Styling Products -John Frieda - 3-day Straight Semi-Permanent Styling Spray

Big fan of this product. I have thick wavy/curly long hair that is pretty damaged. I can flatiron my hair to look gorgeous, for about 10mins... then it starts to get wavy. If it's even a little humid I'm ruined. My hair turns frizzy and wavy. I used this on a ridiculously hot-humid day pre-thunderstorm. No better day to test this out. I was immediately impressed using this product. I was actually able to blow dry my hair straight. Normally I can blow dry it into a weird wavy/straight state that I need to finish with a flatiron. This let me dry totally straight and I only need to fix some parts with the flatiron (since I'm challenged holding a brush and blowdryer). It has lasted 3 days in this humidity, although not perfectly straight. I haven't bothered touching it up. My hair is just below my shoulder blades and required about 10 sprays. This smells nice, my hair was shiny and frizz free. I don't find this moisturizing so I used an additional leave in conditioner. When I started drying my hair this felt so sticky, like I had honey in my hair. As it got dryer this went away but that sure scared me. Excellent product and great price. Would rebuy.
I'll admit, I didn't want to like this product. It was plastered in every magazine and everyone talked about it. I thought it was more marketing than the product being spectacular. I recently bleached my black hair to very light, so it was extremely damaged. My stylist gave me a little sample to use. I waited until I finished that to write a fair review. My hair didn't feel as damaged or brittle as you would expect seriously bleached hair would. It was as soft as it was before I bleached it. After I dyed my hair again I skipped using this and my hair felt like straw. This serum felt different in my hands and on my hair. It soaked in. I know there are cones in it but it didn't have that slick feeling most serums do. I purchased other serums with identical ingredients (I have no idea how much of each ingredient) and they just sat on my hair, not soaking in or moisturizing. I use this on dry and wet hair. It helps with frizz, shine, bounce and softness. It is pricey but it lasts a really long time so it's worth it. I don't like the glass bottle though, I saw my stylist had a pump for her bottle so I will purchase one as well.
I read the reviews after I purchased this hair colour. I still chose to use it as most of the reviews for the one I purchased (#40) were positive. I was prepared for this to come out darker than I wanted so I wet my hair (a tip from my hairdresser) and left it on for less than 10mins. It still came out BLACK and a very red black at that. I was seriously not happy with the colour. It wasn't remotely near the colour of the box. The application wasn't bad, I would rec getting two boxes if you have hair past shoulder length. This didn't damage my hair but I didn't use the conditioner it came with. It was also inexpensive. I did find the pump bottle difficult to grip with slippery hands. I would not repurchase. The lighter colours may be better but this was just a let down for me.
I bought this yesterday on sale for $8cdn and have to say wow. I have dry skin and frequently use thick body butters and oils. I typically shower at night and wake up the next morning with dry skin. I applied this after my shower and my skin didn't feel tight or parched the next day at all. I am very impressed. I do apply this a few times however, but that's not a hassle since it absorbs quickly. This absorbs quickly, not sticky at all. The scent isn't my favourite but it's not bad. A warm almond-y scent, fades quickly. This also leaves a nice sheen to the body after you apply it. For someone with dry skin this is great for spring/summer.
EDIT: After using a whole bottle of this, it stopped working for my hair. I would rinse my hair and it felt as though I had just rinsed the shampoo out. It didn't do anything. I do alternate products but this just flunked. I'll stop using it for awhile and try it again. I would give this a 3.5 but I'll give it 3 for now. This is a great product for the cost. I usually use joico products and I find this does almost as nice of a job as joico intense conditioner (in the kpak line). Far better than any average conditioner or hair mask that I have used. I have dyed, wavy/curly hair that is thick. It's dry and frizzy so I need heavy duty conditioners. I typically like to get my shower steamy and heat up the conditioner when it's on my hair so it soaks in better, but rinse with lukewarm/cold water to avoid frizz. I found rinsing with lukewarm/cold water was a big mistake with this. I felt like this never rinsed out, it was just gross. I rinsed with hot/warm water and my hair felt like gloss. My hair feels strong, shiny and soft. It's easy to manage. I purchased this for $9cdn at Wal-mart. I will rebuy.
Self Tanners -Paula's Choice - Almost the Real Thing-Self Tanning Gel
reallychelseawow 3/27/2011 6:10:00 PM
I loathed this product, now I love it. The first time I applied it I only applied it to my one leg which I like to do so I can get a good idea of how much change/colour etc. I am extremely pale with neutral undertones and I do NOT tan (I burn to a little crisp). First application: I was nervous to try it because it said wait an hour to dress. I enjoyed how it's coloured so I didn't end up streaky. But I turned out one weird orangey brown colour. It also took forever to soak in. It lasted long so I had a weird orange leg for almost a week :( The second time I used it (on my whole body too!) I did it totally differently. My mom loves this so I used some tips from her. I applied a thick body butter a bit before applying this (not a light lotion). I wore rubber gloves and I used the tiniest pinch (two pea sized drops for my whole leg) and rubbed like mad. I used so little I couldn't see the colour of the product, I could only tell because it felt tacky. Instead of doing long strokes to avoid streaks I just rubbed in every direction to spread the product as much as possible. And it turned out AMAZING! Plus I was totally dry to the touch in about 20 minutes. I noticed a nice golden colour after a few hours. No streak, no oompa-loompaness, nothing bad. It doesn't smell bad for a self tanner either. Because I use so little it's cheap for the cost. The bottle is great. The application did take quite a bit longer than other tanners but it was definitely worth it! Me mom and I just repurchased 6 bottles for $10 (on sale), which will last us ages.
Treatments -Unlisted Brand - Extra Strength Hair Color Remover - Color Oops
reallychelseawow 3/19/2011 11:08:00 AM
This stuff blew my mind. This significantly lightened my black hair without half the damage bleach did. After I used this my hair was a deep (mostly) natural looking red from black. There was hardly any brassiness which impressed me and my hair didn't feel like straw. I'm naturally strawberry blonde but I've dyed my hair so many different colours. It didn't phase me to go from black to silver when my hair was short but I've worked hard to grow it out so I didn't want to do any extreme damage. I've been dying it black for about 2 years now. I purchased two boxes because I have thick hair that goes past my shoulder blades, but I actually only ended up using one. My recs: -If you have wavy or curly hair like I do, I find if I straighten the day before makes it easier to distribute product -This stuff SMELLS. I had to throw out a shirt and tshirt because I couldn't get the smell out. Beware -I wish I used this twice before redying my hair. I think it would have helped because I'm not as light as I wanted -I use the k-pak system regularly but I used it a few extra times after this which also helped -If you're dying your hair after, purchase a MUCH lighter colour. I chose a light/med brown about 2 shades lighter than what I wanted but I expected it to turn dark. My hair went about 4 shades darker than the dye should have been, which I read can happen. That was my only bummer about this. I would rebuy, it was $17.99 which is expensive especially if you need two boxes but well worth it!
My review is probably the same as every other one haha. I like the colour, I like how quickly it dries, I don't find it to be streaky, the scent isn't horrible and it fades quickly, the foam is easy to apply. I don't like the nozzle, it only pumps upright and runs down the side for me. If I tilt the can it won't pump. You don't get very much in the bottle and this is hard to find. I liked the colour of Jergens lotions and I like their facial moisturizer, but I have found a lot of lotions cause red bumps on the back of my legs which I hate. This doesn't. I will repurchase, if I can find it :o!
Deodorants -Dove - Clinical Protection Visibly Smooth
reallychelseawow 2/13/2011 11:38:00 AM
I think I'm the odd one out but I really don't like this. I am not a sweaty person so I don't need the clinical strength protection. I purchased this because I saw it had better reviews about the stubble protection than the none clinical one, and I read that using a clinical strength anti-pers can prevent yellow stains on white shirts. The more I use this the more the scent grosses me out. I find it strong and fake. It doesn't fade at all either. I found this did nothing for hair. I didn't have especially coarse hair but this didn't slow regrowth or make it softer, I still have to shave as often as I did. This was an average antiperspirant. I found some regular strength ones worked better than this. I gave this a three because it didn't stain my shirts. I wear a lot of white so that is important to me. I have used other antiperspirants that do not stain my shirts (Secret with Olay) but I have to apply that a while before I get dressed which I forget sometimes. This is easier. This just didn't seem to work for me. It wasn't a waste of money and may work for others but I will not repurchase.
Liquid -Cover Girl - CG Smoothers All Day Hydrating Makeup
reallychelseawow 1/14/2011 11:20:00 AM
I purchased this after Cover Girl's naturluxe foundation broke me out horribly (which sucks cause I loved that). I'm extremely pale with neutral undertones. I bought this in the palest shade, it's a little pink but not too much. The shade matches fairly well. I would say this is a very light coverage foundation (which is all I need) more like a TM. A couple of layers can help build up coverage, but this would be a bad choice if you need full coverage. I find this moisturizing, it doesn't get cakey or flake off. I have dry skin so I don't know how this would work for someone with oily skin. I will repurchase, it helps even out my skin and I don't have any major blemishes. The price is good too. I wish this had spf but it's still an +A product.
Tinted Moisturizer -Hard Candy - Sheer Envy Tinted Moisturizer spf15
reallychelseawow 12/30/2010 11:28:00 AM
I would honestly give this a 3.5 but I'm leaning more towards 3 than a 4. I purchased the lightest colour. I am very pale with neutral undertones. I have good skin with the occasional breakout but I do not breakout easily. Mine does not have spf. I am in Canada and I guess they did not release the tm with spf here which is a bummer. I find this too yellow and a bit too dark for my skin. I wish they offered a more neutral colour or lighter options. I get shiny after a few hours with this on, which is rare since I have dry skin. I don't know if the spf affects this. This transfers easily I noticed, even after using a setting powder. It is almost as the moisturizer and the makeup separate on my face. I am still on the hunt for a perfect tm but this isn't too bad. I would repurchase as the price is great, it doesn't break me out and it is handy.
Foundations -Cover Girl - Natureluxe Liquid Silk Foundation
reallychelseawow 12/6/2010 4:55:00 PM
Changing my review. I'm giving it two because the product is good but it breaks me out (which is rare). I like the coverage, the colour, it doesn't make me shiny or oily. But after a few days I started getting little red pimples that turned into bad under the skin cysts. I stopped using the product and it went away. I'm not sure but I think it may be the fragrance. This may work for some but not for me which sucks, since I really wanted it to!
Mascara -Hard Candy - Ginormous Lash Volumizing Mascara
reallychelseawow 10/12/2010 6:08:00 PM
It's not bad. I have long lashes so I prefer volumizing. I don't find this to be very volumizing, more lengthening. I also find it to be wet and a little sloppy, but it doesn't flake or smudge which is nice. Price is great, it's not bad not my fav, I would not repurchase.
Great blush! Pigmented and not chalky. I haven't had issues with the packaging of any HC products so maybe I'm lucky. There is shimmer so I layer a matte powder over it to tone it down a bit. It's fine shimmer, no big chunks which is great. I'm extremely pale and this gives me the perfect pink flush. It was $6cdn at wal-mart, great product. I'm slowly learning about HC and becoming quite a fan!
UPDATE: This stuff fades quickly and to a terrible colour (which I find most Garnier hair colours do). Crud. Would not rebuy. Like most reviewers I regularly used Natural Instincts. I generally used their black mixed with a red for a deep purple colour. I saw herbashine had a deep purple similar to their Garnier 100% colour (which I hate btw). I decided to give this a try. The colour is great. It's a more blue purple than I was getting by mixing two colours, although it doesn't last as long as NI. Two notes. One: I LOVE the conditioner that this comes with. It's thick and rich and made a huge difference to the texture of my hair. I wish I could buy it alone! Love love love. What I don't love (about this and most garnier dyes): it smells! It's a strong, artificial fruity smell that lasts after a few washes. I hate that and wish it didn't. Garnier always over fragrances their products. The conditioner also reeks. It smells like heavy perfume. It lasts long too. Ugh. I will repurchase and I would love to know if I could buy the conditioner elsewhere!
