Moisturizers -Clinique - Dramatically Different Moisturizing Gel
shard 10/12/2007 2:20:00 AM
I adore this. I've been using it for years, it's the only lotion I'll put on my face because it's the only thing that doesn't make me oily. I love the texture - very light, gel, absorbs quickly. Makes the skin very soft but not at all greasy or dewy.

Lotions/ Creams -Curel - Ultra Healing Daily Moisture Therapy Lotion
shard 10/11/2007 10:51:00 PM
I actually discovered this by accident, I was searching for a lotion that smelled decent and lasted 24 hours. I opened the small bottle of this to smell it and managed to squirt a huge glob of it onto myself unintentionally, so I figured what the hell and rubbed it on my hands. I walked down the next aisle and could not stop feeling the skin on my hands - it was the softest I'd ever felt, so smooth. Didn't even feel like my skin. I have oily skin, but I work in food service so my hands are always dry after work from washing so often. I was so impressed I went back and bought a bottle. I like how it smells, like oranges or orange peels. Very nice. Also I looked at the ingredients and found it does not contain any parabens, which is what I was looking for in a long lasting lotion as well.

Brows -Clinique - Brow Shaper
shard 7/25/2007 3:38:00 PM
I have this in charcoaled, my hair is medium brown but my eyelashes and brows are black. This powder is pretty much fool proof because of how light it goes on. Plus the shade is flattering for anyone with brown to black eyebrows, as it's very lightly pigmented. Which is good, with too much pigment the brows start looking quite unnatural. This goes on and looks entirely natural. I have some overplucked areas in my brows that need filling in, and using a pencil has never worked well on me, so this is pretty much perfect. No harsh lines at all. I have no idea what I'll do if they ever discontinue it. I don't use the tiny brush that cmes with it, I just use a slim slanted eyeliner brush, I find that works best. Plus I've had this for about a year and a half and I still haven't gotten to the bottom of the pan, lasts VERY long.

Scrubs -St. Ives - Apricot Scrub
shard 6/15/2007 2:53:00 PM
I used to LOVE this product, until they changed the formula recently. On the bottle it says 'new scent, same formula', but something other than the scent changed. It doesn't leave my skin as wonderfully smooth afterwards as the old version did. And I cannot STAND that smell. It is strong as hell, and it's just overly annoying. Very obnoxious. I am not buying this again. In fact, I went to Walmart the other day just so I could buy the cheap Equate version they sell of this, because at least then it doesn't have that terrible smell.

Lotions/ Creams -Kiss My Face - Olive & Aloe Moisturizer
shard 6/8/2007 2:51:00 PM
To me this smell reminds me of cinnamon raisin toast. I have no idea why, it just does. It's a light spicy kind of scent, it fades too in case you don't particularly enjoy it. I don't know what aloe or olive are supposed to smell like on their own, but yeah.. this lotion is a scent I enjoy, plus it absorbed quickly into my skin (I have oily skin). I think a truer test of it's moisturizing qualities would be for me to use it in winter, but for now, I enjoy it as a basic body moisturizer after I get out of the shower. Haven't tried it on my face, but I would really only ever use my Clinique Dramatically Different gel there.

Gels/Soaps -Caress - Exotic Oil Infusions Moroccan Cream Oil Body Wash [DISCONTINUED]
shard 6/8/2007 2:46:00 PM
I've passed this in the aisles so many times, and finally bought it last night. I adore it. It's a very warm scent, with just a hint of spice. Nothing too overpowering. Personally I think it complements my vanilla body spray really well, as they are similar scents. I've always preferred warm food-ish smells rather than fruity or floral, and this body wash is divine. Some reviewer mentioned it smelling of chai tea, which is what made me want to buy it, and I definitely agree; it smells like a mix of chai, vanilla, and spice. I'm not sure how well the moisturizing is because I have quite oily skin. Though I can say it did not make my oily skin greasy or unpleasant, just soft and smooth. Which, now that it is summer, is very good, my skin is even oilier in hotter months. The bottle looks so pretty in my shower too. I'm big on packaging that looks good as well as functional. Very happy with this product.

Lotions/ Creams -Kiss My Face - peaches and creme moisturizer
shard 6/8/2007 2:37:00 PM
Would I buy this product again? I love how that's the last question they ask you on the review form. My answer being a very enthusiastic OH DEAR GOD NO. I was trying out different lotions in my local health food store, and when I came across the tester bottle of this. I thought it smelled so good! Like actual, fresh peaches. Then I bought a bottle, brought it home, took a shower that evening and the INSTANT I put it on afterwards, it smelled terrible. And continued to smell terrible throughout the evening, so much so that I had to actually take a second shower just to wash it all off. I left it on thinking maybe it was a poor scent at first, but then faded. It didn't. I don't know how to appropriately describe the smell other than... if peaches could have B.O., that's what they'd smell like. I'm not even kidding, it smelled like a foul combination of RIPE B.O. and rotten peach.

Deodorants -Kiss My Face - Liquid Rock Deodorant
shard 6/5/2007 12:59:00 AM
I'm still in shock at the fact that this actually works. I've tried plenty of deodorants before that had no anti perspeiant/almunium or were all natural organic and they were just useless, I smelled bad after like... two hours. So I figured I was just doomed to forever wear aluminum anti-perspirants because they were the only kind that actually worked. Based on the VERY positive reviews here, I thought what the hell, I'll give it a try, it's really cheap. I put it on after a shower, it takes a while to dry which might be the only SLIGHT downside, but I don't really mind. Then I went about my day, I figured working out that night would be the true test. And MIRACULOUSLY, it kept me smelling exactly like I had just come out of the shower. After about two hours of sweating. And on into the next morning. Again, miraculous in my opinion seeing as that never even happened when I wore my normal anti-perspirant. So not only does it work, it actually out preforms the normal ones I tried (degree, secret, lady mitchum). I have the fragrance free one, and it really leaves no scent whatsoever behind, I figured it was a safer bet than getting a scented one that I ended up hating the smell of.

Skincare - Body -Avalon Organics Botanicals - Moisturing Creme Shave in Aloe Unscented
shard 6/3/2007 10:15:00 PM
I absolutely love this. It gives me a PERFECT shave. I can't stand shave gels since I found they create a lot of lather and foam but what protects my skin better and helps the razor glide better (which for me is most important), I've found, is a non foaming slick kind of substance. Which is what the Avalon shave creme is. And previously I'd just been using Dove shower gel. Which worked but not as well as I'd like for sensitive areas like my underarms and bikini zone. My body hair is very thick/coarse and so I hate having to really SCRAPE the razor over my skin in order to make sure I got a close shave. This shave cream eliminates that entirely. The smell is something I just ignore. It's nothing wonderful, but after a few moments you can't really tell. It smells the way most 'fragrance free' products do. Which doesn't really bother me since it goes down the drain anyway and doesn't linger on the skin. I took a point off for the bottle size. It's a bit small, for the price, and for how much you end up using to shave.

Cleansers -Philosophy - Purity Made Simple (Real Purity Cleanser)
shard 6/1/2007 4:22:00 PM
I'm so surprised at how much this product did NOT work for me. Based on all the reviews, and it sounded like the cleanser I had been looking for - one that removes makeup fully. Because I don't like using a MU remover, then still having to wash my face afterwards. It hardly removed any of my makeup. I wear Estee Lauder Maximum Cover as concealer, and their Double Wear foundation. So, pretty heavy duty there. Then the rest is just a non-waterproof mascara, some eye shadow, and powder. Anyway, I was shocked at the amount of foundation gunk left on my cotton ball when I used my toner right afterwards, as well as eye makeup. I think maybe better results would come from washing for a full 60 sec, like it suggests on the bottle but honestly that is TOO LONG for me to be sitting there rubbing that stuff over my face, there is only so much skin to cover after all. So for the price, I am very irritated that this failed to perform.

Conditioner -Infusium 23 - Moisturizing Revitalizing Condition
shard 2/4/2007 8:07:00 PM
I have medium thick hair that is oily. For some reason I could never get a brush through it completely; it wasn't tangled it just ..stuck together, toward the ends, for lack of a better term. And dryness wasn't the problem, niether was damage since I literally do nothing to it (no blow drying, no products, cholrine, etc) so for the longest time I'd tried numerous conditioners and leave ins (usually ones listed as being for dry hair) trying to find one that made it so that I could run my fingers through it without any tugging, seriously that's all I wanted; and this is the ONLY product that does that to my hair. It makes the hair smooth enough that brushes and combs just slip right through. I may have to switch to a more lighter conidtioner (still infusium, since I won't even bother with anything else now) during the summer, as I think this formula would weight it down with the excess oil I get in the hotter months. Also, it has a smell that kind of reminds me of roses. I didn't like it at first, but it grew on me. And regardless, the scent fades from your hair after a couple hours so even if you hate it, it's not there to stay.

Concealers -Prescriptives - Flawless Skin Total Protection Concealer
shard 1/9/2007 3:00:00 PM
I think this concealer would be fantastic for skin ..other than mine. I bought it, and absolutely loved the coverage, it is very good for covering redness from acne. But the consistency is what made it not work for me. I have to have liquid, in concealers and foundation; otherwise the stuff just cakes up on my face by the end of the day no matter how I apply it, and I've tried many different ways, wanting it to work. It looked good in the morning but isn't reliable enough to last until the afternoon/late day. My skin is oily and I'm not sure if that had anything to do with the caking. I just know that this consistency doesn't work for me. Other than that, the packing is decent, you need a brush to apply it though. Sticking my fingers in there everyday doesn't seem very hygienic, plus you have more even application with a small concealer brush. This would probably work better with dry/normal skin; where you don't have to worry about oil smearing off/disturbing your makeup.

Crème -Estee Lauder - Maximum Cover
shard 1/9/2007 2:47:00 PM
My skin - Oily. Yellow undertones. Acne marks (very red). Quite pale in winter. This stuff is wonderful. I bought it the first time 2 years ago after my last tube of Maybelline Great Wear concealer was discontinued, and that was the only full coverage concealer I'd found in drugstores. After reading the reviews here I decided to try it, and I was thrilled. Great Wear had terrible color selection mainly because I've found most drugstore brands tend to have more pinkish undertones rather than yellow, but the Estee Lauder Max Cover matched my skin much better. It's more of a yellow I think, which works great for me; but could also work with neutral skintones or pink, if mixed with other shades. I do not use this as a foundation though. With how thick it is, it is perfect for concealing ANYTHING (I have very pale skin in winter and my red acne marks seem to show through any concealer except the Max. Cover), but I think if spread on my entire face it would look mask-like. This stayed put all day. In fact, it is hell actually getting it OFF at the end of the day, if you don't have the right make up remover. I guess I'm lucky in that the shades Creamy Ivory (for winter) and Creamy Vanilla (for summer) both match my skin enough that I don't have to mix them with other shades. I also wear this ON TOP of foundation. As I think you should with any concealer, it's much easier and more reliable. I apply this with my fingertip, dabbing the area; never using a rubbing back and forth motion; when I do that it ends up looking odd or cakey.
