Eye Shadow -Cargo - Essential Eye Palette Cool/Neutral
queijada 6/10/2011 10:35:00 PM
Great no-thought product that is perfect for a conservative work environment. The shadows are creamy and blendable, and go on sheer but can be built up. I have the warm neutral palette as well, and they make life easier. Worth the $32.
Treatments -Alpha Hydrox - 10% AHA Anti Wrinkle Treatment - Oil Free Formula
queijada 6/5/2011 2:56:00 PM
This is good stuff. I have congested, oily skin with occasional breakouts, and this calms the redness, helps lighten the brown spots, and keeps everything smooth. I have a high tolerance for products like this, and am able to use it under my eyes. Note that it has the correct pH. This is a leave-on treatment, and it does create a smooth surface for applying SPF & makeup. It is vital to wear SPF with this stuff. Don't forget to apply to your neck, decolletage & the back of your hands--you want everything to be even! This product was $10.99 at Ulta, and I've seen $3 off coupons. I believe Walgreens also sells it. It's a staple at my house!
Lipstick -Palladio - Herbal Tinted Lip Balm Golden Pink
queijada 6/4/2011 11:34:00 PM
When they say golden, they aren't kidding. This is a soft pink with lots of gold shimmer. Looks great with bronze tones. Just the right consistency--not goopy or gritty, with good color payoff. It's a bit softer than traditional lipstick, so the chapstick-type packaging is very appropriate. Ulta had this for $4...totally worth it.
Lipstick -E.L.F. - Mineral Lipstick in Barely Bitten
queijada 6/1/2011 10:04:00 PM
Barely Bitten is a subtle red with warm undertones and a very slight gold shimmer. It wears well & is great for work. The finish is slightly moist. I'd buy again!
Ok, so the MAC 187 it ain't...it's slightly less stiff and less dense than the 187. Because it is less stiff than the 187, you'll have to use a lighter hand to avoid getting large "stipples" on your face when applying foundation. However, it's still a great brush, especially for blush & bronzer. Everyone needs one like this! Totally worth the $3. See my photo comparison of Sonia Kashuk's smaller version, the ELF brush & MAC 187.
Makeup Brushes -E.L.F. - Studio Line Eyeshadow 'C' Brush
queijada 6/1/2011 9:31:00 PM
Until today, my favorite C brush was from Essence of Beauty. No more! This picks up color nicely, feels good on the skin, and has a nice weight to it, in addition to a great price. Check out my comparison photos to see the differences & similarities.
Polishes -Rimmel - Lasting Finish Pro - Crushed Pearl
queijada 5/31/2011 12:50:00 AM
Crushed Pearl is indeed very pearly, with a pink & grey iridescence. It shows as a pearly pink with 2 coats on the nail, but the grey is more apparent in the bottle. I love the paddle-style brush, which makes for an even, neat application. The wear is good, but I'm not so sure about the 10-day claim--maybe for someone with hired help to wait on them hand & foot? I would say it's better than average. Overall, a sheer, sophisticated pink.
Primer/ Corrector -Paula's Choice - Shine Stopper Instant Matte Finish
queijada 5/30/2011 8:48:00 PM
I have an oily t-zone & cheeks. This stuff does what it says it will, and then some--I was able to go more than 6 hours without oiliness everywhere except my forehead. Pore minimizing? Meh. It is a light formula, not as slick feeling as Smashbox Photofinish primer or Monistat, but it is instantly mattifying and a little goes a long way to create a smooth surface. The tube should last for awhile. I like that it has no fragrance. Paula's Choice has been having better offers lately; I got this, sunscreen & self-tanner for 30% off with free shipping. I also saw a deal where shipping was free for orders over $20; this is $21.95 at full price. My HG will keep my forehead matte for 6+ hours; until I find it, I'll use this.
Eye Shadow -Wet 'n' Wild - Color Icon Single in Brulee
queijada 5/30/2011 12:28:00 PM
Compared to MAC's Brulee, this is peachier, and the consistency is creamier & blends well with other colors. A winner!
This is a deep, cool burgundy with a nice gloss and some sheerness. If you have highly pigmented lips, your color will show through. I like the wear of this stuff. The only thing that drives me nuts is the strong orange perfume, which is cloying.
This review is for Playful Pink 1053-15. The display of this stuff at the store is nearly empty most of the time, so someone must like it! I wouldn't say it stays "forever" but it is long-lasting without being too sticky. It has a nice pink/pearl shimmer and good gloss. The pink approaches coral. While the packaging is fine, it has a cloying orange perfume which is so strong you'd think it tastes like oranges, but it is tasteless. All in all, a decent DS find.
This came in the Hazel Eyes kit. Nice consistency, easy to apply, looks darker than it is once on (I'm an NC25). However, I have oily lids, and 8 hours later I have puddles of oily color in my creases. I'll stick with UDPP.
I was looking for something in the Coral range when I found this. At first I didn't like the formula--the color just moved around on my lips. I dabbed it on with the wand, and let it set for a minute, and it was fine! This is a bright, retro color with a satin/matte finish. I drank a large softdrink through a straw with no transfer. If you don't mind the fiddlyness of application, it's a nice finish and a bright color--much brighter than the photo.
Eye Shadow -Ulta - Professional Eye Highlighting Wand
queijada 5/21/2011 10:09:00 PM
This was on sale for $1.99, I hope it's not being discontinued! Although I'm a fan of YSL Touche Eclat, the $40 price tag is painful. This product is a terrific substitute. One end is a powder applicator, and the lid screws off. The other end is a pencil that screws up & down, and the lid snaps off. I'm an NC25, and this is the perfect, subtle highlight for me, and it's super easy to apply. It goes on precisely and more easily than Touche Eclat. I especially love how it covers the shadow immediately under my lower lashes. It is easy to blend. The color is neutral with good coverage. Great product!
Eye Shadow -Sally Hansen - Natural Beauty Inspired by Carmindy The Stone Palette
queijada 5/21/2011 9:57:00 PM
When you think of stone, do you think, 'purple'? Me neither, but that's the name of this palette. The smallest color is a deep matte purple with a slight shimmer, and one of the larger colors is a medium pink/purple with a pearl finish. The other large color is a random matte pale yellow: think MAC Brulée but brighter, more yellow and less pigmented. In fact, it is hardly pigmented at all, compared to the other two colors. It applies poorly. The other two colors are pretty without looking bruised, and are great for every day. Because only two of the colors are wearable, I would not repurchase this product.
