Hair Color -L'Oreal - Brass Banisher
rated 5 of 5

This product totally saved my hair! I had used the Feria "Downtown Brown" to lighten my naturally coarse dark hair to that beautiful shimmery light ash brown on the box... I followed instructions and even added drops of the Ardell anti-red and gold corrector but still my hair came out brassy and dull with hot roots. It was terrible. I didn't even mind the warm tones, but it wasnt shiny or healthy, it was so dull and gross. It looked ok in certain lighting so I tried to live with it, but eventually couldn't take it anymore. I am totally broke so didn't have enough money to go to salon and fix... as a last resort I bought a box of the brass banisher, not really expecting much. It totally killed most of the red and orange, leaving a healthy, shiny (not dull!) light brown... and didn't seem to damage my hair at all! I love the shade now, it's exactly what I wanted, it looks natural and looks good in all lights! I am never buying another box of Feria.. every few years I go back to it, and I am always disappointed. But this brass banisher stuff was a life saver!

Conditioner -Pureology - INSTANT REPAIR LEAVE-IN CONDITIONER

This was on sale at a salon I sometimes go to, half price, I came on MakeupAlley and read other, positive reviews, so I shelled out the 10$ for it, and unfortunately ended up one of those who don't love this product. Passing by other salons I see this on sale everywhere, there must be some reason the company is trying to clear it out!! Its a clear gel, it glides on nicely into hair, smells a little chemical, but only faintly so, and on wet hair it seems to smooth and detangle, but when ive finished blowdrying that i can feel how my ends are stuck together and crunchy. Ive used this on and off a few times now with different products to make sure that it is the cause of the crunchiness, and it most definitely is. Into the trash! I have yet to find a good leave in, everything seems to coat my hair, i'm trying Kiehls next but for now good old Fekkai Glossing Cream does the trick.

Shampoo -L'Oreal - L'Oreal Professionnel Color Guard System Vitamino Color Shampoo
rated 5 of 5

Love this shampoo! I found this a few years ago, and have used it ever since,... I mean, it's not the second coming, its a shampoo, but it keeps your color rich, its nice and creamy, nice lather, rinses well, and i love the smell. Im constantly looking for new & different conditioners, but I always use the Vitamino color shampoo, even if my hair isnt recently colored. (It usually is, though). Its a little pricey, but its a solid, moisturizing shampoo that smells gorgeous. I like the rest of this line too, they are all good solid products that do what they claim to do, and everything just smells fresh and clean and like hair is supposed to smell, i think.

Conditioner -Rusk - Sensories Calm 60 second Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 1:49:00 PM

I've tried a bunch of Rusk products over the years and never particularly liked any, I find them mediocre, and overpriced. However, at a salon that was going out of business and offering everything half price, I stocked up on a bunch of stuff, and on a whim, grabbed this and the Cure vitamin spray treatment. Never used either before. I sprayed Cure on, it didn't seem to do anything, but when I rinsed and applied this 60 second conditioner, my hair felt soft and smooth and silky. Mmm and it smells so good! After blowdrying my hair felt strong and shiny, much shinier than I'd ever seen it. And I have tried EVERY type of conditioner - Fekkai, Kerastase, Kiehls, L'Oreal, L'Occitane, Redken, TiGi. etc, etc. I even considered not flat ironing- something ive done every.single.shower for about 8 years! I haven't tried this without Cure, or vice versa, so I don't know if it's just this conditioner or the combo that works so effectively on my hair, or which of the ingredients my hair responds so favorably to. I have tried a few more Rusk products since and none of them have such miraculous results, i don't know why but on my coarse dry hair this product (plus Cure) is incredible!

Conditioner -L'Occitane - Shea Butter - Ultra Rich Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 1:40:00 PM

This is one of the best conditioners I've ever used! It is very thin and runny when squeezing out of the tube, and initially when I applied it, my hair soaked it right up. When rinsing, however, I could immediately feel my hair was smooth and silky. Not my favorite fragrance, but great conditioning - definitely an undiscovered gem.

I love this fragrance, it is my signature, and I have been getting compliments for years about it. It's uber feminine, sexy, and elegant. Glamorous without being musky or overbearing. (Hello Chanel!) The packaging is tasteful and classy. My only complaint is that it fades too quickly.

Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Glossing Cream with Olive Oil
rated 5 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 11:56:00 AM

Deserves all the hoopla, its a fantastic detangler, smoother & moisturizer, you can use it on wet or dry hair, and you can use basically as much as you want without your hair becoming greasy or oily. I mean, dont go completely crazy, but compared to other products where even a tiny dollop turns my hair into an oil slick, this one is a godsend. My hair is coarse and dry, this is the best and only product of its kind, I use it to detangle my hair (which constantly gets tangled when it's wet because the ends are so damaged) and i use glossing cream to safely detangle my ends without any breakage, I blow dry my hair, its soft and shiny, my hair loves this stuff. Then I throw some more on for shine and slight texture. Tho I dont' use a lot of it near my roots, they dont' need it. Its great for more casual styles, messier looks, 2nd day hair, I can just squirt out a handful and run it through my hair (mainly the ends) and it makes my slept in tousled hair look intentional! I don't know any other product like this one (and let me know if one turns up!) and it is a staple for me, I use it more than any other product I own! (Since I started using Bumble & Bumble's Super Rich conditioner, my ends are much less tangled when they're wet, but I still use Glossing Cream all the time.) Oh- The one negative is that the cream and oil elements in it literally separate from one another in the tube after a while and definitely don't work as effectively on your hair as when they're mixed. The Sephora clerks said to shake it to recombine the elements, I'm not sure why this happens, any ideas?

Lip Gloss -DuWop - Lip Venom
rated 1 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 11:43:00 AM

Tingles and makes my lips slightly red, which enhances them in one way, I suppose, but doesn't plump. Though I dont' think any of the lip plumpers do much, and I have thin lips. The product design means you can't get the last quarter of product out, plus it leaks ooze everywhere. I recently started using Hope in A Jar, and oddly enough I find that it leaves my lips just as full and soft as any lip plumper does. But I hate lip gloss, and Lip Venom is sticky sticky. Also don't believe any hype about Lindsay Lohan or whoever using this stuff to achieve their lips, those are one hundred percent the result of injections.

Styling Products -Bumble & Bumble - Bb Shine
rated 4 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 11:32:00 AM

I hate how expensive this product is, I paid 30$ Canadian for the small can, only to get home and open it up like a Russian doll to reveal an even tinier spray can. But it's a good product. My hair is looking better than it ever has, and I use Bb shine after I flat iron, it adds kind of a finish that no other spray seems to, Ive tried every shine spray out there, before Bb I used Fekkai shine spray, none seem to completely coat my hair with shine armour like Bb. It's a strange result, I can see how some people wouldn't care for it, because your hair feels artificial, and for whatever reason it makes my hair staticky, which has never happened before ever. The smell isn't the greatest, but not nearly as bad as everyone seems to think, just smells a little chemical. I still love my Fekkai glossing cream, but Bb Shine is great to have for super straight styles, and in photos my hair looks unbelievable shiny. And naturally my hair is v. dry and not shiny at all, so I can only imagine how shiny your hair will become if you are one of those blessed naturally with healthy shiny hair. Have I used the word 'shiny' enough? It's lost all meaning.

Conditioner -Bumble & Bumble - Super Rich Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 11:11:00 AM

LOVE this conditioner. I have naturally coarse dry hair that has been through the wringer, SuperRich is expensive, but such a thick consistency that a little goes a long way. No other product detangles like this, and I have tried EVERYTHING. My hair was a puffy frizzy bleached mess a few years ago, (before I found this conditioner, so I'm not sure how it works on a whole head of ruined hair) now my hair is growing out, so only my ends are damaged, so I use this product on my ends, every time I shower, no matter what, it always smoothes, sleeks, and makes combing through easy. Don't like the smell, but its a small price to pay (on top of the big price, for the bottle) for such consistency.

Shampoo -Aveda - Black Malva Shampoo and Conditioner
rated 1 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 11:00:00 AM

I found this conditioner to be extremely drying, with no change in color whatsoever. It seemed to get splotches of dark brown color everywhere, my hands, my shower curtain, even the floor of the tub, without any color absorbing into my hair. Plus it stinks! My hair is coarse and slightly damaged, so maybe it's for a totally different hair type. I couldn't get a comb through my hair afterwards. Or is there a moisturizing conditioner I should use with it? I'd love to know, as of now, It's gathering dust at the back of my cupboard. I find Bumble & Bumble's formulas for cool brunettes smell better, work marginally better (still no miracles) and leave my hair silkier.

Fragrances -Aquolina - Pink Sugar

For a couple of years now I have been slowly working through the same bottle of this stuff... I'm always willing to give it a chance, but without fail it gives me a headache, and within an hour or so of putting it on i want to violently scrub it off forever. That being said, every male i've ever worn it with has loved it, and girlfriends like it too, no one seems to notice how heady it is, except for me. So it's a super sweet fragrance with great staying power, just not for me. I now use Cake Beauty Satin Sugar hair & body mist, which gives me a burst of the same sweet girly feeling, without the cloying fragrance.

One of my favorite fragrances, and i am very very picky with perfumes. Most give me a headache after an hour or so.This one is lovely and light, feminine, smells v. strongly of grapefruit. Downfall is it fades quickly, and men don't seem to appreciate the scent as much as women! I personally find the packaging a little cheap & tacky. I find it a great scent to wear to work, with family, somewhere where you want a light, distinct fragrance but nothing too overbearing!

Conditioner -Rene Furterer - CARTHAME, Gentle hydro-nutritive mask
rated 1 of 5
rynlee83 1/16/2008 9:29:00 AM

I have tried every conditioner on the planet, wanted to like this one. My hair sucked it up, reminiscent of L'Occitane's Ultra Rich Conditioner, but unlike the L'Occitane formula, this conditioner did not wash out leaving my hair silky and slippy, i did not use v. much product, and it still left my coarse, dry hair feeling like it was coated with wax, my ends kind of stuck together. After towel drying, my hair was impossible to comb through. And it smelled gross! Back to Sephora.
