Lotions/ Creams -Aveeno - Daily Moisturizing Lotion
rated 5 of 5

Love the travel one for keeping in my purse. I tried a few other brands as handcreams but I would reapply every hour or so (I'm looking at you Vaseline!). Aveeno was a risk I took and I'm glad I did because it's the only handcream I've used for the past 2 years or so. I only have to reapply after washing my hands. Absorbs quickly. Hands are instantly visibly smooth. Leaves no residue and doesn't need reapplication till washed off.

Lipstick -Revlon - Revlon Colorburst in Peach
rated 5 of 5
redvelvet89 3/30/2012 1:25:00 AM

If Revlon ever stops making Peach, I am going to stock up on these like crazy. For reference, NC40 with pigmented lips. I've been on the search for a "pretty peach". Everything I've tried is either too sheer or too orange/clownish. I am so glad I went with the recent hype about this shade. I like how easy it is to build the color up. Very moisturizing formula. Doesn't settle into lines. Decent lasting power. I think the line is slightly overpriced ($12 Canadian) but I'd happily pay more for this particular shade.

Blush -MAC - Sheertone Blush in Peaches
rated 5 of 5
redvelvet89 3/30/2012 1:17:00 AM

I went into MAC looking for Melba and came out with Peaches. Absolutely love the pigmentation and how it suits my wheatish complexion (NC40). I cannot pull off pink blushes whatsoever. So glad I found Peaches. Love that the SA in MAC seemed more worried about finding the right blush for me than I was! I feel very confident in recommending this to folks with similar skin tones as mine.

Cleansers -Avene - Cleanance soapless gel cleanser for oily skin
rated 5 of 5
redvelvet89 2/15/2012 1:23:00 AM

I first used this 7-8 years back when my acne vulgaris got so bad and my dermatologist recommended this to help calm my skin. I have extremely large sebaceous glands unfortunately and this cleanser is such a refreshing, no-nonsense quality product. It calms any upcoming pimples and prevents them from becoming evil giant monsters on my face. Lastly, I really like the packaging because the cap can't get yucky dried up gel like my pumps usually do. I'm being super nice in my review because this face wash helped me out in my teenage years of insecurity due to acne. I use it once-twice a week especially when the hormones are going crazy.

Lips -Revlon - ColorBurst Lip Butter in Peach Parfait
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 1/21/2012 12:24:00 AM

Even though I swatched this on my hand before buying, it turned out a LOT more sheer on my lips. It really looks nothing like it did on Emma Stone in the ad and that's probably because I have a very tan skin (NC40). That said, I really do like it despite it turning out completely different from what I imagined. It is almost like a gloss without that sticky-icky feeling. It does have to be reapplied fairly often (once every hour?). The best part about this lip butter is that, believe it or not, it's actually moisturizing! I swear by my Elizabeth Arden lip protectant stick. That is why I'm surprised that this worked almost as well (minus the wear time). My lips look fuller and prettier without the lip-gloss overwhelming effect. (Really not a fan of lip glosses as you can probably tell!) Unlike the ColorBurst lipsticks, the packaging is slightly annoying. One reviewer mentioned that the lid is hard to get off when your hands are moisturized. I find it hard to get the lid off even when my hands are perfectly dry! It's because the base is not wide enough, and even though it seems like a minor thing, it's annoying to make several attempts at getting the lid off. That is why I take one lippie off. To sum up, the colour does not show up too well on tan/olive skin tones but this does an EXCELLENT job of enhancing the natural colour of your lips and keeping them plump and moisturized.

Fragrances -Chanel - Coco
rated 5 of 5
redvelvet89 12/26/2011 12:02:00 AM

I received the 50ml COCO EDP Spray for Christmas from my boyfriend and I am in love with it (the perfume as well as the boyfriend!) after wearing it for just a day. I was a little scared on discovering this is my grandmother's signature scent (she is a very classy woman after all), but don't let the strength of the scent fool you! I found it best to lightly spray it on my neck and waited a good hour before leaving the house. By then, it was as if the scent had become a part of me without standing out as a distinct, strong feature. That is exactly what I look for in a perfume...it should never wear you, you should wear it- lightly enough so it complements your personality and becomes associated with you and your presence. What I like best is that it is not overly sweet like Madamoiselle, or others that smell like liquid sugar in a bottle. For me, smells are always associated with memories and emotions. I think this one is going to have a lot of wonderful memories attached to it!

Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Daily Brush Cleaner
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 12/22/2011 12:32:00 AM

I do not know why some reviewers didn't find this to be good for getting product off. I used it on all my brushes today and I had to use 1 paper towel for each brush. I didn't even know my brushes could soak in so much product! Anyway, I find it quite a pain to wash my brushes with soap so often but I do it because I don't want them to breed bacteria and cause breakouts. With this spray, I can finally cut down on the brush shampoo and use this more often instead. Imo it DOES take most product off (unless there's very stubborn glitter in your makeup) and I'm assuming it disinfects too, given the strong smell. A note on the smell: It's a disinfectant, it's not meant to smell like roses. Even then, I have no problem with the smell. It doesn't smell half as bad as hairspray and it's actually kind of nice!

Polishes -Joe Fresh Style - Twilight
rated 5 of 5
redvelvet89 12/22/2011 12:18:00 AM

As a nail blogger, I receive too many nailpolishes to swatch each season. This one however, is one of the few that turned into my new favourite. I haven't yet found a similar colour/effect (you could pair black nailpolish with SH HiddenTreasures or NYX Purple Avenue for the same effect; however, both are very hard to find).I love most Joe Fresh nailpolish colours but this one definitely takes the cake for me! The glitter has a holographic effect and reflects different colours depending on the angle. Personally, I like this colour on short, square nails with rounded edges. Definitely a keeper!

Mascara -Clinique - Lash Doubling Mascara
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 12/21/2011 11:40:00 PM

I don't understand all the hate for this product. After years and years of buying every brand of mascara, my heart is definitely set on this one. I have extremely long lashes so I really don't need a mascara that makes my lashes a mile long; all I need is for the mascara to fill my lashes out and add colour (once I'm done my eye makeup, my lashes are virtually invisible with all the powder). It is lightweight (i.e. won't make lashes droop) and doesn't look overly conspicuous, which is exactly what a mascara should do. Definitely a HG for me!

Blush -Joe Fresh Style - Cosmetics - Rose
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 12/21/2011 11:18:00 PM

I fail to understand why Joe Fresh cosmestics are not given the recognition they so rightly deserve. Perfect for my NC40 skin, one swipe of this blush brings out natural colour to my cheeks and stays on the entire day. I first bought Clinique's New Clover (should have probably read the reviews before I bought it!) and it is truly amazing how disappointing that was. I read on MUA that it didn't have much colour but that was an understatement. Anyway, Joe Fresh saved the day and it is the only blush I've ever hit pan on. The best part? It was $4. Also, the clear packaging of Joe Fresh products is very refreshing and different. Definitely stocking up on this!

Lipstick -Revlon - Colorburst Lipstick in Crimson
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 12/21/2011 10:47:00 PM

I have finally found the perfect Chanel-esque, drugstore red lipstick that's elegant and doesn't make me feel like a clown. It is a deep rich red (perfect for my NC40 skintone) and the formula is quite moisturizing. This one is classy enough to wear to work and the quilted pattern on the packaging is what caught my eye (I've never bought a Revlon lipstick before). The only reason I can't rate this a 5 is because of its staying power which is virtually non-existent. I recommend filling your lips in with a nude liner first just to set the lipstick in place. Dabbing a little bit of baby powder and blotting should also help prolong weartime.

Lipstick -Cover Girl - Lip Perfection in Hot
rated 5 of 5
redvelvet89 12/21/2011 10:39:00 PM

Absolutely love the pigmentation and staying power of this lipstick! As other reviewers said, it has inbuilt lipstain so virtually no touchups required! I have to use an entire makeup wipe to get the pigment of. I use it with Covergirl Lip Perfection lip liner in 215 Passion. Before buying, swatch it on your hand because it is an extremely bold red. Definitely not for the fainthearted :)

Makeup Brushes -Ecotools - Powder Brush
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 12/18/2011 8:40:00 PM

How soft is this brush! I actually enjoy using this to set my foundation with powder. I've only used it with MAC pressed powders but it picks up product amazingly and distributes it evenly. It was a tough decision between this and Quo when I went to Shoppers. So glad I picked this! PS. I love the clothy, reusable packaging it comes in. Definitely makes it easy to travel with instead of sweeping up dirt from my makeup bag.

Polishes -Nicole - Kardashian Kolor - Khloe had a little lam-lam
rated 3 of 5
redvelvet89 12/18/2011 8:26:00 PM

Being a nailpolish junkie, I rarely regret buying nailpolish. This was the only colour I bought from the Kardashian Kolor line since I thought the rest were not too unique. The application, quality and pigmentation was a 100% as can be said for all my Nicole by OPIs, but the colour is what disappointed me a bit. It almost looked a little gross. I still have it on but that's because I added a coat of Across the Universe and oh boy these 2 colours were made for each other!

Liquid -Maybelline - Fit Me Foundation
rated 4 of 5
redvelvet89 12/18/2011 8:04:00 PM

I am a dedicated MAC Mineralize Satinfinish user. I got mini swatch-worthy samples in the November Glamour so I decided to use the $1 off coupon and give it a try. I've just worn it for one day but so far it's held up well. I break out really easily with low-quality makeup but this excellent! The application was easy and it blends into the skin well. I think I'll make this my new daily foundation and save the MAC for special occasions. My only complaint is the horrible bottle-n-cap system. How am I supposed to get a controlled amount of foundation out with that huge bottle opening? It's probably because I'm used to the pump system. Tip: Apply it with clean fingers instead of sponges or brushes as it will warm the foundation and help it set in better!
