Fragrances -Avon - In Bloom by Reese Witherspoon
rated 3 of 5
soandso 8/14/2010 11:25:00 AM

I received a sample from my Avon rep to try of "In Bloom: Reese Witherspoon." The packaging looked a little bland and not at all like I would relate it to the spokeswoman for the fragrance. The fragrance definitely hit me like a flower bouquet. My husband said it was "Flowery. It's okay." If someone gave me a bottle I'd be happy, but I just don't think I would spend the money on it. Maybe in a couple of years when it goes on clearance!

Lip Gloss -Burt's Bees - Super Shiny in NECTAR NUDE
rated 3 of 5
soandso 7/5/2008 1:28:00 PM

I love Burt's Bees and I am rarely disappointed with their products, but the Super Shiny line slips off your lips in minutes. They feel moisturized for about three to four minutes and then voila... you need to apply more. I like the tube and applicator, though it was harder to squeeze than most, and the color is gorgeous. The smell was pretty good, but it does smell is so citrusy that you'd think they would flavor it. I'd skip it at $6 though. Nice this once, but I wouldn't buy it again.

Skincare - Body -Avon - Planet Spa African Shea Butter Brown Sugar Scrub
rated 3 of 5

A little more scrub, a little less scent sums it up fairly well. The scent is pleasant, but too sweet. The scrub particles were very small and I don't feel like I was exfoliated very well. My skin felt oily, not moisturized, after I used it. I wouldn't scream, "Stay away," or anything, but I would maybe only buy it if it was on sale. Happy scrubbing!

Lotions/ Creams -Burt's Bees - Milk & Honey Body Lotion
rated 3 of 5

Let me clarify... I would buy this product again if it was on sale or if I got it as a gift. The scent is really heavy and the color looks like, well, spoiled milk and honey. It does a good job moisturizing, like most of the Burt's line. It does leave a bit of a greasy film on your hands, but overall it's nice. It's just getting past the sticky-sweet smell...

Lips -Sally Hansen - Natural Butter Lip Shimmer
rated 3 of 5
soandso 4/27/2008 10:55:00 AM

I have to say I like the natural butter lip shine better than the lip shimmer, but this one is a winner in my book. It didn't melt after keeping it in my pocket all day, it has a pleasant scent, and the "Nude" color is gorgeous on most skin tones. It has a bit of a grit to it, likely the mica, but it moisturizes fairly well and stays on fairly well. I found a 2-for-1 deal on the "natural butter" line, so I tried both the shine and the shimmer. Go for the shine, but if you catch a deal, try the shimmer.

Eye Shadow -Physicians Formula - Virtual Eyes Eye Gloss- Up in the Clouds
rated 4 of 5
soandso 4/27/2008 10:51:00 AM

I have been finding the PF Virtual Eyes line at the Dollar Tree, which is bonus #1. Bonus #2 is that "Up In the Clouds" is awesome! I do prefer the powder, even though it's messier to apply. Honestly, I just use my finger to get a great brow ridge highlight that always gives that professional touch to my makeup application. Whenever I use this one as a highlighter, I always get the compliment of, "Your makeup looks so pretty today." That's worth the dollar you spend on it. Homerun for P.F. on this line. I'd certainly buy again.

Mascara -Avon - superSHOCK Mascara
rated 3 of 5
soandso 4/27/2008 10:46:00 AM

This is a decent lengthening mascara. I haven't had too much trouble with clumping, but the brush is so large and "prickly" that I have poked myself in the eye several times with the brush. With several coats you can get your eyelashes really long. Another reviewer said "scary eyes," which I agree with if you use too much. You can certainly get the vamp-eye look with superSHOCK mascara. I prefer the brown/black to black, as it's not quite the vamp look. I would certainly buy it again if it was on a deep discount sale.

Powder -Jane - Be Pure Mineral Makeup with *Puff attached*
rated 1 of 5
soandso 4/27/2008 10:33:00 AM

This product is great IF you like beating yourself in the face to get the powder to come out. My skin is all orange and blotchy after pounding the face powder out of the "handy puff dispenser". If I had the receipt, this would be going back to the store. My best bet is to pry the top off and use a good powder foundation brush to see if coverage can go on any smoother. I'd use a different brand. Jane is usually a really fun drugstore brand, but this one is a dud. Sorry, Jane.

Fragrances -Avon - Petal by Cynthia Rowley
rated 2 of 5
soandso 4/24/2008 1:11:00 PM

Petal reminds me of Love's Baby Soft meets citrus oils. It's not a bad smell and it's certainly light, which you need in a spring fragrance. It has decent staying power. I keep smelling the sweet/citrusy notes over the others. If a tiny purse spray came out for $5 I would buy it as a change-up for my regular favorites, but I don't think it "hit me" enough so that I'd drop the dough on a full-sized bottle.

Lip Treatments -Sally Hansen - Beyond Perfect Collagen Lip Lift in Sheer Soothing Spice
rated 2 of 5
soandso 4/24/2008 9:05:00 AM

The bonus on this item was the price. I happened to find a new package at the Dollar Tree, making me more courageous to try the product. The benefits of this product are the sheer color, which is complimentary to most skin tones, and how nice it feels while it is on. It has a decent smell with a miniscule hint of sweetness, which is also nice. The problem is that while it's nice while it's on, it doesn't stay on. If you drink or eat anything or rub your lips too much, prepare to reapply frequently. I've had this lip tube for a grand total of three weeks and it's over half gone. If you want a nice, emollient feeling right before bed or if you don't plan on moving your mouth for a while, grab it if it's on discount. If you're paying full price or you actually use your mouth, skip it.

Lotions/ Creams -Unlisted Brand - Cococare Cocoa Butter Cream
rated 4 of 5
soandso 4/21/2008 5:25:00 PM

This product is my guilty beauty pleasure. Granted it has mineral oil, propylene glycol, and a few other things I try to avoid, but DANG if it doesn't keep me moisturized, smell great, and is budget-friendly. I usually pick up tubs or tubes of this at the African-American-focused beauty supply stores in the area. I use it any time I need moisture, but especially after showers or baths. The smell is fantastic and for a huge tub (2x the size of Body Shop body butter tin or more), I only pay about $4. Tried and true, "The Yellow One" will probably stay around our house. Hubby uses this one, too, which is rare at our place! It's a keeper.

Lip Gloss -mark - Glow Baby Glow Hook-Up Lip Gloss
rated 5 of 5
soandso 4/21/2008 5:19:00 PM

Glow Baby Glow is, hands down, my favorite mark lip color product. The minty smell is great, it looks good on everyone's skin tone, it adds a hint of sparkle that can double at work and at play, and it's relatively inexpensive at about $5 per hook-up vial. Give this one a try!

Lip Gloss -Sally Hansen - Natural Butter Lip Shine - Fresh
rated 4 of 5
soandso 4/21/2008 5:15:00 PM

Joy! I loved the packaging, which is honestly why I bought it in the first place. Partially recyclable is always a bonus. But then I actually tried it... double joy! I love this gloss. It stayed on my lips for over an hour-and-a-half, which is a long time in gloss-land. The "Fresh" color is fantastic, too. It's subtle, actually more clear than color, and looks great with smokey eyes for a "French" look. The taste is really nice, too. Very kiwi or berry-ish. I'll definitely be buying this again!

Lipstick -mark - Gleamstick in Flirtatious
rated 2 of 5
soandso 4/21/2008 5:12:00 PM

The color is great and it's a nice, glossy finish that looks good with a lot of skin tones. My major problem? You barely get anything for $5-6! Gleamsticks are .9 grams, whereas the Glow Baby Glow is 3.5 grams per tube. You're getting suckered out of cash if you go for Gleamsticks. Hit up the other hook-ups instead.

Gels/Soaps -Burt's Bees - Citrus & Ginger Root Body Wash
rated 5 of 5
soandso 4/13/2008 9:10:00 AM

I am ALL OVER this product, or rather it's all over me, all the time. It doesn't "suds" like a lot of shower gels without a pouf (no sodium laureth sulfate) but that's what makes it nice. It's thick and feels lavish to me, with a scent that perks me up in the morning. (I don't use poufs because they don't bio-degrade and they mold quickly.) It washes well with water, meaning you don't have to work at it to get it to wash off, like some gels. The packaging recycles well and the product size (full size) lasts for a very long time. I will definitely be buying this again!
