Eye Shadow -MAC - Grain
rated 4 of 5
slivola 7/5/2012 12:26:00 AM

I wasn't sure about Grain at almost returned it, but I'm so glad I didn't. I have pale, yellow toned skin (pics in profile) and brown eyes and I was looking for more neutral less shimmery shadows instead of my usual rubenesque p/p or mac tweet me metallic e/s. Everytime I tried grain on my lid, it turned like a cool toned pale pink on me and I have warm tones in my skin so I didn't find it very flattering. But then I tried layering on top of a more intense shimmery color (like amber lights) and it really toned it down, took away some of the orange and metallic to make it a more neutral everyday color. I also wear it over an apricot lid color like arena if I want to have a little bit of pink undertones that still flatter my skin tone.

Cleansers -Aveeno - Clear Complexion Cleansing Pads
rated 2 of 5
slivola 4/27/2012 12:49:00 PM

The SA in these pads dried out my skin too much and irritated my break outs. I finally figured out that I needed to use a more gentle cleanser and just witch hazel for a toner and then save the chemicals (like BP) for the lotion. I switched to Aveeno's positively radiant cleansing pads and my skin cleared up!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Arena
rated 5 of 5
slivola 4/26/2012 7:39:00 PM

I have recently decided to move towards more natural looking eyeshadows rather than very frosty or glittery shadows as I am now in my early 40s. I have fair yellow toned skin, brown eyes, red hair. I was wearing mac rubenesque paint pot on the lids, a touch of mac all that glitters in the center of the lid to brighten it up, and ricepaper as highlighter. I have replaced rubenesque with arena for a more natural apricot look on my lids. I apply it rather liberally. Then I add a touch of Mac Grain e/s in the center of the lid to brighten it up the way I used to with All that Glitters. I still use ricepaper to highlight and I add Mac forever green e/l for a natural daytime look.

Treatments -Aveda - Color Conserve Daily Color Protect
rated 5 of 5
slivola 3/30/2012 9:11:00 PM

This is the leave in that I've been looking for!! It's not heavy or greasy and leaves hair soft and bouncy looking. It would be good even if you don't have colored hair. I have curly 3a hair and it makes my curls rounder and fuller and even gives me a little root lift. I use about a pea size on my hair that is back of bra strap length when wet. I also use a dab on this as a finisher on dry hair to define some sections of curls that still need a little more definition after I diffuse. I also like it on day 2 hair when I need to refresh my hair with a little water. Works well on dry hair with no sticky or producty residue. LOVE!!

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous False Fiber Lashes~Waterproof
rated 5 of 5
slivola 3/9/2012 12:25:00 AM

I love, love, love this mascara. I had been using the voluminous original waterproof which was the best DS one I could fine for my thin lashes than don't curl, even with an eyelash curler! This mascara is amazing! Never clumps on me, makes eyelashes look thicker, longer and curled. My new HG. The only other mascara I could compare this to is YSL's faux cils which costs over $30!

Eye Shadow -MAC - AMBER LIGHTS
rated 5 of 5
slivola 2/29/2012 1:05:00 PM

I love this color! I have fair, yellow toned skin, brown eyes and bright coppery red hair (at the moment!) Amber lights is beautiful on the lids paired with ricepaper as a highlight and inner corners. For everyday use, I use it in my crease and/or over v, and the put rubenesque on my lid. My new discovery for a more subdued work look yet still wearing amber lights on my lid is to then put grain over it and blend well It really tones down the intensity and the shimmer and adds a touch of peachy hue to it.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lustreglass - Lustrewhite
rated 5 of 5
slivola 12/5/2011 5:29:00 PM

I love this lipgloss! It's clear with just a touch of sparkle but not glittery or over the top- good for the office or an evening out. Also works great over lipsticks to give them a gloss look but with the staying power of a lipstick. So instead of trying to find a gloss in your perfect color, just add this to your lipstick... or wear alone for a beautiful and natural look.

Cleansers -Aveeno - Positively Radiant Cleansing Pads
rated 5 of 5
slivola 11/28/2011 1:47:00 PM

I love these pads! I have acne prone skin and had been using the aveeno clear complexion pads which really dried out my skin. I'm so happy I switched to this line instead. Now I rarely breakout and my skin looks much more even. So happy! I wish they sold refills instead of a whole new container, but now I save them for a local preschool to use for projects so I don't feel badly about the packaging anymore . They are also good for recycling- the bottom part is a pet 2.

Powder -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Mineral Loose Powder
rated 2 of 5
slivola 5/25/2011 3:06:00 PM

I wasn't crazy about this line. I did combine two colors in a different container to get my perfect shade and then I used my own brush because the one that comes with it is really rough. But what I didn't like was how many times a day I needed to reapply- I was shinier than usual. By the end of the day, I had power build up in my smile lines- ugh! I have happily switched to proactiv's mineral wear line of powders and am loving them. Their loose powder is nice but VERY expensive for the tiny amount you get, so I switched to their pressed mineral powder foundation and I just apply that with a powder brush instead of a powder puff/sponge. I have beautiful results and never get the build up in my lines.

Styling Products -Aveda - Light Elements Defining Whip
rated 5 of 5
slivola 3/24/2011 11:52:00 PM

Love, love, love this product. I think I'm addicted to aveda! I don't agree with other reviewers who said this has no hold- it does have some light hold which is why I like it. It also adds some nice texture, fullness and boosts my curls. I prefer to use it on wet hair (I have 3a curly long hair). I start off with my leave in, then add a dime size of aveda's be curly style prep and comb through, and then I take just a dab of this defining whip (just enough to coat my finger) and I emulsify it and mix it together with one pump of aveda's phomollient (foaming product). I concentrate that defining whip/phomollient combo on my roots while hair is flipped upside down, then repeat one dab defining whip mixed with another phomollient pump and distribute that on the outer shaft of my hair. Diffuse and beautiful curls. Sometimes I'll also use a dab of the defining whip mixed with one spray of a shine serum on dry hair for finishing (or the aveda texturizing cream instead). I also love it on day 2 hair either by itself or combined with the phomollient on lightly misted hair & diffuse.

Styling Products -Redken - Fresh Curls scrunch gel
rated 2 of 5
slivola 3/13/2011 1:51:00 AM

I went back and forth with this product for a day 2 refresher. I would spray a few pumps into my hands and distribute onto my hair. Did enhance curl and add texture but would leave it crunchy unless I diffused after refreshing. Also felt very waxy and product-y. I finally discovered aveda and said goodbye to my on again off again relationship with redken.

Lotions/ Creams -The Body Shop - Body Butter - Cocoa Butter
rated 4 of 5
slivola 2/3/2011 6:40:00 PM

Fabulous body butter. Very rich and moisturizing- perfect for dry skin. It really has a lot of cocoa butter in it, too, not just a little for fragrance purposes (like palmers cocoa butter). I used this on my belly every night when I was pregnant and I didn't get any stretch marks. I think part of it is thanks to this lotion! If it didn't have parabens in it, it would be perfect (I inquired about that "unnatural" ingredient and TBS says the parabens are "minimal"). So one lippie off for that.

Styling Products -Aveda - Be Curly Style Prep
rated 5 of 5
slivola 2/2/2011 11:57:00 PM

Amazing and newest product from Aveda for curly and wavy hair! It's called a "style prep" to be used as a leave-in detangler but it's really a curl cream with light hold. There's been such a need for this type of product that also works great for day 2 hair (just mist hair with water and add a pump of this and air dry or diffuse and it looks like day 1!). I have bra strap length curly (3a/b) hair when wet and use a pea size (less than 1 pump of this product) + 1 pump phomollient (apply to roots and then everywhere) and diffuse. Sometimes I use a dab of their be curly curl enhancer as my last product before diffusing. I always comb through with a wide tooth comb to distribute each product. Remember, less is more with these products! Edit 10/2/12: I now start off using aveda's new color conserve leave in- about the size of a pea-dime and distribute before adding the products described above. I love this combo!

Treatments -Pro Activ - Proactiv Repairing Lotion
rated 4 of 5
slivola 1/30/2011 6:52:00 PM

Okay, here's the deal: it's not Pro Activ that's so great, it's the 2.5% BP ingredient in this product which is hard to find as a lotion (too harsh as a cleanser). The only other product out there is Neutrogena's on the spot. That's the same stuff, just comes in smaller tubes so you really have to stock up. So I'm giving this 4 lippies b/c it's good but neutrogena makes the same stuff! I discovered the acne.org website- amazing tips! (Make sure you DON'T go to the .com version- that's owned by proactiv and just promotes their products). Anyway, what I learned is that it's the 2.5% BP ingredient that is the key and it must be applied in a very LARGE amount all over your face (not the pea like size proactiv suggests) in order to work. Also, gentle, gentle cleansers- no BP necessary and then a lot of moisturizer after the BP fully dries. My skin has transformed b/c of this routine- I know I sound like an infomerical (sorry!) but I really want to share the acne.org website since it's so good (and it's free, nothing you have to buy!) Feb 22 Edit- After going off this product and only using the Neutrogena on the spot or the CVS generic, I would say the main difference is that the proactiv treatment leaves skin kind of shiny looking afterward whereas the neutrogena and cvs version are a matte finish. Either way, a moisturizer is still needed, contrary to what you might think by seeing shiny skin (it's an illusion!)

Styling Products -Aveda - Be Curly Curl Control (old) [DISCONTINUED]
rated 1 of 5
slivola 1/30/2011 6:44:00 PM

Total waste of money! This product cannot be used on wet hair and is essentially just a very overpriced mediocre finishing product. Plus, if you use too much your hair is weighed down and feels gunky. Try any other finishing product and also switch over to aveda's brand new Be Curly Style Prep which is awesome! Apply to wet or damp day 2 hair. It makes it really curly with a touch of hold.
