Liquid -Bourjois - Healthy Mix Serum Gel Foundation
sshirley 9/10/2011 7:09:00 AM
I love this! Having never used the original Healthy Effects, or 10 hour Sleep Effect- I can't say how this compares - but in itself, this is fantastic. Very sheer and glowy finish. Not so sheer that it looks oily- halfway between the flat matte and oily slicky look. It spreads into my skin seamlessly, like other reviewers have said: it looks like you're not wearing any foundation. I apply this with a Sigma Flatop Kabuki. Doesn't oxidise into anything nasty, I wore it for 4 hours without any blotting and touch-up and it sat very nicely. Definitely not a foundation to buy if you're looking for heavy coverage- it's more if you want to even out blotchy skin, large pores or just a bit of ashen deadness. A little pricey for a drugstore (Priceline in Aus. is $32) but having gone high end previously (Clinique, Chanel, Lancome) I definitely say this is worth a spin- totally comparable to the high-end stuff!!!!!

Polishes -Essie - Velvet Voyeur
sshirley 5/31/2011 8:25:00 AM
Incredible! Like a previous reviewer has already said, it is a dupe for OPIs Lincoln Park After Dark, the exception being that the application is soo sooo much better. I find that OPI polishes are quite thick and the darker shakes often very goppy. My Lincoln Park looks horrible on first coat, very streaky which needs a second to make it opaque. Velvet Voyeur on the other hand, is a dream to put on, 2 coats and its jelly smooth prettiness :) The brush is smaller and nimble so good and easy to get the edges. The finish is lovely- a must "basic" colour for any polish collection. Trumps Lincoln Park by far!!

Eyeliner -Avon - SuperShock Gel Eyeliner Pencil
sshirley 5/4/2011 10:51:00 PM
I love this, the texture of this is incredible- no pulling AT ALL, just glides across your lid. The finish is very lovely, not "shiny" as you'd think of a gel, it looks more creamy: similar to the Clinique creme liner. Am now using this in place of all gel/cream liners, so much easier and a lot quicker than getting out the liner brush and dipping it into pots. Highly recommend this as a substitute for gel/cream liners- not really as a "smudgy" kohl look- this is more a defined lining product. The colour is INTENSELY black. Very beautiful. The only small small small drawback is that it does require a lot of sharpening, but totally negligible. Use this as the much better go-to for MAC Black Track, Clinique Creme Liner and Bobbi Brown Gel. It gives the same result, only faster, easier and cheaper :)

Polishes -OPI - nailpolish in Kennebunk-Port

I ABSOLUTELY ADORE THIS. Perfect shade of red, very classic and classy. I've found red nail polish to be a bit garish and unflattering on my pale skin but this is classic blue-red- very Hollywood glam and perfect all year round as a fail safe all season and trend colour. Must buy - the only nail colour you'll ever need.

Bronzers -Too Faced - Snow Bunny
sshirley 10/23/2010 9:34:00 PM
I bought this in Sephora when I was in the US in the new pretty silver packaging. Have to say that what first drew me to this was the great compact. Very handy and doesn't crack when you carry it around. Absolutely love it. It's very light, I'm a pale NW15-20 and it just does wonders. Very subtle, in NO WAY orange/muddy or horrible like almost every other bronzer out there. It is a "luminous" kind of bronzer though so will accentuate pores etc, so don't buy this if you're looking for a "tanning/go darker" effect. It just really brightens up my face and is overall very lovely and glowy. I just use a big bronzer/powder brush, give it a swirl over all the colours and away I go. Only thing would be not to use too much- can have a frosty effect. Other than that, lasts for ever. Really really like this!

Polishes -Essie - Tart Deco
sshirley 10/23/2010 9:28:00 PM
I don't really understand the bad reviews for this product. I bought it yesterday without having read anything about it, and haven't found any of the described problems. The formula is admittedly a ittle hard to master, I find that "laying on thick" really helps with the complaints of streakiness. Two thicker than usual coats really helps. The good thing about Essie is that the streaks actually even themselves out upon drying, weird but true! Just give the bottle a really good shake before application. The colour I found, unlike all the other reviews of this- didn't change for me. It stayed the true sorbet salmon peach- exactly like the bottle (I used a Natio topcoat) Overall, the colour's very unique and pretty, the consistency and jelly like tone very lovely:) The only downside is that its AU$18.95 from Myer so am reluctant to purchase again.

Mascara -Max Factor - Masterpiece Max
sshirley 5/16/2010 3:51:00 AM
ABSOLUTELY BRILLIANT. Much better than raved about other HG mascaras- both high and low brand: Dior Show, Lancome Hypnose, Clinique High Impact and any and all Maybelline cult faves. I have tried all of them and none of them compare to this....it is fabulous. The rubber brush is surprisingly volumising! Only qualms and loss of lipstick is the every so slightly "chalky" consistency of the mixture. Wish it was more luxurious and creamy...but seriously, not a big issue. This will be my go to mascara. It is amazing. I will never buy anything else again.

Skincare - Face -Trilogy - Rosehip Oil
sshirley 2/25/2010 7:33:00 AM
Great! Have been using it for a week and can actually notice a "glow" and evening out of marks developed from squeezing oily pores/whiteheads/blackheads. Have pretty oily skin, but this surprisingly sinks in very well and doesn't leave a film of any kind on the skin surface. Live in Sydney and bought this for $20 bucks from Priceline so very affordable- turned to this after reading that rosehip is a cult product for many, including Miranda Kerr who has introduced a ridiculously priced bottle in her skincare range, haven't tried hers but VERY happy with this Trilogy version. It has quite a nice, mossy gentle smell to. Great packaging. HIGHLY RECOMMENDED

Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
sshirley 11/13/2009 1:05:00 AM
This is a great moisturiser for oily skin- my pores always exude a shiny layer of thin grease by mid-day and nothing i've ever tried is able to control this. Blotting tissues really arent much help because the grease just returns. It's very fresh, thin and does control oil. The smell is rather nice, muted like all Clinique products. Isnt drying though which is what i find with other oil control products, leaves face nice and supple with a soft glow. Definitely give this a go, its excellent

Blush -Max Factor - Miracle Touch Creamy Blush
sshirley 11/2/2009 1:36:00 AM
Really love this, have this in the soft pink and is the most natural and flattering pinky ever on my rather pale yellow toned Asian skin. Really pretty and the best thing about it is that it doesnt have any of the annoying shimmer/glittery bits that you often get in cream/mousse blush. Very nice finish, easy to put on once you get the hang of cream blushes and overall great! Dont be fooled by the small packaging- last ages and a little goes a long way.

Eyeliner -Clinique - Brush-on cream liner in TRUE BLACK
sshirley 10/13/2009 4:41:00 AM
BEST EYELINER EVER. Excellent pigmentation, a very rich black which stays for the entire day. The best thing about this however is the texture- not too liquidy (which I find to be the problem for most liquid/creme liners) but not too gooey either so application is very easy. Staying power is excellent- doesnt come off at all during the day/rain/oily lids- without being drying. Really really love this, am on to my 3rd tub (and these babies last a very long time). Only complaint is the idiot small brush it comes with- isnt great for application so would recommend using another eyeliner brush for this.

Lipstick -Revlon - Revlon Matte-Pink Pout
sshirley 10/13/2009 4:35:00 AM
Really didnt like this lipstick. The colour is not actually a nice muted pink but like others have mentioned- lilac/purply, which on a cool skin tone like mine looks a bit death-ish/unhealthy. The colour is very difficult to show, so many layers are required and the textue is rather drying- actually found it to cause the dreaded rings of skin on lips after a few hours. Overall, very disappointing shade and really didn't satisfy my whole "nude pink" wishes. EDIT: realise that this matte lipstick works great when a nice oily balm is used underneath and looks very pretty when teamed with lots of bronzer. So fairly pleased with this shade- just realised that I didn't know how to use it properly before.

Bronzers -Revlon - Beyond Natural Blush & Bronzer
sshirley 8/29/2009 8:35:00 AM
This is a nice product, really very subtle- so the bronzing effect is rather minimal so saves from the potential common dangers of orange/mudiness of bronzers. This advantage is also is drawback, I find that it is perhaps a little TOO subtle and it almost feels like that there is nothing there and its too "natural". I have it pink rose and wish that it wasn't so subtle to the point of perhaps dull? So I sweep on quite a few layers. Other than that, totally fool-proof and really good for bronzer first timers because its really easy to use! Buy if you're looking for a very laid back glow.
