just because of the way the lashes are clumped on the strip. I don't think I'm going to repurchase, they're not for me, I do want to try the other MAC look-alikes (116) though =) Sidenote: All the Ardell lashes are AMAZING, they are extremely easy to apply and take off, they also last a long long time. I wear them everyday, and I can go 2 to 2 1/2 weeks on one pair. =)

Mascara -Unlisted Brand - Ten Mascara-Midnight Blue
rated 1 of 5
stardivina14 7/20/2007 8:38:00 PM

Haha, well I'm glad this was only a dollar. You truly get what you pay for this product. It's worse than Maybelline's Great Lash.. though the tube is SO adorable.. a simple tiny black tube (btw.. i did not get the midnight blue mascara, i got the black one). I had the same result as the reviewer below.. when I first opened the tube, a chunk of mascara fell out =]. This has absolutely no colour payoff, I can't even use this to tint my bottom lashes. Oh well, all in good humour, it WAS a dollar, after all =)

Misc Beauty Tools -Shiseido - Eyelash Curler
rated 5 of 5
stardivina14 5/12/2007 10:42:00 PM

I do love this =) The pad is so much better than the old Revlon one that I had, and I thought the Revlon one was good. This one doesn't open as far as Revlon's, which is what I noticed first. I wasn't used to it and kind of had to wiggle it to get all my lashes in. It left out a couple of lashes at the end.. but the curl really was easy to make. You don't need to press hard for 20 seconds. If anything, you need about 5? I do the thing where you curl at the base, then middle, then at the end of your lashes, and am left with a very pretty curl =D Once you get the hang of it, it's pretty easy to get this to the base of your lashes. Will repurchase the pads when I need to.. does anyone know when the pads do need to be replaced? Oh, and it was about $18CAD for me =)

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Mascara
rated 1 of 5
stardivina14 5/12/2007 10:37:00 PM

Haha, oh dear. Maybelline Great Lash. So I had basically given up on mascaras that had gotton overly fantastic reviews and figured: hey maybe I'm one of the oddballs that find gold in crappy mascaras? So I picked this up at the Superstore (There was a 2 for 1 sale... $4 for 2 tubes, if I remember correctly..), and tried it on. Well.. like everyone else has basically said, this does absolutely nothing but maybe add a bit of colour, which I guess could work for those blessed with AMAZING lashes *bows down* but doesn't work for me. Even with my Shiseido Mascara Base, it looks just okay, if even. I managed to pawn one off to my little sister, who's in that stage where she's just starting to use makeup. It didn't work for her either. The only slight up-side is the brush, which makes it easy to apply mascara to bottom lashes.. but the problem with that is that when I do, it smudges by the end of the day =( So, no repurchase for me.

Eye Makeup Remover -Marcelle - Gentle Makeup Remover for Sensitive Eyes
rated 5 of 5
stardivina14 5/12/2007 10:30:00 PM

EDIT: This is starting to really sting my eyes, though I didn't change the way I used it. I thought maybe the water I was using on the cotton ball was making this seep into my eyes, so I've resorted to just using a dry cotton ball with this =) I had a sample of Lancome's Bi-facil, which is basically the same concept of Marcelle, just a lot more expensive (Around $30-32CAD I think). This takes off makeup quickly, and doesn't leave you feeling oily. As it says in the directions, shake well. I usually wet a cotton ball with warm water, and then turn the bottle over on the cotton, because I find it takes it off quicker. It's fragrance-free (I'm guessing because this is for sensitive eyes?) whereas the Bi-facil smells like a light powdery rose. I found this for $10 at the Superstore (It was on sale) and I think it retails at around $12? You get a 150mL bottle, which is lasting me forever. Definitely a staple and a repurchase =)

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Wonderstruck
rated 5 of 5
stardivina14 5/12/2007 10:24:00 PM

Wonderstruck looks like an absolutely beautiful shade of golden shimmery peachy pink, which I'm sure has been described before. It translates pretty well from tube to lips for me, and warms up my complexion to give me a healthy summery glow. It smells like vanilla, but is not strong enough to be obtrusive. Unlike other glosses (the Maybelline Shinylicious comes to mind), this doesn't feel thick or gloopy on my lips. It's smooth and feels light, yet stays on for quite some time (it's lasted me through meals, and I usually touchup once or twice a day). Price is $16.50CAD, as listed on their website, which is a bit on the higher end for me, but no worries, because it does last a while. The only thing I would change would be the brush. I would much rather the sponge-tip applicator, because I find it easier to apply when your not at a mirror. The little brush is cute though =) Definitely a repurchase for me, though I'm itching to try others and might not come back to it until later on =)
