Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Lady Gaga - Fame

Package is great. It's an inoffensive fruity floral like many other celebrity scents, and not particularly well done. It smells like a synthetic scent with nondescript floral and apricot notes If this was ammunition in the feud against Madonna it would fail. Madonna came up with the far more interesting concoction. Something 15 year olds would spray after gym class. Too bad.

BB Cream -Marcelle - BB Cream Beauty Balm
sisterdes 3/4/2012 9:55:00 PM
Although similar in look and finish to the estee lauder bb cream, there is one glaring oversight. It has no spf whatsoever. it's fairly easy to concoct a foundation that looks and feels great and doesn't break y ou out if there is zero broad spectrum spf. Disappointing and unheard of in a bb cream. Garnier at least had some semblance of a token limited spectrum spf 15, but the finish was disappointing, oily and unnatural on me. I guess I will have to keep spending for the lauder version. c'est la vie...

Shampoo -Suave - Daily Clarifying Shampoo
sisterdes 2/23/2012 9:55:00 AM
This is the clarifying shampoo I have been looking for all my life. The price point is under 2$. The best part of course is that it does work. Instead of the frizzy mess my fine straight and dyed hair has regained its former non frizzy glory. Every conditioner that stopped working on my hair now works again, and I am very pleased. I can use this every 2 days as my regular shampoo with no problem, and alternate with a conditioner as a shampoo. The conditioner is nice as a detangler as well but I find I need something stronger for my ends.

Polishes -Sally Hansen - salon effects
sisterdes 5/11/2011 12:29:00 AM
Was able to apply in under 10 minutes on the first try, and am on day 4 with no chip. Lots of compliments on the leopard print pattern and have survived a lot of hand washing and baby care creams! I'm super impressed with the ease of application and professional look. Going to try more ...they are fast, fun and no fumes around baby !

Shampoo -L'Oreal - EverSleek Intense Smoothing Shampoo
sisterdes 3/29/2011 12:10:00 PM
I have to admit...I scoffed at the eversleek Jlo ads. I thought no sulfates or silicones.. are they just selling me a tube of water?? But my hair was frizzy and dry from a botched at home dye job (which for the record, saving money on salon hair dye visit almost always results in increased shampoo/conditioner/ corrective product to make your hair not like straw -spending) , wary of proteins and silicones on my already damaged hair.. and I had a 3$ coupon....And there was a sale. Tried it the shampoo and conditioner for a week. And hey, the shampoo rinsed out and didn't make my hair straw like, the conditioner felt pretty good. I towel dried my hair and waited. Soft. Smooth. Not as shiny as I'd like but instead of frizzy it's straighter than it's been in ages. No SLS but some nice oils in it. This gives me the effect of 'second day hair' in one day. I scoff no more. I'm going to go to shoppers and grab up some more of these 3$ coupons and save them for a rainy day :o Just sayin, there are coupons there, Get em if you want to give it a try.. 4 Lippies over all because the shine factor could be better, and it's not exactly the cheapest L'Oreal option!

Treatments -Avon - Reversalist Serum
sisterdes 2/19/2010 1:06:00 PM
I never thought I'd like an avon skincare product and I used to sell it! Mainly because my skin is sensitive, and the only skin care I used was Avene and LRP. Well that changed when I became pregnant and was told not to use retin a or retinol products. I thought ok, why not try avon. They have AHA type products and they're cheap..and my cousin swore by the reversalist serum. The line was on sale so I picked it up, serum, night cream and foaming cleanser. Heck I thought 1/3 had to be ok and at that price it didn't matter. Well. I got compliments from the hubby, day 3, he said I looked so rested. The glycolic acid in the serum smoothed my skin to baby soft levels and brightened my complexion. I used the night cream as well which was fairly heavy, so mostly on my neck. I felt a light tingle but nothing too uncomfortable and skin was noticibly plumper in the AM. During the day, the silicone in the serum makes for a great primer and so far, week 2. Has not broken me out whatsoever and doen't smell perfumey like many of their offerings do. The foaming cleanser leaves my face tight for 1 minute but if you can put up with that,I swear I try using toner afterward (my usual LRP micellular toner) and there is no trace of makeup left to remove. I've been trying all week after wearing powder foundation on top of the serum because I can't quite believe my eyes. Needless to say, I've directed all skin complements and inquiries to my cousin :) I say green light, give it a try! 4 lippies because I have a short attention span, and agree that the packaging could be better.

Fragrances -Avon - Bond Girl 007

Yes I'm one avon rep who also generally doesn't like the fragrances. Not one. Except this one. Why might you ask? Well, it reminds me of Narcisso Rodriguez which I love!. A far far less expensive version that I will douse myself with. In fact, I'm very peeved that it didn't come out earlier so I didn't have to buy the spendy versions!! Who am I kidding, I'd probably get the other ones anyway because "this is a winter version!' or 'The bottle is pretty!'

Primer/ Corrector -Avon - MagiX Face Perfector
sisterdes 9/5/2008 7:48:00 PM
(Full disclosure, I sell Avon!) BAD: No UVA protection, BOO, it's not immediately obvious in the brochure so I was unpleasantly suprised by this. Also, strong fragrance, it does disappear but I was put off by this. GOOD: Does the job. Mattifies, absorbing oil, smooths out skin and reduces the look of pores. I didn't notice cakiness in my makeup, but then again I often wear it to the office instead of makeup, on top of my regular sunscreen. Why? Sunscreen makes me greasy no matter what I use, anything with adequate UVA is gross on me, and this fixes it right up. BETTER: I love smashbox, but the regular photofinish breaks me out. The sample size of the regular photofinish is 8$ at sephora. The new "Light" version, which I also sampled and liked, was 25$ for the tiny tiny, and did I mention TINY tube. Magix has not broken me out so far *knock on wood* even though my face generally doesn't like silicones. For a full size product, Magix retailed for 9.99 on sale. I'll keep using it. 3 Lippies because of that fragrance and UVA thing. I really didn't like that it was marketed like that. That said, I will keep using it on top of my regular sunscreen and under my makeup!

Lipstick -MAC - Mellow Mood - Electroflash Collection
sisterdes 7/28/2008 2:19:00 PM
A neutral pinkbrown lipstick that doesn't make me look like my lips are made out of clay:?? CHECK. I used to love twig until it started to make me look like a statue, and since then I have never quite found a pink brown that is flattering without being too pink, or giving me 'liver lips'. The slight gold shimmer in this lustre formula makes all the difference in giving this colour dimension on the lips. It's YLBB, light textured, and wearable with almost anything. I saw it in the tube, held it up to the light, and told my friend 'you must have this, and so must I' We both bought it and it looks great on both of us. She's tanned, blond highlights brown eyes, I'm slightly less tanned, dark brown hair, brown eyes. We look great. Worn with MAC Beurre lipliner, or my fave Dior Tile. Buy this :)

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Redermic XL
sisterdes 5/22/2008 11:19:00 AM
I picked this in the Munich duty free pharmacy as it's not available in Toronto yet. I've used the Active C and Redermic regular versions, so my review is going to be in comparison to the regular redermic product. All of the products including this one clog my pores a bit because of the silicone, but in general the brightening results are worth the extra effort to exfoliate. The added sunscreen in this product eliminates a layer of grease on my face when I'm not going to be out for long in serious sun. This I LOVE. Sunscreens generally break me out but I haven't had any more adverse effects than I would expect from the regular versions. Less layers, less drying time, not shiny so no need to cover with powder if I'm just in my yoga pants running out the door to run an errand. I know that more sunscreen is necessary and a higher PPD for outdoor use, but, in ordinary circumstancess I wouldn't use any, or I would forget. or I wouldn't bother unless I was wearing makeup so for me it's a significant improvement. Since I don't use this treatment at night, because I'm starting on retinoids for night time this is excellent for me. I'm looking for a non greasy high ppd sunscreen on top but for now this, plus my spf 30 neutrogena tinted moisturizer or spf 50 avene makeup is better than nothing! It's only been a week, and I'm already noticing the brightening results, my face looks more rested, and I'm kicking myself for not buying more tubes!

Liquid -MAC - Face and Body Foundation
sisterdes 5/25/2007 1:33:00 PM
Originally when I bought this, I tried it briefly thought, ew watery greasy and doesn't cover! then washed it off and packed it away thinking well, at least I can probablyi use it for my legs or something.. I pulled it out of the cupboard a year later, and tried again. I am a fool, such a fool for not giving this a chance. I hadn't even let it set last time. Yes it was watery but this time I applied with a brush over some cover FX foundation primer to guard my skin against potentially icky foundations.. and it layered so that even my breakout looked like good skin! It settled into my skin perfectly didn't highlight my pores, remained dewey and not greasy when it set, and it stayed put. I powdered over top as an afterthought and was slightly disappointed that some of the glow went away.. I didn't plan on doing full makeup as I was just going for coffee and to study a bit at starabucks, but I ended up doing it because I could pull it off with the coverage I got from this! I'll be wearing it tonight..

Fragrances -Elizabeth Arden - Red Door Velvet
sisterdes 5/14/2007 12:57:00 AM
I was so surprised when I smelled this, I immediately bought it. I am a fan of Narcisso Rodriguez For Her (in EDT and EDP formulations) So imagine my surprise when a fragrance that costs half that much evokes the NR EDP (and to some extent Lovely), except richer warmer, a bit sweeter and stronger. Very cozy smelling to me, and non cloying even with the added sweetness. Very pleased with the lasting power and price of this perfume. Another reviewer got it right when she described it as an evening version of NR. Fantastic!

Sunscreen -La Roche Posay - Hydraphase UV SPF 30
sisterdes 4/21/2007 8:42:00 PM
Light and moisturizing, I use it on my dry days and it's got a great gel like texture for a makeup base. It's too bad there's no mexoryl in it but it still has physical blocks and beats any other facial sunscreen in its class that I've tried. (With similar ingredients). It doesn't irritate my skin or break me out, but because it's in such a small package, I'm afraid to use it more than once in a while in case it runs out. I know that defeats the purpose.. When you dont want to be too white or shine like a beacon, this is a good sunscreen to use with physical block ingredients!

Cleansers -La Roche Posay - Rosaliac Micellar Make up removal gel 4 face and eyes
sisterdes 4/21/2007 8:37:00 PM
A light blue pump bottle filled with clear gel that you can tissue off or rinse. Takes off eyemakeup like a dream. I did notice that I need a toner to get rid of sunscreen if I am wearing a tonne of it, but it beats Spectrogel cetaphil, AND Paulas Choice in the makeup removal department even though they have similar gel like consistencies. If the price point was better I would repurchase, but it doens't have any effect on my rosacea postive or negative

Lip Treatments -La Roche Posay - Antherpos Ceralip Sunscreen SPF 50
sisterdes 4/21/2007 8:32:00 PM
It comes in a tube, and is far superior to the Avene version of the same product in the area of smell, taste texture AND appearance, I can't say about the functionality. Antherpose is SPF 50, the taste is almost buttery, and it's far less whitening than the Avene on the lips, and neutral peachy coloured. It moisturizes my lips, still whitens them a bit, but I wear it under lipstick or gloss anyway. On super dry days I have used it around my eye area without any problem, no milia, no irritation. Score!
