Hair Color -John Frieda - Precision Foam Color
roarwoman 6/6/2012 2:01:00 PM
I purchased the Deep-Brown-Black color last night at London Drugs for $12.95. I'm always looking for an easier way to apply hair color and the foam application caught my eye. It was easy to apply and the color came out as expected, dark brown/black. The promised 100% grey coverage is totally not true. I had about half an inch of salt and pepper roots going into this dye job and my roots are still visible and still grayish in color with a bit of brown now mixed in. Brown-Grey? My hair texture was really rough, even after applying the condition for 10 mins post procedure. I put Macadamian oil in afterwards before I styled and my hair still felt rough and I had a hard time getting my brush around my hair while styling with a blow dryer. End result did not produce any shine or softness at all. Bottom line, product is expensive, limited color range, average results. I wouldn't purchase again.

BB Cream -Marcelle - BB Cream Beauty Balm
roarwoman 4/25/2012 3:19:00 PM
Pros: Elegant packaging Easy to use pump dispenser Light to medium shade blends well with my skin tone (medium light) Adequate coverage to even out redness and discoloration Very good price point ($19.99 CND) Cons: The smell Did not control oil at all, face looked really shiny after a few hrs Adhered to dry patches of skin making them look worse, especially around the blemishes that were drying up No SPF Basically I felt this was more like a tinted moisturizer as opposed to a genuine BB cream. The bottle states it's for all skin types but I would be hard pressed to recommend this to someone with really oily or really dry skin. Somewhere in the middle is best. The worst part of this product is the smell, horrible, like chemical rot. I have ordered Skin79 Hot Pink BB cream and hope to have better results with that brand. I have no issues with Marcelle in general but this is not a true BB cream and should be sold as a tinted moisturizer. Also, no SPF protection in this day and age, seriously?

Conditioner -L'Occitane - Shea Butter - Ultra Rich Conditioner
roarwoman 2/4/2012 12:36:00 AM
Love this conditioner!! When I first tried it out I was surprised by thin runny consistancy but as soon as I applied it to my hair... like silk baby! It takes a quarter size amount of this conditioner to cover my shoulder length, wavy thick hair. Before I would use a handful (and I do mean a handful) of other brands such as Bedhead, Redken, Gosh, in order to get the same results. This conditioner leaves my hair so soft and smooth that I hardly need any styling product after drying. If I choose to let my hair air dry, the result is smooth, frizz free, natural wave The price is on the high side but in the -21 degree weather, my hair is thanking me for the mositure. Would totally recommend this conditioner for the winter, might be a little heavy come the summer. I personally love the smell but it might be a bit strong for some people especially if you don't like floral scents.

Hi all! Just a quick tip. Buy some Lidocain, 0.05%, apply a light coat to the area that you are going to treat, leave on between 10-15mins and then shave away. Excellent for around the bikini and armpit area. You need an Rx for the Lidocain, but a tube should last for months.

Mascara -Maybelline - Volum Express The Falsies Flared
roarwoman 8/22/2011 1:43:00 AM
Didn't like this version. Wet formula that clumped and made my lashes look stick like, not much volume or "flair" happening. Returned.

Hair Styling Tools -Unlisted Brand - Sultra-The Sophisticate Power Dryer
roarwoman 8/22/2011 1:40:00 AM
I love this dryer!!! It takes a fraction of time to dry my hair, the setting can be customized to hair density (fine to thick) and with 1600 watts of power you have yourself a powerful styling tool. I found this dryer on sale for $139.00. I don't think I would have paid over $200 for it, but I feel I totally got my monies worth. My normally curly/wavy hair looked sleek and shiny afterwards, using a straightening brush. Using a round brush I got great volume and wave. My only compliant is that the control setting are in the way of where your hand would normally wrap around the handle. I have to space my fingers out so as to not hit the buttons. Aside from that, love love love!

Blush -Bourjois - Rose Ambre - 74
roarwoman 5/31/2011 4:01:00 PM
I'm not going to add anything new to what has already been written about this blush. I love the color, it really warms up my pale complexion without looking OTT. I didn't realize how pigmented the product was and went full guns when I first got it, WOWSA, not such a good look, lol! I use a fan brush for just a washof color and a fuller brush when I want more. Ironically, the most popular blush, Rose D'or looked pretty bad on me. I really like Bourjois products and as far as the blushes go, you pretty much cannot go wrong as long as you get the right shade.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Voluminous mascara
roarwoman 5/10/2011 1:40:00 PM
This was suggested to me by a client who has amazing lashes. I thought the fromula was really wet/runny and the brush was covered in product, so much so, that I used a tissue to wipe off the residual, twice, before I applied. Left my lashes clumpy, not a lot of volume, some fullness. This formula needs a good scrub to get off and the next morning I still had a tiny bit of it left under my eyes. Not good.

Lotions/ Creams -Bliss Labs - Lemon & Sage Body Butter
roarwoman 5/4/2011 7:24:00 PM
This cream came as a "twice the size duo deal" with a bottle of the Lemon and Sage shower gel. I picked it up at Winners for $19.99. Really like the cream, very good moisturizer, smells light and fresh, scent doesn't linger to long though but it doesn't make me feel greasy. The body wash is alright, barely there scent, need a lot to make a good lather, all in all it's alright. I was passing by Quorra and noticed they sold Bliss Labs product so I checked it out. My eyes just about popped out of my head when I saw the price for regular sizes of both the cream and the wash. Wow, I made out like a thief, but would never pay full price for either of these, even as a gift for someone. Good stuff, but not great.

Mascara -L'Oreal - Double Extend Eye Illuminator Mascara
roarwoman 4/15/2011 3:56:00 PM
I like this Mascara. It goes on with out clumps, comes out of the tube nice and smooth and gives my lashes rich black color with good separation. The Illumination part was the reason for me purchasing this product in the first place, and it's a lot of fun. Not to much glitter, just enough that it reflects off my lashes in the light or sunshine. I apply the glitter right after the color application, when I waited to long, I noticed the glitter gave me stiff lashes and didn't adhere very well, applied right away, all color no problems.. The wand on both ends is a little short for getting right inside the outer corner of the lashes but I have made do by lifting the lid. Cool product, I like the black and bronze effect, subtle and fun for summer.

Hair Color -L'Oreal - Superior Preference Hair Colour
roarwoman 3/20/2011 1:14:00 PM
The hubby and I are trying to save some cash to pay down our credit card bill. Unfortunately this includes putting a hold on salon color every 4-5 weeks at $100 a pop. The stylist I go to uses Redken, she used the newer version on me that is supposed to cover grey and keep it covered for 4 weeks. The color was dark brown with red undertones. I'll admit that after the color was processed, hair was styled etc.. I thought the color was a bit flat and dull. Four weeks later, it did cover the grey for longer then usual but the color faded fast and looked duller and duller every time I washed. BTW, I'm about 30-40% grey, the sides of my hair are the worst. Enter the new budget plan and my not being so thrilled with the color and MUA. After reading the reviews on this brand and having tried other brands on and off in the past I decided to give it a shot. I knew I wanted to stay very close to the current color, medium brown with red undertones, maybe take it a shade darker. I purchased Deep Soft Mahogany Brown, part of the Chocolate Decadence collection. The product was easy to mix up, I used a plastic bowl and brush to apply, I cannot abide with the cheap spout applicator they give you. The formula was pretty runny which made the job a little harder but not impossible. There is a good amount of product given and I, having short hair, barely used half of it. I settled in for 50 min then rinsed. The conditioner they provide is fantastic and smells nice. After drying and styling I was very impressed with the results, although I did think the color was a little flat. Very true to the color on the box and the bottom line is it looks great with my skin tone and eye color. It provided me with the shade darker that I wanted whilst still blending really well with the color that I was carrying from the salon job a month ago. I would repurchase this brand again although it's only been a few days so I cannot state how well it keeps grey hair covered or for how long. The only down side, as people have mentioned, is the smell when first applying and I personally would have liked more shine. Would recommend and will try some of the other brown shades in the future.

Mascara -Christian Dior - Diorshow Mascara
roarwoman 2/3/2011 4:01:00 PM
When I first purchased this product I was concerned at how "dry" looking the formula was. My concerns were justified after applying two coats to each set of lashes and having to brush away the flakes and little clumps that had collected underneath of my eye post application. The wand is a big thick brush that grabs all of my lashes, which I like. I didn't like the dry, brittle look of my lashes post application. The volume was sufficient and the wand curled my lashes after holding it in place for about 5 seconds before moving on to the next section. By the end of the day this product was flaking a lot under my eyes and my lashes looked really dried out. Good volume and lift. Dry, flaking formula. I paid $28 at Shoppers Drug Mart. Will not repurchase.

Lip Treatments -Fresh - Sugar Plum Lip Treatment SPF 15
roarwoman 1/28/2011 2:50:00 PM
I wrote a review on the original Fresh Sugar Balm and although I liked it, I thought the price was over the top and there were lip balms out there that were just as effective without breaking the budget. I used a gift card to purchase Sugar Plum and have to admit, I love it. I have dark hair, green eyes and a creamy complexion and this tint looks amazing on me. I love the deep fushia color of the canister, the screw top is nice because I don't worry about the stick getting mushed at the top by a pop on cap. The fragrance is lovely, smells like cinnamon sugar but I cannot smell it on me after application. The deep purple tint is quite light on the lips, and I like to layer mine with a little gloss on top, not only does it look nice it also makes the tint color last longer. I have been using Sugar plum non-stop for the last two days. The texture is creamy and smooth, numerous applications later, I didn't have any of that awful 'build up" on my lips you get from cheap chap sticks. Really nice product, but the price still gets me. When this runs out I will go back to using Black Honey by Clinique, barely there lip color with the same tint shade, $18 vs. $28 for Sugar Plum and the Clinique stick last twice as long, kind of a no brainer.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Effet Faux Cils 4 - Fascinating Violet
roarwoman 11/17/2010 4:37:00 PM
I am very saddened to say that I was not impressed with this mascara. I wanted to like it very much, tried again and again to wear it but ultimately I took it back and exchanged for something else. The color was amazing, beautiful. It was electric violet out of the tube which freaked me out for a minute or so, but once applied my green eyes went WOWSA!! The formula was thick and clumpy on my lashes and I had to use a lash groomer right after I applied. If the formula dried with lumps and clumps, I couldn't get them out without flakes everywhere. Lashes resembles pointed sticks after two coats and by the end of the day...."Huston, we have smudging" I paid $45 CND which was a stretch for me but I wanted to try it. The sales assistant was very accommodating when I returned it and I exchanged for an eye shadow duo by the same brand. Didn't want to hate, wanted to participate, but it wasn't meant to be.

Mascara -MAC - Zoom Fast Black Lash
roarwoman 8/6/2010 2:06:00 PM
It's crazy, the formula is wet and thick, the brush looks a bit mutilated to be honest and I see clumps when I first start, but the product works, clumps brush out easily and my lashes look ultra black and long. I can apply a few coats and clumps still bush out and my lashes look better and better. I have been using Zoom Fast for almost two weeks, everyday and think it's one of the better mascara's I have used in a long time. Lashes do get spikey and brittle looking if I over do it. First coat is applied then lashes are gentle brushed with grooming comb. Second coat and grooming again, ready to go. Only down side is that the product does smudge on my eyelids if I'm not careful and takes a bit of pressure to remove, so I have to re-apply eyeshadow lightly in the area. The color is great, intense black that is glossy, my eyes look the better for it.
