Hair Color -Clairol - Radiance Colorgloss translucent deposit only color
silvie90 6/16/2009 8:54:00 AM
This is a great hair coloring product that truly gives great shine! But I strongly urge ANYONE who is going to use this product to read the easy-to-follow, 1 page info sheet from Clairol, the manufacturer: http://www.clairolpro.com/files/infoguide/radiance_color_infuser.jpg The way you use the product for highlight toning, virgin hair, color touch ups, is all a bit different. So read the guide to get good results! Everyone seems to agree that this does deposit dark, so when in doubt use the Clear Shine product to dilute your color choice. NOTE: while the bottle says to process for 20 minutes, the Clairol site info sheet recommends just 5 minutes for most users! No wonder everyone is getting a dark result...

Treatments -Frederic Fekkai - Salon Glaze
silvie90 3/27/2008 4:02:00 PM
I bought this through beauty.com and was able to get it before it arrived in the stores : ) I have tried several glazes before--notable the John Frieda ones or similar drugstore ones, as well as the one in the genie bottle from Oscar Blandi. This is far superior. For starters, it smells nice, has a light and creamy texture. Best of all: it really really conditions and moisterizes your hair--doesnt leave it dry like all the other "glazes" I've tried. It also left my hair with a real shine boost. The only downsides I see are: it's kinda pricey (esp for those with long hair) and the effect doesnt seem to really last unless you use it pretty much ever shampoo. Still--really like this stuff! I may upgrade it to 5 stars depending on my thoughts after more uses....UPDATE: I've used this a few times now and LOVE it. It really is the best at-home glaze treatment I've ever used and is fantastically moisterizing. It really makes my hair look like I've just left the salon.

Foundations -Sephora - Powdered Liquid Foundation SPF12
silvie90 1/19/2008 9:25:00 AM
I like to mix foundations/skincare to get the right color, amount of SPF, and overall consistency (matte/dewy). It's def a pain to do that, but I do it anyway. Like others, this was on sale at Sephora for $4, so I snatched it up. I found this product to be a good base to mix with Sephora face-body spf 30, plus a tiny bit of oil-free Sue Devitt bronzer. So that combo works for me. This product is meant to have a powdery finish, which I think simply does not work on its own--too powdery/dry looking.

Treatments -Rene Furterer - Complexe 5 Regenerating Extract
silvie90 1/19/2008 9:19:00 AM
This is meant as a PRE shampoo treatment, applied about 10 minutes before you shampoo. It def has a strong smell--sort of lemony and also kind of like tea-tree oil. But I actually like the scent (I'm prob in the minority here). You apply this oil directly onto yr scalp and then massage. The bottle applicator top is great--makes it very easy to get a small amount into a specific area. It feels tingly when applied which I also like--makes it feel like it really is working! I dont have thinning hair but I wanted to get some treatment to help me grow my hair faster after a bad hair cut. I have used this product in conjunction with the Triphasic vails AND the vitalfan vitamins. My hair growth has gone up to close to 1 inch per month. It's not cheap but I somehow justified the expense when I compared it to getting high-end hair extensions (which are easily $1000 +!!). So all Rene F products seemed really affordable after that! ; )

Masks -Peter Thomas Roth - Oxygen Detoxifying Masque
silvie90 12/10/2007 6:57:00 AM
Really good, multi-purpose masque! I use this 2 x per week and each use leaves my skin feeling and looking smoother, clearer and softer. I have combo skin with both fine lines and occasion pimples. This is one of the few products that I find works effectively yet gently on both at the same time! A little goes a long way so the product is cost-effective. I find the tub a little unhygenic--pump would be preferable. Will def re-purchase. : )

Treatments -Rene Furterer - Triphasic Revitalizing Formula
silvie90 11/29/2007 7:19:00 AM
I bought this product after a BAD haircut (went in for a trim, came out with 4 inches off). Desperate to make my hair grow faster, I bought this plus the Vital Fan vitamins. I dont know if it is one item or both, but I do believe that my hair has grown MUCH faster than usual : ) I'm guessing that at my current rate (using this for 2 wks now) I will get close to 1 inch growth per month! In the interest of full disclosure, I have also made a big effort to eat a lot of healthy protein and avoid empty calories. My skin is also GLOWING. Again, not sure if it is all this treatment or--more likely-- the combo approach. But I def recommend this for anyone wanting to boost growth!

Sunscreen -Peter Thomas Roth - Instant Mineral SPF 30
silvie90 4/15/2007 8:34:00 AM
I had high hopes for this powder sunscreen but was a bit disappointed. I would give 3.5 stars if possible. Pros: spf 30 in a light, non-oily, portable powder form & in a color suitable for most skin tones. Cons: brush is cheap quality and leaves little black brittles on your face or wherever you use it, smells bad (though fades pretty quickly), brush is impossible to fit back into the cap so the bristles stick out and continue to erode the already low-quality brush, quantity of product is pretty small for the cost. UPDATE: I am upgrading this product a star because--as a kind reader here pointed out--you CAN actually put the brush back into the cap easily. Just pull back (and do NOT twist) the base and the whole unit contracts back, so you can easily slide the cap on.

Treatments -DERMAdoctor - Physical Chemistry
silvie90 3/4/2007 7:36:00 AM
This product is meant to be a dermabrasion and chemical peel in one. I was sceptical and got a sample of it from Sephora. WOW. I was impressed after the very first use. I have good skin, but fine lines, hyperpigmentation. Well, after the first use (leave on skin for a few minutes and lightly scrub skin)I noticed my brown spots faded, lines softened and a real GLOW to my skin. I love this stuff. It's worth the $75 cost because it works better than any oter scrub out there that I have tried. Another plus is that the "microbeads" are not harsh--perfect for anyone who's used a dermabrasion scrub and felt like they've had sand paper on their skin. This stuff is pleasant to use and really gives results. Highly recommended.

Styling Products -Jonathan - Silky Dirt
silvie90 2/13/2007 7:16:00 AM
Here's a product that actually does double-duty--it adds texture (and to some degree volume) while also smoothing and sealing the hair. I especially recommend it for hair that is fine and on the dry side. The instructions say you can use it on damp or dry hair. But I think it's best used on damp hair. (too easy to over do it on dry). One downside: it is heavy and it is easy to use too much. Make sure to really emulsify this by rubbing it in your palms before applying. One other note--if it feel you used too much, brush your hair thoroughly to distribute it. I really like this stuff--and was very surprised how well it works. I combine it with Phyto volumizer at the roots and apply this more to the ends. Great, full results. : )

Conditioner -Davines - Nounou
silvie90 11/25/2006 6:58:00 PM
Ok--this stuff is SO GOOD that i had to go back to other hair conditioner reviews I've written and downgrade them by 1 lippie because this product is the BEST of all and deserves the 5 lippie award. Smells divine, a small amount works wonders and leaves your hair wonderfully conditioned/moisterized but light and never weighed down. I have fine, slightly dry, color-treated hair and this is absolutely the most wonderful performer available. Great, recycle-friendly packaging too!! LOVE IT.

Conditioner -Frederic Fekkai - Baby Blonde Conditioner
silvie90 11/9/2006 12:41:00 PM
I left this in my hair overnight per the recommendations on this board and woke up to great results! This conditioner smells wonderful (lemony), conditions/moisterizes my hair very well, and imparts a lovely golden glow to my highlighted brunette hair (fine and wavy). It didnt weight it down at all either. This product is admittedly on the pricey side for $20 but for folks like me who spend crazy money on their hair anyway (highlights are expensive!), then this isnt a bad purchase. Consider it an investment in preserving your colored locks. Highly recommended to blondes as well as anyone with blonde highlights.

Treatments -Nexxus - Emergencee Strengthening Polymeric Reconstructor
silvie90 11/6/2006 4:10:00 PM
this is a one-of-a-kind miracle product for *severely damaged* hair, Here is the trick, folks: you MUST USE A MOISTERIZER AFTERWARDS. Many people on this site complain of the straw-like quality of their hair following this treatment. Here's the reason why: fixing severely damaged hair is a two-step process. 1) Repairing the integrity of the hair with protein (which Emergencee does) which makes hair strong but still leaves it dry, and 2) Infusing the hair with moisture, which you absolutely need to do after using this product. Restoring the integrity is the hardest part--which is what makes this stuff so great. There are lots of conditioners/moisterizers out there to adequately handle the second part of the equation. For less damaged hair, try Redken Deep Fuel--it is also a protein-based product (though not as heavy duty as this one and not as expensive), so you also should follow it with a moisterizer, too.

Treatments -Phyto - Phytonectar
silvie90 10/27/2006 7:49:00 AM
Pardon the long post, but this is great stuff!!! This is a pre-shampoo treatment that you leave in for a minimum of 15 minutes. It's a "dry" oil so it wont make your hair look too weighed down/greasy if you put this on & pull your hair back with a clip or something (for example before going to the gym or while out on weekend errands). I think the fragrance is really nice and floral/herbal like. After applying this & leaving on for a few hours, I shampooed and conditioned per usual: my hair was noticably more shiny, felt super soft, seemed stronger, too. Since a tiny bit goes a long way, the price is reasonable. About me: I have fine, color-treated hair & i use a flat iron sometimes. Since I want to grow my hair out and keep it healthy, I compensate by using top-notch hair care & special treatments. This is a great, easy-to-use addition to my hair routine. Another great thing about this product: it is VERY versatile! I sometimes use a drop or two as a shine/finishing treatment. I have even put a few drops into my body lotion just before applying because this stuff smells good and is so moisturizing. Finally, it even does wonders for my cuticles!

Mascara -Bare Escentuals - Big Tease Mascara
silvie90 10/21/2006 2:21:00 PM
It's ALL about the wand. This mascara has a great wand with bristles that extend out long on one side, and features a shorter rows of bristles on the other. Use the longer row to coat the bulk of your lashes, then use the shorter row to get the corner lashes and separate out the longer ones. UPDATE: down grading 1 lippie this because it dries out too quickly. I have fairly long lashes that tend to fade out/disappear at the ends. This mascara brings the ends to life with softness. Because of the fewer bristles on the wand, the mascara gets less clumpy than most, and I think the product also goes further/lasts longer. I like the ingredients too--they seem moisterizing.

Styling Products -Phyto - Phyto Pro Ultra Gloss Wax
silvie90 10/21/2006 2:13:00 PM
LOVE this stuff. I got bangs recently and my fine, wavy hair doesnt always cooperate with the style I'm aiming for. This wax gives my hair extra pliability, body, and strength so I can keep my bangs in place better with less wavy pieces and fewer fly-aways. (Apparently the ingredient "myrrh" is responsible for making this happen.) Overall, the wax --which feels a little like a pomade and a little like a body-boosting styling gel--gives a nice, soft hold and makes my hair easier to work with. A little goes a LONG way, so this product is really pretty well priced. Never feels dirty or leaves build-up the way some products can. Mild, unnoticable fragrance, too. Highly recommended for people with similar hair type.
