Mascara -Trish McEvoy - High Volume Mascara
rosrey 7/24/2012 5:06:00 PM
I received this as a GWP in Jet Black. It lengthened my lashes but it also made them clump together resulting in a tarantula eye. Not a good look at all. If you're looking for a great tubing mascara, I would recommend trying my current favorite, Kevyn Aucoin's Volumizing mascara.

Eyeliner -Hourglass - Water Proof Liquid Liner Pen - EBONY
rosrey 10/9/2010 5:48:00 PM
This eyeliner sucks. It skips so I had to spend a lot of time trying to reapply it over and over. I got so frustrated with it that I threw it in the trash. Its only redeeming quality is that once it's on, it stays on for the whole day. If you're looking for a high quality liquid pen eyeliner, I recommend Chantecaille or YSL.

Foundations -Yves Saint Laurent - Matt Touch Foundation
rosrey 11/12/2008 4:34:00 AM
Always on the lookout for a mattifying foundation, I decided to try a sample of this in Sand (#4) which was a good match for me LSF 6, NC35. This is a silicone based foundation that has a mousse-like consistency and when applied to the skin, dries to a mat, powdery finish. Because it's so mat, I noticed that it has a tendency to emphasize flakes and dry spots. It's similar to Giorgio Armani Face Fabric in texture and translucent finish but it seems that YSL provides a little more coverage and is less drying. I initially liked the overall look, feel and coverage but unfortunately, just like GA, I broke out after using it for two consecutive days. Ingredients: Cyclopentasiloxane, Dimethicone Crosspolymer, Isododecane, Cyclomethicone, Polymethyl Methacrylate, Polyvinylalcohol Crosspolymer, Silica, Water, Caprylyl Glycol, Tocopheryl Acetate, Dimethicone, Lauryl Methacrylate/Glycol Dimethacrylate Crosspolymer, Fragrance, Polydodecanamideaminium Triazadiphenylethenesulfonate, Butylene Glycol, Propylene Glycol, Glycerin, Hydroxyapatite, Dicaprylyl Ether, Zinc Oxide, Cassia Angustifolia Seed Polysaccharide, Titanium Dioxide, Enantia Chloranta Bark Extract, Nymphaea Alba Flower Extract, Gellan Gum, Polyglyceryl-2 Dipolyhydroxystearate, Oleanolic Acid. [+/- May Contain: Ci 77891 (Titanium Dioxide), Ci 77492 (Iron Oxide), Ci 77019 (Mica), Ci 77491 (Iron Oxide), Ci 77499 (Iron Oxide), Ci 77007 (Ultramarines), Ci 77742 (Manganese Violet), Ci 77510 (Ferric Ferrocyanide), Talc, Ci 75470 (Carmine), Synthetic Fluorphlogopite].

Eye Shadow -Giorgio Armani - Maestro #3: Sparkling Gold
rosrey 6/14/2008 8:26:00 PM
I'm a fan of GA and gold eye shadows but Sparkling Gold was a disappointment. There was hardly any pigmentation and all I could see on my lids was some sheer shimmer. It was definitely not worth $28 so I couldn't justify keeping it.

Makeup Brushes -Laura Mercier - Mineral Primer Brush
rosrey 6/10/2008 9:55:00 PM
I just got this brush in the mail from lauramercier.com and I'm shocked at the poor quality. I buffed my hand with the brush to test it and it stained my skin black. The bristles were also extremely coarse and worst of all, it sheds like crazy! In my opinion, this brush should be recalled because it's so bad. I wouldn't even pay $1 let alone $36 for it. This is going back immediately!

Eyeliner -Yves Saint Laurent - Automatic Eyeliner
rosrey 6/1/2008 4:38:00 AM
The design of this liquid pen eyeliner is brilliant! The liquid automatically flows to the high quality felt tip so that just the perfect amount of product is released, allowing me to draw a thin, even and really black line. Most importantly, the formula is relatively budge-proof and lasts through a work day. As of now, it's only available in black but I'm hoping YSL will release more colors.

Lip Gloss -Jemma Kidd Makeup School - Hi Shine: Silk-Touch Lip Gloss in Garnet
rosrey 5/27/2008 2:42:00 AM
In my quest for the perfect lip gloss, I've discovered a few favorites like Chantecaille, Giorgio Armani, Laura Mercier and Chanel and now, I'm going to add Jemma Kidd to that list. The name of Jemma Kid's gloss says it all: it feels silky, looks very glossy and the color Garnet is a gorgeous shimmery, pinky, brown that brightens my face and I imagine, could also be flattering on a lot of other skin tones.

Lip Gloss -Chanel - Aqualumiere--Party Red
rosrey 5/27/2008 1:31:00 AM
Party Red looked very bright and almost fluorescent in the tube but was a soft, sheer red on my lips. I really liked how plush it made my lips look and was convinced I would be collecting all the colors but several things occurred. I began to dislike the texture. It was very slick and felt like an oily, occlusive gel. The glossiness also didn't last very long and after a few minutes, it looked more like a tint than a gloss. However, the most troubling part was that my lips started to tingle and burn. It felt like someone had outlined my lips with a jalapeno pepper. I don't know what kind of chemicals Chanel poured into this stuff but I think I'll stick to Chantecaille in Charisma as my source for a sheer, red lip gloss.

Blush -NARS - Deep Throat
rosrey 3/14/2008 1:51:00 AM
One of my favorite blushes of all time. It gives me a gorgeous, peachy, just came back from a fabulous vacation glow. When I go on a trip, I always bring this blush because it always works and looks great in pictures. Love it!

Blush -Christian Dior - DiorBlush Passion Fruit 533
rosrey 3/14/2008 1:44:00 AM
All I could think of when applying this blush is, where's the beef??? It's very finely milled but no matter what brush I used, I could not get the color to show up! I prefer blushes with more pigmentation that only requires a couple of swipes such as NARS or even Dior's Sunset Fiesta. Maybe it was the wrong color for me (LSF 6/NC 35) but I'm not really interested in trying the other colors.

Moisturizers -Bliss Labs - An Ounce of Prevention AM
rosrey 10/26/2007 11:10:00 PM
I was on a Bliss product binge and I wanted to try this based on positive reviews and the following product claims: "age-delaying moisture-equalizing complex for all skin types *three teas complex and antioxidant SPD detoxify *invisible microporous mesh absorbs excess shine *time released hydrators" This is a light lotion with adequate slip and a pleasant, refreshing citrus scent. It moisturizers fairly well for a light lotion but unfortunately, it's claim to have time released hydrators probably surpassed the excess shine absorbing properties because by midday my skin became noticeably greasy. Bottomline: despite lovely scent, it's rather expensive for just a moisturizer. May repurchase if I win the lotto. It appears this product has been discontinued and has been reformulated to include SPF 15.

Moisturizers -Bliss Labs - The youth as we know it
rosrey 10/26/2007 10:46:00 PM
I received a Bliss catalog (creator of many lemmings) and noticed this product featured. I was looking for a night time moisturizer with effective anti-aging ingredients and completely fell for the product claims and enthusiastic testimonial. This is the product description on the box: The Youth As We Know It is our latest dream cream that contains 10 anti-aging actives: 1) collagen and elastin protectors 2) anti-wrinkle peptides 3) visible facial fillers 4) oxygen boosters 5) advanced moisture binders 6) 7 day hydrators 7) skin protecting ceramides 8) wrinkle appearance reducers 9) brightening multi-fruit complex 10) skin refining vitamin A Sounds promising, right? In my defense, I tried to be a good consumer and got a sample first and after a few nights thought I saw improved clarity and hydration of my skin. I decided to commit and bought it. Of course, that's when the problems began. I used it consistently and didn't notice much improvement in my skin plus I started to break out. When I stopped using it, my skin cleared up. I might as well have flushed $79 down the toilet! Oh well, on to the next product.

Polishes -Lippmann Collection - Angel Eyes
rosrey 10/10/2007 9:35:00 PM
I first bought a Lippmann nail polish many years ago when I was a still an impoverished college student. I was only able to afford it because it was in a rummage bin at a local discounter. Fast forward a few years later and the same nail polish remains fluid and still applies beautifully without streaking. I now own quite a few Lippmanns but this color is particularly fun and is one of my favorites. It's a medium, subdued hot pink that is perfect for sandals, pina coladas and summer days. It's very pretty and definitely worth every penny.

Eyeliner -Mally Beauty - City Chick Eyeliner Pencil in Black
rosrey 9/12/2007 2:09:00 AM
When Mally raved about this automatic eyeliner on QVC I couldn't help but be skeptical since I've had issues with most eyeliner pencils. However, this is a very impressive eyeliner. It goes on a rich black, doesn't skip, easily glides on waterline, and has very good lasting power. I only give it 4 stars because it's not as smudge free as MACs fluidline or Bobbi Browns gel liner but that's the nature of all eyeliner pencils. If you're on hunt for a HG black eyeliner you might find it in this one!

Eyeliner -MAC - Fluidline Eye-Liner Gel in Blacktrack
rosrey 9/11/2007 1:01:00 AM
I have the oiliest eyelids in the world and every eyeliner smears on me giving me the dreaded racoon look. When I first tried fluidline, I went to the gym later that afternoon, and to my amazement, it didn't smear! The line was still nice and sharp and none had traveled underneath my eyes. However, after a super long day at work, it does eventually start to travel and smear but only slightly (I told you I have the oiliest eyelids in the world). I find that compared to Bobbi Browns gel eyeliner, this is slightly easier to work with a lasts a little longer. So, if you're looking for a long lasting eyeliner, I recommend you start with this one.
