Moisturizers -Neostrata - Smoothing Cream Level 1
rated 1 of 5

I tried the 4% cream thinking it would be a safe bet but it was so incredibly drying and it stung a lot when I applied it. I then tried the Reversa 8% cream and it was absolutely comfortable and non drying. The sales person said that the two brands were comparable. I don't understand the difference! This is not a good choice at all.

Moisturizers -La Roche Posay - Effaclar H Compensating Sothing Moisturizer
rated 4 of 5

This is the only moisturizer that provides enough moisture to revive my sensitive and acne prone skin. Even though it's a little bit shiney, most other moisturizers don't provide enough moisture and I end up with flakes and peeling skin. It's very soothing and feels wonderful. It's a bit expensive for such a small tube but I use it only for my really dry spots and until I find something better, I will stay with it.

I wish this had worked for me since so many people said that it kept their skin clear. It didn't do anything for me as far as I can tell and I used it for a month or so.

Cleansers -La Roche Posay - Effaclar Purifying Gel Cleanser

When I first used this, I thought it was great--it lathers up really well and you only have to use a very tiny amount. However, after using it for a couple of weeks I realized that it's much too drying and pretty harsh. One more thing to note is that it seems a bit "rough" on your skin. It's not "slippery" like soap should be and the sales person said it's because it has no surfactants to make it feel slippery. Supposedly surfactants can irritate your skin but even so, it was too harsh for me.

Styling Products -L'Oreal - Studio FX Architect Wax
rated 4 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 11:05:00 PM

Using this stuff by itself is a bit sticky and too heavy if you want it to do everything (make hair shiny, light, non-static-y, structured, etc.) but it smells OK and it works well when I use it in combination with Biosilk. My hair is thick, Asian, straight, and just past shoulder length. Here's what I do: I have been putting a VERY small amount of Biosilk on first to make my hair shiny and then using L'oreal Studio FX Architect Wax (which is more like a gel). I use the Studio FX to lift my roots from the underneath layers and to "piece out" a little bit. It works well on my flyaways also. Just don't put too much on or it will make your hair look greasy. A plus is that if I do it in this order, the Studio FX on my hands allows the Biosilk to wash off super easily! Woohoo!

This is not the miracle that I thought it would be after reading the reviews. It smells like strangely sweet plastic and it makes your hands very greasy -- takes a lot to wash it off. My hair is think, straight, Asian hair, just past shoulder length. I like that it makes your hair look shiney but it doesn't seem to moisturize. My static flyaways don't go away unless I put on too much and then my roots look greasy so that is not a solution. There is a very fine balance between putting on enough and using too much of this stuff. However, I have found a compromise: I have been putting a VERY small amount this on to make my hair shiny and then using L'oreal Studio FX Architect Wax (which is more like a gel). I use the Studio FX to lift my roots and to "piece out" a little bit. It works well on my flyaways also. A plus is that if I do it in this order, the Studio FX on my hands allows the Biosilk to wash off super easily! Woohoo!

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - Wear Infinite Quad - Autumn Leaves
rated 5 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 10:45:00 PM

This is my favourite eyeshadow. The pigment is strong, the colours are accurate, pretty, and natural, and the slight shimmer in the colours allows for easy blending. They are amazing and the price is right. The only thing I don't like is that the packaging is flimsy. I have owned 6-8 of these and at least two of the lids have broken off less than a couple weeks after I bought them.

Eye Shadow -Cargo - London quad palette
rated 2 of 5

I have medium coloured skin but this stuff didn't last at all and I used it over Urban Decay primer. The pigment was so poor that it looked like it had faded as soon as I applied it. Also, the purple colour looked so vibrant in the palette but it looked gray on my skin--I will never buy this product again. The price was very high.

Eye Primer -Urban Decay - Eyeshadow Primer Potion - Original (UDPP)
rated 4 of 5

This product works very well. One of my eyelids produces more oil than the other so if I don't use this, by 11:00 am, I look like I forgot to apply eye shadow to one eye. A tiny bit goes a VERY long way. Don't over apply! Yes, the package is a pain but we can consult Youtube for the answer. I will continue to use it for a long time!

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Reversa
rated 4 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 10:20:00 PM

This review is for: Reversa UV Anti-Wrinkle Fluid (vs. the cream) SPF 15, 8% glycolic acid I tried this on the advice of the beauty counter tech and it is wonderful. I dislike how the natural formula for SPF is greasy and shiny. This is the most non-greasy and non-shiny formula I have ever tried. It's incredibly light and feels wonderful on the skin. It's winter time so I have used a bit of moisturizer on top but in the summer time I will wear it by itself. I am also impressed with the Reversa Acne Serum. I stumbled upon this brand simply because I was breaking out all over (I'm acne prone/combo/oily) and I was desperate to try something so I went to London Drugs and the lady recommended this line as well as Neostrata. This was on sale so I bought it. I am impressed.

Styling Products -TRESemme - Tres Two Ultra Fine Mist Hairspray
rated 4 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 10:11:00 PM

This is the best hairspray for flexible hold and it is incredibly priced! A very light mist works wonders for giving my bangs a side-swept look with a tiny bit of hold. The smell is horribly strong but I think that is true for most hair sprays.

Styling Products -John Frieda - Frizz-Ease Hair Serum
rated 5 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 10:06:00 PM

I have thick, straight Asian hair. When I had a perm (spiral curls), this was THE BEST product! Make sure that your hair is still wet when you apply it to get it evenly distributed. I found that I needed quite a bit so the fact that it comes in such a tiny bottle made it very expensive. However, it was so great at defining the curl when I used my diffuser to dry my hair. It left the hair shiny and smooth looking, even with the dryness of the perm. I would definitely recommend it.

Styling Products -Matrix - Vavoom Freezing Spray
rated 4 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 10:02:00 PM

I like that you can still manipulate the hair after you spray this on. Don't put too much on--just use it on your roots and lift it a bit to get volume and tease. It's great for that. I agree that the smell isn't so great but it's not horrible either. It's no worse than any other hairspray. It's not a good choice if you want maximum hold. It's a bit pricey though.

Treatments -Neutrogena - Oil-Free Acne Stress Control 3-in-1 Hydrating Acne Treatment [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
sdmchan 1/10/2010 9:28:00 PM

When I first tried this product I noticed a difference right away and it wasn't drying like many other things I had tried. I have acne-prone/combo/oily skin, whiteheads, and cycstic acne on my chin. I do not react well to benzol peroxide products (they dry my skin too much) so I tried this for the salisylic acid content. However, after a few months I felt like it wasn't working anymore. I put on more but that just dried out my skin too much and the acne wasn't better. So it's worth a short try.

Concealers -Make Up For Ever - Full Cover Concealer
rated 3 of 5

This concealer slipped off my face easily and it ended up turning slightly darker in my uneven/scarred areas. It looks like others like it a lot but I cannot say the same.
