Skincare - Face -Avon - Anew Clinical Advanced Retexturizing Peel

I've been using this every other day for a couple of weeks now. Get a bit of tingle, but generally no dramatic improvement in the texture of my skin, either overnight or with extended use. In direct comparison with the Paula's Choice RESIST Weekly Resurfacing Treatment - this stuff falls way short, except for price. I think I will shell out the extra money for the stuff that works.

Lip Gloss -Avon - Glazewear - ALL SHADES
rated 5 of 5
sakecat22 8/30/2012 12:41:00 PM

I am really surprised I haven't reviewed this. Glazewear has been my go-to colored gloss for the past 3+ years. Inexpensive, decent colors, and (most importantly) doesn't leave me with the mid-day dry lip. Faves are the Sparkle colors (which tend to lean towards sheer, which fits me just fine) and the new Glazewear VitalLuscious (a bit less sheer and the colors lean towards "your lips but better"). For someone who does minimal makeup, but needs some "polish" - this stuff is awesome.

Mascara -Cover Girl - Lash Blast Fusion

Doesn't flake. Also - doesn't lengthen, or volumize. The black leaves a weird grey cast on my lashes. The brush on this one requires me to pay close attention to how I am using it - otherwise my right eye gets mascara on the edge lashes and my left eye gets mascara in the middle lashes. This might also be a reflection of how often I wear makeup. I prefer my mascara to be a lot more visible if I am going to bother with application - and more dummy proof.

Foundations -Avon - magix cashmere foundation
rated 5 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 3:43:00 PM

Purchased the MagiX foundation because it looked like a good replacement for the Paula's Choice tint I have been using. I was looking for just a smidge more coverage - and the Paula's Choice foundation was starting to make my skin look shiny. So far - this is great stuff! My skin looks natural - not over-shiny or over-matte. It gets rid of some of the summer ruddiness. The Nude color blends perfectly with my skin. And I don't feel like I am wearing foundation - even towards the end of the day. So far, I have not run into the separation or oxidation issues others have run into - but my tube is pretty new.

Sunscreen -Neutrogena - Sport Face SPF 70
rated 5 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 3:33:00 PM

I've been pretty silent on Makeup Alley the past couple of years because my makeup regimen has consisted of sunscreen and lip gloss for the past 2+ years. Paula's Choice sunscreen (usually) and Avon Glazeware lip gloss. As a result, I haven't had that much to review :) I forgot a stronger sunscreen on a trip to Boston and picked up Neutrogena's Sport Face. I've had mixed reactions to Neutrogena's sunscreens in the past. This one is one of the best I've tried - especially for such a high SPF on the face. No clogs, no zits, no freckles. Absorbs much better than other sunscreens of this strength and consistency. My only minor complaint is that my skin looks a bit shiny after putting this on. Overall - great stuff.

Shampoo -Suave - Scalp Solutions anti dandruff shampoo Nourishing Coconut & Shea Butter
rated 3 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 3:22:00 PM

This is more moisturizing than expected for a dandruff shampoo. Also better smelling - though you still get the "dandruff shampoo" smell in the background. I suspect I will have to move away from this type of dandruff shampoo since it doesn't seem to be helping my dandruff. I'm good for a day, then my scalp gets flaky, oily and itchy again. I will be finishing this bottle since I am a cheapskate and it is better than the other dandruff shampoo I've been using (Garnier).

Shampoo -Garnier - Fructis Anti-Dandruff Intense Cleanse Shampoo

At first, I liked this shampoo. The scrubby beads, the coolish feel and scent. Now - I find it may be aggravating my oily dandruff vs. fixing it. I feel I have to wash my hair more frequently using this shampoo vs. some of the others. And it doesn't feel those scrubby beads ever fully rinse out of my scalp. Back to the drawing board.

Conditioner -Organix - Moroccan Argan Oil
rated 2 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 3:14:00 PM

Doesn't generate oily scalp, but also doesn't really condition my hair. It's not drier, but it is frizzier (not sure how that works, but there you go). The smell is pretty neutral. One of those products that really doesn't do anything other than add an extra step and make me think I am doing something productive in the shower.

Conditioner -Organix - Nourishing Coconut Milk Conditioner

I use this to make my hair smell good. I don't really use this to condition since it seems to make my hair even frizzier than it already is. At least it doesn't cause any further oil production on my scalp - so there's that bonus. I've used the shampoo in this line before too. Like the smell. Meh shampoo. Worth it on a 2 for 1 offer. Not so much full price.

Shampoo -Nexxus - Therappe Shampoo
rated 4 of 5

I noticed there might be a production issue - the travel size I own is significantly different in texture, appearance and smell than the full size bottle. The travel size is creamier, has a stronger banana smell, and seems more moisturizing than the full size. Not real sure what is up with that. I bought the full size based on my experience with the travel size. For the full size bottle - I find that this is a great clarifying shampoo. Doesn't make my scalp itchy and it gets rid of the "oil production dandruff". It also makes my hair smell like banana Now and Later candies (which I kinda dig). I can't use it every day because, like other reviewers experienced, it makes my hair dry if I use it more than once a week.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - RESIST Intensive Wrinkle-Repair Retinol Serum
rated 4 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 2:32:00 PM

I have been using this serum at night for 6 weeks or so. I find a pump or two is enough to cover my whole face. Not entirely certain if it is making a huge difference in my skin - but I'm not breaking out and in the morning it just "feels better". I can tell the difference when I don't use it for a couple of days. The packaging is attractive and pumps out the right amount of product - I just wish I could tell how much was left.

Treatments -Paula's Choice - RESIST Weekly Resurfacing Treatment
rated 5 of 5

This stuff is flat out AWESOME. I have never used a product that has made such a huge difference literally overnight. I have to restrain myself to use it only weekly so I don't burn out my skin and make it all flaky. It just makes that much difference to the texture. Big big fan.

Moisturizers -Paula's Choice - RESIST Cellular Defense Daily Moisturizer SPF 25
rated 3 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 2:23:00 PM

I am a fan of Paula's Choice products. I thought this one was OK - it didn't break me out and the sunscreen kept out the sun all day. However, my skin looked and felt a bit greasy when I wore it. I am also not a big fan of the packaging - a tube that you twist and squeeze out the hole. When you retwist the top to close - more product comes out. I had to calibrate to account for the excess. Overall - a resounding meh.

Moisturizers -Avon - Reversalist Day Cream
rated 5 of 5
sakecat22 8/10/2012 2:19:00 PM

I have been looking for a decent moisturizer with sunscreen that does not a) break me out and b) make me look greasy. My skin has been changing dramatically over the past couple of years - so it has been a challenge to find a moisturizer I like. This stuff has fit the bill beautifully. I was a bit nervous about the creamy consistency - since my skin has tended towards oily, but it dries to a nice skin-like finish (vs. greasy). I was also concerned about the slight "retinol sensation" when I first tried it. That burn stopped after a couple of uses. And, dare I say it, my skin is looking better. I bought this during one of Avon's sales in a skincare kit. So far, I am pleased with this purchase.

Tinted Moisturizer -Paula's Choice - Barely There Sheer Matte Tint SPF 20
rated 4 of 5
sakecat22 3/20/2012 4:28:00 PM

Purchased this on a whim and during one of my "makeup" binges. I've been using this recently since my usual facial sunscreen has started to break me out. I actually like that there is very little pigment in this product. It definitely won't cover anything - but it evens out slight tone-changes and my skin doesn't feel sticky or clogged at the end of the day.
