Toners -Silk Naturals - 8% AHA toner
slim34 11/11/2012 1:21:00 PM
Really nice, non-irritating lactic toner. I've discovered that my skin prefers lactic over other acids like glycolic, salicylic and mandelic. I alternate nights between this toner and Atralin, and my skin really seems to be loving the results of the two products.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Atralin

I think I have finally found the retinoid of my dreams! :) After trying various rx and OTC retinoids, this one really seems to be the most effective for me. It doesn't irritate my skin at all, doesn't dry me out and never gave me an initial acne flare when I started using it. It banishes any clogged pores or developing pimples very quickly. Most spots don't fully develop and clogged pores clear out in a few days. Of course Kaiser doesn't cover this (seems they don't cover most of the good meds!) - they keep insisting that generic Retin-A gel is exactly the same thing. I'm done fighting with them over it, and just purchase it out of pocket with the coupon I downloaded. It makes it a little pricey, but the tube is large and I only apply a small amount. Its definitely worth it for the clear skin I now have!!

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Ziana
slim34 11/11/2012 12:46:00 PM
I have had problems with retinoid use in the past, so I tried Ziana because it is one of the more gentle prescription retinoids on the market. Overall, it worked very well for me. It helped keep my skin clear and did not irritate my face or cause an initial acne flare (unlike Differin, which really killed my skin!). The biggest downside for me is that it really dried out my skin, even when I was using it every other night. Because of the dryness, I switched to Atralin, which has a more hydrating base. I also had a problem with my insurance company not covering it, so I had to pay out of pocket using one of those discount coupons. The coupon helped bring the cost down, but otherwise it would have been a very pricey medication! I would purchase this again, if Atralin wasn't an option. And I'd definitely recommend it for those who want a mild retinoid.

Treatments (Eye) -Olay - Regenerist Eye Lifting Serum
slim34 9/1/2012 1:31:00 PM
I'm surprised this doesn't get better reviews. I really seem to get nice results with this. It doesn't "lift" anything (I don't think any creams really do that), but it does moisturize and brighten my eye area quite nicely. It has reflective effects which makes the skin under my eyes brighter. I also like that is has niacinamide, which is something my skin responds well to. It doesn't irritate my eyes at all and no issues with clogging either. I'd definitely repurchase!

Sunscreen -L'Oreal - Sublime Sun Crystal Clear Mist Sunscreen SPF 50
slim34 8/18/2012 8:54:00 PM
This is a great water-resistant sunscreen for use on the body. It is really lightweight, not sticky at all after it dries. It leaves my skin slightly soft, but not greasy. I like that it has just a few ingredients, and also that there are a couple of anti-oxdiants included. The only downside is the slightly strong alcohol smell upon application. It fades after a few minutes though, after the denatured alcohol evaporates. It is also relatively inexpensive. I'd definitely repurchase.

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Topix - Replenix Ultra Sheer Physical Sunscreen Spray SPF 50
slim34 7/22/2012 1:09:00 PM
Updated review: I've been using this for about a month now and I am still liking it. I think this is my new favorite sunscreen! :) It applies easily - I just spray it about 4 times in the palm of my hand and then pat and blend it over my skin. The finish is nice, it works very well with my makeup. No issues with the sunscreen balling up, which has always been an problem for me. It doesn't leave my skin greasy, but it also isn't drying me out. I'd say it gives my skin a demi-matte finish. I find that I am less oily midday than I was with my old sunscreen. The best thing about it is that it feels very light on the skin. I can't even tell that I am wearing sunscreen. I also love the fact that is has a bunch of great antioxidants!!

Moisturizers -MD Formulations - Moisture Defense Antioxidant lotion
slim34 7/14/2012 11:52:00 AM
This is a nice, lightweight moisturizer. I alternate this one with the AOX hydrating gel. I actually like the gel better, but use the lotion on days where I need a little more moisture. If I use it daily, I do get a little cloggy. It seems to work best if I use it about every 3rd day, and the gel the other two days. I don't love the packaging because its hard to tell how much of the product is left. I always have to guess when I need to reorder it. Overall, though I think it is a good light moisturizer. I will continue to purchase this along with the gel.

Sunscreen -Skinceuticals - Physical Fusion SPF 50
slim34 7/13/2012 8:29:00 PM
After all the rave reviews by those with acne-prone, sensitive skin I decided to give this a try. It just didn't work for me. It seemed to apply well and blend in with my skin - I'm quite fair-skinned and the color wasn't bad on me. However, I could not get it to work with my liquid foundation. It made my skin tone and texture look really odd. It looked so bad that I had to wash off my makeup and reapply it with a different sunscreen. It seemed to work better with my mineral makeup, which I wear on days I want lighter coverage. I started wearing it just on days I was using my MMU, but then it started to clog me. I don't know what ingredient was the problem, but I did notice a form of algae that is far down the ingredient list. The search for the perfect sunscreen continues...

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Elta MD UV Clear SPF 46

I really wanted to like this sunscreen. Its nice and light and I love the fact that it contains niacinamide. I also like that it does not clog or irritate my acne-prone skin. It feels nice going on, and isn't too heavy. My main problem with this product is that after application it balls up worse than any sunscreen I've ever used. Makeup does not work well with it because this. I use it on days when I don't care about my makeup as much, just so I can use up the bottle. I definitely will not repurchase though.

Moisturizers -Acne.org - Moisturizer

Didn't hydrated my skin at all and it clogged me (the jojoba perhaps?). The texture is very strange, kind of slimy. Would definitely not purchase this again. I can see why it gets such low ratings here!

Moisturizers -Peter Thomas Roth - Oil Free Moisturizer
slim34 5/26/2011 3:53:00 PM
I started off kind of liking this moisturizer. I have a hard time finding something that works for my oily, sometimes dehydrated, clog-prone skin. It moisturizers fairly well, but I think it ended up being slightly clogging for me over time. It took a couple months for me to notice, but I'm pretty sure it was this moisturizer that caused the problem. It also has a slightly sticky feel when you first apply it and for some reason, it made the pores on my cheeks look huge!

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lifelink Metazene Niacinamide Gel
slim34 5/26/2011 1:22:00 PM
Note that the other two ratings on this page are not for the Metazene gel, but are for DIY niacinamide products. I really like the Metazene gel a lot. It has a higher % of niacinamide (5%) than most other products on the market. The product is a light, slightly hydrating gel. I use it over my OTC retinoid in the evenings and in the morning, my skin is always soft and hydrated. It hasn't clogged me either, or irritated my skin. Love this stuff!!

Moisturizers -MD Formulations - Moisture Defense Antioxidant Hydrating Gel
slim34 5/26/2011 9:22:00 AM
This is a great hydrating gel for oily, clog-prone skin like mine! It applies easily and works well under my makeup and it doesn't clog my pores. I also really love that it contains some great antioxidants, which are really making a difference in my overall skin tone. I do have to layer it with a moisturizing sunscreen, so its not quite moisturizing enough on its own for me. I'd definitely recommend it for those with oily or acne prone skin!!

Treatments -Silk Naturals - Vitamin C Peptide Serum
slim34 4/9/2011 7:38:00 PM
I really, really wanted to love this product, but it just didn't work for my slightly acne prone skin. The first couple of weeks went well, I liked the improvements I was seeing in my skin tone, reduction in red marks, discoloration, increased brightness. Unfortunately, around wk 3 I started getting breakouts - weird bumps on my chin and a few scattered clogged pores. Not sure what my skin didn't like in this formula - maybe the tamarind seed or the peptides? I'm going to try a DIY MAP serum now, so I can control what ingredients go into the serum.

Sunscreen -Unlisted Brand - Face Reality SPF 30 for Acne Prone Skin
slim34 3/19/2009 3:41:00 PM
I absolutely love Face Reality's sunscreen!! It is sooo hard to find a good sunscreen that is safe for acne prone skin (and trust me, I've tried MANY!). Face Reality's sunscreen doesn't clog my pores and it also does not leave an oily film on my face like most other sunscreens do. It absorbs into my skin really quickly after I apply it, and my makeup goes on smoothly afterwards. It also has a slight moisturizing effect, which is a nice bonus!
