Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast
she_thinks_it 12/7/2008 1:33:00 AM
Hooray for this mascara. It goes on beautifully without clumping, even into a second coat. It gives me great length and volume. The price isn't terrible and the big orange tube doesn't get lost in my makeup bag. I use the brown/black and it's not as harsh on me as a regular black would be. I've tried both the waterproof and non-waterproof kinds, and I'm partial to the non-waterproof. It stays on like I want it to and isn't impossible to remove, which is not the case with the waterproof version.

Blush -E.L.F. - Shy
she_thinks_it 12/7/2008 1:23:00 AM
For $1, I couldn't do better. Shy is a pure pink, more blue-undertoned than yellow. I found that with my regular blush brush, it swept on easily, blended well, and stayed on most of the day without changing color. (I don't expect "all day" because I have oily skin.) One thing that did surprise me was how pigmented it was, just one sweep of my brush was all I really needed. It was easy to transport and quick to reapply, and the price is right. It's a really nice "everyday" blush, one I'm glad I found.

Fragrances -Annick Goutal - Mandragore
she_thinks_it 12/7/2008 1:18:00 AM
I hate most perfumes, so I bought this out of desperation to find something that wouldn't leave that chemical floral smell on me. I have to say I was pretty pleased. I like gender-neutral fragrances without floral notes. This one went on and I could immediately smell the ginger and bergamot. The bergamot faded and then I got the pepper note, which stayed for most of the day. I think this could be a nice year-round scent, because the spice is neither too warm nor too light. I also noticed that once dry, the scent didn't change; no chemical drydown scent. I really like wearing this and I'm inspired to try other Annick Goutal fragrances.

Palettes -NARS - Bridal Palette
she_thinks_it 12/7/2008 1:10:00 AM
I haven't been a bride for some time, but I'm pale and always looking for good daily colors that don't put me to sleep, so I tried this. It's a great palette, with beautiful eyeshadows that I can wear lighter for daytime (there's a bone color and a light purplish one) and then add the dark sparkly one for evening. Orgasm blush goes with everything. I even like all four lipsticks despite thinking one of them was going to be very "Hi! I'm wearing pink lipstick!" This is a great palette to travel with, too, because of its day-to-night versatility. The packaging, as with all NARS products, is sleek and classic.

Mascara -LORAC - Publicity Stunt Lashes
she_thinks_it 12/7/2008 1:06:00 AM
They say it stays for 3 days. I say it stays for 3 days...if you don't take a shower or have to change your contact lenses. I did like that the formula didn't irritate my eyes and it didn't take forever to dry. However, once dry I was really unimpressed with the volume and length. It just looked like my regular lame lashes, only darker. It stayed on through my workout but came off when I rubbed my eyes in the shower (I know; I'm dumb). Regardless of how easily or not it came off, I still wouldn't buy it again because it didn't give me the volume or length I need.

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)
she_thinks_it 1/1/2008 1:12:00 PM
I really like this cleanser, because it gets off all the dirt and the day's makeup after my evening workout. I don't notice the smell at all, and I like that I don't have to use a separate makeup remover to get my makeup off before washing my face. I have combination skin which is also acne-prone and while I find that this doesn't do the most stellar job of staving off acne, it certainly doesn't make it worse, either. It's a nice "everyday" cleanser.

Eye Shadow -BeneFit Cosmetics - Creaseless Cream Shadow/Liner (All Shades)
she_thinks_it 12/30/2007 7:14:00 PM
I was skeptical that this product really wouldn't crease, because I tend towards oily eyelids and didn't think this eyeshadow could live up to its promise. I was wrong! It stays on all day and doesn't crease, and the colors are lovely. It took me one or two tries to really get the right amount of product on the brush; I'm using a synthetic Urban Decay brush to apply these. I have RSVP and Birthday Suit, and while I love the colors I do wish they were just a tad less shiny. Still, I'm very happy with this product.

Mascara -Dejavu (Imju) - Fiberwig Lash Knockout
she_thinks_it 12/26/2007 11:09:00 PM
Because I wear contact lenses, I'm always wary of any mascara that has the word "fiber" in it. When I heard this was a tubing mascara, though, I had to try it and I have to say I'm quite pleased with it. It gives my lashes a long, natural look, doesn't smear everywhere, and although it stays on during my workouts it comes off easily with everyday eye makeup remover. It doesn't flake off or fall into my eyes and I've recommended it to friends. I do have to remember to curl my lashes before using it, though, because it has no curling power whatsoever.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose Waterproof
she_thinks_it 12/26/2007 11:05:00 PM
The good news about this mascara: It's waterproof and non-irritating. I used it when I was still wearing RGP contact lenses and had no troubles in that arena. It thickened and lengthened quite nicely in just one or two coats. The problem I had with it, and the reason I will not buy it again, is that it's not just waterproof, it's EVERYTHING-proof. Two different kinds of makeup remover would not take it off. It stuck to my lashes and I ended up pulling them out when removing the mascara! Great while on, but impossible and frustrating to remove.

Shampoo -LUSH - BIG
she_thinks_it 12/26/2007 11:02:00 PM
This is the weirdest shampoo I've ever seen, but it's also one of the best. It smells amazing, lathers well, and makes my hair (mostly straight with a little wave) fluffy and bouncy. A pot is not cheap, but you only need an amount the size of a quarter so it ends up being not-too-terribly expensive. I find that it's not for everyday use, too harsh for that, but two or three times a week is perfect. Some reviews on the Lush site say it takes the color from color-treated hair, but I don't know about that because I've never colored my hair.

Mascara -Christian Dior - DiorShow Mascara Waterproof
she_thinks_it 8/28/2006 11:12:00 PM
FINALLY. An actually waterproof mascara that gives curl, color, and volume to my wimpy blonde lashes. It doesn't irritate my eyes or flake off and bother my RGP contact lenses, either. Surprisingly, I thought the oversize brush was terrific. I can put on 3 or 4 coats and it never clumps or looks icky and it stays soft. To me, this mascara was worth the hype and the $23 price tag. To remove it, I use Almay oil-free eye makeup remover pads or MAC remover wipes, and it comes off just fine.

Mascara -Maybelline - Unstoppable Mascara [DISCONTINUED]
she_thinks_it 8/26/2006 1:52:00 PM
I really have only two requirements for mascara: It must be tearproof and stand up to contact lens solution, because I wear hard contacts and usually have to rewet them at least once a day, and it must not smudge. This mascara failed on both occasions, and brought other problems along with it. I did like the brush and it looked pretty good on one or two coats, but it took absolutely forever to dry and I had to sit around and wait for it before I did anything else with my eye makeup or it would clump horribly. If my eye teared for whatever reason, it came off immediately. For Maybelline mascaras, Lash Discovery is still the best.

Fragrances -Clean - Pure Perfume Oil
she_thinks_it 5/1/2005 12:29:00 AM
The good: I like the packaging, because it won't spill in my makeup bag. I also like the smell: On drydown, it doesn't turn on me and the scent stays very clean and fresh. Some of the Clean scents are too citrusy for me, but this one is really very just-out-of-the-shower. I got the $25 size, which is a little small for the price, but I've seen worse. The bad: It stays slimy on your skin for a while. Even after it supposedly dries, my skin still feels oily. It's also not as strong as I thought a perfume oil should be. I had to make an effort to smell it on myself after it dried. Get someone who loves you very much to buy you the EDP.

Fragrances -Demeter - Laundromat Pick Me Up Spray
she_thinks_it 5/1/2005 12:23:00 AM
Wet: I don't know how they did it, but this smells exactly like my parents' laundry room. It's very clean and fresh, which I like. On the drydown, it actually smells more ozone-y or marine, which isn't necessarily bad but it's definitely odd for a clean linen fragrance. Overall, I like it a lot, but I wish it were cleaner on the drydown.

Moisturizers -Philosophy - Hope in a Jar - for all skin types
she_thinks_it 4/23/2005 8:27:00 PM
Overall, this is a nice moisturizer, but I'm glad I got it in a swap instead of paying $38 for it. I do like the texture, and it goes on smoothly, but I don't see what it does that a lower-end moisturizer wouldn't.
