Conditioner -Garnier - Pure-Clean
rated 1 of 5

Back when I was in my no poo phase, I was endlessly searching for good conditioners without -cones. I picked up the massive bottle of this from Target at a very cheap price, which was good. And that's where the good ends. When I was using this in conjunction with a shampoo-free routine, I simply assumed the extra grease was a result of the routine itself, or that it was incompatible with the lighter conditioner I was using to wash with. So I put it at the back of my cabinet. Eventually I went back to shampoo and I have now tried this conditioner with three different shampoos of varying price and quality and it always leaves my hair looking dirty, greasy and gross. I hate having to throw out this much product, but I can't think of a way to salvage this conditioner. Easily one of the worst I've ever used.

Blush -Physicians Formula - Mineral Wear Talc-Free Blush Rosey Glow
rated 5 of 5
sarahvma 11/19/2012 6:15:00 PM

An absolutely perfect blush. Blends into the skin seamlessly and looks natural. This color is particularly beautiful on pale skin. I love this -- this is my HG blush for sure. Only complaint is the cheap-looking packaging. It's similar to the rest of Physician's Formula's line, but the grey base makes it look very low-end.

Crème -Revlon - ColorStay Whipped Creme Makeup
rated 2 of 5

I must be doing something wrong, because when I use this foundation my skin looks "gritty." I've tried it with and without primer, and I still get this very unnatural finish on the skin. I've used a little, used a lot. I just really don't like how artificial it makes me look and I cannot figure out why this seems to be an HG for so many people.

Conditioner -Clairol - Herbal Essences Hello Hydration Moisturizing Conditioner
rated 5 of 5

I'm having such a hard time finding a natural conditioner that holds a candle to Hello Hydration. I love it. My hair is ridiculously soft and shiny when I use it and the price is fantastic. Easily the best conditioner I've ever used.

Lipstick -Revlon - Super Lustrous Lipstick in Red Lacquer (Shanghai Collection)
rated 4 of 5
sarahvma 9/10/2012 10:03:00 PM

Don't be fooled by the promo image with Emma Stone that accompanies the Shanghai Collection -- Red Lacquer is very similar to Revlon's Cha Cha Cherry in that it's a really nice sheer, daytime red but not a rich, opaque red. I do love the color, but I subtracted 1 lipstick from my overall rating because this was represented as a full-coverage color and while I love it, I'm sure plenty of people will feel tricked by the advertising. The lipstick goes on smooth and the wear is okay -- it's definitely not meant to be a long-lasting lip color; it doesn't bleed or feather but will have to be re-applied after eating or drinking. If you are looking for a beautiful, mid-60s semi-sheer daytime red, this is probably the best I've found so far. But if you're looking for a nice, rich, creamy opaque red, keep searching.

Deodorants -Unlisted Brand - Lafes All Natural Deodorant Stick in Lavender
rated 1 of 5
sarahvma 8/31/2012 2:22:00 PM

This is the Britta of deodorants. It is so incredibly nasty. The smell of the patchouli and lavender is actually worse than my body odor. It permeates all of my clothing and makes me smell like the nastiest, ripest onion. This is without a doubt the worst deodorant I have ever used in my life. Avoid at all costs.

Lipstick -NYX - Snow White
rated 4 of 5
sarahvma 3/16/2012 7:52:00 PM

I love this lipstick. It's not a true red, and it's just dark enough to veer into goth territory if you're not careful, but there is something very striking when it's placed with really pale skin. My only complaint is that I think they've slightly changed the pigment. I had this color a couple of years ago through eBay and an American seller, and I do think it used to be a little lighter and brighter. The Canadian version I bought for Halloween (yes, I was playing Snow White), seemed darker, especially when I compared the photos from Halloween to those from a couple of years ago, but it's also possible that I applied it much more thickly. In any event, darker or lighter, it's a great deep red for pale-skinned girls.

Skincare - Body -L'Oreal - Body Expertise Perfect Slim Anti-Cellulite Body Gel
rated 5 of 5
sarahvma 7/18/2010 11:42:00 AM

This product did absolutely nothing for cellulite, but it has been the only cream or gel I have ever used that has made a huge difference in my stretch marks, and for that I'll give it 5 stars. Not only did it take my red stretch marks to white in an incredibly quick time period (a couple of weeks using it every couple of nights), but now my white stretch marks seem less noticeable when I use this. Awesome, awesome product for stretch marks. Highly recommended.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Superior Preference Haircolor in 46: Red Copper Auburn
rated 4 of 5
sarahvma 6/1/2010 5:11:00 PM

L'Oreal Paris's Superior Preference line has finally managed to achieve the perfect red: 46 Red Copper Auburn is the exact color of Joan Holloway's iconic hair on Mad Men -- that perfect natural dark red that doesn't come off as completely unnatural. Better yet, the coverage is fantastic and there's almost no after-smell. The only downside is that the incredibly intense gorgeous red color only lasts for a couple of weeks until it begins to fade -- there's no way to avoid touching this color up every four to six weeks.

Hair Color -Garnier - Herbashine
rated 4 of 5
sarahvma 2/23/2010 2:10:00 AM

Garnier Herbashine may not pack a huge punch as far as color is concerned, but it will leave your hair very soft and very shiny. I used the only remotely red color, 645 Light Copper Mahogany Brown over my already colored medium-to-dark auburn hair. The smell was actually quite pleasant, the application process easy and one box was enough for my shoulder-length, thick hair -- for once. More than anything, I'm pleased at the way my hair feels and would purchase the dye again to maintain my dyed-auburn color and avoid the damage I get from amonia-based dyes.

Lipstick -Maybelline - Color Sensational in Blushing Brunette
rated 4 of 5
sarahvma 10/12/2009 5:03:00 PM

Absolutely gorgeous color -- very similar to Lancome's "Rose Defil" but with a little more pink, which is quite flattering on my pale rosy skin. The consistency is okay -- a little dry. The reason this gets 4 instead of 5 is the nasty formaldehyde smell and the fact that these lipsticks are easily opened at the display and tampered with prior to purchase. No protective plastic or box.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Excellence Creme Pro-Keratin in 7G Dark Golden Blonde
rated 3 of 5
sarahvma 9/26/2009 12:45:00 PM

This is an absolutely gorgeous shade. It's definitely more light brown than dark blonde, but the golden tones are incredibly flattering and honey/brown sugar beautiful. After a couple of weeks, my hair did feel really dry and the color began fading, though. I'm torn on what to give this hair color, but my overwhelming love for the color mixes with the disappointment of the after-effects and lands it at a 3.

Hair Color -Garnier - Nutrisse "Butternut"
rated 3 of 5
sarahvma 9/26/2009 12:39:00 PM

Beware the misleading packaging -- this color is not a medium-level blonde, it's an ashy light brown. I gave this a three only because Nutrisse really does leave your hair feeling fantastic, but this shade left it looking awful. Ashy, lifeless and not at all what the box leads you to believe.

Styling Products -Sunsilk - Waves of Envy Gel
rated 5 of 5
sarahvma 9/10/2009 10:19:00 AM

How is it that a gel I bought for $1.99 on sale at my local drug store has worked better to give me shiny, healthy wavy hair than all of the expensive $10+ products I've been trying to use for the last 10 years? I love this stuff. I have no crunch, no grease, no anything to my hair. The way I like to use it is to put in one small pump after the shower for my very thick just-above-the-shoulders hair. Then I go to bed (for some reason, sleeping on my hair makes it the curliest) and I wake up with great hair. This curl cream is a life-saver. I was about to give up trying to find one.

Lip Gloss -Bare Escentuals - Buxom Lips Lip Gloss in Amber
rated 5 of 5
sarahvma 9/2/2009 11:56:00 PM

Love love LOVE this gloss. The smell is a lovely brown sugary scent, the mint tingly on your lips feels fantastic (think: Burt's Bees) and my lips look really pretty with the peachy gold shimmer. It's not glittery so it doesn't look too young. It doesn't make your lips much bigger, but there is a noticeable addition of plumpness.
