Hair Color -L'Oreal - Healthy Look Creme Gloss Color
sephora0205 10/7/2011 11:46:00 AM
I have been severely disappointed by the two newest L'oreal hair colouring products (sublime mousse and healthy look). The colours turn out at least 3 - 4 shades darker than advertised. My natural hair is black and I colour my hair every 2 months. It was a medium brown with light brown highlights, turning brassy. Bought Healthy Look in Med. ash brown to tone down the brassiness. The formula is drippier than other boxed dyes but it was not horrible. The result is...awful! My hair turned out BLACK! I know my hair is more porous but this is not acceptable. Hair is matte with what feels like film - I washed my hair with shampoo + baking soda 3 times right after and the film-likeness is still there. I have to say this is probably the worst dye I have ever bought. Do not buy this. What a waste of money and time...
foundation tend not to stay on my face longer than 3 - 4 hours. was searching for long lasting foundation that does not look too heavy and i think i found one. it has a semi-matte finish and does not feel heavy on the skin. i can also use less concealer because of its medium/full coverage. pros: quick and easy application blends beautifully shade 83 matches me perfectly (nc 25/30) no darkening stays on for 7 - 8 hours! cons: i live in canada and $28CDN is tad high for non HE foundation brush is sold separately ($15 CDN) packaging is flimsy overall i am very happy with this foundation and plan to repurchase.
Liquid -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Liquid Makeup SPF 20 (2009 formulation)
sephora0205 11/13/2010 1:36:00 PM
Love this foundation! I have NARS, MAC, BE, Clinique to Maybelline foundations and the neutrogena one is the one I reach for most often. It is so easy to blend - I use my fingers so not to waste with a sponge. The finish is dewy but not slick and I have an oily T-zone. Love the glow it gives and it really is comparable to NARS Sheer Glow. For reference, I am MAC NC 30 and use shade 60 in Neutrogena. Only gripe is the large opening of the jar and no pump. The lasting power of this foundation is average. I need to touch up with powder by about 4 - 5 hours of wear. It does make my skin look better.
Pros: great coverage and semi-matte dewy finish. The foundation lasts for a long time on my combination skin and i can forgo concealer for daily use. Cons: it broke my cheeks out in 2 days! I never have reaction to foundations (liquid, creme, or powder). I was so disappointed that it broke me out this bad and it's taking more than a week to heal. arrggh.
okay, i should have heeded the advice from here... i just colored my hair last night - the condition of my hair was not the best and i knew this as i dye my hair often. the color had faded to medium brown which was too light for me. i used 415 - dark opalescent brown. because my hair was light, i did not think that it will come out as dark as it did. granted it gave me shine, but my hair is now that overdyed black with patches of dark brown. the dark brown spots look nice but i don't want patches of anything in my hair. the formula is indeed drip free and smells great. but the result is not what i wanted. i washed my hair 3 times with clarifying shampoo but no fading here. will have to go back to my trusty Prettia bubble color (permanent hair dye) to lift this. PS. semi-demi permanent color will never lighten your hair for those who griped about it doing nothing to make their lighter.
I just bought my 3rd bottle of this moisturizer + sunscreen. I have used Olay Complete for a long time but was looking for something that had a higher SPF. I first saw and bought this from Winners for under $10. This is not greasy or heavy at all - the scent is light and the texture is more like gel than lotion. I love the fact it does not make me oily like a separate sunscreen would. The lotion really helps keep my face moist. I have not had any skin troubles. Every morning I pump 2 pump and spread it all over my face. It absorbs very quickly. I love saving the extra step in the morning when I am rushed all the time Bought the second bottle at Walmart for $15 - a bit expensive but think it it worth every penny and just bought a 3rd bottle again at Winners. The bottle isn't anything fancy (typical plastic bottle of a drugstore moisturizer) except for it having 2 separate chambers.
it took me a while to be convinced of buying this foundation because of its hefty price tag ($55 CDN). i have been a faithful BE/Everyday minerals girl for 3 - 4 years but notice they were caking on me. was looking for a foundation that will provide medium coverage but that will not turn orange and disappear because of my oily T-zone. Sheer Glow is does all this and more! it goes on perfectly with just a dab - coverage is fantastic - i don't really need to use concealer for everyday;it does provide glow to the face without making it look overly shiny. i do need to use oil blotting film about 5 hours after wearing the foundation, which is better than most foundation. has not caused any breakouts and i do think it has made my skin softer. just like with other reviews, a pump would be handy but not having one would not stop me from buying it again. i like using my finger to apply this as i can control the coverage better. for reference, i use mac studio fix fluid in NC 30 (which was too yellow for my skin tone) and am using Punjab. Barcelona is doable but a bit dark.
Awesome, awesome! This really dries your nails in 30 - 60 seconds and keeps them looking shiny for at least 5 days. Makes my french manicured nails look very professional. The top coat is thick and creates a great shield for my polish. Love it! Must buy for nail lovers.
Tools -Nailene - Perfect French Tip Manicure Guides
sephora0205 6/2/2010 2:28:00 PM
Nailene guides are so much better than Salley Hensen ones. They used to look identical with very slight curve, making the french tips look almost straight on the nails. The new ones I just picked up were only $2.50 CDN on sale and had smaller with better curvature. The stickers stick well to the nails so there is minimal bleeding. I use the straight ones for my toes. So glad to have found such cheap but useful tool!
Liquid -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Enriched w/ Minerals
sephora0205 10/21/2009 1:36:00 PM
This is a great foundation that actually lasts and provides good coverage. Currently I have Clinique Even Better, MUF Mat Velvet, Everyday Mineral and Etude Collagen pact and this Rimmel foundation is what I reach for most often. It is easy to find at drugstores and cheap. But more than anything, it is a great foundation - better than department store brands; my skin looks dewy, not dry and I don't need separate concealer to cover most of the spots/scars. The foundation does not darken on my oily skin and does stay true for about 10 - 12 hours. Only gripe is the available shades - using True Beige for my NC30 skin - which is a tad too light. The next shade is a bit too pink.
Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse Permanent Creme Hair Color
sephora0205 3/21/2009 12:59:00 AM
color used: milk chocolate (medium ash brown) i just colored my hair and can't stop touching it - it is softer and shinier than before i colored! i have been coloring my hair for over 10 years and i always come back to nutrisse. i have used other brown shades (chocolate caramel, which i love, and cappuccino))and have gotten great results. i wanted to go lighter this time and the resulting color on my very dark brown hair is darker than the box (as expected) but is beautiful brown with very little red. love the non-drip formula;only boxed color with low spill problem. will be repurchasing for sure.
Moisturizers -Neutrogena - Healthy Skin Anti-Wrinkle Intensive Night Cream
sephora0205 2/17/2009 6:32:00 PM
I am on 3rd tube of this great night time moisturizer (and the next one waiting in my drawer). I have oily skin and night creams usually make me break out. But this Retinol formula has never caused any break outs and made my skin feel baby soft. I didn't have noticeble wrinkles or anything but people do comment on how young my skin looks. Lotion is very easy to use, with no fragrance and makes the skin feel moisturized. The little bumps on my face have decreased as well. Not sure if the lotion lightens any pigmentation, but my skin tone looks brighter overall. I have now bought a tube for my mom as well.
Generally CG waterproof mascaras are good. They tend to smudge but do the job of curling my straight lashes. Lash Blast has been a disappointment; the brush is too fat to fit my lashes. Maybe CG wanted to be like Dior Show with a fat brush, but CG missed the mark. The bristles are too short and it does not give any volume, just some length. Only reason I am keeping it is to use with my Shiseido base (which makes any mascara awesome). I also found the applicator to be to big for my hand - not too comfortable.
Mascara -Shiseido - The Makeup Mascara Base [DISCONTINUED]
sephora0205 4/25/2008 5:10:00 PM
for someone who uses waterproof mascara, i didn't think that this base would do anything. i was wrong. while it is a pricey product, the performance is great. the base has no water as an ingredient, therefore, it will curl and hold the shape (especially for straight lashes)for a long time like waterproof mascara. i can use a regular mascara with the base - it has definitely given me more defined, longer lashes. not so much with volume, though. it also minimizes smudging. i used it with cover girl lash blast waterproof (which always gives me panda eyes) and my lashes looked perfect until i took them off at night. definitely a great addition to my eye makeup wardrobe!
Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Replenishing Lip Balm with Pomegranate Oil
sephora0205 4/25/2008 5:01:00 PM
i like the pomegranate oil one because of its fruity scent and the light sheen and tint it gives. this lip balm is long lasting without feeling waxy like the others. the price is on the higher side ($4.99) in canada but got it on sale for $3.50. bought both this one and the honey lip balm.
