Eye Shadow -MAC - Pigment in Tan
rated 4 of 5
sassy513 1/10/2010 6:08:00 PM

This is my first pigment I've tried from MAC. I was looking for a enhanced "tan" bronzy look that would compliment my olive skintone. Upon application I realized this pigment does not show up as much as I would have liked on my skintone. It gives me more of a nude shimmery look which is still great only not the look I intended. I will continue to use the pigment since it is a flattering color but continue to look for a pigment that has a little more color payoff. For reference I'm a NC30 or Medium in MSF.

Pressed Powders -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish Natural - Medium
rated 5 of 5
sassy513 1/10/2010 6:04:00 PM

MAC Mineralize Skin Finish in Medium is a great powder type foundation that withstands the day without touchups. I normally use a light concealor around the eye area, nose and chin. Then I will lightly apply this powder with a big fluffy brush to even everything out and set the concealor. It provides buildable coverage that looks very natural and also photographs without any problems (looking at you Studio Fix). I used NC25 in Studio Fix and orginally began using MSF in Light/Medium which made me look pale. Medium is a great color match as recommended by a MAC makeup artist. Also the product tends to last me about 6 months with daily use which is great!

Highlighters -Clinique - Fresh Bloom Allover Colour Almond Blossom
rated 4 of 5
sassy513 1/10/2010 5:55:00 PM

So I just had to try a highlighter since I have not previously owned one. I received this product in the shade Peony which was just too pink so I had to try another shade. Almond Blossom is a great shade for my nc30 olive skintone. I have found it works best as a highlighter to accentuate my cheekbones and brightens the eye area when applied to the eyelid. Just a light dusting will do the trick to give me a subtle but beautiful glowy skin. While expensive, the compact does come with quite a lot of product so I don't anticipate purchasing another anytime in the next century!

Stick -Max Factor - PAN - STICK
rated 5 of 5
sassy513 8/17/2009 10:18:00 PM

This is a great stick foundation. After trying Clinique's City Stick, I have to say I prefer Max Factor. The true beige color is such a great color match for my NC30 skin especially compared to the color selections from Clinique. In the morning I have absolutely no time to myself since I have an 8 month old to entertain while I get ready. I normally use just a swipe of the stick down my t zone area, dab a tiny amount of concealor under my eyes, and top with MSF in medium. This routine makes my makeup last all day (we're talking 10+ hours) with no touch ups! I didn't realize Max Factor was being discontinued....I'll be keeping a close watch at the drugstore in case I have to stockpile it!

I use this product with conjuction to Aveda's Hang Straight. I mix them together, apply to damp hair, and use a diffuser to achieve a head full of touchable waves. Saddly it's been discontinued.......

Styling Products -Aveda - Light Elements Defining Whip
rated 2 of 5
sassy513 7/2/2008 1:14:00 PM

I use this to make my side swept bangs stay put. It does the job and holds them all day without looking stiff or unnatural. I love the lavender scent in the product. The one container will last me a very long time since I only use a tiny bit from it each day on my bangs. Overall, I would not purchase again because I'm sure I could find a similar product that is much less expensive to do the job.

Styling Products -Aveda - Hang Straight [DISCONTINUED]
rated 4 of 5
sassy513 7/2/2008 1:11:00 PM

While the price is high for this product the scent is wonderful which is similar to other Aveda products. I don't particular use this product to help straighten my hair since it is naturally pretty straight. What I do use Hang Straight for is to create a head full of wavy hair. The substance of the formula is light unlike usually heavy creams targeted for curly/wavy hair. The light-weight formula is great to achieve and hold waves with my normal to fine hair. I usually mix with Aveda's Light Elements Finishing Solution (which has been discontinued) for all day hold but touchable sassy waves.

Lotions/ Creams -Tree Hut - Shea Body Butter Hawaiian Kukui
rated 5 of 5
sassy513 7/2/2008 1:04:00 PM

This is a new scent from the Tree Hut line. Unlike the others I adore this scent. It definitely has a beachy coconut scent which reminds me of summertime! It's a bargain for body butter since the price is under $5.00 and can be found at Walmart. Ingredients include 100% pure Shea and Hawaiian Kukui extract.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Patina (Frost)
rated 1 of 5
sassy513 5/11/2008 1:48:00 PM

Patina, Patina, Patina, how I have tried and tried to get this eyeshadow to work for me. I prefer shimmery brown tones with a bit of bronze for a normal eye look. I thought Patina looked beautiful and very similar to Woodwinkded (HG!!!) so I had to purchase. However, after attempting over and over to get this color to work I have given up and will give away. It appears very dull, almost taupey-gray on my olive tone skin. When I put this on whether I have a shimmery base, over a another shadow, or simply by itself I look like I have bruised eyelids. Not Attractive!

Eye Shadow -Estee Lauder - Pure Color Eyeshadow in Bronze
rated 4 of 5
sassy513 5/11/2008 1:43:00 PM

I purchased this bronze color over the Internet b/c they had some great full size free gifts with any Internet purchase. I selected this color based on reviews here but feel it is not exactly for me. Although I normally use bronze colors, mainly from MAC, I haven't previously used anything quite this dark. Normally I'll layer a ligher cream base and apply the bronze shadow on top from lashline to crease. Finally, I'll lighten it up a bit with a dash of Woodwinked (my HG) on top. Overall, I like the achieved look but would not use Bronze by itself b/c it's too dark for my olive skintone.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HiP Concentrated Duo - Mischief
rated 4 of 5
sassy513 5/11/2008 1:38:00 PM

I use the navy shadow provided in this duo as a top layer of navy eyeliner. This makes my eyeliner stay in place and smudge free for an entire work day plus a few hours. The color is a nice alternative to black and makes my brown eyes pop much more when I'm doing a classic or dramatic look. The light gold shadow is a little too yellow looking (which is odd b/c I am olive toned) to use as an entire wash. Often I'll use it sparingly under the brow bone since it has quite a bit of shimmer. Overall, I love the Mischief duo for the Navy Color and will continue to repurchase. FYI: The HIP website offers great makeup looks with recommended products which is how I came across this shadow. I chose the model that has similar coloring and am very satisfied.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HIP Cream Shadow Paint - Witty 813
rated 5 of 5
sassy513 5/11/2008 1:31:00 PM

Overall, I enjoy the Cream Shadow Paints from HIP. Witty is a great neutral medium brown shadow that I use as a base. The color is a slightly enhanced version of my natural eyelid color. For reference I have an olive skintone with yellow undertones and use Medium in Mac's SkinFinish. Initially I used Secretive as a base since it appears the most "safe" of the cream shadow paints as far as color although now it may wash out my darker shadows a little too much. Witty provides a neutral base and keeps the medium-dark shadows intact. This base lasts 10-12 hours which is wonderful.

Eye Shadow -L'Oreal - HIP-Loose Pigment Eye Shadow-Tenacious 848
rated 3 of 5
sassy513 5/11/2008 1:25:00 PM

After using this eyeshadow quite a few times I have mixed feelings. The eyeshadow itself gives a shimmery/glittery neutral look. I like the overall color of the shadow but find it has too much glitter which detracts from its overall appearance. Also, the quality it often coarse; not as finely milled as other loose shadows. I suspect the glitter contributes to the grainy texture of the eyeshadow which makes you work a little more to apply and blend.

Mascara -Max Factor - Volume Couture - Rich Black
rated 5 of 5
sassy513 5/11/2008 1:20:00 PM

I purchased Volume Couture with 2000 Calorie Mascara. As read on the previous reviews this combination gives knockout lashes. They were right! I use Volume Couture for the first coat and apply 2000 Calorie Mascara second. The results are amazing.
