Mascara -Maybelline - Volum' Express The Falsies
silvercons 8/24/2012 9:16:00 PM
I bought this on a whim as it was on special as I was at the supermarket. I'm glad I did! I have short wimpy lashes and I need all the thickening, curling and lengthening help I can get. This mascara delivers that in 2 coats. I can imagine those already blessed with long lashes will truly experience the false lash look but for those like me you'll achieve an awake look which suits me. I also worked out at the gym once with th is mascara on and it didn't smudge!

Moisturizers -Desert Essence - Daily Essential Moisturizer

Since being on roaccutane I have developed some flakiness (but still had some underlying oiliness) and was on a hunt for a cream that was moisturizing without being too heavy and most importantly not cause acne nor blocked pores. I have found exactly what I need in this cream. When I first applied it, it felt like a heavy cream but my skin just soaked it up without leaving any greasiness. On a couple of occasions there has been a tingly sensation for a minute or so. I've put it down to the roaccutane causing some skin sensitivity. I love how there aren't any added fragrances, there really isn't any need for that stuff. I really hope my skin continues to love it after I get off my medication :)

Lotions/ Creams -Garnier - Intensive 7 Days Conditioning Lotion
silvercons 11/26/2011 9:31:00 PM
I have acne prone combination skin on my face but the skin on my body is prone to dryness esp. my hands which I need to moisturize at least 5 times a day. I was excited about this cream when I saw the advertisement. My thoughts were "it must be SUPER moisturizing if it claims to moisturize for 7 days". That wasn't the case for me at all. I found that it seemed to sit on top of the skin and was never fully absorbed so it felt greasy even half an hour later. The fragrance was quite strong, very sweet and floral that lingered. I didn't mind it too much but I think some people would find it overwhelming. Overall for all its moisturizing claims I don't rate it. I've found a super cheap sorbolene cream, Natures Organics Sorbolene Reviews, that does a fantastic job. It doesn't have any mineral oils, is fragrance free, absorbs quickly and is suitable for sensitive skin. It is Australian owned and made so I'm not sure if it is available in any other country

Cleansers -Unlisted Brand - Oil Cleansing Method OCM
silvercons 5/22/2011 12:41:00 AM
I've been researching products to correct my sensitive, oily (sometimes combination, normal cheeks, oily t-zone) and acne prone (black heads, small fleshy bumps and occasional cystic pimples) skin for sometime now. My first reaction to the OCM was "WTH?, put oil on my oily acne prone skin? I don't think so!". After so many years of looking for oil free products, mattifiers and drying my skin with toners that had some alcohol in them it didn't make sense. However, the more I read into it the more sense it made. I won't go into too much of the science of oil dissolving oil (as I'm sure a lot of you would have read into it) I became more interested and researched the oils that would suit my skin type. I started with 50/50 jojoba and castor oil but I found it left my skin a little taut afterwards. I've settled on a 75% jojoba and 25% castor oil mix with a few drops of tea tree oil as it's anti-inflammatory and acts as a disinfectant. Here are the steps I take: 1.After washing my body in the shower I thoroughly wash my hands and then take a dime or 10c (I'm aussie hehe) size of the oil mixture rubbing to distribute the mixture onto both hands. 2. Massage the oil onto my face, concentrating on one part of my face, forehead, temples, nose, cheeks and chin at each time. Some people spend 5-10 minutes massaging but I probably spend 3 minutes at most. You should spend as much time as you wish. This step is meant to massage the oils into your pores to dislodge dirt, sweat and impurities. Some people have experienced tiny nodules (such as black heads) come out of their pores, I was waiting for this sensation but it never happened, perhaps it only happens after 5 minutes of massage :) 3. I turn the shower back on and rinse my face washer in warm water (I don't like the idea of using HOT water as I have sensitive skin and really hot water on your face can cause broken capillaries aka spider veins). I gently wipe the oil away, rinse the washer again and wipe again. 4. Depending on the weather I may put a couple of drops of jojoba on my skin to moisturize, that's it! I just cleansed off all my make up/dirt/sweat, exfoliated, toned and moisturized. I firmly believe that the results you achieve from any skin care routine and esp. ocm are: - only as good as the ingredients your use: they don't have to be super expensive oil (although cold pressed is best), just kept hygienic and not exposed to sunlight - adjusted to suit your skin concerns :play around with the ratios if your skin is too dry or oily after the first couple of times. Once you are more comfortable you can introduce essential oils such as tea tree, lavender, rose just to name a few - consistency: you can't expect results after a couple of nights or even a couple of weeks of dong a routine here or there. Just like your skin hasn't become a mess due to sun over exposure, hormones etc over night don't expect a new routine to turn it all around in 2 weeks. - using clean and hygienic everything, this means clean hands, clean bottles (I bought amber glass pump bottles that I thoroughly cleaned in hot soapy water and leaving to air dry prior to pouring my oils in) and clean wash cloth. I change my cloth 2-3 times a week but wash it with body wash after each and every time I use it and leave it to dry in a well ventilated area as leaving a wet cloth in a damp environment such as a bathroom can breed bacteria. After a few weeks of being diligent I have noticed that the tiny white white heads on my forehead have reduced 80%, the pores on my cheeks directly beside my nose have reduced 30%, the black heads on my nose look about 30% better. The the oil production has reduced, I don't have to blot my skin the 5 times a day, I probably do it twice a day now. The best thing is that my skin looks so much smoother! I've cut out using toners, other moisturizers, face masks etc as I want to continue assessing the effectiveness of ocm without combining it with other products just in case there is a bad reaction and I don't know what caused it. So far so good. I will update in a couple of months, fingers crossed!!!

Mascara -Almay - Intense i-color w/ Light Interplay Technology
silvercons 4/26/2011 8:58:00 AM
LOVE THIS! I have used A LOT of the "value brand" mascaras on the market including but not limited to maybeline, revlon, covergirl and maxfactor. Some of them were a waste of time and money especially the various covergirl ones. I had better luck with maxfactor but I wanted more. I started to think I needed to pay more and go for the diors and like. I'm asian so my lashes are short and stumpy but the individual lashes are thick. I was looking for a long wearing, smudge proof, curling and lengthening mascara which is a tall order for most mascaras but not this Almay one. Other mascaras offered one or two benefits but usually failed in the smudgeproof department, even the so called waterproofs. One coat is fine for day wear but I like two coats for night time and my lashes are curled, lengthened and lasts all day/night without flaking or smudging on my oily skin. I love how my my eyes and face instantly look more awake after a coat and glam after two coats. My mascara search has finally ended.

Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Lemon Juice
silvercons 2/4/2011 5:15:00 AM
I was searching for a toner here to buy and stumbled across lemon juice as an option. I thought "why not, it's not like I'm going to waste quite a bit of money on a product that isn't going to work". Just a bit of background on my skin. I'm 30 and have combination skin, oily t-zone with blackheads on my nose and have acne troubles since highschool. I have some acne depressed scars. I still get the occasional cyst acne and those pesky small underskin pimples that don't always come to a head but sit there for sometimes 2 months or more arrghhh!!! I've made my own lemon toner concoction of 1/3 strong green tea, 2/3 lemon juice and a few drops of tea tree oil and use it every night. In the 2 months my skin looks clearer, I haven't had a cyst pimple in a while (oh gosh now that I've typed that I hope one doesn't come up, fingers crossed!) and the texture of my skin seems smoother and looks more radiant. I keep my toner in the fridge as I think it will keep the vitamins more potent and it feels refreshing when I put it on my skin. I still get blackheads and some of my scars are still there. I'm thinking my next batch might have more lemon juice in it. I'm very happy with the results so far and I'm hopeful that my skin will get better the longer I use it.
