Mascara -BeneFit Cosmetics - They're Real
rated 5 of 5
scooter 1/7/2012 10:17:00 AM

This has become my go-to mascara. I have dark brown lashes, but they're kind of short and skimpy. This stuff seems to lengthen and thicken them pretty well with one coat, and two coats makes them huge. I've found that it can be a tad clumpy, but it's nothing that can't be fixed with a good eyelash comb. No flakes and no smearing, and it doesn't irritate my eyes (I wear contacts). I'm not excited about the price since mascara is basically disposable, but I'll buy it again.

Cleansers -Boscia - MakeUp-BreakUp Cool Cleansing Oil
rated 5 of 5
scooter 7/13/2011 8:25:00 PM

This is the best makeup remover and cleanser I've ever used, and I've used quite a few. It removes ALL of my makeup, including waterproof mascara and long-wear foundation, and it rinses clean after just a few splashes of water. Doesn't cause breakouts or clog my pores, and the minty/herbal fragrance isn't overpowering. Just make sure you don't lose the little clip (it's attached to the pump when you first open the box) if you plan to travel with this stuff. Keeps it pretty secure and doesn't leak. My only complaint is the $26 price for something that gets rinsed right off, but it's a necessary evil for a product that truly works. I just ordered my fourth bottle.

Hair -L'Oreal - Elnett Hairspray
rated 1 of 5

I can honestly say that I have never used a hair product that reeked as much as this one. Luckily, it provides absolutely no hold and leaves a visible film on my dark hair, so I'll never be tempted to use it again. And the "brush out" part? The second I touched my hair with a brush, it turned into a crazy, staticky mess. Maybe it works for other people, but it was a stinky disaster on my fine, straight hair.

Liquid -MAC - Studio Fix Fluid SPF 15
rated 5 of 5
scooter 2/11/2009 6:04:00 PM

I was reluctant to try this after reading so many mixed reviews for MAC foundations in general, but after the MA used it on me during my recent visit to the MAC counter, I took a sample home for a test drive. I fell in love and bought a bottle a few days later. Great coverage without being cakey or mask-like on my combo skin, and it doesn't seem to clog my pores or cause breakouts (I'm acne prone). I've applied it with a brush and with the SK blending sponge with great resutls. Lasts all day on me without turning orange, and as long as I use a little powder in the morning, I don't get shiny until really late in the day. I'm an NC20, and #118 in MUFE HD, for what it's worth.

Self Tanners -Neutrogena - MicroMist Tanning (Medium 2 shades darker)
rated 1 of 5
scooter 4/18/2006 12:48:00 PM

What a streaky, patchy, orange nightmare! I bought this because the "mist" method of application sounded more convenient than lotions or mousses. So, so wrong. The "mist" is more like a powerful blast of aerosol. If you hold the can the recommended 6 inches away while applying, you literally spray stripes of self tanner onto your skin. If you hold it more than 6 inches away, the spray goes everywhere BUT onto your skin. I ended up spraying it closely, then rubbing it in...the whole time thinking, "I could have saved $10 and just used my regular ST lotion". I'm sitting here The Day After admiring the stripes of orange that cover my legs. I've been using self tanner for years, so I'm far from a novice. After reading the reviews about how long this crap lasts, I'm scared that I'm going to have to do some serious scrubbing and praying to get it off.

Lip Treatments -Clinique - Repairwear Intensive Lip Treatment
rated 1 of 5
scooter 4/1/2006 11:05:00 PM

This stuff is SUCH a ripoff. It doesn't even last twenty minutes on my lips, and it doesn't feel all that great while it's on. I've tried following the directions (apply once in the morning and once at night), and I've tried using it like a normal lip balm (throughout the day as needed), and it just doesn't do anything. My lips are left flaky and gross everytime I use it, and they weren't bad to begin with. I can't believe I paid $25 for this crap. I get better results from my $.99 tube of Carmex.

Cleansers -Olay - Total Effects Anti Aging Anti Blemish Cleanser
rated 3 of 5
scooter 2/18/2006 9:46:00 AM

After using this for several weeks, I'm not thrilled with this cleanser. The packaging is great: a plastic tube with a flip-top. The scent is nice: sort of fruity, but mild. The price is reasonable ($7-ish). The consistancy is creamy with tiny scrubby things in it (they're not harsh at all). I've found that this cleanser just doesn't remove my makeup, even if I use a washcloth with it. I still have to go over my face several times with toner before all traces of makeup are gone. It's also done nothing to help my mild breakouts. It seems to be making my very fine lines look worse, because it's slightly drying to my combo skin, and the dryness instantly ages my face. I might continue to use it in the morning (when I have no makeup to remove) until the tube is finished, but I won't repurchase unless I start seeing better results.

Concealers -Maybelline - Instant Age Rewind Concealer [DISCONTINUED]
rated 2 of 5
scooter 2/18/2006 9:35:00 AM

I bought this based on the reviews here. After using it for a few weeks, I'm less than impressed. The packaging is perfect: a transparent plastic squeeze tube. The price is also reasonable. I had a great color match in Light. But the product itself isn't great. I needed something to cover my undereye circles, which aren't very dark. The consistancy of the concealer is sort of thin, and it's tricky to apply without it looking cakey and weird. I've tried using my fingers, a brush, and a sponge, but I still can't figure out how to get it right. It also highlighted some flakiness and fine lines, which I didn't realize I had until I used this concealer. The worst part: it didn't conceal anything. You could tell that I had cakey makeup under my eyes, and you could also tell that I had circles. Not what I was hoping for.

Toners -Pro Activ - Revitalizing Toner
rated 5 of 5
scooter 9/24/2005 7:58:00 PM

This is my favorite part of the 3-step system. Yes, it can burn if you have tiny scrapes or irritation on your face, but like the other reviewer pointed out, it's acid. It removes the traces of makeup that my cleanser leaves behind, and it seems to help with flakiness and uneven texture. I love that it doesn't contain alcohol and doesn't have an obnoxious scent. My only complaint is the price, but it's been worth it for me.

Fragrances -Dragonfly Blue - Kismet
rated 5 of 5
scooter 7/31/2005 4:50:00 PM

Perfect! I agree that it has a clean, fabric softener quality, but it has a lot more depth. It seems to have a green-ish note...almost like grass. I absolutely love it. Extremely long-lasting and inexpensive. I can honestly say that Lysa at Dragonfly Blue provides the best customer service I have ever experienced, EVER. She seems to truly care about her customers. Her packaging is incredible, too! :)

Stick -Max Factor - PAN - STICK
rated 4 of 5
scooter 7/4/2005 12:46:00 PM

I'll mention the stuff I DON'T like about this product first. The color selection is horrible (mostly pink and orange shades), and you have no idea what you're buying until you get it home. You have to judge by the picture on the package. I'm also bothered by the scent. It's powdery and really strong whe first applied. One more thing, it tends to cling to flakes and rough spots. BUT, I love this stuff anyway. If I blend with my fingers, the coverage is very heavy, which is what I need on bad skin days. Usually, I blend with a damp sponge, which makes my skin look perfect. Great coverage that looks completely natural. Applied with a concealer brush, it covers blemishes really well. Without powder, it's a little dewy. With powder, it's matte but natural. I'm oily and somewhat acne-prone, and PanStik hasn't caused breakouts (after nine months of continuous use). If you're lucky enough to find a great color match (I use True Beige), this stuff is wonderful.

Cleansers -Alba Botanica - Hawaiian Pineapple Enzyme Facial Cleanser
rated 3 of 5
scooter 5/28/2005 1:40:00 PM

The only thing I love about this cleanser is the pineapple scent. Other than that, it's totally average for the price. It doesn't completely remove my makeup, it tends to be drying if I use it too many times in a row, and the packaging isn't convenient for travel. I'm not sure if it's the culprit in my recent round of breakouts, but it certainly isn't clearing them up. For $10, you can probably find something better, IMO.

Shampoo -Pantene - Brunette Expressions Shampoo
rated 5 of 5
scooter 5/28/2005 11:13:00 AM

I have fine, dark brown hair, and I occasionally use semi-permanent color. I LOVE this shampoo, and that's a big deal for this Pantene-hater. It leaves my hair shiny and healthy-looking without making it too soft or limp. I can't pinpoint the scent (light floral, maybe?), but it smells clean and it's not overpowering. I'll definitely repurchase.

Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Non-Oily Eye Makeup Remover Pads
rated 2 of 5
scooter 5/28/2005 11:08:00 AM

I have mixed feelings about this product. I like that they're non-oily, but they're not very effective. I end up using three or four pads just to remove non-waterproof mascara, and I definitely don't wear much. Removing waterproof mascara with them is even worse. They don't irritate my eyes or cloud up my contacts, so I don't HATE them, but they don't work well enough for me to repurchase.

Eye Makeup Remover -Almay - Dual Phase Eye Makeup Remover
rated 5 of 5
scooter 5/28/2005 11:03:00 AM

This is my favorite eye makeup remover, and I've tried a million of them. I wear contacts and waterproof mascara, and this stuff takes EVERYTHING off without clouding up my contacts or irritating my eyes. I'm actually surprised that I like it so much, because I usually don't care for oily removers. What works for me is to use this stuff before I use my normal cleanser. The cleanser takes care of any oily residue, which is pretty minimal to begin with. My only complaint is the horrible child-proof cap, but I think its main purpose to is prevent leaks. I will buy this product until they stop making it!
