Mascara -FairyDrops - Scandal Queen Mascara

I wanted to wait until I've used this mascara for at least a month before doing a review simply because I HATE it when the mascara performance goes down after only a few weeks. Just a short background. Three months ago, I finally got my lash extensions removed after wearing them for a year. Sadly, I was left with short stumpy lashes. For the next four weeks, I babied my lashes, conditioning them, not wearing mascara or curling them at all. Finally, they were at a decent length and volume, though still shorter and thinner than my pre-lash extension days. At that point I decided to get a lash perm because using a lash curler would always pull my lashes. And this is where the Fairydrops mascara comes in... I got it at Sephora because my sister strongly recommended it especially given my situation. And I'm so glad I got it because it gave me full, long and very dramatic lashes! I was so amazed. I can't really comment on how it holds a curl because of my lashes are permed but this mascara really gave me some serious length and volume. I didn't get any clumps at all the first two weeks I got it but at the third week, it started to get just a little bit thicker and I do get small clumps. But nothing a lash comb can't handle. It's been five weeks now since I got the mascara and do far it's not drying out yet. My lashes have now gone back to its normal length and volume so when I wear this mascara now, it's even more dramatic. So dramatic that my husband actually asked me if I went back to lash extensions! (YAY!!!) Even my friend asked me the same when I saw her. I bought this for $24 which is pretty expensive for a mascara. So I'm really hoping it doesn't dry out for quite a while. I apply it simply by doing a careful swipe twice. Sometimes I wiggle the wand if I want more volume. Removal is a little cumbersome. I use makeup remover then my oil cleanser to remove. If this tube doesn't dry out for a while, then I would definitely repurchase.

Mascara -Clinique - High Impact Curling Mascara
rated 5 of 5

This is absolutely my favorite mascara. My sister initially recommended this mascara to me after I noticed how long her lashes looked. I bought it when it first came out and I HATED IT. It was clumpy and very messy. In general, I normally go for tubing mascaras simply because I have less lash fallout than regular mascaras. Maybe it's because I don't have to tug and pull to remove tubing mascaras. Just wash off with warm water. Not wanting to give up, I tried this mascara again and applied with a light hand. WOW. Long lashes with a slight oomph. I've tried other tubing mascaras before and this one gives the most dramatic effect. The others were just too natural for me. With this one, your lashes are more noticeable. I did notice that you have to wipe the wand first before applying. Another thing I love about this mascara is that the tube lasts for a long time. I strayed and bought Kevyn Aucion's Volume mascara (another tubing) and while it gave me gorgeous lashes, the tube started drying out in two weeks. And KA mascara cost $24!!! Clinique's Curling High Impact is ten dollars cheaper and lasts longer. I replace my tube every 3 months but a tube probably lasts longer than that. Hence, I've been using this mascara for a little over a year. The beauty about it is that it seems like they changed their formula. It's not as messy to apply and requires less blotting on tissue. I hope that Clinique never discontinues this gem because this is my absolute HG.

Makeup Brushes -Ulta - Professional Series Stippling Brush
rated 5 of 5

UGH! I'm so mad I bought this AFTER forking over $42 bucks for the famous MAC 187. Don't get me wrong. The MAC 187 is a great brush, but not for stippling foundation. I found the bristles on the MAC 187 a little too soft to really buff the liquid foundation in. I end up with a lot of streaks that I need to fix. This, however, is PERFECT. Same concept as the MAC 187, but the bristles are more dense and a little bit firmer. And it makes stippling liquid foundation so much easier and better. Less streaking for me with the Ulta brush. I actually gave my MAC 187 away to my sister because it's just taking room in my bag.

Makeup Brushes -Everyday Minerals - New Flat Top Brush
rated 2 of 5

I don't understand the great reviews for this brush. I bought it mainly for my mineral foundation and thought it was doing a pretty decent job. It wasn't until I had to go back to the BE flawless face brush (after washing this brush and waiting for it to dry) that I realized just how bad of a brush this is for mineral foundation. True, this bristles on this brush are way softer and provides a more comfortable application compared to the rough bristles of BE's brushes. BUT, I found that my foundation did not last as long when applied with this brush. I feel like the powder is just sitting on top of my skin. At least with BE's flawless face brush, the powder is buffed right on my skin so it lasts all day. I since then moved on to Laura Mercier's mineral foundation and use her brush as well. It's also as rough as BE's brush, but at least the makeup stays put. As for this flat top brush. It's just sitting in my makeup bag. If anyone wants it, let me know.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Black Out Mascara
rated 4 of 5

Love love love this product! I was a little turned off by the big brush, but really, all it takes is a light hand when applying, and viola! BEAUTIFUL LASHES! Granted it takes me a little bit longer to apply mascara because my lashes does end up sticking together (easily remedied with a lash comb), but the overall effect is definitely worth it. I love its lasting power. After a long day at work, I go home, and my lashes still look like I've just applied mascara. With other mascaras, my lashes always look like twigs at the end of the day. I'm taking one lippie of because it does smudge a tiny bit. That's why I'm trying out the Diorshow Waterproof for my trip in Asia. We'll see how that goes.

Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Mascara Base [DISCONTINUED]
rated 3 of 5
souplada79 12/31/2007 2:32:00 PM

I actually LOVED this product when I started using it a year ago. It gave me full lashes that I didn't even realize I had. I'm on my second tube and lately, it's been causing me clumps. At first I thought it was my mascara and so have been switching to different brands, but one day, I decided to skip the mascara base and go for the Ardell lash accelerator and the clumps were gone. I hate how a lot of the product goes in the brush. I hate having to scrape it off every time I use it. Also, I noticed that my lashes started to fall out more. During my pre-Shiseido Mascara Base days, I only have one lash that falls out. Now it's three to four a day. I stopped using it until all my lashes grew back. Now they're long and healthy again and my tube is just sitting on makeup drawer. If you want full and long lashes at the expense of your lashes' health, then go for this one. Personally, I'd rather have healthy lashes than risk having them all fall off.

Misc Beauty Tools -Tweezerman - Metal Eye Lash Comb
rated 5 of 5
souplada79 1/19/2007 3:42:00 PM

YAY! Goodbye bad lash days! After using this, I don't think I can ever go back to using those plastic ones. I don't think I've ever been happy with the way my eyelashes look. I can pretty much use any clumpy mascara and this would work magic. It really separates lashes well and removes any excess mascara you have. Normally, with a plastic comb, it would take me forever to remove clumps. One or two swipes of this comb and I'm clump-free! You do have to be careful though because the ends of the comb are pretty sharp.

Mascara -Rimmel - Lycra Lash Extender
rated 4 of 5
souplada79 1/15/2007 5:56:00 PM

I paired this with my Shiseido mascara base and whoa...long lashes with oomph. On it's own, it did extend my lashes but not dramatic enough for me. The brush looked very weird but I was surprised that I didn't get a lot of clumps (some, but not a lot). Lasting power was also good. Better than the Clinique one's I've tried. If I want an even more dramatic look, I use Shiseido mascara base, then this, then L'Oreal's Voluminous. The effect is awesome!

Scrubs -Origins - Modern Friction
rated 5 of 5
souplada79 12/11/2006 5:43:00 PM

Love this product! I got this as a sample from an Origins store and the SA also provided a demonstration on my hand and I noticed how soft my skin felt. After trying the sample a few times, I noticed my skin was a lot softer and glowing. My sister would ask me if I had just woken up. I also had these red spotches on my cheeks that is starting to fade and I find that I don't have to wear as much makeup anymore. It's pretty expensive ($35!) but well worth it to me since it lasts for so long. I've already been using it for more than three months and I haven't even used up a quarter of the product. Be sure not to open your eyes when rinsing or it will sting.

Mascara -Clinique - high definition lashes
rated 5 of 5
souplada79 12/6/2006 10:49:00 AM

To be honest, I just found this website a few months ago and have been lurking in the reviews section. I too have been on a quest to find my HG mascara and I think this is it. I've bought Origins Full Story, Bourjois Yes to Volume No to Clumps, Trucco In Focus, Cover Girl Lash Exact and Volume Exact, Lorac Lotsa Lash (do not buy this!) and a couple of Maybelline products but was never happy with any of them. I have decent lashes but but wanted something that lengthens and volumizes. This does both for me. This was recommended by an SA in Sephora and I'm absolutely happy with it. No clumps or smudges and it builds well. I find that I don't really need to use a lash comb with this. The brush part gives me length and the comb part gives me volume. Love it! I use it with my Ardell Brow and Lash Growth Accelerator and now I look like I'm wearing falsies! I've also tried Clinique's High Impact but it was a bit too dry for me.
