Lipstick -Hourglass - Femme Rouge Velvet Crème Lipstick in Nocturnal

Love. And thats a lot coming from me. I struggle with lipsticks. I love the look of them but usually on other people. My lips are highly pigmented on their own, so shades often go funny on me. And I have kinda full, dry-prone lips. so colors tend to sink in and and highlight the dryness. But not this color. I add it to the center of my mouth and bleed it out with my ring finger. Looks like a gorgeous plum stain. It also looks great in photos. Pretty good staying power, but I tend to reapply a lot because I love the color. One thing I've found with other lipsticks is the 2nd application isn't as good. But I don't have that problem with this. I use By Terry Dolce Plum liner with it. And if my lips are dry, I'll apply Clinique Richer Raisin Chubby Stick over it to bring back the color after eating. Love, love, love this lipstick. Hourglass is a great brand. I sampled Icon lipstick today in Sephora and think I'm going to purchase that too.

Primer/ Corrector -Burberry - Fresh Glow
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 12/31/2011 8:37:00 AM

Love this product, even though it is obscenely expensive and you really don't get that much in the bottle. It looks like a big bottle, but on closer inspection it's really just a lot of packaging. (Looks great on a dressing table though!) But the product itself is wonderful. I am a highlighter addict, I love shimmer and have used a lot of products. Before this I was wearing Benefit's High Beam, which is way more pink than this. When I first got this, I thought it was too subtle. Now I love it. It gives such a candle-lit glow, really beautiful for day or night. On me it's a soft champagne color. According to the packaging, its like a primer as well. I think that might be part of the reason I like it so much. But I primarily consider it a luminizer and already use Laura Geller primer. I do think it contributes to an overall plumpness to the skin that other highlighters don't really do.

Lotions/ Creams -Chanel - Coco Mademoiselle Fresh Body Cream
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 11/20/2011 2:58:00 PM

I'm on my second jar of this. It is so pretty, the scent is light but powerful and it lasts a long time on the skin. In addition to the wonderful scent, the cream itself is very rich and moisturizing. I love it! Highly recommended. I've never used the EDT or perfume, but I can say this is heavenly so I don't feel the need to. Also, the frosted jar is beautiful and looks great in your bathroom. Expensive, yes. But you only need a tiny bit and it makes you smell so nice, in a soft not overpowering way.

Eyeliner -MAC - Powersurge Eye Kohl
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 11/4/2011 8:08:00 AM

At first I didn't love this product, but it has grown on me. I took off a lippie because for me it isn't that versatile, but I still wear it every day. I like a dramatic eye, and this isn't dark enough for me to line my inner rims with. Its barely noticeable, on me at least. For that I use Chanel espresso. But what I do with powersurge is, I line my top lid, close to the lashes. It's a soft pencil and makes a nice soft line that smudges beautifully. The color is very pretty and really catches the light and flatters my dark brown eyes. With this, I don't wear shadow. I don't think I need it because this gives a nice hint of a pretty shade. It's a great day look. And if you like subtle coloring on your eyes, this alone might be enough for you. I don't really have a problem with my makeup running, but I would imagine that this doesn't have the best staying power for those who do have that issue. Because even on me it smudges. I like smudgy looks though, and it doesn't smudge off just sort of creates a pretty wash of color. A good product.

Lotions/ Creams -Lubriderm - Daily Moisture with SPF 15
rated 5 of 5
reporter1911 3/29/2011 8:21:00 AM

I love this, and was surprised to see any negative reviews. For me, it goes on beautifully and is just like a normal moisturizer, even though it has relatively high sunscreen. I find it leaves my skin very soft. I like it so much I use it all the time, not just during the day. It's also my go-to lotion under fake tanning creams, because it's not greasy and does provide good moisture. That said, the skin on my body isn't super dry, so maybe if you were really dry it wouldn't be enough. And I suppose if you were the type of person who was used to a non-SPF body moisturizer, you might think it wasn't rich enough. For me, it's a great moisturizer with SPF 15. I wish the SPF was higher, but it is good for every day. Lately I have been having a hard time finding it. I hope it doesn't get discontinued. Lubriderm has a new SPF 30 lotion, but I don't like that one nearly as much. That one is more like a sunscreen, this one is like a body lotion that happens to have an SPF.

Cleansers -Cetaphil - Gentle Skin Cleanser
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 3/6/2011 9:33:00 AM

This cleanser has really grown on me. My skin gets very dry in the winter. I use this by applying it to dry skin and rubbing it in, then washing it off with water. It isn't great with getting eye makeup off, but nothing works great on me for that. No matter what cleanser, I always have to use eye makeup remover and even then there's usually some left that I take off in the morning. What I like about this is using it on dry skin. It's like a creamy cold cream that doesn't break me out. And using it that way really helps with my dry skin. I also rub it around my eyes to break up my makeup there, and while it doesn't all come off, it makes enough of a dent that I'm happy. I will definitely repurchase and probably stick with this cleanser for years.

Lip Treatments -Burt's Bees - Beeswax Lip Balm
rated 5 of 5
reporter1911 1/27/2011 6:46:00 PM

I recently had really, really chapped lips. Normally, I'm an cherry or original chap stick kinda gal, but I got this as a free sample. At first I didn't think it was too great. It does feel waxy, not bad, but not super lubricated like I am used to in a lip balm. But after a day of steady application, my lips are totally healed. I am hooked. It doesn't come off when on your drink and your lips aren't slippery, but you can definitely feel like there is something on them. And it's very healing.

Mascara -Lancome - Hypnose Drama
rated 5 of 5
reporter1911 1/22/2011 8:42:00 AM

I love this mascara. I think people have problems with this because they aren't applying it right. Fortunately, when I bought it the sales woman showed me how to do it. The wand is shaped like an S. The curved part should fit into just the very top of your lashes, where you should wiggle it back and forth. I use the curved part to go all along the tip of my lashes. Do that a few times. Then flip it around to the straight part, where you can start at the base of the lashes and apply upwards, like a normal mascara. When you buy it, ask the sales person to show you. It can be clumpy and you have to be careful applying it. But if you use it with a delicate hand, I think it comes out beautiful. It is my absolute favorite for a big, voluminous lash. One friend asked me if I was using Latisse, that's how dramatic it made my lashes.

Styling Products -KMS California - Molding Paste
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 1/17/2011 10:12:00 PM

Very good product for my fine hair. Molds it into a nice shape, controls flyaways and gives a great piece-y look to layers. I've tried a lot of stuff to add texture to my layered, chin length hair, and this is one of the best. I can't decide if it's as good as Pureology texture twist. My hairdresser thinks it is, but I'm on the fence. It is definitely very close, and it wins points for being cheaper. It's a good buy, and definitely something I would highly recommend.

Love. Makes any mascara that much better. A little pricey, but worth it. I use it every time I wear mascara. Highly, highly recommended.

Eyeliner -Chanel - Stylo Yeux Waterproof Espresso
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 9/2/2010 5:30:00 PM

A really nice, very rich, dark brown. Simple and elegant. I have dark brown eyes, and some browns can look just kinda blah on me. This almost looks black, but adds a warmth that black never could. I used to think that brown eyes shouldn't wear brown makeup. But I read an interview with Cindy Crawford who said brown can really bring out the warmth and richness of dark eyes and now I'm a total convert. It's my go-to eyeliner every day, worn with Maybelline Great lash in dark brown. Also I love it with YSL Volume Effet Faux Cils in Burgundy. The only con is its ridiculously expensive.

Self Tanners -Bath and Body Works - Strike Gold
rated 4 of 5
reporter1911 8/21/2010 8:36:00 PM

I am a self-tanning addict. My new trick is, an expensive, dept store one (Clarins or Dior) on the face, arms and decolletage, then a cheapie on the legs. This is the one I use for my legs. As a bonus, it leaves pretty sparkles. I've also used it for my arms and chest, but I find that it looks a little muddy, which is my typical problem with cheap tanners. I don't go in the sun at all though. If you do go in the sun, this might be good for the whole body because it'd probably just blend with your real tan. Another bonus with this is, I don't mind the smell. That''s not to say there's no smell, because there is. But I don't think it's a bad one. Others might, since there is a distinct odor.

Eye Shadow -MAC - Vex
rated 5 of 5
reporter1911 8/19/2010 12:10:00 PM

Like others have said, it's hard to explain this color. When I first saw it, I thought it was pale, shimmery green. I bought it on a recommendation from a MA and then forgot about it. But recently I re-discovered it. I am so glad I did. I wear it alone with brown mascara (Maybelline great lash) and eyeliner (Chanel espresso). I put a little on just above the crease. It almost looks taupe, except I've never found a taupe that I like on me. Or bone. Or maybe gray? Hard to describe but very flattering on my fair, neutral skin with dark eyes and hair. It looks like a simple frost shade, but has beautiful elements of green, gray and purple. Its very complex. It is my new HG.

Mascara -Maybelline - Great Lash Royal Blue
rated 5 of 5
reporter1911 6/20/2010 2:45:00 PM

Very flattering for my cool, pale skin tone and dark eyes. Because my lashes are so dark, it doesn't really show up as very blue unless I am in a lot of light. I use it with Lancome eyelash primer, and it makes my lashes very long. I like to wear it in the day with just a little liner (Almay purple amethyst). Not dramatic enough for me as a night time mascara, but perfect for the day. And the best part: it washes off very easily with cleanser and water.

Mascara -Yves Saint Laurent - Luxurious Mascara - Burgundy
rated 5 of 5
reporter1911 1/2/2010 9:57:00 AM

The best thing about this mascara, for me, was the color. I have dark lashes and dark brown eyes, and I felt the burgundy really suited my coloring. I loved it. On the con side, it is expensive, and it didn't last that long. But it made my lashes so thick and long. I love it as a day mascara. Since the color is so rich, you can wear it without eyeliner. I would also recommend for hazel eyes. I will purchase again. UPDATE: This has become my every day, HG mascara. I love it. Also, I might have had a bad batch before because now I do find that it lasts a long time. I've probably bought 3 or 4 tubes. I wear with Christian Dior lash primer and gets tons of compliments on my lashes. I wear with Chanel espresso eyeliner and Mac powersurge. Love love love. The color is the best. Also great thickening and lengthening.
