This is my reconstructor of choice. Prefer this to Aphogee for results ease of use and smell.

Treatments -Joico - K-Pak Intense Hydrator

I hate to be the one to bring down the score, but for me the KPAK Hydrator was just ok. I found that my HGs Kenra Moisturizing and Kenra Mango Butter worked much better at balancing the moisture from KPAK Reconstructor. I have 4a hair that I flat iron weekly. It may work better for straighter textures.

Conditioner -Kenra - Mango Butter Moisturizer
rated 5 of 5

Silky super moisturized hair in a bottle. My desert island bag just got heavier. Kenra and Elucence have some of the best silicone free conditioners known to man! My top three in order are Kenra Moisturizing, Kenra Mango Butter Moisturizer, and Elucence Moisture Balancing. EDIT: I should also add that I am not paid to advertise for Kenra, have been using Kenra and Elucence conditioners for several years( this one for about 11 months as of my initial review), and am extremely particular about the ingredients I use. I'm not cone averse and must understand the role of an ingredient in a formulation before I use it. While this does contain amodimethicone it is in an amount small enough to not cause typical problems you would experience with heavier silicones. Amodimethicone does not build up on itself. Im almost certain that the star ingredient here is squalene. This also makes a fine counterpoint to KPAK Reconstructor and is good mixed with Kenra Moisturizing Conditioner. Also please note that I am African American with fine type 4 hair. YMMV.

Top/Base Coats -Seche Vite - Dry Fast Top Coat
rated 5 of 5
rburney 12/18/2012 11:32:00 PM

Best darned top coat period. Hides a multitude of polish sins and gives a glass finish. A must along with CND Stickey for bulletproof traditional manis. The only downer is you have to use the thinner about halfway through the bottle. Also the thinner is not big 3 free.

Shampoo -Kenra - Moisturizing shampoo
rated 4 of 5
rburney 12/18/2012 11:20:00 PM

While I'm not overly fond of the smell, it does clean well without stripping or drying out my fragile hair. I find it as moisturizing as a shampoo can be without silicones. Doesn't leave my hair feeling brittle and coated like the sulfate free Platinum shampoo did. I bought the liter bottle from Ulta and used the pump I bought from Curl Mart's site. Kenra's sister company Elucence has a shampoo called Moisture Benefits that is very similar.

Hair Styling Tools -Mason Pearson - Popular Bristle & Nylon Brush

A wonderful treat if you have the disposable income to spare otherwise try something comparable. It does make the roota go flat. A little bristly on my scalp, but it really does remove the flakies and other debris.

I apply this with the cuticle eraser before bed and at least once during the day. My cuticles look great. When I dont have the $ to treat myself I just use a teensy bit of Glytone body lotion and whatever lightweight oil I have.

A must have (along with Seche Vite) for bulletproof manis and pedis. Prefer it to Orly Bonder.

Wanted something to add a little shine and moisture to my flat ironed type 4 hair. I got plenty of shine, but not much moisture. I prefer Kkenra Plat Recovery Polish. This is a great product for shine only. Will not repurchase.

Brows -Anastasia Of Beverly Hills - Brow Wiz

I feel like the price should be lower given the amount of product, but the color (brunette) and consistency are excellent. I love this more than the pink Anastasia pencil. It's a keeper.

Styling Products -Frederic Fekkai - Coiff Controle Ironless Straightening Balm
rated 2 of 5

This product contains glycerine - a humectant. My hair flatironed beautifully, but within an hour of flatironing I had tons of frizz. Its also $$$ for the amount I would need to straighten my kinky hair. It may work well for straighter hair types.

Conditioner -Kenra - Moisturizing Conditioner
rated 5 of 5
rburney 10/24/2011 1:29:00 AM

This is a HG desert island beauty product for me. No conditioner leaves my afro hair as elastic, moisturized, and well behaved as this. This condish has allowed me to regrow my hair while minimizing breakage and splits. It is expensive, but the ingredients are unique enough to justify the cost if you buy in bulk. I have yet to find an equivalent at the drugstore or boutique levels. EDIT: I should also add that I am not paid to advertise for Kenra, have been using Kenra and Elucence conditioners for several years, and am extremely particular about the ingredients I use. I'm not cone averse and must understand the role of an ingredient in a formulation before I use it. Also please note that I am African American with fine type 4 hair. YMMV.

Lip Treatments -MAC - Lip Conditioner
rated 5 of 5

Smells good. Tastes okay. A GREAT lip conditioner. Some have commented on "flaking" lips. On me at least I have noticed that my lips are not "flaking" but the dry skin (that is dead) is becoming pliable enough to remove. A quick brushing with a toothbrush will remedy that problem. Hope you ladies enjoy.

Lip Treatments -eos - Lip Balm Sphere - Summer Fruit
rated 2 of 5

At first I loved it; my lips felt smooth, the packaging was cute and made a fun makeshift toy for my nephews, but on me it simply doesn't work. I have yet to find a replacement for MAC lip conditioner.

Conditioner -Unlisted Brand - Elucence - Moisture Balancing
rated 5 of 5
rburney 12/7/2010 6:12:00 PM

This is the only conditioner that I will continue to purchase again and again. It's the only conditioner that makes my kinky hair shiny, moisturized, and soft AFTER it has dried. It is wonderful for a no poo routine and can be used as a leave in as well. The only downside is that it's not easily available, but curlmart.com has made this bearable with their free shipping for orders $60 or more. I highly recommend this product. Update... This is now my second favorite. It has been replaced with a similar conditioner from its sister company (Kenra). The Kenra moisturizing condish has hydrolized wheat protein (a moisturizing and strengthening protein) in the same hexadecanol (cetyl alcohol) base. Both work very well.
