Blush -MAC - Mineralize Skinfinish - Glissade
sandsonik 12/31/2006 9:32:00 AM
I'm probably reviewing this WAY too soon...but I'll update if I change my mind. I've been yearning for an MSF for quite a while so I was really excited to get this one and that it's in a color I can wear (I'm light, NC30 with some yellow undertones). But on me there's more glitter than color payoff. Both times I've tried it my husband has commented that I have glitter on my face; it's not subtle. When I first put it on, I think I look glowy and shimmery but a few hours later all you see is chunks of glitter! I'm getting a 187 brush so I'll update if that helps at all. This one's definitely a blush/highlighter for me and not an all over face color and definitely a nightime look - not good for the office! Didn't work great as an eye shadow either. I really wanted this to work so I'm hoping I can find a way to wear it that minimizes all the glitter!

Eye Shadow -Maybelline - Dream Mousse Shadow [DISCONTINUED]
sandsonik 12/30/2006 1:01:00 PM
I bought this in suede sensation first and liked it enough to try ivory and tranquil rose. I said "yes" to would I buy it again, but I'm not really sure I would. I LOVE the brown suede color but I end up with gritty chunks of it that are hard to blend in or brush away. Maybe I didn't close the lid tightly one day or something. So while the shadow is nice, it's a bit more work for something that would seem to be perfect for days when you want a quick eyeshadow fix. The tranquil rose is nice but the ivory is kind of unnecessary to me, because I have so many other neutral highlighter shades. The problematic suede is still my favorite but I find I don't reach for it too often. It does make me interested in trying their blushes though!

Eye Shadow -MAC - Aquadisiac
sandsonik 12/9/2006 5:53:00 PM
This color is SO not something I'd usually reach for. It looks gorgeous in the pan, but I tend to shy away from bright colors, sticking with browns or neutrals; purple is generally the only color I use and I avoid blues like the plague, but I'm trying to break out of my rut. I'm falling in love with Aquadisiac, though I still don't have the guts to wear it all over my lid. I'm taking baby steps; I've paired it with satellite dreams or parfait amour, putting the aquadisiac in the inner corner of my eye and lining the lower inner lid, using macroviolet for the main liner - and boy, it's a GREAT look! It really makes my brown eyes POP! I can go smoky on the outer eye and add a little aquadisiac to the inner eye to really open my eyes up. I can't wait to try this for my Christmas party tomorrow night, and to play with the possibilities some more. A really lovely shade and I have no problem working with it at all; very nice texture, great color payoff. I'd buy it again.

Lip Gloss -MAC - c-thru lipglass
sandsonik 11/11/2006 11:14:00 AM
Why? I just don't get why this product is so raved over. I guess it's just not for me. Way too milky, flat, pale, streaky. Just overall blah. Meh. Too sheer on its own but doesn't seem to work well over other lipsticks either.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Lipglass - Dreamy
sandsonik 11/11/2006 11:03:00 AM
Surprised I don't hear this lipglass mentioned more often on the boards. I think it's very pretty, kind of a cooler version of nymphette that looks silvery rather than gold. I would think it would work with most colorings though. If they made it permanent, I'd buy it again.

Lip Gloss -MAC - Nymphette lipglass
sandsonik 11/11/2006 10:52:00 AM
If you're into lip glosses, I really think this is a must-have. It's a pretty color on its own but I find I use it a lot over lipsticks that are a little too bright for me, a little too dark or whatever; it's like the magic fix-it lipglass, LOL. Also great for adding just a dab in the middle of the lower lip but I find I can never stop there! Only con is that like all MAC lipglasses it's so damn sticky that it's a real pain on a windy day if you have long hair; it's a real hair magnet.

Eye Shadow -Clinique - Color Surge Eye Shadow Duo in Pink Tweed
sandsonik 10/12/2006 12:39:00 AM
I tried this in a GWP - I got the duo along with Color Surge Sheer Shimmer (?) in Confetti. Very disappointed. Pretty colors but they just don't show up at all on me! Using UDPP as a primer helped a bit, but not enough and the color just didn't last that long. Maybe I've been spoiled by MAC eyeshadows, but this seemed really low quality for a department store product. Or maybe I'm just not meant to wear these colors. The confetti might be a bit better, I'll have to experiment with that one on its own.

Lip Gloss -Clinique - Glosswear for Lips -Black Honey [DISCONTINUED]
sandsonik 10/12/2006 12:28:00 AM
I love Black Honey lipstick so I was so excited to get this gloss. I find it applies really differently from the lipstick though. The lipstick goes on very sheer and I put on a few layers to get the color I want. This is kind of opposite. The consistency is a little weird. It goes on pretty unevenly, sheer in some spots, thick in others. I have to be careful that it doesn't clump in spots on my lips. Other reviewers are right when they say you need a mirror for this one and it requires a little more work and blending than most glosses. Also, at first it seemed much darker than the Black Honey lipstick - I was afraid it was just too dark for me, a sort of browny red, but it faded nicely to exactly the right shade and it actually seems to wear longer than the lipstick. For a gloss it doesn't seem sticky at ALL and for me it has almost no sheen or frostiness - it just makes it look like my lips really ARE that color. Deducting one lippie because it requires a bit more work, but I think it's worth it! ETA: Some time has passed and I'm taking off two stars. I almost never use this. A huge disappointment because I love the Black Honey lipstick, but this is just darker on me and it's NOT glossy, so why bother with a lipgloss that's hard work to apply evenly and isn't even glossy? Stick with the lipstick!

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Exact
sandsonik 10/5/2006 6:52:00 PM
Let me add to the raves for this product! You could spend a lot more on a mascara that's not half as good. I think it's the best drugstore mascara I've ever tried - although I suspect what makes it so great is mostly the wand rather than the formula. It does a great job of reaching every lash and clumps are definitely minimal, smudging non-existent. Prior to trying this, I had received a GWP of Clinique High Impact mascara that I liked a LOT, and thought maybe I'd found my HG mascara finally. I was all set to purchase a tube of that and gave this a try. So glad I did, I think this is at least as good, and probably better - and at a much nicer price. Also much more convenient to buy! I notice I get a lot of compliments on my eyes since using Lash Exact too!

Lip Gloss -BeneFit Cosmetics - Black Orchid- If Only I Had Known [DISCONTINUED]
sandsonik 10/5/2006 6:38:00 PM
On my lips, this isn't pinky or nude at all. More like a bronzed mauve. Nice shade, subtle, might be too dark for some people. I like it, but it's a soft cream and would probably be better packaged in a tube like others have said. Not overly shimmery but just enough shimmer IMO. I got this cheap off E-Bay but if the retail price is really $18, I probably wouldn't re-purchase. It's nice -not sticky at all or too heavy - and a good shade for me but nothing that special or different from other things I have. I love the packaging though, and I may be judging too soon!

Lip Gloss -MAC - Dejarose Lipglass
sandsonik 9/30/2006 6:02:00 PM
I finally found a MAC lipglass I hate! I bought this off E-Bay on a whim, and it's SO wrong for me. It's very monochromatic and has none of the subtleties or shimmers I'm used to from the lipglasses I own. Simply put, I look like a clown in this color. I think it would be a very tough color for a lot of people to wear. I'm actually surprised it got as good reviews as it did. It seems harder to apply than other lipglasses for some reason too. I can't even find a lip stick that it looks good on top of, and that's kind of rare. Anyone want it?

Lip Gloss -MAC - Star Nova
sandsonik 9/29/2006 11:10:00 PM
I love this product! It may be my favorite lipglass/lustreglass yet - though I'm really liking the Viva Glam VI as well. Star Nova looks great on its own or over other lipsticks. I really like the brush applicator. It takes a bit longer to apply but seems more hygienic to me somehow and allows you more precision. My only complaint is that, like all lip glosses, the staying power is really poor but I love the shimmer so much I keep re-applying. For reference I'm an NC30 with fairly pigmented lips.
