Lip Treatments -Korres - Guava Lip Butter
purplephilia 10/22/2009 9:57:00 AM
This was all right for me when I first bought it, as long as I put it on 5-10x a day, which I didn't mind. Now that the weather is changing and my lips are getting chapped, this stuff doesn't do anything at all. It does not "sink into" my lips and only moisturizes for about a minute until it dries. Plus it's in a tub which is just gross, especially if you have long finger nails. Thankfully I found a decent lip exfoliant on clearance at Ulta and it helps the Korres maintain a bit of usefulness. Definitely not going to re-purchase.

Cleansers -Aveeno - Ultra-Calming Moisturizing Cream Cleanser [DISCONTINUED]
purplephilia 10/20/2009 7:41:00 PM
This was the OPPOSITE of "ultra-calming" for me! It stung immediately after use and now my face just feels generally icky and it's nice and red. I have very dry, very acne-prone skin that is breaking out around my chin thanks to Zoloft. I bought this hoping to calm down the chaos, but it just made it worse. Guess I'll be sticking to my CeraVe.

Makeup Brushes -Sonia Kashuk - Eyebrow Comb/Brush
purplephilia 5/5/2008 7:14:00 AM
I thought this was pretty expensive, but I need a fine-toothed lash comb with thin teeth so I bought this comb/brush. I hardly use the eyebrow brush, but it works great. The comb didn't work perfectly for me, but what does? I think I bought this about 9 months ago, and the head has been loose for at least 3 months. It doesn't fall off, but it's loose. I was just trying to clean it with a make-up remover wipe, and 6 of the teeth just came right out!! I will only be re-purchasing this because I'm afraid to try others. I'm very picky about my lashes and this has been doing a decent job. EDIT 9/2009: I've re-purchased this and the head came off about a year later. Way too expensive for something you can expect to break. I'm going to tape mine w/electrical tape and try to find another fine-toothed metal comb like this one.

Moisturizers -Unlisted Brand - Aquafina Advanced Hydration Hydrating Facial Spray
purplephilia 5/4/2008 7:48:00 PM
I read the reviews here and went to Wal-Mart specifically to find this stuff. I bought two of them since I'd seen someone said that Wal-Mart is going to carry this anymore. I like the way it feels and smells, but I don't think it makes a huge difference (I use Revlon Colorstay for Dry Skin) and I think it makes me break out. Won't re-purchase. I don't even know what I'm going to do with the 2 bottles I have sitting around.

Treatments -Stridex - Benzoyl Peroxide - Power Pads
purplephilia 5/4/2008 7:43:00 PM
The first time I used one of these, my problem area on my left cheek was noticeably smoother the next morning. After that, however, these have neither helped nor harmed my skin. I will finish the box, but won't repurchase.

Lotions/ Creams -Johnson & Johnson - Extra care healing hand cream
purplephilia 4/17/2008 10:13:00 AM
The smell is sickening to me, but otherwise it's a good product. Very rich and leaves your hands moisturized, unlike the previous 2 or 3 hand creams I've tried. I'd like it to be in a narrower tube. Won't be repurchasing due to the smell.

Treatments -Zapzyt - 10% Benzoyl Peroxide Acne Treatment Gel
purplephilia 4/15/2008 10:49:00 PM
After reading the reviews here, I was so freaking excited when I happened to see this product at Wal-Mart. I happily snatched it up. I started out using it as a spot treatment in the morning and at night. Nothing. Where was the overnight diminishment of my blemishes? :( So I decided to start putting it all over half of my face, to see if it made a difference at all. It sure did make a difference--at the time I stopped using it, the Zapzyt side of my face had 7-8 current blemishes and about 3 healing ones. The non-Zapzyt side only had 2 healing blemishes. That's ridiculous!! Not only that, but I usually only break out at TTOTM, but I usually only get 2-4 pimples. Definitely not nine or ten!! I wanted to use the whole tube, in hopes that it would magically kick in and start working, but I just couldn't take it anymore. Won't even THINK about repurchasing.

Fragrances -Unlisted Brand - Ed Hardy Perfume - Love Kills Slowly Women's EDT
purplephilia 4/11/2008 7:36:00 PM
I probably shouldn't be writing a review for this since most perfumes smell the same to me and my nose isn't all supercool, sniffing out specific scents and whatnot. I don't even have a bottle of this--just the sample from the Elder-Beerman ad. I opened it this morning at about 6:30 am, rubbed it on my wrists and neck, and I can still smell it now 13 hours later!! And it smells GOOD. I actually really like this stuff, I can't believe it. I'm going to buy a full bottle of it--partly to get the rockin' "love kills slowly" tote that comes with it (I hope they're not all gone!). Now, I usually get really sick of perfumes after 2 or 3 weeks, but I'm willing to risk that for this perfume. I love it!!

Masks -Unlisted Brand - Aspirin Mask
purplephilia 4/9/2008 1:09:00 PM
It seems like everything that works miracles for other MUAers doesn't do crap for me. This mask probably exfoliates (but I've got brown sugar for that, and it makes my skin much smoother) but it doesn't do anything visibly noticeable for my skin. I've also used it as a spot treatment for blemishes and it didn't do anything at all to help diminish them. I mix about 5 tablets with 1.5 pumps of No Ad aloe vera gel.

Lip Treatments -Carmex - MINT w/ SPF 30
purplephilia 3/12/2008 9:35:00 AM
I'm assuming this is for the mint Click Stick. This stuff worked wonders for the chapped edges of my lips (nothing else helped), but my goodness do not ever let it get on the inside of your lips or on your tongue! It's disgusting!! It tastes like chemicals. It's awesome for healing lips but it tastes so nasty I can't bring myself to use it again. I might try the strawberry kind. I'm glad I only paid 80-something cents for this.

Lotions/ Creams -Bath and Body Works - True Blue Spa Look Ma, New Hands Renewing Hand Lotion
purplephilia 3/6/2008 8:49:00 AM
This feels nice as you're putting it on, because of the paraffin I suppose, but once it sinks in/dries my hands don't feel moisturized at all. I feel bad that I bought a big bottle of this for my mom for Christmas.

Liquid -Revlon - ColorStay Makeup with SoftFlex SPF 15 Normal/Dry Skin
purplephilia 3/3/2008 9:16:00 PM
My original review for this was very negative, so I am now totally re-writing it (4/10/08). I got 110 Ivory, the lightest color, which is a decent match to my skin but too cool for me. The formula is pretty thick and creamy, so I'd expect it to be a miracle, but nothing is a miracle on my dry skin. I originally thought it turned too powdery on me (everything does!), but I made some changes to my skincare routine and now it looks just fine. I really don't like a matte finish at all, but I've accepted that I will never, ever have the dewy finish that I love and this product really does pretty okay for me. I don't think it's very obvious that I'm wearing make up. The first day I tried it, I got some new blemishes but that must have been from another product since I've been using it again for about 2 weeks and have not had any new blemishes whatsoever. I dot the foundation all over my face and then tap it in with an Essence of Beauty (CVS) sponge to blend it, and if I need more coverage I just repeat the process. Coverage starts out medium and is buildable, and in my experience this DOES last through the work day! I had been using Tarte pressed powder to set it and keep it in place, but one day I was admiring the dewiness of the Colorstay after I had just put it on and I couldn't bear to ruin it with powder so I skipped the powder and was pleasantly surprised to see that I still had foundation on at the end of the day. The bottle is pretty, but maybe not so good for traveling (heavy glass) and it has an open mouth rather than a pump. I'll continue to use it until I find something better, which I'm starting to think won't really happen. I really wish they would come out with some warm colors. EDIT 4/19/08: I have a ridiculous amount of fine glitter all over my fingers right now and I think it's from this foundation. :( I really hope my face doesn't look as sparkly as my fingers do.

Lotions/ Creams -Jergens - Skin Firming Moisturizer
purplephilia 10/4/2007 5:51:00 AM
I HATE the way this stuff smells!! Yuuuccccck. I've only been using it for 2 or 3 days, so I can't say whether or not it firms or improves the appearance of cellulite. I won't be repurchasing though. The smell is so gross. It does make my skin feel very smooth and soft, but so do other Jergens lotions. I miss the Naturally Smooth kind!!!! :'(

Deodorants -Secret - Clinical Strength
purplephilia 5/30/2007 10:44:00 PM
Tonight is my first night using this and I'm wondering if it's ever going to dry!!! I put it on about half an hour ago and it's still a little slimy. :( It smells great, though (I have the "light and fresh" scent). I'll have to come back and edit this once I have something to report about whether or not it actually works. EDIT 2/25/08: It works okay--better than most other stuff I've tried (including Certain-Dri)--but not perfect. I think I'm just going to buy some sweat pads or something. Yeesh.

Cleansers -Ponds - Exfoliating Cleansing Towelettes
purplephilia 5/30/2007 10:37:00 PM
Maybe I got a compromised pack or something, but these aren't very moist. They suck at taking off mascara (just like the regular clean sweep wipes). And the little green bumps didn't seem to do anything special.
